Good low price option

I found Giff Gaff good, for me it has one main issue and that is its not recognised by the phone suppliers for me this meant with IPhone iOS updates i needed to keep re inputting the details in my phone

I would certainly use again if i moved from IPhone

Cheap and decent

Quite a good company, only issue I had is not being able to tether with it.

Cheap cost but also not quite the fastest internet but I would recommend anyway

No way of changing or upgrading service

This service sucks. Use in pc or tablet is not permitted in their standard subscription which is bad. You have to read the fine print to find it out. And if you signed up there is of course no way to change or even upgrade. Really bad product. Luckily for me there are alternative providers. And ways for me to warn others before signing up.

Astoundingly poor service & charged for services that had been terminated!

I had a GiffGaff SIM for about 2 years, not wanting to sign into a lengthy, expensive contract.
The prices of GiffGaff's 'goody bags' seem pretty reasonable, but be prepared for super slow internet, and instances of no signal for days on end. I was once left without the ability to call, text or use data for three days straight… in the middle of Manchester! Add this to a few other times over the course of two years, plus various instances of internet failing, calls not connecting and texts just not sending… yeah. Pretty self explanatory.

In addition to this, since using GiffGaff, 99% of calls to my girlfriend's phone (on Vodaphone) have been dropped mid-call. To put things in perspective, I've never struggled calling her from any other phone - even from my brother's phone on Three (who I've heard have gotten much better recently).

But what has riled me most has been upon leaving GiffGaff and transferring my number to another network. Having requested and received my PAC code, and confirmed that I would be leaving giffgaff on 2nd March 2014, I was STILL charged for a 'goodybag' on 5th March, despite the fact that I had received confirmation that I HAD LEFT GIFFGAFF, and my old phone and giffgaff SIM no longer received ANY signal. So I have been charged for something I CANNOT use.

I hence attempted to get in touch with giffgaff's customer support - for which there is NO number - and to talk to an agent online. I was guided through a FAQ's section, of which contained set questions - NONE OF which were relevant to my query. It would probably help to have an 'other' option. A suggestion maybe?

Giffgaff can probably be marginally redeemed by the friendliness of their agents in getting back to me, who were apologetic for the fact that their finance team WOULD NOT refund me, at all. Nothing. Zilch. Sure sounds like I've had my money stolen, doesn't it? (insert expletive here).

So my advice: don't bother. Frustration mounted on problems, more frustration, virtually non-existent customer service, dropped calls and infuriatingly poor data speeds. And then they'll find some way to squeeze a little more money out of you.

Giffgaff. The mobile network run by poo.

P.S. FAO the finance team. Give me my money back, and sure, I'll think about taking back my remarks.

AMAZING!!!

Been on the Giffgaff network 4 years or so now and i've never once had a problem. Value for money is definitely one way to describe this network, if only all other networks were like this. Signal is great, it's the same as o2 so if you can get signal on o2 you will get signal on giffgaff. The goody bags are such a great idea and offer amazing value for money! For £12 you can have 250 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet; don't see many other networks offering deals like this! The idea of having £5 free credit if you get a friend to register is brilliant, I love the idea of it! Unlike many other networks with giffgaff you actually get what you pay for with great value for money instead of being ripped off. Don't care what anyone else says giffgaff is by far one of the best mobile networks out there!

Great value for the more tech savvy

Giff Gaff seems to get slagged off quite a bit, but i've personally never had any problems or issues. OK, so there isn't a number you can ring if you do have an issue, but that's what keeps costs down for them. The value for money i get from GG is amazing compared to my last provider (O2) which is ironic as seem as GG rent the O2 network. My coverage and performance is exactly the same as when i was on O2. The only one thing i'll say about GG is that you need to be a bit tech savvy. Ive got an iphone and had to adjust the internet & MMS settings after putting in the SIM and this was easy to do, plenty of guides on the GG website. Some people seem to struggle with this and then complain. It was worth spending the 5 minutes changing the settings to save the amount of money i have over the last 12 months. I love GG and wouldnt switch back.

