Ads are removed without any explanation. Site is so clumpsy, i prefer ebay

My ad was removed.

There is no explanation why my Ad was removed and why I was restricted.
its just an ad to sell my mobile.

When I enquired the reason for removal following was the reason they gave...

Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us to find out why your adverts are not showing.

I have looked into your account and can confirm your access to use the site has been restricted.

Our aim to keep Gumtree a safe, happy experience for all our users is paramount, and in order to do so it is sometimes necessary to enforce decisions that will protect those users during their gumtree experience.

We believe the adherence to posting rules and policy conditions is crucial and we will make restrictions to users when our policies are not followed. Continuous breach of policy is evident in this case and prohibits your use of the website.

We reserve the right to remove ads and restrict user access in accordance with our terms & conditions which can be viewed here;

The last refuge for the desperate

I decided to try Gumtree as the costs (as a Seller) for using e-Bay have escalated to a very high level.
Even applying fees on postage which is absurd.
Please bear in mind that Gumtree is owned by - you can guess - e-Bay.
I went into using Gumtree as a Seller with my eyes open as I had heard some pretty awful stories.
I guess with e-Bay you get a sense that there is some semblance of the buyer and seller protection.
Gumtree is a jungle which is not helped by their own systems which are inadequate.
Before trying to sell something on Gumtree I wanted to get a used iPhone.
Whilst there are genuine sellers I saw one locally which looked to be good to be true.
In an effort to smoke this guy out I asked a number of questions which a genuine seller would be prepared to answer.
Shortly after this I received an e-mail from Gumtree saying this guy was a suspected fraudster so don't take this further.
They also rightly deleted the ad.
I was reassured by this is I thought I'd try an sell something.
I know what I'm doing but the ad didn't post.
I ask why and am told that I had violated Gumtree rules and I was barred from using Gumtree and they wouldn't discuss the matter.
End of.
Phoning them costs an arm and a leg and they wouldn't respond to e-mails.
Therefore I wrote to them demanding, under the rules pertaining to the Data protection Act, what information they had on file as is my right.
After a while I get an e-mail from Gumtree admitting a mistake with a reluctant apology.
I have tried to sell a few things on Gumtree and the experience is painful despite being quite brutal in my listings about things.
The items I sell are priced to sell so I am no interested in offers.
I don't deliver, which I put in block capitals.
Even so I had one person ask if I'll make a 40 mile round trip for an item which cost £10.
It seems to me that the accepted rules of the Gumtree jungle if you're a buyer is that you ignore what people put down in terms of price and frankly people don't read what you write.
The most frustrating aspect is the number if complete time wasters you get which is demoralising, time consuming and massively frustrating.
For example.
"This is exactly what I want can I pick it up tomorrow"
I reply yes, supply my address and we agree a time.
Then no one shows up.
I e-mail and ask if there was a problem and the answer is "yeah I changed my mind".
This has happened on a few occasions and unlike e- Bay you can't leave Feedback.
Even though they are part of the same organisation I have reluctantly reverted back to e-Bay.
I also discovered Preloved.com who, although doesn't have the audience reach of Gumtree/e-Bay I have sold product through successfully without the awful Gumtree experience.

Gumtree want their roots pulling up.

Gumtree value a customer’s purse, but short - change you on every single aspect of customer satisfaction. However, I have given permission for Gumtree to reply to this post, because there are 2 sides to every story.

No reply..........! sums their services - up, far better than I could have worded.

Case closed.

Terrible company - Breach of security!!!

Gumtree are the worst company I have ever dealt with! Someone replied to my ad and despite Gumtree stating email addresses would never be show, it was there in black and white - a clear breach of security. They admitted it shouldn't have happened, and I asked for the ad to be removed, however they didn't refund any money, and the customer service staff were appalling and very unhelpful (at my cost of £0.35 per min - as apparently they don't make outgoing calls!).

The worst company ever!!!!

Been trying to post adds for months now and it gets removed for no reason.

