I had used groupon for quite a few purchases and on the whole was satisfied with the experience. However, after a period where my computer froze up and took all the relevant information with it, it was some time before I got a new device, and then eventually the groupon email was found in my spam folder and transferred to my inbox.
Soon I found something I wanted and I swiftly purchased and paid while looking for some credits that I had been given previously.
These credits were given not for a change of mind on my behalf, but for the inability of two merchants to fulfill there side of the deal. In both of these circumstances I would have preferred a refund to my account but instead was given credits.
But no credits could be found. They had expired.
I swiftly got in touch with a representative, who very swiftly replied that there was nothing he could do!
I have checked through my emails and I received no email warning of there imminent expiry and now I have lost money through merchants not delivering a service promised through groupon.
But who has the payments?......GROUPON !
Inflexible and poor customer service!
I completed my purchase today, I wish now that I hadn't.
After much back and fore, I eventually asked for my complaint to be put to a manager.
They came back and gave me the credit valid for another 12 months.
I have changed my star rating to two, as it has been a trying process, but to be fair they have eventually given credit back.
Hi, I recently came across a driving lesson package for my partner for £89.00 i thought wow bargain. I continued to check the small print which all seemed to pan out.
however when i came to book the lessons which stated "10 hours tuition driving test and pass plus" the gentleman explained that i would have to book at least another 15 hours of lessons on top of this at £20 per hour. I was furious as like most people that book deals like this don't expect to have more money on top of your original payment to pay.... In light of this i contacted "Groupon" to be told that i had misread the fine print and because it was longer than seven days after i purchased the voucher i wasn't entitled to a refund and they could only give me credits.... I was furious... why would I want credits i haven't used the voucher it does not expire until December 2013 and it was utterly misleading and disappointing this company should not be allowed to get away with matters like this and i will be taking further action. I PAYED WITH CASH SO I SHOULD BE GIVEN A CASH REFUND.
Ordered 2 sets of earphones that were never delivered, sent loads of emails but was only told there was a problem and slight delay? Groupon just said that as they had been sent by THEIR supplier un-recorded they could'nt do anything. I've lost my money by the looks of it.
Very poor company to deal with and I won't be using them again................
I'm fighting to get £634 back from this company having tried unsuccessfully numerous times to book a groupon holiday. They keep you holding for ages, are not interested in actually resolving issues and certainly not in returning your money even though I have not had the holiday. Definitely do not touch with a bargepole - they are highway robbers! Will be escalating my complaint to the financial ombudsman - if they think I'm giving up they've got another think coming!
I bought a voucher for a facial and massage, thinking that I could treat myself to some pampering in a lovely environment......
I stepped over a filthy, tattered doormat into the salon on a cold winters day. I was greeted by a lady dressed in jeans a thick fleece and woolly socks....no neat salon uniform? No. Bit chilly in here I thought. Maybe the treatment room will be ok. Ummm...nope! slightly warmer, but when you're in a state of undress it doesn't take long to cool down.
Whilst laying on my super thin bed, covered in scruffy, thin grey towels I notice the staining running along the ceiling and part of one wall.
The treatment itself was ok'ish, albeit from a girl of 17 in her 2nd year at College so she told me.
Her hands were freezing, and I became really quite freezing cold. Overall, I failed to understand how Groupon could sell this experience. Don't they check on any of it?
Clearly not. I was also given a price list whilst there and the prices given in no way reflected the great 'discount' that Groupon cited.
What spurred me to write this today is seeing the same voucher, same salon being sold at the moment.
I did complain about the experience, and got an £8.00 credit. Fair enough, but why are you selling the same shabby, substandard experience to other customers Groupon???
I ordered 4 hanging baskets from Gardening Express through Groupon on 19th May, the illustration in the offer was of a lovely full hanging basket packet with flowers. No vouchers were involved as Groupon were directly handling the orders. What arrived was a cardboard box, in the bottom of which were 4 small plastic pots, a heap of compost and some very battered and poor condition plants. I attempted to re-assemble them, but quickly realised the results would be awfull!
I contacted Groupon immediately and was told to complain direct to Gardening Express. This I attempted to do, logging on their website required passwords and customer numbers which I did not have. Telephone contact proved impossible.
