Just received my 2 books today via FedEx and they are really fantastic! I chose blurb due to their InDesign plugin which made creating the book extremely easy (for an existing InDesign user). The book is the final submission of my architectural thesis and the quality of the images and construction of the book are very important to me... Blurb did not dissapoint! I chose the hardcover with imagewrap and premium lustre paper. The quality is outstanding, images are sharp, saturation, contrast etc is just as on screen! My only slight gripe, is that the premium lustre paper is v glossy, (almost like photo paper) not the "hint of gloss" advertised. However, images and text do look v good on this paper.
Overall a fantastic service, my book was even delivered a day early! I would recommend highly to others
I had designed all my pages on photoshop and put them in the booksmart client with a full photo on each page. I understood there could of been trimmings with a full bleed photo, but there were none. The quality of the paper and cover is outstanding, no unwanted warming effect of my images or anything similar.
But what really made me put 5 stars was the delivery, it was very important as it is my Graphic Design portfolio, and had to arrive for my exam. With that in mind I chose to pay more so it would come faster, but I was still told in would arrive by the 24th (I needed it by the 25th) so I was pleasantly surprised when the book came today, nearly a week before its predicted arrival date. And still the quality of the binding and printing was amazing, even after it being made in such a short time.
All into consideration, my book is amazing. The software was extremely easy to use. The quality of the prints and binds are brilliant. The delivery time was incredible. I will definitely be using Blurb at any opportunity!
RECOMMENDED!
I've just received 2 REALLY disappointing diaries.
Surprize 1: Cover aside, the photographs are all in low quality BW.
Surprize 2: The smaller pictures on weekly pages are the size of a postage stamp and look ridiculous. Somehow this doesn't come across on the design software.
The diaries are a present and having chased the recipients for photo's and raved about Blurb's brilliant service I'm not looking forward to the embarrassment of handing them over.
I spent 20-30 hours designing and working on a magazine for my wife. This included stories from friends about favourite memories. I worked hard to get it on time to ensure it would b delivered for Christmas to give to her.
On delivery, I received my magazine. I was unable to read most of the inside binding parts as they had been glued together.
What would have been a special present was ruined. When I complained I was offered a reprint at no cost. Yet, no compensation or offer for the huge disappointment and frustration as a result of such an important gift.
I felt like they didn't care, and because I was a relatively small order in comparison to some of their others they did not care that much about my customer satisfaction.
I've used Blurb for almost 5 years now and recommended them to many friends. I know there are other companies now on in the market but I don't think any offer the service and flexibility in terms of size of book, page size, layout etc that Blurb does.
A great product and the results have been much admired. Thanks.
I wanted to use the booksmart tools rather than use a professional programme, but found that it severely limited creative type and layouts. There are so many things that the programme doesn't allow one to do (for example: overlay type, send type off the edge of the page etc). I think the programme should issue a warning but allow one to override.
Also booksmart constantly crashed and the "autosave".. didn't. I kept losing changes all the time. I saved every action as I progressed as I found it was the only way to keep my work up to date.
Overall very pleased with the service from Blurb. The book felt nice when it arrived and felt robust and as if it would stand the test of time. Inside the book was a slightly different matter for me. Print quality wasn't amazing but acceptable, however the biggest dissapointment was the lack of colour correction. My pics were all black and white with a very subtle toning. Unfortunately they all looked over saturated and more sepia than toned.
I will use Blurb again but pay much more attention to this issue.
Blurb offers fantastic software that enables you to be able to make your books. It's so user friendly that beginners wouldn't have any trouble at all. They always print and ship your products quickly. The quality of even the lower end products is amazing and professional. I have used Blurb three times now and will definitely be returning for my next project.
Blurb enabled me to publish my own work without hassle.
I tried other book making software and gave up in frustration - this was so much easier and I am thrilled with the end result
Picture this! You go on holiday and take hundreds of exciting, wonderful photos! On arriving home you down load them and flick through them for a while. A few weeks' later you have forgotten most of them and certainly don't look at them any more. Then you come to my house and see my latest book on my coffee table and pick it up. It looks cool and it feels substantial. Wow! Good, artistic photography that is beautifully presented! You think back to those photos you took recently and you know that they are as good as mine if not better! Then I explain to you how easy it is to make a book of your own!! But I warn you! You too will get the blurb bug!