Leanne Z: I have just taken a look into your account and can see that the adverts has been removed automatically by the system itself.
I’m afraid I can’t see the reason as to why, as this is done automatically by our systems.
Unfortunately, there is no way for me to look into this further for you on Live Chat.Leanne Z: If you would like for this to be reviewed it is best that you contact us on support@gumtree.com

You get this copy/paste reply from everyone. I have emailed support@gumtree.com many times and the replies:

"I have looked into this for you and it appears that a restriction has been placed on your account which is delaying your ads from going live as quickly as normal. However, your ads do not appear to breach any of our posting rules"

"Once again I would like to apologize again for all the inconvenience caused."

Melissa C: I am very sorry that this has happened You: So what have you done to make sure it won't happen tomorrow? Melissa C: This was removed incorrectly by our system, I have noted this and forwarded this on to our technical department Melissa C: who will resolve this issue from happening again You: I can bet you it willl happen again tomorrow!

Guess what? After months of being passed around like a football they have stopped emailing me and I can't post any adds!

So live chat = USELESS
Support = USELESS!!

Not for businesses. Time wasting and untrustworthy.

I haven't the time or inclination to tell the whole story as my whole experience with Gumtree has left me lacking in patience and with no tolerance for frustration left in me. In a nutshell, I paid £24.95 for a featured ad that didn't go live. It then took me a week of sending emails to get it live only to find that it wasn't featured! This is when the customer 'service' guy I'd been dealing with decided that I was too much trouble to reply to. After complaining, someone else then said they were dealing with my case and, as a goodwill gesture, were 'bumping' me to the top of the listings. Hang on, I said, I've PAID to be featured. I was then told that my ad had been featured while live, an out right lie and very blatant fob off, as I had tracked it religiously and know this to be untrue. This, a far as they are concerned, is the end of the matter.

If you are looking to sell unwanted stuff for free then maybe its ok (I don't know as I've never tried). If you are a business owner looking to use Gumtree for marketing then I can't stress enough, DO NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGE POLE.

Never had a problem

Sold lots of items, including a fridge, desks, vehicles and parts etc., never had a problem.
Didn't cost me a penny to sell anything and you can save a lot of money buying used.
Great alternative to greedBay.

Unacceptable

The staff are awful. Ad was taken down by mistake because apparently I had conflicted with there rules - I hadn't and was spoken to like S**T. No apology, need a complete revamp of there customer service process, one of the worst I have ever experienced. Appalled that the company are allowed to function like this. 0 stars.

If I could give no stars I would....

I cannot believe a company of this size can treat customer/users like they do. I have had contact with three separate so called members of the customer services/support team int he past week and each time it seemed within their remit to try and be as obstructive, rude, accusatory and threatening as possible. All I asked (and very politely) was help with posting an advert, which on my first attempt had been removed without telling me. Apparently it breached the rules, which I accept could of been the case, but I couldn't rectify without them telling me where I went wrong. The replies were shocking and I know have deactivated my account and will never use them again.

This is one of the replies after asking for advice after my first ever post was removed (I had already checked numerous times against their t's and c's)

Your account has been reviewed and clearly shows non-compliance of our posting rules.

Therefore, our original decision to restrict your access is upheld.

We reserve the right to remove ads and restrict user access in accordance with our terms and conditions as seen on the website (http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html).

This decision is final and not open to further consideration, any future correspondence will not be answered.

Thanks,

Your comment:

I have had my ad removed due to not meeting the posting rules. It is my first post so fully accept I may have done something wrong but after reading the rules I am not sure what part of it didn't meet the criteria. I didn't receive an email as stated explaining so I am a bit in the dark really. Can you tell me where i went wrong?

Kind regards,

What joke of a 'company'

recently posted 2 adverts to sell some old PC parts I had. Within 1 day both my ads were removed with no email telling me why. I logged on to find these ads disabled with a comment regarding breaking posting rules. I was very confused so looked at there link regardnig posting rules and could not see anything I had done to breach this. I emailed the 'support' and received a generic email back saying you have breached our posting rules and your ad has been removed? Still not telling me what I had done. I again question what exactly I had done and got an email back saying your account has been banned do no email us again!!. This company is pathetic and their customer service is non existant. I sold the items on a proper site (Friday-Ad.co.uk). Please do not use this company Ebay, Friday-Ad or alike would be advisable,

Stay away.