I re-contacted Groupon and their rep said they would contact Gardening Express directly and arrange collection and refund. This would take 10 days. After 21 days and several emails to Groupon I still had no contact whatsoever from Gardening Express.
I have now been told by Groupon that they will process the refund without arranging collection, but this will take another 10 days minimum.
To really rub salt in the wound, exactly the same baskets as in this offer at £45.00 for 2 discounted to £19.90 are now on sale at Aldi at £3.99 each!
Decided to take a punt on groupon as they were selling Armani shirts reduced from £149 to £34.99.
A week later the shirt arrives and before even removing from bag I can clearly see its a counterfeit.
The Armani badges have stitching defects and the small GA is illedgible. The material feels thin and cheap.
The Certificate of authenticity was the real give away, Armani uses a technique called security borders to build up a raised lettering in tiny fibres which can olnly be seen when tilted to the side. Well these had the lettering pressed instead so were visible from both sides but the I was missing from Armani.
I contacted groupon within the hour of receiving but was basically told that its not their issue and to take it up with merchant.
Have emailed the merchant with no reply but not holding my breath.
Sold over 9000 counterfeit shirts, Groupon you should be ashamed.
I suppose if you want to keep your money, time and sanity give Groupon a miss.
Had acceptable response by email and confident Groupon are taking action on this matter. Added a star.
Will update further when matter is resolved.
i ordered 2 sets of toothbrushs ony recieved one order but money was taken out of my account for both orders sent 3 e-mails no responce first order would never bother with company again ,how can this company take money from our account and not deliver the goods

I purchased the following James Russell,
Cream Cooks Professional Multi-Blender Five-Cup , i have been given an address to redeem this the offer https:// www.james-russell.co.uk/groupon/1957blenders.cfm,
this link doesn't work , this needs to be redeemed prior to the 30th ???
2 times was no place to book, them i was forced to wait about 3 weeks to have my money back, and call and call.
The one successful one, i was just stolen. them my experience
with group on is TO BE AVOIDED.
I test today AMAZON LOCAL and is really different, and good.
As with the many of the other reviews on here, I got credit back for a purchase due to the company offering the service had gone out of business.
I was NOT made aware that these credits had only a 12 months to be used else they would simply 'steal' the money which is mine and have no further contact.
What is upsetting is that there is no even a simply email to let users know that their credit is about to expire, this to me seem a deliberate attempt to conceal their T&C's and avoid paying any owing money back.
I have asked Groupon to close my account and delete me from their database, I will never use this company again and if you are reading this would advise you not to also..!!
I recently purchased 2 different items from Gardening Express via Groupon.
The items were 2 x Hanging Baskets and 2 x Daisy Trees, the hanging baskets looked absolutely fantastic in the groupon advert as did the daisy trees so I purchased the items for my new garden.
Delivery time was a bit longer than expected but i was happy to wait as I noticed that Groupon had sold thousands of these plants.
What I did not expect though was what arrived via courier, first I received the 2 x Daisy Trees which were both dead when I took them out the box which I was not happy about, the following day my 2 x Hanging Baskets arrived which were supposed to be in full bloom as pictured on Groupon but what i got was 2 tiny plastic hanging pots which were both damaged containing one tiny petunia flower in each amongst a load of dead greenery and soil.
I contacted Groupon straight away and spoke to a very helpful chap named Colin who explained that if I was not satisfied that I needed to contact Gardening Express and they would arrange for the items to be collected and on their return I would receive a full refund.
He ensured me that if I encountered any problems with Gardening Express all I had to do was call Groupon back and it would be escalated to higher management who would contact Gardening Express direct and arrange a full refund for me.
What ensued over the next two days I can only describe as shambolic, I made several attempts to contact Gardening Express via phone and every time I called I went in to a cueing system which after about four minutes of waiting each time cut me off leaving me having to call again, then the one time I actually had a female answer I explained my problem and she put the phone down on me.
So it was back on the phone to Groupon where i spoke to a female this time who told me that she would contact Gardening Express for me and arrange collection of my dead plants and that I would receive an email informing me of when this would be.