Poor

Nightmare of a company. Owned by Telefonica, the same company that owns o2 UK, giffgaff customer service, from actual employees (agents), is poor but the forum can help with general questions . God help you if you need to actually resolve a problem with your account, which can be many and varied, due to system issues, outrages etc because there is no telephone support only via messages to agents that take a while and the response is often useless.

They don't allow tethering but also don't really allow "unlimited" mobile data either. If you use more than a specific amount of data in a short time in the same location they claim you're tethering and block you. If you're not tethering you can plead your case but may still continue to be blocked due to volume or type of consumption. The other issue is 3G data is often slow to non-existent and way behind some other networks.

At face value it seems cheap and the service and performance certainly is cheap. Also be very wary of people also promoting giffgaff because they earn commission called payback from work on the forum or recruiting others.

Was ok a while back...

Recently things have got worse.. the tethering system thinking that tethering but not, blocking data and taking ages to sort it out. Outside of goodybags the data is now too expensive.
Replies to email are just clearly copy and paste without reading emails, the guys in the community are good and helpful though, just admin behind the scenes that need a kick...
Really should be 2 stars..

Excellent for the tech savy, and jarring experience for those not used to P2P/DIY support

Time for a more balanced view, of course there are issues with the network so far there isn't any perfect network out there time to have a dose of reality here.

1st and most importantly giffgaff does not hide any issues and outages when its a systematic bug affecting several member/consumers that is why there is a section on the forum called Service Updates people should use the forum more often just to check and post if you have the same issue often that is the key to get your problem solved faster. > http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Service-Updates/bd-p/Notice_board

2nd network coverage depending on location different networks have different network coverage in diferent towns and citites so allways a good idea to check before activating the sim:
http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Solve-your-questions/How-do-I-check-coverage/ta-p/3487749

3rd P2P and Agent Support mode as opposed to call centre the reasn why the service is cheaper is simply no staff and infrastructure costs, that is both a strength and a perceived weakness of giffgaff, its simpler then many people think if you have any account related query then consult a agent, if it is thigs like hardware support and other queries you can ask the members many are experienced and tech savy people all you need to do is ask nicely.

4th goodybags and gigabags from pay as you go they last 30 days and they do not roll over, on unlimited data no tethering allowed how ever if the data allowance is limited example 500mb, 1gb, 3gb it is allowed to tether i know of telecom providers that do not allow to tether even on limited allowances,

the most important thing is the flexibility they provide every month depending on usage patterns and users are allowed to buy these godybags at a time convenient to the member/consumer and unlike contract providers you can increase and reduce your allowances as you manualy buy your goodybags/gigabags every 30days or so as long as you do not auto-recurr your goodybags gigabags.

My final thoughts on this network, there are issues now and then however when giffgaff works well as it does work for myself its a marvel to behold.

If you are tech savy, open to learn how-to do things differently and used to self help and P2P support as myself then you can't go a miss.

Now lets be honest here every network has an issue and most do not openly admit it when things go wrong

giffgaff does not deny when things go wrong that is both a good thing and a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

as for me working for giffgaff i wish its the most fun and exciting place to work for as i witnessed on the open house and other visits to their office, if only i had something to offer work wise for giffgaff i would jump at the chance if it ever appears............

As for the negative reviews there are several reasons for them i'll admit some are right at times things do go wrong that happens for everyone,

some are just vengeance for having their account slaped with a tethering notice and not contesting it,

and some people are just not used to do things differently...

from pedromap giffgaffer per excellence

Most of these negative reviews appear to have been written by cretins.

I really don't understand some of the negative comments and complaints about this network.

Perhaps it's just they you have to not be a complete idiot and exercise some common sense.

Just a hint.. Not all 'outages' are giffgaffs fault. Firstly, they run on O2's network, so it's not their own infrastructure.. Secondly, of you experience a loss of service, then perhaps you should use the O2 fault checker to find out if there is an issue in your area with the local masts. As a Network Engineer, these are obvious to me and I appreciate this may not always be the case for others, but I think it's a little unfair to instantly blame giffgaff without understanding the full picture.

