I HAVE TRIED TO SELL ON GUMTREE OVER THE YEARS NOTHING BUT SCAMS ON THERE NOTHING SELLS THEY REMOVE YOUR ADVERTS IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT SELLING ON GUMTREE OR ADVERTISING FORGET ABOUT IT GUMTREE REALLY IS GONE DOWN HILL AND A WAIST OF TIME AND ENERGY
a few years ago i posted a paid ad, it never appeared.
then no replies to my emails.
after that i am only posting free ads, but even after changing emails and phon numbers, names etc, the ads are getting removed randomly from time to time with an automated email it doesnt comply with posting rules even everything is 100% within their rules.
I am sure there are some cunnts working there who remove adverts just for a laugh
I posted three advertisements in very quick succession that cost me around 65 dollars each. When I checked back hours later, the site said they had been removed. By hovering over the ads, I was told that an email had been sent to let me know why. No email had been sent a day later.
I called them immediately and the tone was busy. I called them again later, and it was busy again. In fact, I called them the next day too, but all I got was a busy tone. So I emailed them. This was my original email (the bottom part) and their response (the top part):
"Your account has been reviewed and clearly shows non-compliance of our posting rules. Therefore, our original decision to restrict your access is upheld. We reserve the right to remove ads and restrict user access in accordance with our terms and conditions as seen on the website (http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html).
This decision is final and not open to further consideration, any future correspondence will not be answered.
I've posted the mentioned ads yesterday, and just found today that they're inactive as they have been removed for breaking the rules. I've not received any email about it either in my inbox or in the junk box, and calling you yesterday and today repeatedly has resulted in a lot of busy tones. The money has left my account and been paid to you, so all in all, I'm left feeling disappointed and hopeful that this can be resolved ASAP as these are urgent, time-sensitive ads.
Please could someone explain what I need to do to get all three the ads back up and running?
They have not refunded me the entire amount for the ads. Is what they're doing here even legal?
I have been using Gumtree quite happily for many years. Recently they changed their systems and clearly decided that people must pay for their mistakes.
Simply put I advertised a flat for rent. There was no clear way of inserting a postcode so I tried to insert the city. Then when it went live it had an old postcode that I had used previously and it was placed in a county not city. So, the map was wrong and the search was a whole county search not a city.
Their script reply was that in order to make their listings more accurate they were not using postcodes!!! Clearly they were as they used one. After much trouble they refused to refund me and I had to re-insert and PAY AGAIN for an advert.
This time I carefully found where to remove the postcode they were using, I put the right one and tried again.
IT WAS WRONG AGAIN AS IT WAS NOT IN A CITY.
They refused to refund me. This meant that for the first time in many many years I was forced to go to an agent as I was running out of time.
DO NOT USE GUMTREE - THEY ARE IDIOTS WITH NO CONCEPT OF SERVICE.
I am setting up a Twitter account so that I can hound them over this as it has cost me a lot of money and all they do is copy and paste from a script. Diabolical.
Nothing sells on gumtree. Its been days I posted lots of ads but im getting less views and even none. I personally think people don't trust gumtree. I suppose its ok but overall I think it is a waste of time. I will wait and see a couple of days and if nothing sells I won't use gumtree again. I think gumtree should make some changes because most things do not sell and I believe there is a reason for that. The site was quite popular when it had first come out but now people just don't trust gumtree or are probably not interested.
As a landlord, I used to use Gumtree to advertise my properties. However, like Loot in days of yore, the site is being run into the ground by the company, who quite obviously don't care at all about customer service, "landlords" who somehow (presumably computer generated postings) manage to create multiple postings so that if one runs down an endless list of recently added properties, the same properties come up, quite literary 100's of times. Try it - post your ad (for free initially) and in the few hours it takes to go on line, try to find your property - I think I gave up after 150 pages of 70 postings each page! Anyone who does reply is generally a poor quality tenant that I wouldn't want anyway. It doesn't matter - I now use Urban Sales and Lettings (costs more initially, but the same price until the property is let) and I generally let my properties within a week at most to lovely tenants.
We placed an advert on their website for our custom banner printing service, http://www.custom.uk.net/5-custom-banners for 30 days. The advert did not bring in any sales. Gumtree market themselves well for sellers but does very little to promote it's services to buyers. Ebay and amazon on the other hand market to both seller and buyers. I asked Gumtree for a partial refund and they declined. Avoid at all costs.
