ebay fraud

Purchased 2 cell phones recently. Listed as not underr contract when they were. Sellers kept paying on phones until 45 days had passed. Then the phones were blocked. Ebay refused to refund me or take criminal action on seller. In fact seller is still listed as active on ebay. So much for my $476.01 that I am out. Way to support your members ebay! Credit card thru pay pal no help either!!!! $$$$$$$ how sick is this. It could happen to any of us.

Nicely Designed, Fee's Too High

I've been using eBay since 2007. While I've not had many issues with the company itself, the user base is horrific. Buyers are always right, even when they're wrong, and get more rights than sellers.

Be careful when selling expensive items, people are normally OK, but there are some scammers out there.

Good but it could be better

I really like the ebay.co.uk site but it could be better. You can buy things from the site but it is not very good for navigating and searching things.

Annoyed

I don't understand why eBay thinks once a seller gives you a refund you should be happy!Even though the seller promised to resolve it by sending the item I paid for initially only to renege on it.Well am not!!! I didn't get what I ordered for a Christmas gift but I thought better late than never, but weeks later I find out am never going to get it and have to start shopping around for it all over.

Great place to buy and sell

Have used eBay for a number of years. Always been a fantastic experience. Huge selection of products, great service from sellers and eBay's customer support is great too. One of my favourite places to shop.

Used to be much better

This is not a bad review i really do enjoy using ebay, However it used to be so much better.
If the prices to buy & sell keep rising as they have been doing, i wonder where ebay will be in five years from now? To be honest i don't think the royal mail price increase for small items has helped the matter.
For sure there has been a steady decline in the ebay experience compared to five years previous.
I hope it improves, Brilliant site for finding spares or used items you may need that are no longer sold by retailers

THIEVING SCUM

I NO LONGER USE EBAY AS A SELLER. THEY ARE THIEVING SCUM. I SUGGEST YOU LEAVE AS WELL BEFORE YOU LOSE ALL YOUR MONEY TO THIER FEES AND UNFAIR PRACTICES. I no longer sell on FeeBAY because they hate their sellers. I'm now on amazon.

I'm removing my business from ebay !!! no more !!!

You've got no rights as a seller. I've been selling on ebay for last 5 years and thinking to remove all my auctions. Cheap stuffs coming from abroad (don't comply to UK safety standarts) with no customer service and warranty. I try to provide quick service and give the full uk warranty. My costs are lot higher to keep the stock in the UK and provide warranty service. My listing will never appear on top of the listing category as the price is slightly higher then other. Ebay don't care about "their sellers" in the UK if not you there will be someone else who sales cheap s...t

Great for Crooked Sellers

I used to love using Ebay. But, I have grown disappointed with the increasing number of sellers selling items as new which are actually used or defective, then not being refunded return postage by either seller or Ebay. Feedback is a joke – as this can easily be removed by Ebay for the smallest reason and there appears to be no / little repercussion for the seller who continues with their crooked practices without other buyers being made any wiser. Unlike Amazon, the only way to check whether an item has had bad reviews, is by scrolling through all of the seller's feedback. Customer services is also going down hill rapidly. The staff are friendly enough, but I believe that they are working with an inefficient system and many policies which either do not work or are bias / not fair (with no discretion allowed or common sense). I've increasingly become very wary of buying items on Ebay and instead I seem to be using Amazon more – who have a much better system.
Even selling items has become very expensive - as they seem to keep increasing their fees and there is little flexibility with how these are paid.

when it works it is great

unfortunately when things go wrong, things are abysmal. 3 times now i have tried to purchase things, and as soon as i have paid, the seller's item gets removed. I receive the item, but not sure what i am purchasing - ie am i being prvided with fake goods. ebay never give an answer - because they will never admit to selling fake stuff.

simply ridiculous.

Fees have QUADRUPLED in a few years 3.3% --> 12.5%

Here's is my small input from 12 years on ebay. I am not a professionnal, but I keep a tidy log of my buys and sales. Out of roughly 500 transactions, I averaged 3.34% of fees pre-2011 and since then... ta ta taaaa 12.51%!!!
Ebay pulled all the dirty tricks on the fees schedule:
1) plain & simple increase on the commission now 10%! especially on the higher tranches (I used to sell watches, not anymore... for a 2500£ piece, the commission used to be 57£, now it is 250£!!!)
2) commission on the postage! did not exist before, why should it since they are not the service provider.
3) Paypal whose commissions have also increased and now represent roughly 3-4% of the sale (so you pay twice as well: sell a piece at 100£, ebay takes 10£, and Paypal 4% not of 90£, but of the full 100£...)

Consequences: I inflate the postage to compensate for the 10% they take and move as much business a possible to Gumtree. All my expensive items go straight to auctioneers like Christie's where the seller's fees are close to nil.

Not as good as it was

The buyer holds all the power, you cant even give a slight negative even if the buyer pulls a fast one!

Sort it out ebay!

Ebay has gone downhill

If you read the economics paper 'A market for Lemons' you will see that this is occurring right across the internet, but massively so on ebay. Ebay is a market for lemons. I have been on ebay for 11 years now with over 1800 feedbacks. The last 15 purchases I have made have all had problems. Not as described, incorrect, damaged, general poor seller standards and products. Even the ebay company is suffering from the effect as they cut prices and wages back. Their offshore customer support who struggle with basic English will often add to your problems, despite pre written pleasantries about how ebay cares.