I use Blurb for creating photo books. For a large size book of 160 images the cost is fairly high, and occasionally the printing is not up to standard, and I have had books reprinted as a result. Additionally, the bindings of the hard covers to the book pages always seems unfinished and could be of higher quality. I have mentioned this to Blurb.
Easy to do, once I had a play around with the settings and got familiar to them. The quality of the books are second to non and delivery was rapid.
Blurb booksmart was easy to download and start using, and seems to be one of the best programs available to be able to have creative control of your book. The finished product looks great, the delivery and pricing is fantastic, and features such as a pop up to tell you if there are issues, a comprehensive spell check when complete, auto save and an easy way of choosing and managing photos made the experience a good one.
However, there are a few minor annoyances that if overcome would give this service a five star review.
For example, if you create your own page template you are then unable to link your text boxes - which means that I had to create text, break it into equal sections and then paste it back into the columns I had created. I then had to format each one individually.
You also don't seem to be able to choose a default font and size. I'm also disappointed that there is not yet a 2013 planner template, as I was hoping to create Christmas presents over the coming months.
Having said all this, the negatives are minor niggles in a great service. I am already in the process of creating my next book, and if these issues were dealt with it would just make for a smoother journey.
I couldn't be bothered to rewrite my holiday memos - so I scanned them in (all 52 pages) and added some digital photos, and also scanned the bus tickets, ferry tickets, maps etc. The software is easy to use and download, and it saves the book while you're off making a cuppa. Everyone has been very impressed with the quality of the book so far - even my husband.
Very satisfied with the end product, a standard portrait book with photos and some text.
I had some difficulty creating it but I am not very good with unfamiliar programs and even I worked it out. One big problem was that the old photos were scanned with low resolution. The page warns you of this but when you click on 'fix' the photo shrinks to the size of a postage stamp! This would not look good in a book. However, re-scanned with resolution of 300 ppi (or whatever the technical term is) they worked fine.
The book arrived in good time, well packaged and looks like a professional product. I am happy to reccomend Blurb.
I downloaded the application to my laptop and created the album from there. The app makes it so easy to ceate professional looking books - credits, copyright, the title page etc etc. Its all there in template format to help you. There are numerous templates for pictures with and without text, and text only, and they are easy to modify as you fancy. The text looks like a real book in the finished article. It is truly a flexible package that is stable and relaible. Pages can be easily inserted , deleted or moved around easily. And I didn't need a training video to work it out. The results look so professional and everyone I've shown the book to has been so impressed. I have used other photobook apps and would never use them again. Blurb is much easier to use, more powerful and more flexible, and the finished product is much more professional.
Makes a good present for xmas and provides lasting memories of good times
I ordered two books for me, so they did it in right time, with satisfaction papers. Thank you so much, guys! well done!
I have used blurb twice now and both times they have been incredible!! The second time due to me not reading the notes properly my book arrived and i was a little upset as it wasn't perfect!! Even though it was my issue i emailed blurb and the response I got was just incredible!! They understood how and why I had made the mistake and they resolved it immediately!! I honestly can't put into words how very pleased and grateful I am, that I used such am incredible company and I'm so pleased that I can pass on my praise for other to read!! If you want to make a fantastic book whatever the budget look no further!!! Without a shadow of doubt I would recommend and will definitely use blurb again!! Thank you for such a wonderful book and fantastic customer service!!! Highly recommend!! And to add that their customer service email option is fantastic with very fast responders!!! Make a book and enjoy!!!
I found blurb very time consuming compared to other book making websites, and was disappointed with how difficult it is to up load old photos (ie black and white prints). I had to remove alot of photos because it would not let me publish the book with the photos in the size i wanted. Also if you choose a black cover it quickly gets a white line where it has been opened/ folded. This happened after i'd only looked at the book twice which was disappointing as it was a present. I liked the wide choice of backgrounds and colours etc however.
A great thing making up your own book in the manner of one of those so called coffee table books. Keeping the memory alive of unforgetable holidays with photos and words, much better than just a photo album. I have been surprised by how many people have picked it up and read through it. Next big holiday will be done the same, and I intend to make one for my daughters wedding in Las Vegas too.
Great idea, great quality, get publishing.