Six days passed by and no email so I contacted Groupon again and was told that I had to wait ten days before Groupon would do anything else, then surprise surprise, within an hour of my call I received an email from Natalie at Gardening Express which contained a returns form but no details informing me as to when the items would be collected, so again back on the phone to Groupon where I spoke to the most uninterested, rude, unhelpful man I have ever spoken to in my life, how he got and is still in a customer service job I will never know.
Anyway Mr Customer Service employee of the year mumbled to me that I am responsible for returning the items at my own cost to which I replied " even if the items I have received are not as described and basically faulty" he explained that if I had a problem I had to raise a ticket with Gardening Express .
I have checked online to find the cheapest way of returning these plants myself and the cost of returning my dead plants which I Paid £55 for will cost me £20.
I have raised a ticket like Mr Customer Service informed me and 24 hours have gone by and still no reply.
I will now be contacting trading standards and dont think I will ever use the Absolute Shambles that is Groupon again.
Contacted groupon to request a refund as the restaurant I had a voucher with could not fit us in within the expiry period the restaurant, there was a mix up with the restaurant booking (we were originally told by the restaurant that we could use the voucher 2 days after it had expired- on the day of booking the restaurant said they had made a mistake as they could not do this as they would not get any of the money from groupon but told us that if we contacted groupon we would be able to get a refund). Groupon have not listened to the explanation and have just had responses saying groupon will not refund expired vouchers and that I need to take it up with the restaurant.
I have suggested that I would accept a refund in groupon credit that way no one was out of pocket or unhappy but I still being told that groupon will not refund expired vouchers.
I am very unhappy with the customer service and I feel that groupon are not concerned with customer satisfaction.
I purchased a discount voucher for 4 hanging baskets from Gardening Express via Groupon. The baskets finally arrived after a rather long wait. ( Certainly not the stipulated 5 days) The product was dreadful, 4 non matching plastic pots with rather badly potted and poorly arranged plants. The baskets had no resemblance to the advertisement and the plants wilted and sparse.
Gardening Express are difficult to contact but I finally managed through Facebook. They claim the baskets were damaged in transit but it is evident that all the baskets were badly thrown together. They say that Groupon are the only ones able to refund me and they can only replace the baskets. They have been very difficult.
I have called Groupon twice but they maintain I have to send the product back to GE . Groupon said they will issue a request to GE to contact me to ask me to return the baskets. once they confirm to Groupon they are in receipt of my baskets I can have a refund.
Groupon state that as it is a discount voucher it is not their responsibility. But GE claim Groupon is responsible.
I have to say customer service from both parties has been poor. I ordered the baskets in good faith but I have been left with a product that is unfit for purpose. To get a favourable outcome I either have to risk a replacement ie it may be as bad as the original or I have to wait for GE to request a return to maybe get a refund. Valued customer? Don't feel it. Companies used to pride themselves on customer care. Without out customers these companies can't function!
I have purchased several groupons in the past (NEVER again). Often what appears to be a good deal transpires to be the same price as standard or something cheap and substandard put together for the sake of groupon, I feel this is the fault of Groupon mis selling the products.
The customer service team are not very helpful, they fail to respond to emails and are impolite if you actually manage to speak to someone.
Stay away from this company and hopefully they will disappear and no longer rip us all off.
I am a big fan of Groupon. They are any day better than other wannabe daily deal websites.
I'm quite surprised to read a box full of negative reviews below. Looks like they are all made up by the small companies who are trying to get to their level!!
Moreover Groupon cherry picks their merchants who supply them with the offers.
Again Groupon you Rock!! Just carry on, atleast thumbs up from me.
Groupon is a discount voucher site and I have always found the Terms and Conditions to be clear and transparent. I have bought vouchers on about 30 occasions for everything from meals to cinema membership and have never had any problem redeeming them. On one occasion I cancelled a purchase (within a day of buying it) as it was for a weekend break and the company had no dates left to suit me. This was refunded onto my credit card within 5 working days and I had no need to contact Groupon further. I think if you take the time to assess the deal, read the T&C's and then decide whether or not to purchase you should have no problems with them at all. Read the small print people before you start crucifying a perfectly good shopping experience!