Gumtree are not the great website they are made out to be, i never really had an issue until a couple of weeks ago, when all of a sudden they started to delete my ads, baring in mind iv'e been using gumtree for some years now, so i know the procedure and my ads have been posted on a regular basis, but since a few weeks ago they keep deleting my ad, when i asked them why they say it's because i'm submitting my ad to the wrong category, but seen as iv'e been using gumtree for a few years i am pretty well certain it ain't in the wrong catergory, i'm a DJ so post under community then under the DJ's section, i tried another category only to get deleted again, then it came to light that they are really trying to drive me to pay to be featured or listed in a payed catergory, The thing is gumtree are a free ads site and so that's why i use it and i would assume that's why most others use it, but now it seems they want to delete ads that are placed in certain sections to drive you to another section, the worst thing is there are no other sections on the website for DJ's so where would i post, well i can tell you they want you to post in the services section which is a paid section obviously trying to gain extra cash, you would think they earn enough money especially since they have TV adverts, but it seems they are not making enough so would rather drive the free users to pay, well i think they are a money hungry money grabbing company and the fact is why would you pay for something you have been using for free for the last 2 or 3 years, just doesn't make no sense, i think someone should open up a rival site called GUMFREE or something and Challenge them for their business since they wanna delete our free ads, also i think we should enlighten others and keep posting our reviews, soon the word will get around tweet it facebook it google plus one it the lot then we shall see who wins the battle, without us using gumtree they would never of got anywhere in the first place, as it took us to start using it and promoting it for their website to get traffic, i think they are taking the this too far and should be brought down a peg or two so i will be posting bad reviews as much as i can just to let others know how much of a bad service there providing and to start using another service, there are definitely alot of other free ads sites such as Friday Ad Free Classifieds if you type free classified ads sites in google you will see many others, maybe it's there time to shine instead of gumtrees and maybe just maybe gumtree might reverse there stupid new policy and start to allow us to post our ads again instead of going after more money, who ever implemented the deleting ads campaign needs to have a rethink.
Even posting a free ad is a total waste of time.
I advertised a car for sale, and after a day U was sent an email telling me that it has been removed for "not being compliant with their rules". I read over their rules, read over my ad and guess what? There was absolutely nothing wrong with it! They could have at least had the decency to tell me where I went wrong, but no! and they don't reply to my messages either.
What a total waste of time! Thanks for nothing gumtree. Ur a load of bulls**t!
I have been using Gumtree for a long time and there free adverts are great but i red there blurb about spotlight advertising, they say you can get up to 100,000 views on the blurb, so i thought great worth a shot , its £50 for 7 days so quite expensive for most sellers like me but i thought even if i only get 1% of what they say then could be worth it as that would mean 1000 views in seven says, well its been live now for two days and Ive had 21 views, i have tried contacting Gumtree about the very outlandish clams they are making but surprise surprise no reply, all i can say it use Gumtree for free adds but trust me (not there crazy statement of 100,000) don't pay.
If you pay regularly they are okay but once you stop paying for featured ads or bump up daily your ads they all of a sudden start deleting your ads with no reason. I have been with them over the phone, email, chat to explain me the reason and they all say " your ads does not comply with our rules" After careful reading them 10 times, there is nothing wrong with our ads. Then if I repost it and pay it as featured there is no problem.
They are nice for small businesses and to reach some lovely customers but their support and system is bad. I personally think there are 10 people over there who are running the company and that is all.
Now they went too far by pushing us to get a banner and we denied and now we got some of our ads deleted again. Sadly they are cheap and work for small business but I am definitely on the look out for any other company site that can offer me the same.
On top they promised to call me like 3 times now and solve my issues but they never get back to me unless I am willing to pay for a banner or for a 2-3 featured ads which is just ridiculous.
I've been a member of gumtree for over 5 years, always obeying rules and their conduct.
Then all of a sudden I get all my ads removed for no reason, I then emailed them and all I got was 'your ad doesn't meet our rules'! What a load of rubbish!
I checked my ads but nothing was wrong, what the hell do they think their playing at, rumour has it apparently after a while if you have never paid for anything on their site, they do this to you.
I now still get my emails ignored just for trying to find out what the hell I haven't done wrong.
Not only is the site full of scammers, rip-off merchants and people who spend all day posting multiple ads but genuine ads are removed for no reason at all. As for customer service if they have anybody working there then they need a rocket up their a***holes as the service is pathetic.
Gumtree used to be a great site. Not any more! The site is full of scammers and dodgy sellers alike. I have been stung for the last time with this website. Others please steer clear! Not only do they take your money and flush your ad they don't care if people rip you off either. I basically look at it like this : if there is no where else that will let someone sell an item - Gumtree will, stolen, broken or non existant. Good bye Gumtree!
As a regular e bay user, I had no qualms in buying something off Gumtree. Not even when the seller took a whole week to dispatch the item, with excuses about "not being able to get out of work".
However, when the item still had not arrived a further 4 days later,I contacted the seller and politely requested the Royal Mail tracking number. Again more excuses about work, and also a load of garbage about it could take up to 15 days to arrive - for first class recorded delivery ? I don't think so.
When I politely question the delay, the seller started to get very defensive, and ironically accused me of trying to scam him. When he eventually got round to supplying the tracking number, he e mailed me to say that the item had been signed for, which proved I was trying to rip him off.
Unfortuantely this particular seller was not the sharpest tool in the box; when I looked at the Royal Mail site it was clear that the signature was clearly a different surname than mine, not even close. On phoning RM, they advised that the fkwit had addressed it to the wrong house number, about 5 minutes walk from where I actually live.
Although I did try and point this out to him, he was oblivious to the facts, and refused to cooperate over making a claim for loss against RM, which I required his name and address for.