I have written recipe books and funny stories that family and friends can enjoy and my grandchildren can remember (me as a mad granny). I have combined photos and poems, a long story about my mother's magical overcoat. I want to be remembered as someone who is ALIVE and on a journey that others can enjoy. Blurb has allowed me to do this. It allows me space to explore more dimensions that just photography. All this is done in a VERY accessible way.
I am no whizz at IT and yet I managed to create a book for my granddaughter where each page was different and entailed changing the image and text boxes ...... and I managed! A very good site and I would use it again ..... great for creating personal presents for people.
Excellent templates. Easy to use. Professional quality and prompt delivery.
I made a really nice photo book for a relative's birthday. Im really glad that I used Blurb over some other photo-printing websites, as the quality was so much better and I got far better value for money. They have a great range easily-customisable templates which made making the book I wanted really easy to do.
What a way to impress friends and family. An iindividual and personal gift to share their lives and experiences especially on that special occasion or birthday. Cannot recommend the ease of the whole process and quality of the final product enough.
I took a little time to find my way around the program making sure I got the best result for the book I was producing. This was the first book I have produced and did not know what to expect when I clicked on that scary submit button. What a great surprise when the finished article arrived so much so that I am now putting together other books for family and friends.
I would like to do book design for a living any advise from anyone out there.
Very pleased with final product and high quality service.
I love my mini book of portraits, ideal for a gift or sitting in the coffee table. The quality speaks for itself.
Blurb turns digital stuff... words... pictures into something that can be loved and cherished... something that can be shown-off... something that can flicked-through... read, re-read... laughed and cried over... something to be proud of. A book.
I've used other photobook making services/software and they all seem to be clunky, inflexible and difficult to use. A friend of mine recommended Blurb and from the start it was super easy to use. I received the book ahead of schedule and the quality of the final product was really great. I will defiantly use again and would recommend to anyone. Only 4 starts since they didn't wow and delight, but delivered to my expectations
Well I'm fifty years old and it took some time to do my first book but I'm very happy with it and can't wait to do the next one. If I had to give you a tip, it would be take your time and look at your book over and then over again. I can see that my next book will be even better now I know what to do and take a little extra time with it. Just do it...
We cycled from Carlisle to Budapest, 1500 miles, and had such a fantastic time that we decided we wanted a record of our trip. Blurb was a brilliant way to produce a book of the whole experience as we could include maps showing where we went each day, photos taken along the way and comments from our blog. We had such fun creating the book as it reminded us of so many of the little things we'd forgotten about. It was easy to use and we could edit pages easily as our ideas developed. We are delighted with the finished result which arrived within the expected time. We did make a bit of a mistake when ordering as we selected the book without the cover. As the fly leaf contained an intro and conclusion we really needed it. The help desk sorted it out for us without a problem.
I have made several Blurb photobooks and all have been much admired by others who have looked at them. I have made them not just for myself but also as presents for others - for example of my son and daughter-in-law's wedding as a present to them, and a collection of grandchildren photographs for both my son and my daughter. The process of making them is easy and flexible. It pays to have sorted out your photographs in advance and to have selected the ones you want to include. There are one or two details of the creation process that could be improved - for example if you want to select several individual photos from a collection on your computer, you either have to download the lot and ignore the unwanted ones, or you have to download them one at a time and keep returning to the beginning of the process. Also the process of selecting background colours and patterns, and fonts could be more intuitive. But these minor problems do not prevent you getting the results you want, which are always excellent.
I have now completed three projects using Blurb, and have found that both in terms of simplicity of utilisation and quality of results, it outclasses its peers. The layout is efficient, and the options available allow for a great variety of design concepts. I simply wished it allowed for even more pages in a single book, and offered an extra large format.
easy and fun to use, real flexibility and help, great product producing a great book, beautifully printed even from the hands of an amateur
I'm not very technical, but having been the unofficial photographer at a friends wedding, I was determined to make them a funky little book as a reminder of their special day . I found the Blurb templates easy to work with and really enjoyed the process of designing my book. It didn't take long and worked out to be very reasonably priced . I didn't have to wait long for the finished book to arrive and could track it's progress online . When it did arrive, I was so thrilled with the professional results and the colour and print quality. I can't wait for another excuse to make a Blurb book and am sure it won't be long before I have a collection! Blurby amazing! X
