thismemories this is the second time that I have used Blurb to produce a hardback book containing my holiday diaries and photographs which we love flicking through to recall our memories and to show friends. The books look very professional and the quality of the photographs and pages are of a very high standard. It is well worth the time spent in producing the booklet. There is plenty of help available to advise you as you undertake the various tasks, and you can personalise each page as you wish. I shall certainly produce another in the future and look forward to my next challenge.
sent my order on a Monday on line, my order came back to me the following Monday. to say i was pleased is an understatement. from start to finish it's been a pleasant experience, the free downloadable software was very easy to use and the standard of the book when it finally arrived was good and i certainly will consider to use them for my future projects.
I've used blurb about 5 times now after being told about it from a friend. I've mainly made holiday books of the family and kids and always found the process good fun using the intuitive book smart software as well as tte actual process of going through and picking out the photos to go into the book. I particularly like the multiple page templates available when creating a book which give you a really nice way of laying out photos in a variety of ways and styles and the ability to zoom, adjust the size and add text is really good.
I've normally gone for tte premium paper and image wrap which I've found to be really good and professional looking . The latest book I did for a friends wedding I went for s large square boom with the top of the range pro pearl paper. The results are superb.
The customer service comment was due to tte speed or response I've had when asking any support type questions and help when I had an error (my mistake) on one of tte books. It was quick, friendly and really helpful. I can 't reconmend blurb enough and will be using them for years to come!
These books were excellent quality and arrived in only 7 working days. Highly recommended.
Dead easy to do from Lightroom, and Adobe will (wisely) only let you use the better quality paper.
Lightroom really does make the whole process simple. So easy to change all the sizes etc. I have only been using lightroom for a month as well.
This was my first book ever, but I will now be doing more.
I'm a relative newcomer to photobooks, only having done two previously with My Publisher. I was keen to try Blurb after getting an email saying they were now operating in the UK.
Seeing the notebook format, I thought it would be an ideal gift for friends or family.
I received my book fairly promptly, much earlier than date indicated. So full marks there. The hard cover was excellent. But the content of the book is spoiled by the poor quality paper. I had used 40 pages and the book appeared very thin. The photographs had printed poorly with striped, grainy appearance, especially where there were large areas of one colour, such as sky. But had the colour been more densely printed, the thin paper would have been saturated. It was reminiscent of poor inkjet printing. Images also showed through the thin paper.
I would not use this format of book again because of the paper. However if you do wish to make one, its probably best to use small images on the page and do not use a background colour as this will saturate the page. Probably also be better with soft cover, because this would be more appropriate with the quality of paper. That would also make a fairly cheap but individual gift.
I love the Blurb web site and reviewing the amazingly talented creations submitted by other people. I first came across Blurb when I was looking for a way to produce a picture book that had been a project for about 20 years. With Blurb it was finished, published and on the coffee table in a month. The what-you-see is what-you-get format gave me enormous confidence and allowed me see the book emerge in stages - what an incentive! I have now written 4 books. The most recent creation is a text book and I utilised the Microsoft Word upload mechanism - which worked brilliantly. Thank you Blurb - you made me an author!
I knew what I wanted to make my sister, but I didn't know how. Blurb allowed me to design a professional looking book full of Facebook quotes, photos and memories. Now she has a Facebook book to treasure.
Good quality printing, and helpful and clear format for building your vision.
Definatly will be using again in the future.
I've made numberous photo books before and as a print designer, I've always been dissapointed in the quality of the print when it arrived, so I was nervous about using Blurb to create a coffee table book of our wedding pictures. After a chance meet up with some of the team at a creative event, I was able to view samples and see the quality of the product and the difference in papers, and I left feeling inspired to start the book.
I chose the Pearl proline paper on a hard cover image wrap, large landscape - over 240 pages. It was a labour of love and I was still nervous about the end result.
Less than 2 weeks later it arrived and we are delighted. It's so beautiful. Exactly my vision. The images are vibrant and the quality is fantastic. I've since ordered 2 more copies for family and they were blown away by them. I can't find fault at all. The software is great and easy to use if you are not a deisgner and versertile enough to not be frustrating if you are a designer and want to use it. The shipping cost is another great thing. I sent one book overseas and because Blurb print and ship locally the costs for shipping remain local but the quality is still consistant.
I won't hesitate to recommend Blurb and will definitely be using them again.
SO I decided to have some of my work in a book, and i was so please with the pricing, the quality and how well it is bound together.
I selected the 'no rush' option for delivery and production, and it was due late October 2012, and i got it the Friday on the same week as ordering, it on the monday. I was so very impressed with the turn around.
maybe they could add a pixel to inches etc.. calculator as online it was hard to find the right one!
downside i found was that their online software doesn't give you margins and gutter and i was a bit peed off with that, as i lost some of the information.
but over all I think the whole lot the service the software is fantastic and the quality is magnificent.
