It's a poor deal for merchants, often it's a bit of a con for buyers, and the customer service is the worst I have encountered from any company, ever, BY A COUNTRY MILE.
In the event that something doesn't go to plan, they simply blame the 'partner company' for every issue, even when the fault is blatantly at their end. And woe betide the person who tries to make a complaint, because they will simply ignore your email like it never happened and hope the problem goes away.
Or rather, they just don't care. One little complaint in a sea of millions of users is but a drop in the ocean. In Groupon's case, an ocean of dollar bills, Euros and Sterling.
In short, they just don't care. They don't care about you, they don't care about merchants, they don't mind if you're upset, because they make money regardless. They don't care about your privacy settings, your email preferences, they'll send you emails anyway. About 10 per day. Regarding topics you aren't interested in.
Groupon is out of control and just plain wrong.
I implore you not to sign up. Although, chances are, it's probably too late for that, thanks to their passive-aggressive signup methods.
I ordered a pair of blue/red k Swiss trainers and received a pair of green/yellow trainers. I read their returns policy and tried to find the "click to return" button which was no where to be found. I called them (took over 10 minutes to be answered) and was informed they would e _ mail me a returns label, but could not supply the blue trainers. I asked if they were sold out and the lady said she did not know, but they could not send me a pair. I asked what their target was for answering calls and she they did not have one. I asked where the button was to return items as I could not find it, she stated sometimes it does not appear.
Maybe like me you've seen an attractive Groupon furniture offer and been tempted. In my case it was garden furniture. Maybe also like me you'll think paying by credit card gives you additional protection under the Consumer Credit Act. Maybe like me you'll imagine said furniture wouldn't go rusty within weeks and, even if it did, Groupon would sort it out. HOW WRONG YOU WOULD BE!
I had the usual horrific levels of service from the supplier of the furniture and Groupon so won't dwell on this. However, the contract between you and Groupon is to supply a voucher that you can exchange for the relevant goods with a third party supplier. THIS MEANS YOU HAVE NO ADDITIONAL PROTECTION BY PAYING WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD. I was "lucky". It only took me from November to February to get a refund but was upset to find I was on my own and could not rely on pressuring my credit card provider to sort it out.
My advice? Do not buy anything of real value via Groupon. Maybe use them for restaurant, hotel, food etc type offers. Me? Never ever again!
I ordered an electric fire from Groupon for £89.99, on opening the fire and turning it on i realised it was faulty.I downloaded and printed off Groupon's return label and posted off the fire the next day at our local Royal Mail depot. I asked if i needed a receipt or anything and was told i did not as it was paid for by Groupon. After a couple of weeks i noticed that i had not been refunded and contacted Groupon and was told ' I would only be refunded when they received the fire or i provided evidence that i had posted it' which the post office did not give me. I asked Groupon to trace the parcel as the post office said it would be very easy for them to do as it was their responsibility, they would not trace the parcel for me. Now i am suspicious as the parcel was very large and had my name and address on it and i have never had a parcel this size go missing before. I have spent £900 with Groupon over the last 6 months and as a person who has owned several businesses in the past feel this is an appalling way to treat a customer of their's, i will not spend another penny with them and would advise anyone not to deal with this company unless they can risk losing large sum's of money. I will now be seeking legal advice and informing trading standards.
Ordered a bed from Groupon, the item was from groupon goods also so they cant even blame the supplier!
The bed should have been delivered within 7 working days. the bed didn't arrive in this time and despite 3 phone calls and countless emails nobody could tell me when or if it would actually arrive. The bed turned up weeks after ordering and first thing in the morning to a property I wasn't even living at, the driver rudely called me demanding me to be there within 5 minutes or he's leave, this was at 7:30 a.m when they state deliveries are between 8-6pm. The bed was damaged but I have had to keep it in fear of how ridiculously long it would be for a replacement, I dread to think!
I contacted groupon regarding this and requesting a discount, all emails are now being ignored.
The only thing they are good at is fobbing you off!
Do yourself a favour and don't bother, I will be escalating my complaint further.
I have ordered several things from Groupon, and not had a problem....until recently when I did not receive an item that I had ordered. The customer service at Groupon is very bad (it usually takes >5mins for the phone to be answered, and promises made on the phone are not kept). This has put me off ordering anything else from Groupon.
I have used Groupon for years and not had any problems until recently, and the way it's been handled has only aggravated me further. I purchased a voucher in December whereby I paid £30 and received £60 off at Coast. As I was buying my bridesmaids dresses from Coast I asked all my bridesmaids to buy one so we could use it - the expiry date at the top clearly said January 2014. However, when I came to redeem the voucher in January, I was unable to input the code online with Coast and realised that in the very fine print, the voucher itself was only valid until December and I had to get a mobile code from Coast which could be used until January. When I got in touch with Groupon to appeal for an extension or get a refund due to the misleading information on the voucher, it was clear from their response they hadn't read or understood any of my message as all they did was say to me I had to get a mobile code - regardless of the fact this would then have been invalid anyway. When I complained to customer services about their reply and repeated my desire to get a refund I didn't even get a response back. I wrote a further complaint entitled "For the attention of management" I finally got a note back saying they'd given me £10 credit on my account as "a gesture of goodwill". So, no refund despite having bought six we couldn't use. However, when looking today, I saw they haven't even put this on my account! I've written AGAIN to complain but I'm sure I'll have closed by account by the time I get a reply as the service is just so appallingly shocking. I myself have come from a customer services background and I'd be so embarrassed if that was how my company dealt with their customers. For anyone considering using them, do so at your own peril!