One of the negative reviews below complains that the £10 goody bag has double the minutes as the £12 goody bag. Obviously this user doesn't understand that this was not always the case.. The £12 goody bag was introduced for those heavy users like myself that want a truly unlimited amount of data and want the ability to tether. This was previously forbidden on the £10 bag, so the £12 bag was created to explicitly allow this, and the £10 bag was amended to include 1gb of data and so they doubled the minutes as a bonus to existing users of the £10 bag.

I mean come on people!!! You name me one other mobile network who actually change their packages to suit customers based on community feedback.. Don't worry, I'll wait while you try and think of one..

Another review complains about how it's impossible to leave? What the hell? It's not a contract you muppet, you were never tied down in the first place.

I think I've made my point..
To all new potential customers of giffgaff, I would suggest you check the O2 coverage in your area first and then give giffgaff a try. I've been a member for a few years now and recommend them to everyone I can. I've earned over £100 in cash/credit by giving out sims (something no other networks offer) and not one of them has had a bad experience.

And no.. I don't work for giffgaff before anyone tries to flame me..

It used to be good, but..

Last year it was ok, but by the end of the year, I believe with the growing number of customers, their network started to fail. Anyway, network coverage is awuful!!! It always disconnects
The only good thing about giffgaff is unlimited internet...of cource, bu you cant use it!!!
AVOID!

Would switch again, Ive had a good experience to date

Been with them 3 yrs now, theyve had some outages from floods etc... and being on the 02 network often suffer the same problems.

My switchover was smooth and setup a reoccuring goodybag...never had a problem or had to touch it. the £12 for unlimited data is good but ive stuck with the £10 and not even come close as always on wifi instead.

Personally i recommend to my friends I say whats the worst that can happen you switch and it doesnt work out its not like your stuck in the deal and can just cancel.

I hoep this review helped if so order from address below and get a free £5 credit on top when registering...i used my credit when abroad :)

Awful service, awful connection, tricky to leave

The mobile signal coverage is awful, the unlimited deals are not unlimited, customer support is close to non existent. And trying to leave is close to impossible (the phone number gives a "technical error" as does the web page). So much for "the peoples network", avoid at all costs.

Amazing Network

No network is quite like this, the value is epic, perhaps not as good as some other networks, but when you factor everything in (Which you will steadily learn when you join giffgaff) it just cannot be beaten!!

More frequent network outages, getting worse as time goes on

Third network outage in as many months, unable to make emergency calls and potentially put lives at risk. This is unacceptable.

NO POINT IF YOU NEED A GOOD SERVICE, AND GOD HELP ANYONE WHO HAS TO CONTACT THEIR USELESS STAFF

As with all mobile telephone companies, Giffgaff treat all of their customers with disdain and hatred.
However, at least with the others after speaking to 27 idiots you can eventually get the problem escalated to somebody with a brain cell, who, generally, will try and resolve their screw up.
Giffgaff on the other hand, will just cut and paste some completely irrelevant comment as their 'resolution' then mark the complaint as resolved and go back to sticking their fingers up their workmates, or whatever it is that they do all day.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU NEED, OR EVEN EXPECT TO HAVE A RELIABLE PHONE SERVICE.
DEFINITELY DO NOT USE THEM IF YOU LIKE TO USE DATA ON YOUR HANDSET!

Are these people really a mobile phone company? Thank goodness they are.

Giffgaff don't lie. They answer the questions you ask. They are not staffed by sociopaths. They do what they say they'll do when they say they will. They tell you what's happening.
I used to be with Orange, my goodness what a difference giffgaff is. Though this isn't strictly relevant here: Orange are the worst company I have encountered in 40 years in business. Totally ghastly company.
Well done giffgaff. Companies run by enthusiasts rather than corporate morons are the future.

Does what it says on the tin cheap calls

I have been with Giff gaff around 2 years now. They do excellent deals for a PAYG sim. Yes network has been down once or twice but its not a big deal these things happen. They have a good online log in system where you can track usage, top up etc. I cant rate the customer service as I have never spoken with them via email which is the only option. However I am glad everything has worked as I shouldn't really need to contact my provider unless the network is down and even in that case there is no need to contact.
