I had two phones insured with Gadget-Cover, and opted for the Accidental Damage Cover, Unfortunately my phone was damaged and had to be sent in for repair. I authorised my partner to speak about this on my behalf (after all how am I supposed to deal with a claim if I do not have a phone?), once this was all sorted the member of staff was hesitant to believe the claim due to the fact that my pet dog was on my bed (so what? - We all have our views and I see no issue with it, so why would that be a problem) this seemed a big problem and was questions at least 3 times! After a lot of communication they accepted my claim to which they called my partner and demanded a payment of £75 there and then over the phone, my partner got them to call me on a temporary number, and the staff member was unbelievably rude, questioned the whole story and then demanded I pay via debit card to which I did, I was then presented with a claim form, which had incorrect data on it, even my contact e-mail address was wrong, despite my e-mails and my account being correct. The phone was sent to the specialist repairers (luckily by special delivery) as I had no confirmation of receipt, 3 days later I e-mailed Gadget-Cover who advised it was beyond economical repair.. Surely it does not take 3 days to see that?? Upon asking for next steps I was advised a new phone would arrive within 5 - 7 working days. on the 5th working day I e-mailed them and was advised it was sent that day by special delivery and given a tracking number. This is now two days on and have still not received a phone and no tracking information on Royal Mail website.
Absolutely disgusting customer service from this company. and you constantly have to pester to get any update (majority of which are a pile of rubbish). When my policies come up for renewal I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere.
I am disabled and as such rely on my mobile in case of trips or falls which has happened on a number of occasions in the past.
I did read an article warning of insurance companies refusing to pay out or having any number of clauses leading to them refuse pay out but not refusing to take your hard earned money. Any way after reading Trust pilot reviews I decided up on Gadget cover, big mistake.
I am a very low user on the mobile sending very few txt’s and hardly ever making telephone calls, if anything I played games on the phone more than I used it for communication purposes, the phone was purely as an emergency backup.
Any way having bad hands and an awful memory I decided I would need accidental damage and loss protection having dropped mobile phones and misplaced them several times, but always finding them after having rung them and listened for them ringing.
Having taken out gadget cover I found myself in a position to make a claim, something I have never done on any insurance policy may it be house, car or gadget cover. May I first say the procedure is far from swift and you may find yourself waiting several weeks for a replacement if you get one at all.
I had taken my son to Manchester airport and was returning once again to pick him up. He informed me his flight was landing at terminal one at twelve thirty lunch time, knowing it would take him a good thirty or so minutes to collect his luggage and make it through passport control I decided to wait in a road off Ring way road about a mile away from the airport to avoid the rip off parking charges. At around one I proceeded to terminal one car park having played on my mobile whilst passing the time, this is the last time I remember having the mobile.
Cutting a long story short I first contacted O2 to put a bar on the mobile having looked around the house and the car for the phone without much luck. I then contacted Gadget cover who informed me that I would have to contact the police which I duly did. Going on for two weeks later and several phone calls from gadget cover and a conference call with O2 who informed gadget cover that I was a very low in infrequent user, I received a letter from gadget cover informing me they were not going to replace my mobile as the last call I made was a couple of weeks before the item was reported missing.
In summing up, Gadget cover consider me to be a liar and a cheat, happily took my direct debit and duly refused to replace my mobile which has by now long gone. I am still and will for the rest of my life be disabled and now without a phone which could prove vital in the future if I were to suffer another episode.
It may cost you a bit more in the long run but I would stick to your mobile providers insurance cover as many specialist insurance companies want your money but don’t want to replace items when things go wrong.
I can only comment on the process to sign up for the insurance as I have not had to claim yet. This is a little concerning as really you don't know how good an insurance provider is until you make a claim. The process to sign up is dead simple with options narrowed down to fewer options that you'd expect. There are no options to select specific features of your iphone and manually typing "iphone 5 white 32gb" seems a bit strange. I've used the site for both my iphone and ipad mini and there were no hitches.
It was easy to buy the insurance for my new BlackBerry Z10, the website was well laid out &easy to use. I can't say how the claim service is as I only just got the phone. So the review only speaks about the cover offered & the buying process.
In the space of 10 minutes I saw an i-pad and a tablet get destroyed at my children's music school so I thought I should cover ours. I bought my Kindle in America so no insurance company will touch that, because it is so different. For my Nexus I went with Gadget Cover as the least worse choice of many options. They took my money and then some other company emailed with a policy, so they are just a sales front for someone else. Are they any good, how will I know unless something goes wrong? I hope I never have to find out. OK - 12 months later and I did need to use it. Dropped the tablet and broke the screen. Had to find serial number to start the claim, which in my tablet is in the software only, but fortunately I could still read it. Took about 3 long weeks to get the claim approved, but then finally sent it away and got a brand new one in the post 3 days later. While I was waiting for the approval, I did look up what it would have cost to repair the screen and it was slightly under what I paid with premium and excess so I could have done with out it, but it would have been more expensive for any other repair. Overall, I am glad I did it but I don't think I will renew.
I had a couple of separate problems after buying my policy online and both were sorted out swiftly and efficiently by named advisors. One involved getting a refund of money paid and this was done at the speed of light! Can't fault it!
I was annoyed with Gadget Cover as 13 days in after setting up my cover, they had not sent me any policy details, which leaves you no time to take advantage of the 14 day cooling off period After 13 days and 3 irate emails they finally sent me my details, which does not fill me with any confidence if I ever need to make a claim.
I bought an Eeepad, and thought Id do an extended service and warranty with them, after a lot of messing about I cancelled, and found Gadget cover and set it up with no problem, I hope the service is as good should I need them.
iPhone 4S was stolen and the insurers refused to pay out! They have relied on the wording of their agreement to defend their position at appeal. Their agreement uses a very narrow definition of 'unattended', which is unreasonable and I believe legally incorrect. Beware! They will rely on this not to pay out!