On contacting Gumtree for their help in obtaining this info, they flatly refused on the grounds of not breaching the Data Protection Act. I therefore asked them to e mail the seller and ask him to cooperate by contacting me direct, but they even refused to do this.
About as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Dont use Gumtree, you have no protection, unlike ebay who will always seek to help.
Terrible customer service. Zero protection for customer (I got ripped off by a 'seller' to the tune of £150 and there's nothing I can do about it!). Advise to stay away from this website as there's nothing in place if the transaction goes wrong. Better off with eBay etc. My worst online buying experience - BAR NONE!
I think a lot of though has gone into the user-friendly interface with easy select menus etc. I have bought / sold items easily and I find it better to put a contact number if selling so you get an idea who is buying and if they seem keen and not a time waster!
Individual experience may vary and if you can't shift the stuff your selling it's probably not GT at fault, people may not actually want to buy what your selling or your advert may not be worded well.
The only thing I can fault is I found it recently very slow to up-load photos when selling an item and I kept being timed out in the process. Although this maybe because the pic resolution was too high? Still being timed out after around 2/3 min was a tad excessive I think?
Gumtree is a great idea but with the free an low price items peole just do not return you calls/emails and often the adverts are left up for days after something has gone.
I know, I know, what do i expect from free or cheap stuff....well I would hope people would remove adverts when things are sold, its not much to ask and I seem to invest a ot of time into very politely replying to adverts and getting no reply back
My experience of selling items is good, and yes, the very first thing to do after sellin g someting is i take the advert down !
i love the concept of gumtree but i find it hard to search for items as i live on the edge of two areas (essex but live in london borough). if the had search options similar to various other sites where you could search for X miles from your postcode i think this would not only improve the site but also the amount items sold on gumtree.
FIrst time I have advertised items online(twice in total) not only is it free and very easy to set-up and reaches many people but also the resulting sales for both items were easy and quick to complete. What is also a very good point-your personal details are not displayed openly and any responses are sent to you via Gumtree so it is your choice if you wish to respond-which also goes via Gumtree. Well done Gumtree-excellent service
The Gumtree experience is all down to yourself.
Always make sure your selling/buying from someone local, have a proper look 'in person' at what's on offer & you can't go wrong...10/10.
If it goes t i t s up,you've only yourself to blame.
Gumtree is promoted as a free service to enable you to sell your unwanted goods. To an extent it is true, you can sell some items for free, but others to get any real exposure you need to upgrade to some of their paid enhanced listings. It is a little sneaky when you think E-bay is upfront about fees before you list and they have a much larger following. I would say give Gumtree a go within the free listings, and if no cigar consider other options before paying. Gumtree still might be the right place for your unwanted items.
Gumtree is a eager company with a high ambition. It is quite vulnerable to hackers and could do with some sort of sorting system e.g.
Price - High to Low
Condition - New or Used
More options such as wanting to display where you live should be a basic 'button click'. Probably the thing that i found most irritating was that you cannot search for just 'Scotland' or 'England, you have to go through all the major places.
In conclusion i would recommend this company but be cautious in doing so.
you say £100 and people text they are too rude to ring, asking if you will take £40 instead and haggle you down , and if the reply simply says 'do you still have this?' it is from a scammer, people email you trying to get things posted again illegal, as it is meant to be a local ads free site. what about the tv i was selling i said the remote control came with it but the 'back was missing , although it still worked ok. 'some nob emailed asking if the tv worked ok even with the back missing, i was in stitches laughing imagining all the components and circuit boards and wires dangling out the back of it , this is what you are up against. people ask for your money and promise to post by what i have read a lot of nutters actually have sent money and waited .and waited. lol .the site and the police say only trade face to face, count the money make sure it is real as people use fake money on gumtree and sell stolen goods. it is ok for freebies .i have got rid of beds and washing machines that saved me paying the council a fee to remove....always some foreign trampy refugees happy enough to come for your battered beaten mattress

I have tried to sell a wedding dress, shower pump, fridge, car etc on gumtree and never sold one of them. Not even a single enquiry apart from someone who wants to buy it for their cousin in Nigeria!!!! all Scammers. Not like it used to be. There MUST be a way to police this or will it be against the scammers human rights!!!!

Every single day I report at least 20 posts on my local Cambridge Gumtree site. Every city site is rife with scammers placing ads for accommodation, non existing pets and cars!
Sometimes I report an ad (usually one quite obviously fraudulant) and it takes HOURS for it to be taken down.
Gumtree needs a system making it impossible for people using an IP address not located in the UK to place ads - most of these scammers are in Nigeria!

This is a good site for selling second hand good and also purchasing. It is possible to list ads for items wanted aswell.
You can post free ads but if you want to promote your ad it will cost. You can upload 3 free pics as well for your ad.
As with things like this always sell face to face and be careful if you are unsure.
I would recommend as you can find some interesting items on here.
There are jobs pages aswell.
UPDATE: I still enjoy looking at gumtree but be very very careful if you are selling, anyone who asks you to give out your paypal email address because they will give you an extra £30-£50 for postage is scamming you and should be reported immediately.