This is because ebay best match ranks the items that are selling - the lowest price items. Often now lowest price means general lower standards. The moody stock, and the sellers who will work for 50p a day.

Ebay has been destroyed by us all I guess as we buy from the cheapest seller, but for sure it at the moment is THE place to buy tatty, damaged, not as described, slowly posted junk, combined with zero or pathetic customer support. Enjoy.

EBay, BACK OFF!

I sold an item on EBay and the description could not have been more accurate. Buyer claimed it was not as described, raised a case and EBay refunded him. They have tried to claim the money back from me, despite my e-mails telling them, and the buyer, the phone was exactly as described. I would refund if buyer had genuine complaint but as he does not, I will not. Also I have researced (amendment - sorry this should read sought advice) and EBay have no legal right to refund money and claim it back from you. The sale is between the seller and buyer, they should only act as a "shop window, not as judge in case of dispute". See the following - Ebay had no legal right to interfere with the auction/sale.(which they did by instructing paypal to refund the money). It was a private seller/private buyer contract. Ebay only provided the mechanism for it to happen".
It is time for EBay to back off and stop interfering in something that does not concern them.

Absolutely appaulling

In early December I listed a piece of business equipment for sale on e-bay. 24 hours later e-bay suspended my account accusing me of fraud! Since then I have contacted them 5 times totaling wait for it 8 hours on their online chat program, I have sent in copies of my passport, driving license, receipts for the goods I was selling and every time I get told that they have not received it or that the images are not clear enough for them to read (funny how everyone here can read it just fine). To date they still have me listed as an attempted fraudster as as far as they are concerned I have not proven to them that I own the equipment, they will not call me back or allow me to speak to anyone in seniority nor will they give me an address where I can write in to them regarding my complaint and have now closed my account and told me I will NEVER be allowed an account with them again.
Well I've lived without ebay before and I'll live without them in the future, I just wish a few more people would boycott these idiots and then maybe they would begin to respect and look after their customers.

Hard to fathom that the worst scammers on eBay are the staff!

Listen to the following and judge for yourself:

Account suspended for 'opening too many cases'- but I only open a case when told to specifically by Customer Services? No appeal, no dept. handling it, no help.

Customer allowed to return a PC because 'just cant get on with it' (didn't even know how to turn it on.) Allowed them to win a 'not as described case'. No appeal, no help. The return arrived smashed, no compensation (as eBay free label offers no cover)

Allowed a customer to open a 'not as described' case saying “where's the windows” (for a PC listed without an operating system.) They were allowed to return it (using the eBay free label offering no cover- item smashed- £50 compensation for a £300+ item) because they thought windows came with it. “NO WINDOWS” about 3” high was in the listing, also in the title.

Allowed a 'not as described' case to be opened even though the buyer had received the item 177 days previous!

Allowed a customer to return a PC that he had made extensive modifications to including swapping out the RAM, the DVD drive, the graphics card (for a stupidly over powered one that caused it to explode) and had only ½ of the original parts. He was refunded and returned the item in a PLASTIC BIN BAG that destroyed it (no compensation) Appeal refused.

Allowed a woman to return a set of speakers (sold without the plug) because she thought “it should jolly well come with a plug” despite the plug-less state being in the title, the description, and confirmed in a pre-sale email. No appeal, no help.

Charged £112 fees twice, took 7 months to return it, in which time they had done exactly the same thing again, this time taking 9 months to return it. No appeal, no help,

Allowed a seller to win a case of selling counterfeit goods, because “only the owner of the copyright has the right to stop it” I was sent a warning of suspension because it was seen that I was trying to damage “a shop similar product sales competitor” (though he sells pet products, I sell PC's and he is a shop and I am a private seller) No appeal, no answer, no help.

Oh we have many many more, it boils down to most, if not all decisions are made as a result of automatic reactions to certain criteria. A refund in a resolution case is issued when tracking details are given by the client returning the item and NOT by the case ever being seen by human eyes, they could be returning a bag of hay for all they know- the issue is automatic. Chat customer service help are encouraged to handle up to 20 calls simultaneously so have no idea what is going on, I've been called by the wrong name, been given private details meant for someone else, had a PC called trousers, a washing machine and turf.

A call center complaint sent an operative to “get a manager” and actually came back on the phone posing as a manager with a different voice!

If we didn't laugh we'd have probably killed ourselves by now, our complaints whenever dealt with by UK help are actually giggled at because of their sheer stupidity, but once transferred to whatever third world country is in-vogue this week for call centers, they can't understand English, let alone the complex issues included in some of their incompetence and actually argue things that would have Basil Fawlty blushing.

If we could leave and never have any dealings with eBay selling we would go gladly, but alas you have to go where the dumb sheep flock.

Terribe customer service

They don't care at all, as a seller you have virtually no protection from scams, Even if a buyer has a problem with an item mot of the time the seller loses out even though its not their fault. Lots of hidden fees, 10% final value 20p here 20p there PayPal. At least on other platforms they tell you the fees upfront. AVOID