Bah! Groupon what a terrible bunch hiding behind voucher expiry dates etc. and refusing to give me any money or credit back. I have given them around £120 and I have nothing to show for it!
Quite some time ago, I purchased two items from Groupon, one Dentist Teeth Cleaning session and something which sounded quite fun which was where you can get your feet cleaned by guppy fish.
Well, having great teeth anyway I did not ever get around to using the Dentist voucher and called for a refund one day only to be told that this was not possible and that it had an expiry. Ok special offers can expire due to moving prices etc so fair enough but still I had paid for a service which I had never used and the nice lady I spoke to said that she would refund the voucher as a credit to my account. Fair enough I thought - if ever I am feeling poor and would like a treat them I know that I have £100 to treat myself on Groupon. I tried to claim back for the Guppy Fish voucher but was told that this had been used - well certainly not by me! Couldn't be bothered chasing this at the time but is shows some fraudulence or inefficiency on someone's part as I have never had my feet cleaned by little fish in my life!
Anyway, I thought I would tuck the credit away and having kept an eye on Groupon emails recently trying to decide what to buy, I called up (to make sure that they would put through an intended purchase on my credit) only be told that the amount they had credited back to me had an expiry date and that there was no way I would be refunded as I was part this again.
I was quite incredulous at this and just think it is downright theft and that I should have logged on to my Groupon account to make sure that I was familiar with the terms or the voucher and the expiry. I thought I had a credit and not a voucher and why on earth would I log onto the sites when I can see all the offers on the email.
I think that this is an absolutely cowardly defence and that I have given Groupon £100+ and they have abused my trust and stolen it from me only justifying this through some fairly loose references to terms and conditions.
Definitely going to investigate this further and raise my example with other consumer magazines. I am sure that publications such as the Daily Mail would love to conduct a little investigation into these malpractices. Quite wary of giving this case to them in writing too and getting more of the same and wasting my time.
Really disappointed as was quite looking forward to an exciting new steam cleaner. Groupon is a widely traded public company with tens of thousands of shareholders - I am sure they many would be extremely disappointed at these malpractices.
I bought a balloon ride for my husband from a company on groupon. We were very excited about the prospect of going up for a ride. Over two years I tried booking and rebooking rides, always to be cancelled.
The balloon company said there was nothing they could do about the weather and that we could pay anohter 60.00 pounds to renew for another year.
After yet another year and still no ride I went back to groupon and asked them what they would do about it. I explained that the balloon company would not even let us book a ride unless we had given them our voucher number which would automatically give the balloon company the money for our ride... even with no ride!
Since I had all the emails to prove our non existent ride Groupon refunded us the 200.00 without any hassle.
I was VERY impressed considering this was two years on.
So I cannot fault them on their service.
I bought a voucher for 4 hanging baskets. They arrived late after having to chase them up. They are nothing like the 'Hanging Baskets' in the picture, but are hanging cheap 6 inch plastic plant pots. I rang Groupon, they offered me a £5 voucher and said basically it had nothing to do with them. The company who sent the plants have done this to many people, not just with the hanging baskets but with many other plants sold through Groupon. Google have lists and lists of unhappy people. And Gardening Express are one of the most arrogant company's I have ever dealt with. I tried contacting the Managing Director Chris Bonnet, but they 'apparently and allegedly' were in Holland!
I asked for the Managing Directors name as I want to contact them. Groupon's Customer Service asked if there was anything they could do. Clearly not! A lot of the time the Customer service have not even replied.
It is now in the hands of 'Trading Standards' as I will not be ripped off. They have been very interested in Groupons response, as I am of the opinion that they have a 'Responsibility' towards this. they advertise Hanging Baskets. The have a picture of a Hanging Basket (The photo shows a hanging basket with what looks like a metal chain). They are falsely advertising the items, and giving time-scales which are totally different to reality and what Gardening Express say.
This company takes advantage of the fine print to ruthlessly rip off people.
I purchased a groupon deal as a treat for my sons. Because I submitted my perfectly legitimate claim for a refund after the expiry date they kept my money.
They should be closed down.
