I recently contacted Fields Data Recovery regarding a business laptop hard drive which became inaccessible through normal means. After speaking to the advisor, I felt confident that they would be able to help. The disk arrived with them next day and I took a call from the advisor late afternoon, who informed me that their lab were able to recover the data. He sent an email with a link to an online information system that showed me a full list of the files that could be recovered. A quotation was also included. Given the relatively small amount of data that was to be recovered and the short amount of time required to do the work, I felt that the quoted price of £395 + VAT was somewhat excessive. However, there was no scope for negotiation with them in this regard and I was left with little option but to proceed, as the data was business critical and therefore urgently required. The data was recovered, saved on a backup external drive (which I had also sent them) and shipped back to me with DHL on a next day service. On examination of the data, all was fine and I was able to transfer it back to the business PC. My overall impression of Fields is that they are able to provide a prompt and professional service. I wasn't particularly happy with the price and so it may have paid to shop around first. I also had to chase them for a full report on the drive problem, as it wasn't provided with the quote as their website suggests it is. Those issues aside, a good service.
