I surfed a few comparison websites based on entering information and choosing insurance between them. I found a quote I was happy with on a competitors site. Confused.com pass your details, which you cannot opt out of to one of two insurance companies which cold call you to do a quotation over the phone which turns out to be more expensive than the online searches. Its neither beneficial or warranted to have them phone, as the whole point is with comparison sites is you make your informed decision between hundreds of insurers, so why do I want a call from one of two specific insurers which obviously pay confused.com a commision for my information! They relentlessly call while im working shifts, leave no messages.
I use it for all my insurance shopping (cars & home). I've managed to beat my renewal premium every time (sometimes even with my existing insurer). I don't have much time to shop around, usually leaving renewal until the 11th hour!
Another thing I like about it is how I can see what I paid for my insurance last year, and the year before that, and the year before that... etc... (for all the years I've used it for). It's always interesting to see yet another claim-free year not make a blind bit of difference!!!
The insurance companies that take pride in "not being on comparison websites" are missing out on a great deal of valuable traffic. I used to call Direct Line for a quote each time, but they were never competitive enough so now I don't bother. Methinks the money they don't pay in commission to comparison websites is spent on advertising, because their quotes certainly are not any cheaper.
You can probably barter over the telephone for a better deal, but if you can't be bothered, are too busy or if you're like me and not facing that massive a renewal premium anyway, then comparison websites are the easiest way to shop for insurance, and confused.com is the comparison website I use.
People who think the site is complicated ought to spend the night filling identical forms with the 100+ different insurance companies to see how easy that is.
Used for a car I am looking to buy, found the website a litte confusing but most importantly found that the insurance was more expensive than what I have been offered by my current insurer. Then went to another provider and saved £28.
When searching for car insurance on Confused, be aware that on EVERY search you run they run a credit check on your name which could be potentially damaging to your rating.
Also, when it gave me the results and I tried to buy - as soon as I clicked the BUY THIS POLICY the next page the price was £250 higher!

After the first year of cheep insurance Likewise increased my preminum by £200. During this year I had made no claims and had an additional year NCB. I contacted Likewise, but they were very rude unhelpful and not interested in the Business. So I went else where, and provided notice to Likewise to cancel my policy. This was not done, and the preminums continued.
It is now over 6 weeks, and I am still battling to get a refund. Not to mention I have had to do all the leg work and prove to them validity of my new insurance. I have made over 16 phone calls and all I get is promises.
Not an insurance Company I will recommend to anyone.