The book was for a photography customer so I ordered a proof copy first, which was excellent on the premium lustre paper. The proof arrived earlier than predicted but fortunately I was in to receive it. I subsequently ordered copies for my customer and his family and passed on the detail about expected delivery date. The books were printed and shipped so quickly that by the time I received the shipping notifications one had been delivered and two were out for delivery so I was unable to tell my customer the new expected date. Since then I've been called by FedEx twice and received emails from Blurb telling me that FedEx will only hold parcels for "a few days" - all this only the day after the first delivery was attempted. I've passed on the information but what use is an email saying the parcel will only be held "for a few days"? A date would be more useful. And what's the hurry? You sent the parcels earlier than expected and I didn't ask for express delivery. It's all very well delivering things early, but I'd rather have an accurate estimate of the delivery date in the first place.
This was the first time I had ever used Blurb. It was so easy to use and the templates were really idiot proof.
Any changes which required to be made were done so at the click of a button.
The thing that I was amazed at was the delivery time. From the site, I was led to believe it would be 15 days but it was delivered well within this time frame.
I have already recommended Blurb to others.
I found the software easy to use and full of possibilities to create a book that was unique. Choosing the styles, page sizes and layouts were easy and I enjoyed customising the layout to create an interesting book of images, full of variety and interest. The quality of the books I have received has been good, colour and brightness were close to what my computer screen was showing and I was pleased with the end results.
Finally The delivery time from order was ahead of predicted delivery dates in all cases.
We wanted a permanent record of the kids in the form of a photo album. However the kind you buy in most stores are pretty useless, with sticky corners and/or sticky transparent wraps. Using the Lightroom 4 Blurb option, I designed an album with such ease, being given a price before submitting. The design process is a piece of cake, it really is very easy. I was amazed that although Lightroom works in RGB colour space, that actual printed page was exactly as shown on my monitor. I'd have no hesitation in recommending Blurb to anyone who wants a hardback collection of their photographs, a truly excellent service. By the way, I do not work for Blurb or have any commercial interests in their product.
blurb is such an easy and personal gift to make. I created my friends book for a 30th gift. The quality, and the speed it was made was great....cannot wait to give it to my friend. After you have got your head round creating it, it's so easy to do. Defintely recommended.
I have to use different computer systems for my work in local government - they are frustrating and the baine of my life but using Blurb was an absolute delight. I took time to watch the lesson a few times, which was pitched just right, after which I was able to get started immediately. The tools are very easy to use; my pictures easy to import; my mistakes easy to rectify; the artistic choices ample, I cannot find any fault in using the system.
The book arrived beautifully bound, with high quality pages and pictures and within the time stated. The end result was perfect!
I wanted to do a photo album to mark a friend's birthday, and Blurb made it easy — and affordable. The pictures in the finished album are very well reproduced, it all looks exactly the way I envisaged it, and it arrived ahead of schedule, which was a bonus. I surfed some other websites but Blurb was the simplest and friendliest. I'm very pleased with the result, and I recommend Blurb without reservation.
Have just recieved my first book from Blurb and I am so pleased and proud of it. It was a book of my own paintings and drawings and the quality is amazing, it is so professional and easy to compose. I would recommend Blurb to anyone who wants to see thier work in print.
A beautifully written book which comes from the heart of the author. As a student of A course in miracles myself and someone who has lived with the same illness as the author I found that every line resonated with me. I love the quotations from the two holy books and the poetry smacks of truth and integrity.
Blurb is a great asset for anyone who enjoys home-made books. But you do have to review your masterpiece rather carefully. Even after a lifetime in journalism I have made some basic proof reading mistakes. I thought I had wiped out page numbers in one of my books, but of course, reviewing it late at night I managed to miss some page numbers that turned up in a small font in an unexpected area.
It is also essential to download the picture sizing instructions and to look on the web for answers to those difficult to solve layout problems such a putting a title on the spline of your book.
Otherwise I have enjoyed every minute of a "wing it" approach to Blurb book making.
I decided to do a "this is your life" style book for my Mum. I wanted to include lots of old photos, memories and each one of her children and grand children would write some text to share some of their memories of her and how they feel about her. The result: lots of tears from Mum but a wonderful gift to keep and share and a great way to preserve some very old photos.
I found the software relatively simple to use and, despite getting lots of "low resolution" warnings for the old photos, the book turned out far better than I could have hoped for. All in all, I would say BLURB's site/product was fantastic, it's given our family a lot of pleasure and the actual book itself was fabulous quality. Would definitely recommend.
I have only one criticism and that is that the spine of one of the books I ordered has a mark on the fold on front of the book! The other book, which is exactly the same, is fine. Otherwise I have no complaints. I like the way, with it being a Wedding book, the book looks inside making it look special. The paper it's printed on looks great!
I would expect a reply regarding the one criticism I mentioned above. Perhaps as a gesture of goodwill, seeing it's the first time I've used Blur, a new unmarked book could be sent out, as it is a present for my mother-in-law!
