Ive been buying on ebay for a while and been extremely happy with the deals.
But my recent selling experience was bad enough to write a review .
Main reason I would give ebay a negative review is because of the fees. No lie 11% of all money made from eBay has been paid to ebay in fees. I have had 3 people commit to purchase and they never paid and I ended up having to pay fees because these people. Not to mention paypal has a fee also.
So overall if you are trying to clear out your house go ahead and sell on ebay. If you want to make a decent profit you better be buying your product at least 60% below retail.
So basically your paying a good chunk of your profit to compete with 1000s of other listings. Im not sure what the upkeep is of ebay but im positive they are making a lot more than whatever it costs. It wont be long until another reasonable auction site is made
I have been buying & selling on Ebay since 2000 so 14 years, in this time I have witnessed Ebay's slow decline in customer care & their ever increasing greed. If you are looking for a bargain then Ebay is great & should things go wrong then you are fully protected & guaranteed to get your money back. If you are selling on Ebay though be warned, Ebay is a minefield as sellers are left wide open to fraudsters & feedback abuse as Ebay take the buyers side no matter what the circumstances may be. Ebay allow buyers to leave good, neutral & negative feedback for each item they purchase yet the seller can only leave positive feedback for a buyer which leaves sellers wide open to feedback abuse & blackmail. Also Ebay selling fees have reached the point where it simply isn't woth selling any more as they charge 10% selling fees & now even charge 10% commission on postage costs which is simply scandalous! Then when you sell an item you have to offer PayPal as a payment method which is fine but they also take a commission & guess what, Paypal is owned by Ebay so altogether with listing fees you are looking at a total of 15% commission on any item you sell which is simply extortionate & shows Ebay's true greed! I just hope another auction site comes along soon to rival Ebay as they currently dominate the market & so seem to think they can charge as much as they like leaving us pure honest ebay sellers well out of pocket. To sumarise, if you are buying on Ebay then I'd give 4 stars but if you are selling then I'd give just 1 star & so a combined total of 2 stars overall.
As both a buyer and a seller on eBay, I am going to give an average review for the Buying aspect of eBay. Often being able to find anything and everything on this website, I love treating myself to a little secondhand bargain. Buying on this website is as easy as can be; and i find it mostly goes without a hitch. Business sellers on eBay are particularly good at customer service and fast dispatch. I feel very safe when buying on here because I know if I am not happy I can get a refund ( which I haven't had to yet)
However, as a private seller of things I have no use for anymore I am often crippled by the fees. I am another seller on eBay annoyed at how eBay now charge fees on postage?! So now, I have to up my postage so I don't make a loss. I often dread to look at my account balance near the end of the month because I know my eyebrows go up every time I check. I am a seller who stumbles over my feet to give excellent customer service; and sometimes, unfortunately excellent is not enough and I am penalized. eBay should learn how to reward the sellers that makes the business they are running.
I have never had such a massive problem I needed to contact customer services about so I can't comment on their effectiveness.
I have tried eBay for both buying and selling and have problems in both ends dealing with disputes. After being sick by the ever-changing TCs and nasty polices, I decided to search for alternatives.
UK startup hirejungle.co.uk launched a while ago a service for 'try before you buy' Bay items. I have used it 3 times for buying electronics, having returned my Ipad in one occasion, and I can confirm the service was superb. You should learn from SMEs eBay!!
Here is the link to that try before you buy section: http://www.hirejungle.co.uk/rent-ebay.html
Ebay did not give me back my money for the purse that I bought and did not receive. If you buy an item, mailed to you, and the tracking number says it was delivered even though it was not delivered in your mailbox, then you will just lose your money. I just lost 86.00 to an item that I did not have. very frustrating. bad experience. I will not purchase anything from Ebay anymore. never!
A lot of sellers here moaning that things are often stacked against them. Thing is, as a buyer this is why I shop on ebay - because I know I'm never going to get be let down. Items turn up quickly, and if there is any problem sellers fall over themselves to help. If it wasn't for eBay, none of those sellers would be getting my money. Only Amazon offers a comparable service, but it's eBay that have revolutionised how you deal with lot's of individual traders - an amazing achievement.
If you're a buyer eBay's OK but if you're a seller eBay works against you. A buyer can leave a negative feedback without contacting the seller but the seller is not allowed to respond with a negative even if it is well-deserved. If you contact eBay to try and get fairness you will come up against a brick wall as the people on the end of the 'phone cannot think for themselves as they are just ruled by those far above them. It is a shame that there is not competition to eBay as, if there was, they would have to be more reasonable and equitable. Also, and people I tell about this find it amazing, if the seller posts an item and the Royal Mail fails to deliver it, the buyer can leave a negative that eBay refuse to remove. eBay says it is the seller's responsibility to ensure delivery. Does this mean the seller has to drive round the UK or indeed the whole world delivering their items by hand??? Unbelieveably biased eBay!!
