Like many others, I received notification from DHL that there is VAT to pay. This came as a complete surprise since they have Uk domain and claim to be UK registered. They are clearly trying hard to mask the fact they are operating from China. Nowhere on the website there is a warning about the import duty. They responded by saying that the p.15 and 21 of the T&C mentions that customs clearance is my responsibility. They also say that I have to pay £15 admin fee + postage back to wherever it came from. I won't let them off easy...
There are VAT and Custom duty applicable, which is NOT mentioned while you are looking at the product details or when you are on the checkout page. I bought a Tamron lens for £218 for which I was made to pay £75 just before delivery. You cannot cancel your order at that point because they apply a £15 admin fee and make you pay the return shipping to HONG KONG as well. You are left feeling extremely cheated.
I found this camera lens in an internet search. It seemed to have the best price of all the pages I searched (20% cheaper). I should have suspected there was a catch. It turned out it is delivered from Hong Kong. I live in the UK. The curier company delivered it normally but a few days later (the item already in use) I received a letter from them asking me to pay VAT and customs duty. Strange that they deliverd without asking for the taxes first. Anyway I have actually to pay for it 10% more(!) than if I had bought it through Amazon for instancte. So this company does not offer bargains; Actually it makes more profit than others. Nothing against that, if they are smarter good for them but they simply didn't show any Customs warnings nor warned they are in Hong Kong in the checkout process, as serious companies do: This is a Swindle, no more eGlobal for me. As for the product it was delivered in time and I am happy with it so far.
Despite the order summary of my tablet showing a certain value, with no sign of any delivery charges, days later I got a letter from DHL asking for £52! This was for importing item into UK. This was never mentioned on the order summary and is not mentioned ANYWHERE on the shipping and delivery section of the website. I will not be using this site again as the tablet turned out to be more expensive than buying from a UK store.
Firstly: They may be able to offer slightly cheaper deals that the UK high street but due to their warehouses being in Hong Kong you will be hit with duty charges to actually get it delivered which is not clear at all on the web site..
Secondly: My tablet was damaged (you don't get a UK warranty due to it coming from Hong Kong) the company do offer a 24 month warranty but you have to send this back to Hong Kong again and they will not pay for any charges incurred for duty etc..
so far my surface 2 tablet was £279 + £65 duty paid to DHL, then it was damaged and im sending it back today, however I am pretty sure that when it gets to Hong Kong the company will levy the duty on to my final refund (I am not having another one delivered as it will cost £65 again!!) what if it is damaged again???
Buy from any UK store and pay the little extra rather than using this company, its really not worth the hassle and actually works out more expensive once duty is added, let alone if you need to return the product!
The customer service centre on the website is also very poor, (RMA) a messaging system that is manned by people that don't understand what you are asking or trying to say and seem to give generic robotic answers..
overall a very poor buying experience for me, and equally bad when something went wrong, both in resolution and cost, I will not be buying from this site again and to save you all the hassle I would recommend that you don't use this site either, stay British if only for the peace of mind of your rights and customer service.
got an lg g2 with a armor case. First day order was listed as processing, second day they send me mail to say case not in stock requested cancellation of case and immediate delivery of my phone, they instructed delivery van was gone for that day. Then started reading posts here and got terrified. Then 2 days later I had the phone in my hand, and & refund for the case. I did have to pay customs 65£ for a 300£ phone to DHL. They might use template emails, and be at the other end of the planet but I got my order fast and everything is fine.
Best place to get quality camera gear at the best price, alhough goods were shipped from hong kong there were no problems and arrived in quick time, plus excellent communication updates via email on shipping status.
Goods were securely delivered by DHL with no additional delivery costs
On the positive side, EGlobaldigital Store offer competively priced cameras, a good service by courier and good updates on the progress through the despatch chain. The goods were as described and I was happy with the product I received. However, the web site does not make it clear that, in addition to the invoice amount charged, the customer is liable for import duties and VAT prior to delivery which amounts to around 25% of the purchse price quoted on the web site. There is also a £20 delivery charge on which VAT and duty is payable. It would be better if these additional charges were more transparent rather than being buried in the Terms and Conditions.