I purchased a knife set through groupon, the money was taken from my account the next day and after a week I checked my parcel status which said ' out for delivery with courier' I then checked back later to find it had said ' not delivered- damaged item' I then straight away emailing groupon asking when I would receive a new one, to be told I wouldn't as the deal had ended. BEWARE- you may be buying something but if its damaged on delivery (through no fault of your own) then you will not receive it or a replacement just a refund. This is appalling as I ordered deal straight away, paid, to then be told you cannot receive another is horrendous when I didn't receive even the damaged item in the 1st place!
Purchased 3 Henry vacuum cleaners through Groupon totalling £291. Delivery from the company Ebeez was delayed so I contacted them , I later only received 1 vacuum cleaner. The supplier Ebeez then charged my credit card the full amount for one vacuum cleaner £201, even though I had already paid for 3 at the discounted price through Groupon. I later contacted groupon who said they would refund me however been a lay person I took there word for it and didn't check my statement. It was only recently whilst doing my personal tax returns I noticed they did not refund me the £291 . Obviously been very concerned I contacted groupon , I was told the vouchers had now expired so I would not be getting a refund . I asked where the £291 had gone and was told very rudely " it's in the Groupon Bank Account and I would not be getting it back " . I have always purchased vast amounts of online household products through various online companies with my property business and I can honestly say I have never come across a company that not only legally walks the tight rope but morally have a total disregard for its customer. PLEASE , PLEASE , PLEASE think twice about purchasing anything through Groupon, its closest you will get to a rogue trader online. It's not worth with the stress and hassle when things go wrong , and it will go wrong . Please also note : Double standards: Groupon Usa will refund your money upto 5 years after the voucher has expired however Groupon UK will not refund not. What a con!
Purchased a hotel deal with spa on groupon when I went to book the hotel there was absolutely no choice of dates had 2 book the only nights available which was the following week. Contacted the hotel directly to see if they would let me change the dates and thy wouldn't then contacted groupon customer services who suggested I give the voucher to a friend if I can't use it on that date. Absolute waste of money you could get a better hotel deal yourself at such short notice. Would not recommend groupon hotel deals if you want any say in when to use it.
We are hard working people but still can not afford to buy some expensive stuff, especially we badly needed a new mattress to replaced our old one. My husband working hard for 15 hrs a day just to put bread on the table. so when I saw advert for mattress sold by Groupon Goods Global GmbH , I quickly put my order..who wouldn't? with that price compare to the other high street mattress it could be a good bargain. After waiting for 5 days with continuous sms informing us that the mattress is on it way to our home. We were really looking forwad to it, thinking finally my husband could have a good sleep after long hours shifts. But when its arrived, we were so disappointed with the quality of mattress, its like a second hand mattress that no body one it, it has broken zips on the side too, so same day as the mattress arrive we quickly call the customer service to have it return, after waiting on the phone for 25 minutes finally someone answered it said no problem they will arranged a courier to pick it up it will take another 5 days, so we put the mattress on the corridor as we don't have any space to put it, another 5 days passed no body turn up to pick up the mattress than we call the customer service the said the same thing that someone will pick this up, with continuous call and emailing with the same answer another week passed. Could you all imagine how we felt? I can not go out with my kid and always rushing back home just in case the courier will come to pick the mattress. I even thinking to write to trading standard complaints and calling to cowboy traders at channel 5just to warn people about the appealing service done bygroupon Uk. I regret that I should have gone to read the review before ordering from groupon. Yes the mattress still standing at my corridor, and still wish the courier come and collected it and have our hard earn money returned so than maybe we can buy another mattress at the shop where they value their customers
Purshased a voucher for a facial with a company called GiGi in Islington London I was phoning and phoning...had some bad vibes about this so I typed the address in Google which came up with a differant number :/. The women was very nervous and said the company was no longer there!!!!!
This was my first purchase with Groupon and my last!!!!!!!!
I was realy looking forward to this facial as I've never had it done before
I have used groupon vouchers a number of times and never had a problem. I always got goods I ordered promptly and enjoyed cheaper food & events.
I recently bought a groupon for a beauty deal at a local salon and the salon itself turned out to be useless (impossible to contact, no appointments for months, rude etc). I was outraged by the level of service they offered and it was incredibly difficult to redeem my voucher.