HORRID! First of all, shitloads of scammers. Second, gumtree gives 0 shits about it. Unless you are trying to sell something legitimately then they just remove your ad for "Braking Posting Rules" and they refuse to tell what rules did you break when contacted by e-mail, while on their shitty site they say that an e-mail should be sent automatically. Yeah so "Very bad – unacceptable experience, unreasonable and rude conduct" suits them perfectly.

gumtree can be better

I have found gumtree to be very useful over the years. I have sold and bought many items on gumtree including pets. However I do think it could be better. There is a stuff wanted section but no pets wanted section. When you post an ad in the pets for sale for a wanted pet it gets removed. Well I think in that case gumtree should put on a pets wanted section. That way people won't post in the pets for sale section. This will help a lot of people including gumtree themselves as they wouldn't have to go through the ads and remove them and have complaints from users. So please put a pets wanted section on? I would appreciate a reply from gumtree regarding this suggestion made in this review as it would show you read these reviews and take what we say on board.

Whatever you do stay away from gumtree

I recently posted an ad for a vivarium and a telescope. BOTH were removed immediately by a piece of software and when I queried this with gumtree I was told I had violated their terms several times (but I'd only posted two ads) and that any future correspondence would go unanswered. They couldn't even be bothered to tell me what I had done wrong. I've read a the policies twice and I KNOW I didn't violate any of them but still gumtre refuse to tell me what I'm supposed to have done. They wont respond by email and the phone number (a premium rate) doesnt connect. The email reply I got was rude and unprofessional and I suspect something very dodgy is going on here. I already regret givong this company any of my detsils. Whatever you do do not use this site, post on eBay or Amazon instead, do not give them any of your details. Gumtree are clearly not a reputable company. Zero stars!!

GUMTREE GREED WILL FINISH THEM OFF

Gumtree removed my add, no refund, a million pound a second phone number to call them up to complain, girl on phone was a teenager and said ide been a bad boy and duplicated my ads, so as punishment no refund, to relist would cost £15 just to get it back on and then £37 for 7 days of featured after ive already paid £37 to feature it. This is theft for a website that offers no customer services and really incomplete search function. They got massive be being free and open, now there big, they think too big to fail and the owners honestly think insane charges are terrible customer services is going to maintain them as a real game player....Gumtree will be a rise and fall story, mark my words!! Trust plot need to make is so you can select no stars for company's such as gumtree.

GUMTREE CONSPIRACY !

Apparently, Ebay bought Gumtree because it was their main competitor.

Not many people know this.

Ebay had a vested interest in destroying the competition, i.e. Gumtree so they bought it and are making Gumtree as 2nd rate as they can. This is so sad, when companies, usually ethical ones, become so nice and popular and they are then bought up, dumbed down, and destroyed by the 'big players.' Business is so ruthless, it will be a miracle if they even publish this.

Malicious removal of ads

They removed twenty of my ads. I protested to support, and they confirmed they were well within the rules and re-instated them. Then deleted them again two days later.

After posting a business ad in Services and paying extra for web links, they deleted the ads after two days, saying they had to be in the... Services section!!!

I am now having to raise a Paypal case to get the money back, as they are refusing to refund.

Incompetent. Disingenuous. Malicious.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS FRAUD COMPANY!

I recently listed my studio for rent in London and decided to pay for the extra $$$ to make my ads stand out.

Right after submitting, my ads was immediately removed quoting posting rules violation. I contacted their customer service line and having to wait for more than 20 minutes without any luck. I then tried emailing them, in which they replied 3 days later saying my account has been reviewed and was found to violate their posting rules. They included a link to their posting rules, which I have read many times in the last 3 days.

I then emailed back asking exactly what reasons my ads was removed. Again, the same lady emailed back with a link to their posting rules.
I am now angry asking for a full refund because I never managed to use their service at all. Un-surprisingly, no replies whatsoever until now.

I called my bank and got the money back, but ended up wasting 2 weeks!