I purichased two groupons totalling £478 for a friend and myself in February this year. When I rang weekender breaks to redeem my vouchers the rep tried to make me pay a further £100 for the deal which I refused. Due to work commitments I was unable to contact the company and was under the impression (stated on groupon voucher) that my voucher was valid until 14th July this year. I contacted the company this week to book my holiday and was told the voucher had now expired. I contacted Groupon as was told the same thing. Groupon have taken my money and refuse to do anything about it. In fact their representative Steve was extremely rude and unhelpful on the phone and refused to let me speak to a supervisor. I would advise people NOT to waste your money on Groupon there are lots of other companies out there who will give you a good deal. I will NEVER use them again and will be advising all of my friends of what happened.
I have now received a full refund from Groupon!
I bought and paid for a voucher for a peppermill, which I was unable to redeem as I was taken in to hospital.
Groupon refused to refund and the company explained that they had not received the money - Groupon still had it. Quite why they wouldn't just offer some decent customer service and offer me a refund (it's only £12!), I have no idea!
Just seems shocking to me that they can keep my money when it is clear I did not use the voucher.... Reckon they can line their pockets quite nicely with this....
I also bought a bracelet which took 8 months and CONSTANT chasing to receive. Every time, I had to explain the situation again. Very frustrating. Then, when it arrived, it was a horrible, cheap copy!
Never, ever again
UPDATE: I DID email as requested below - UTTER WASTE OF TIME! Response (complete with grammatical error) as below:
"If you were you experiencing difficulty using your voucher, you should of contacted us during the validity period, for us to assist you. As this voucher has now expired, it can't be redeemed, or refunded."
Sorry Groupon - you were NOT the main concern on my mind as I lay in a hospital bed.... Heartless, pointless and useless

I would not advise ANYONE to use this company - their Customer Service is not a service it's totally unacceptable.
My daughter purchased some vouchers which she was unable to use following an accident. She explained this to Groupon who refunded her money in the form of credit vouchers. Because she then suffered severe complcations to her health she didn't realise that the credit had an expiry date.
Having now almost fully recovered she thought she would treat herself to a day out using the credit she had (over £100.00 incidentally) hoever, when she came to use it and logged ito her account she discovered that ot had "expired". Thinking that there had been a mistake she emailed the Customer Service department asking them to reinstate the missing money. Only to be met by a refusal. Further emails have been summarily dismissed, even though she explained the circumstances.
Groupon are an unfeeling, uncaring bunch who do not put their customers first and use their terms and conditions as a way to steal unsuspecting customer's money. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.
Me and my wife bough some shoes via Groupon from James Russell, one pair they sent were faulty and the other completely the wrong size, we tried to call them but no one answered so we retuned them using their returns label.
This cost us £20 which they will not agree to refund us,
This their response
" we are unable to refund you the postage fees which you incurred. Please be aware there is more than one option to contact us if you were unable to reach us on the number we provide"
If your not meant to use them why put returns labels in the packages you ship?
Groupons response was "We're not the supplier"

I purchased a Groupon offer and spent the whole of the day trying to order the product. The merchants website (Healthpharm) was down or not working properly. Finally at 10:50 pm I managed to order the item. A week later I noticed a refund to my bank account with no notification from Groupon as to why. Rang Groupon no satisfactory explanation as to why the merchant would not honour the purchase. A complete waste of time.
Bought a slow cooker in January, paid for it by Paypal and i thought that was it, never received the item and forgot about it until l saw they had taken my money out of the bank, l got in touch with Groupon who told me l had to redeem my voucher with James Russell l didn't know how to do this so l was sent back and forth by e-mail giving them codes and different numbers until in the end l said no more l would take it further, got in touch with Paypal but my 45 days were up so l couldn't claim, that's why they had me doing all the e-mailing wasting my time until the 45 days was up. Going back to Groupon they told me no refund and no item, l can't believe they can do this, it's daylight robbery, l know it was probably my fault for not redeeming the voucher but l had never bought from them before and when l got my receipt from Paypal thought that was all l had to do. A nice way to get money isn't it? I intend to report them to Trading Standards they shouldn't be allowed to get away with the things they are doing,
Never had a problem with them. They have always delivered for me and on one occasion I notified Groupon that the business didn't want my business and they refunded my account straight away. Don't understand other people's problems. You need to have read the small print as with any agreement you sign up for. Just make sure you use the groupon voucher in time before the expiry date. Simples!