I called groupon's customer service and although I had to wait in a que for a minute or two the people I spoke to on the phone were extremely friendly, informed and helpful.
I received an email immediately after the phone call offering to refund the amount in groupon credit. I politely asked if I could have a full cash refund instead and the next day I received this in full.
Very happy. Was expecting a long slog and wasted money but instead it was quick and simple and I got all my money back.
I bought a photo shoot for two to get some nice photos with my partner who resides abroad over Christmas 2013 period. After contacting the salon for a full month via phone + email and leaving my contact details on answerphone, my girlfriend had to move back abroad and the voucher became useless. I have now contacted Groupon three times (twice via email and once in writing by post) to request a refund on the deal. they have duly ignored my communications for two weeks and when the advisor came back to me, they said that they cannot locate my account. At this juncture, I notified Groupon that I wanted all of my existing deals refunded and my account with Groupon closed as I was completely dissatisfied with their customer service standards. Once they located my account, they claimed that as the deal was bought longer than 7 days ago, refund isn't available to me and the best they can do it contact the vendor on my behalf and arrange the appointment for me (completely ignoring all my previous explanations wrt why I couldn't use the deal anymore) OR offering me "store credit" (despite my intention to close my account with them). Overall, I found that it is possible to find most of Groupon's deals online by contacting vendors directly and the only benefit Groupon offers you is having everything aggregated in one place. However this is completely overshadowed by abysmal customer service and very relaxed policy as to who Groupon sells services for (clearly not always reputable vendors). Avoid unless they come up with something REALLY exceptional.
Ordered a suite for the conservatory on 28/12/2013 for £160 with delivery within 7days. Emailed them 8/01/14 and they replied that item had been dispatched. Emailed them again on15/01/14 and was informed that there was a problem with The delivery department and that the item had been dispatched (AGAIN???) to reach me no later than 20/01/14. Rang them on the evening of 20/01/14 asking for my money back only to be told "we cannot refund you money until you return your item" . I haven't received the goods , that's why I want my money back!! Was then told goods were dispatched on 16/01/14. I demanded to speak to a supervisor only to receive the same answers except that she said the goods had been dispatched on the 17/01/14(can't even get their lies right) and would receive it by the end of the week but if I wanted a refund to reject the delivery. Was told that their system can't make a refund until they receive the goods back ( the ones they have lost). Don't touch them with a barge pole
I've never called a company to complain before, however I've made an exception for Groupon - after ordering an item on Christmas Day with an expected delivery time of 7 working days and having not received it last week, I sent 3 emails to them with no reply, then after checking my account on their website I saw they had credited it with the funds from the item and no explanation why. Upon calling their unhelpful helpline and being in the queue for 20 minutes, and listening to a recorded message repeatedly telling me "we are experiencing high call volumes" (why am I not surprised) I got told they lost it in the post and there were no other items to send in their warehouse... Thank you very much for contacting me and telling me this information... And they won't even refund the money back to my bank account. I now have Groupon "credit" which I will never use and won't get my money back... Absolutely useless, waste of time and money - SHAM of a company. I advise everyone to never use this disgraceful company... This is also the message I left on their FB page in which I received a reply stating my complaint had been passed onto the UK team to look into.... Almost a week ago and still NOTHING! Worst customer service I have ever experienced... And I'm still £19 out of pocket and I've had to buy a replacement gift from elsewhere for double the price... I cannot stress this anymore, don't ever purchase from these people, they are thieving pigs
I ordered an ottoman bed and memory mattress from groupon website.they gave me a tracking number to track my order.I tracked the order with the tracking details it shows delivered in a safe place. When I got home I couldn't see my order or any card left by courier. I phoned them the next day to ask them the whereabouts of my item they said that they cant see any update from their system that I should give them 3 to 5 working to find out the whereabouts of the bed.I emailed them to refund my money back to me then I got a reply that they have an update for Me that the bed has not been dispatched ,I should give 5 working days to deliver the bed.the next day i received a text that the will deliver the bed on 15 Jan 2013 .up till now the bed has not been delivered.
My son bought me a supercar day out for Christmas , after New year tried to phone the car company to book a date as there is a time limit on the voucher , we called every day sometimes twice and three times a day for over a week the only reply was " please hang up " . My son got back in touch with Groupon they said they would try to get in touch with the company and would get back to him within 2weeks , phoned Groupon today and nobody had done anything about it even though the call had been logged, but said my son would receive an e-mail on Tuesday telling him whether or not he would get his money back. The voucher was bought end of Nov.2013 so when he asked for a refund they said seven days had lapsed so he was not automatically entitled to a refund, seems like we are getting the run around. Will be in touch with OFT if I don't get satisfaction .
Worst company ever. I paid for a coffee maker and groupon were happy enough to take my money however I waited a month to get it and it didn't appear so after countless emails back and forth I was told that they would not refund me the money even though they had not placed my order. I will never use this company ever again. BEWARE OF THEIR SNIDE TACTICS. Because they are a middle man they can get away with not giving you the money back !!!