As below really, seemed a good deal at the time however once you add on the taxes that they don't tell you about you will be able to find it cheaper elsewhere! Dont get me wrong its good that they pay the taxes and don't try to avoid them, however I feel that its underhand that they don't make you aware that this will happen when checking out.
Just make it clearer and then you can make that informed decision
I bought a kindle paper white from what I thought was a UK based company as they had a UK .co.uk address. My £8 saving turned into a £16 loss when DHL requested a£24 customs duty payment. This should be clearly stated as plus vat on their prices if they are trading in the UK and I will be reporting them to Trading Standards.I have contacted them to request a refund of this payment and apparently it is hidden away in their terms and conditions. To add insult to injury they say that they will deduct £15 from my refund if I return the item plus I will have to pay postage costs back to Hong Kong. How these people can carry on trading despite all the complaints on their website and not showing their prices as plus vat defeats me and shows that they do not appreciate the loss of hard earned money by their customers and are just out to make a quick buck as I can't see them getting much repeat business from returning customers. Also note that the warranty is registered in Hong Kong so return costs make it worthless. I have registered a complaint with paypal asking for a refund of the £24 customs payment but I am not holding my breath as I suppose they will ask me to sort it out with the seller
I recently bought an IDL100 i-phone docking station from this company. The item arrived on time and I was happy with it...until two months later when I have received an invoice for £32.99 for import tax! Only when I start to read through the small print on the website do I find that goods bought and sent to the UK will be eligible for this. I cannot stress how angry I am that there is no mention of this during the purchase and checkout stage, this is an absolute disgrace! Needless to say I will not be using the site again and I strongly recommend that others also stay away!!!!
After hearing about this website and reading some of the reviews on here about eglobaldigitalstore.co.uk and the VAT charges i had a quick browse on the website. Took no more than a few minutes to find written details regarding the VAT and import charges that everyone is complaining about. It clearly states on the site the company is based in Hong Kong and international orders are subject to additional charges payable by the buyer.
"*VAT Charge May Apply When ordering goods from eglobaldigitalstore.co.uk, import duties and tax are applicable on overseas deliveries, which are levied once the package of purchased goods reached specified destination. The import duties and taxes levied on the invoiced order, as well as courier’s custom handling fee and any indirectly related tax and duties arise from custom policies are responsibility of the buyer/recipient, eglobaldigitalstore.co.uk has no control over these import duties or taxes. Any additional charges for custom clearance must be borne by you."
I am giving them a bad review as I think the website is deliberately misleading. The prices shown do not include Duty & VAT which DHL need before sending your purchase from the airport. The company is based in Hong King despite having a .co.uk website address. I bought a piece of kit at what I thought was a good price but then got a text from DHL to say I had to pay £61 before they will deliver. The returns policy seems to be that I would have to pay a proportion anyway and also pay the delivery back. I've also read reviews to say that the guarantee will be a HK based one so I would have to pay to send it there if it went wrong. The small type says at the bottom that the prices don't include these taxes so basically there is no way of getting it back I don't think. I want to know how much something is going to cost when I press 'Pay' not receive this extra bill later on.
My Goods were bought under good faith that the prices quoted were inclusive of VAT. Then I get a massive bill for Customs Duty and/or VAT that wasn't made clear by EgobalDigitalStore.co.uk.. Don't buy from this site. They don't state that the prices are exclusive of VAT. Not Happy ! I have ended paying full value TWICE.. If it is too good to be true that the prices are cheap they are cheap for a reason..
I purchased Nikon 35mm F2.8 from eGobaldigitalstore and they depatched me in few days and very quick, and found nikon 35mm F2.8 in beauital and very sharp for price. I am very happy with their services.
By showing prices on comparison sites and claiming free shipping without saying there is VAT and Customs charges that must be added, is sharp practice. if not fraudulent. Using a .co.uk web address is deliberately misleading. Products are as described, but guarantees are invalid in UK and the total price is the same as you can buy in the UK.