I purchased a voucher and with about 2 weeks till it expired I booked at the restaurant. I then got called away abroad with work and was unable to go so I cancelled my booking with the restaurant.
Upon my return I rang groupon, not for a refund just a credit on my groupon account and was met with a big NO.
I explained the situation to them but they had an inflexible tough luck approach and said they couldnt refund. More like WOULDN'T
So right now someone is dining out on MY money, its probably one of the rich owners of Groupon.
All it took was a simple refund to my Groupon account and I would have been happy and would have continued to spend with them and probably writing good reviews.
As it is I will NEVER use them again and writing bad reviews.
A very strange way to treat customers.
As per Groupons response below I have submitted my response to Groupon and we all await the reply.
I shall update you with the response from Groupon in due course.
*******FURTHER UPDATE******* See Groupon response below.
Many thanks for your email and I'm very sorry to hear you were unable to use your voucher for Lalon Restaurant on this occasion.
As my colleague stated, it is our refund policy that we are not able to process refunds for expired vouchers. However, due to the circumstances, on this occasion only I've just cancelled this order and have requested that £28.00 Groupon credit be put on your account.
The credit is available in 10 working days and is valid for 12 months. You can see your available credit in the "My Credits" drop down found by clicking "My Account" on the top right hand side of the screen once logged in. Make sure you tick "Use Your Credit" when checking out to use your Groupon credit.
For future reference, if you ever have an issue with a Groupon, we’ll be happy to help, but it’s always best if you let us know about the issue within the validity period.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know, and have a great weekend.
To me this is now fair enough but why did I have to have this "war" with them over basic customer service issues? But fair enough groupon, you got there in the end, its now 5 stars from me.....

We booked a holiday through Groupon for our anniversary only to find out at the check in that the company Groupon used to make payments came up as "Fraudulent" and we were refused to board the plane! Groupon then refused to compensate use for their error and even accept any responsibility - it took use almost a month to get our money back. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN!!
Brought a voucher off Group- on for the beauty and therapy shop in Nottingham
my appointment was cancelled 3 weeks in a row when I asked to speak to the manager I was told the manager Is not In I got a text message 5 minutes later from the manager saying they have no staff we sorry so I rang them back to sort it out and they did not answer I then contacted Group on for my money back to be told the voucher has been cashed in we will have to have a investigation I was told 4 days later you can have a full refund then i heard nothing from them again for a week of chasing them i was told please allow 10 days for a refund. I don't use group on a lot i'm glad i did not order a wedding package i'm making sure my mum does not either saved in the long run My advise don't bother
I have ordered many things from Groupon but they say the only test of a company is when something goes wrong...
I ordered a RC car and awaited its delivery.
When I chased Groupon I was told the item had been signed for.
Supposedly a neighbour received the parcel but when I've spoken to them no one knows anything about it.... the Royal mail signature is indecipherable and doesn't even state which neighbour took it.
I asked for another item and was told no essentially, not their problem
Amazon don't treat their customers like this - I guess that is why Groupon is destined to fail rather than prosper. CUSTOMER matters.

Personally I love Groupon and have nothing but good words to say about them, in the couple of instances where I've had a complaint they've dealt with it really quickly, giving me a refund or credited my account then and there over the phone.
I think like any online service, there are great deals to be had and deals you feel you've been done over by (bit like Ebay really) but generally I'm always happy with what I purchase and with Groupons conduct. From manicures, massages, rice cookers, cooking courses and perfume - I've luckily never had any problems with the process and will gladly continue to buy from them.
I purchased a Groupon voucher the merchant wouldn't accept the code ,
I complained to Groupon got an unsatisfactory response , sorry nothing we can do ,
not prepared to refund you at all ,
there is a name for taking money with out supplying the goods,
and then reminded them that further to my complaint may I point out that you are in breech of your terms and conditions

you are cancelling to: support(at)groupon.co.uk or writing to us - in each case, always provided of course that you have not yet redeemed the Voucher. Groupon UK,

I would not recomend this company to any one at all