I work in print, but the easy to install and set-up app through indesign was a doddle. The file creator was excellent as I could go back and change my order at any time. Clean and clear instructions through mad the experience great. Will definitely be back to print my portfolio.
My latest book was completed in October this year 2012.
Although this was an A4 size as opposed to my first book which was the the largest in the range, I found the experience interesting and fulfilling.
I used the templates provided and found them more than adequate although concentration is needed every step of the way.
The explanatory video was most helpful in the first instance.
Will be undertaking a further project later in the year.
I always wanted to publish a few of my books but have no idea where to publish them. Was searching on google when blurb comes up on the search results I give it a try and see how it goes after download the booksmart software it was real amazing. Published my first book in just a few clicks. When I received my book in print and again amazing look and good making. Thanks to blurb.
Thoroughly enjoyed the process.
We are really pleased with our book, the quality is wonderful and would recommend upgrading the paper to the pearl finish.
The program is really easy to use, allowing you to create you own layouts for pages aswell as using templates provided.
Very happy customer :-D
thankyou Blurb ~love my book~ first attempt at self publishing and even if no-one buys it i LOVE it~ i expected some mistakes, poor qulaity (dont know why~just prepared myself)~ the qulaity was superb, superbly put together~ very efficient~ great easy program to put the book together~ im going to do a series now, saving up for my next one~ even though my book was well cheap ! ~thankyou i absolutely love it !!!
I used Blurb Books to create a 200 page large square imagewrap photobook for a client whose wedding I have just photographed. The Client was delighted with the quality of the book and I anticipate further orders from their family and guests
This is a very good product at a reasonable price and after a few glitches with the Book Smart software I was able to produce a stunning album using many of the templates available
Three times in the last ten years I have lost all my pictures. But now, thanks to Blurb my best pictures will last forever.
Sure, it is not perfect (yet, I really wish I could set the default font!) but it is rediculously easy. For example, spell check would have caught that last sentence.
I've done over ten books so far, and I have loved each one. I can also see how my skill at photography [and bookmaking] has improved over the last year.
Simple photobooks with text are easy to produce at a very reasonable cost. I am still on a learning curve when it comes to creating a well laid out and easy-to-read book. This is due to a lack of experience in writing suitable text and integrating illustrations, and has nothing to do with the Blurb software. I am now working on a much more ambitious project for which I need to perfect using Autoflow of text so that the illustrations remain properly located. I have no hesitation in recommending Blurb.
they can't print with any sublety - the appearance of the book on the layout page is not what you end up with, pretty much a huge exercise in wasting a lot of time
- I did however get my money back so at least thats something
I actually got a link from redbubble to a promotion to create a free small book. I figured I should take up this opportunity to make a mini portfolio. I downloaded the app and started editing it was so easy to use and you can make it however you like by editing the templates in detail. I found this really cool and when I was happy sent it off to print. I then waited for it to come, it actually came earlier than I was quoted first. It was packaged fantastically and the quality of print surpassed how I ever could have imagined it. I am definitely using them again an telling all my friends if they need a book printed!!
I am experiencing great difficulty uploading text into my Blurb book of text and photographs. I write on a MacBook Pro laptop using Word 2008 vs 12.3.4. For my softproof I uploaded the Word.doc text and flowed it into my book. The result was awful. Layout, word spacing, font size, all went to pot.
I would be so grateful for help and advice how best to incorporate some 5,000-6,000 words of designed & laid-out text into my book. I must use Booksmart and the Blurb templates. My choice of template is 'Portfolio'.
I never thought I would see my own work in print but Blurb has such a clear and easy to follow process that I enjoyed the whole experience of creating my own publication. Once received, I was delighted with the quality and colour reproduction. I will definitely be using Blurb for any future publications.
It's easy to make a book with Blurb, process your images, download the the BookSmart software, upload your images and once you've designed the pages - away you go - job done. It's quick and easy to order a book too and the quality is great. Lemon Squeezy
I am very happy with my blurb book, must admit I initially had a few hiccups but the customer service was truly excellent and transformed what could have been a negative into a big positive. For this reason I would definitely use blurb again as I feel very confident in their customer care & felt that they really did want to make sure I was completely happy with my final result. The software was also easy to use & enabled alot of creative control for the customer..
I'm massively impressed by the quality of the binding, paper and printing, and the purchase and delivery went smoothly. However I am a bit uncertain about whether it was printed correctly - I have a friend in publishing and he looked at the photos in the book and said "they're over-inked by 30% or so" - and they look dark. It was the first thing I noticed. Darker than I see them on my monitor, and darker than when I print them out without editing at various photo development places. It makes me uncertain about whether I want to embark on a more ambitious printed book that is larger and thicker. I just don't know...
This is the 4th book I have made through blurb and the first book that I have made for myself. I have continued (and will continue) to print with blurb, as the quality is better than any other I have seen and the price reasonable. I was so happy when my book arrived this morning. I was worried as I had such high expectations, but it is exactly how I imagined. Thank you so much and I look forward to ordering my next book!