Before you sell anything on ebay check out all these reviews on tustpilot. They are true about selling................
Ive had a very bad selling experience and now ive got a phone that's been damaged by the buyer after using it and abusing it but ebay give them a full refund and even the shipping costs back, the buyer even kept the cover for the phone.
Sold a phone before xmas, used condition but in full working order, reason for sale i upgraded and my phone and it has had a cover on since the day i got it , The buyer received it two days later all ok...
Two weeks later they decide that they don't want to phone as it the speaker isn't working on the left (by the way this is a microphone and it wont work as a speaker) and a pixel is broken. so they open a case and guess what!!!!! ebay side in the buyers favor and tell then to return the phone.
I receive the phone back with more scratches on than it went with and guess what nothing wrong with the phone. Oh and they6 are allowed to give me bad feedback and i cant give them feedback.........
I email ebay back to say ive found damage on the phones return and they say in a nice way( we didn't see the condition of the phone on its return but ....tough luck , We have now refunded the buyer and you are now due ebay £125. pay up or we will put your account on stop and send in our collectors.
Where is the justice....my first time selling on ebay and definitively my last.
I had been using ebay since around 2001 for buying more than selling, when I did list an item for sale, in their wisdom they decided it 'violated' their policy. Despite a telephone call which was answered by someone who was very nice but didn't speak very good English so didn't understand me, and numerous emails which were answered with ebays infamous template responses I got nowhere, I was trying to explain that they had made a mistake and the listing was indeed correct, they saw fit to respond by sending me instructions on resetting my router!!! Then they stopped responding all together and ignored every email I sent them. The customer service of this company is diabolical, they send template responses to you which have nothing to do with your querie, and then stopped responding all together, so I closed my account and took my business elsewhere where I feel valued as a customer. My advice is not to use ebay, they're losing customers en mass, and I can see why, they're fine when you don't have a problem but diabolical when you do.
Purchased 2 cell phones recently. Listed as not underr contract when they were. Sellers kept paying on phones until 45 days had passed. Then the phones were blocked. Ebay refused to refund me or take criminal action on seller. In fact seller is still listed as active on ebay. So much for my $476.01 that I am out. Way to support your members ebay! Credit card thru pay pal no help either!!!! $$$$$$$ how sick is this. It could happen to any of us.
I don't understand why eBay thinks once a seller gives you a refund you should be happy!Even though the seller promised to resolve it by sending the item I paid for initially only to renege on it.Well am not!!! I didn't get what I ordered for a Christmas gift but I thought better late than never, but weeks later I find out am never going to get it and have to start shopping around for it all over.
Have used eBay for a number of years. Always been a fantastic experience. Huge selection of products, great service from sellers and eBay's customer support is great too. One of my favourite places to shop.
This is not a bad review i really do enjoy using ebay, However it used to be so much better. If the prices to buy & sell keep rising as they have been doing, i wonder where ebay will be in five years from now? To be honest i don't think the royal mail price increase for small items has helped the matter. For sure there has been a steady decline in the ebay experience compared to five years previous. I hope it improves, Brilliant site for finding spares or used items you may need that are no longer sold by retailers
I NO LONGER USE EBAY AS A SELLER. THEY ARE THIEVING SCUM. I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE AS WELL BEFORE YOU LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY TO THIER FEES AND UNFAIR PRACTICES. I no longer sell on FeeBAY because they hate their sellers. I'm now on amazon.
You've got no rights as a seller. I've been selling on ebay for last 5 years and thinking to remove all my auctions. Cheap stuffs coming from abroad (don't comply to UK safety standarts) with no customer service and warranty. I try to provide quick service and give the full uk warranty. My costs are lot higher to keep the stock in the UK and provide warranty service. My listing will never appear on top of the listing category as the price is slightly higher then other. Ebay don't care about "their sellers" in the UK if not you there will be someone else who sales cheap s...t
I used to love using Ebay. But, I have grown disappointed with the increasing number of sellers selling items as new which are actually used or defective, then not being refunded return postage by either seller or Ebay. Feedback is a joke – as this can easily be removed by Ebay for the smallest reason and there appears to be no / little repercussion for the seller who continues with their crooked practices without other buyers being made any wiser. Unlike Amazon, the only way to check whether an item has had bad reviews, is by scrolling through all of the seller's feedback. Customer services is also going down hill rapidly. The staff are friendly enough, but I believe that they are working with an inefficient system and many policies which either do not work or are bias / not fair (with no discretion allowed or common sense). I've increasingly become very wary of buying items on Ebay and instead I seem to be using Amazon more – who have a much better system. Even selling items has become very expensive - as they seem to keep increasing their fees and there is little flexibility with how these are paid.
