recently posted 2 adverts to sell some old PC parts I had. Within 1 day both my ads were removed with no email telling me why. I logged on to find these ads disabled with a comment regarding breaking posting rules. I was very confused so looked at there link regardnig posting rules and could not see anything I had done to breach this. I emailed the 'support' and received a generic email back saying you have breached our posting rules and your ad has been removed? Still not telling me what I had done. I again question what exactly I had done and got an email back saying your account has been banned do no email us again!!. This company is pathetic and their customer service is non existant. I sold the items on a proper site (Friday-Ad.co.uk). Please do not use this company Ebay, Friday-Ad or alike would be advisable,
HORRID! First of all, shitloads of scammers. Second, gumtree gives 0 shits about it. Unless you are trying to sell something legitimately then they just remove your ad for "Braking Posting Rules" and they refuse to tell what rules did you break when contacted by e-mail, while on their shitty site they say that an e-mail should be sent automatically. Yeah so "Very bad – unacceptable experience, unreasonable and rude conduct" suits them perfectly.
I have found gumtree to be very useful over the years. I have sold and bought many items on gumtree including pets. However I do think it could be better. There is a stuff wanted section but no pets wanted section. When you post an ad in the pets for sale for a wanted pet it gets removed. Well I think in that case gumtree should put on a pets wanted section. That way people won't post in the pets for sale section. This will help a lot of people including gumtree themselves as they wouldn't have to go through the ads and remove them and have complaints from users. So please put a pets wanted section on? I would appreciate a reply from gumtree regarding this suggestion made in this review as it would show you read these reviews and take what we say on board.
I recently posted an ad for a vivarium and a telescope. BOTH were removed immediately by a piece of software and when I queried this with gumtree I was told I had violated their terms several times (but I'd only posted two ads) and that any future correspondence would go unanswered. They couldn't even be bothered to tell me what I had done wrong. I've read a the policies twice and I KNOW I didn't violate any of them but still gumtre refuse to tell me what I'm supposed to have done. They wont respond by email and the phone number (a premium rate) doesnt connect. The email reply I got was rude and unprofessional and I suspect something very dodgy is going on here. I already regret givong this company any of my detsils. Whatever you do do not use this site, post on eBay or Amazon instead, do not give them any of your details. Gumtree are clearly not a reputable company. Zero stars!!
Gumtree removed my add, no refund, a million pound a second phone number to call them up to complain, girl on phone was a teenager and said ide been a bad boy and duplicated my ads, so as punishment no refund, to relist would cost £15 just to get it back on and then £37 for 7 days of featured after ive already paid £37 to feature it. This is theft for a website that offers no customer services and really incomplete search function. They got massive be being free and open, now there big, they think too big to fail and the owners honestly think insane charges are terrible customer services is going to maintain them as a real game player....Gumtree will be a rise and fall story, mark my words!! Trust plot need to make is so you can select no stars for company's such as gumtree.
Apparently, Ebay bought Gumtree because it was their main competitor.
Not many people know this.
Ebay had a vested interest in destroying the competition, i.e. Gumtree so they bought it and are making Gumtree as 2nd rate as they can. This is so sad, when companies, usually ethical ones, become so nice and popular and they are then bought up, dumbed down, and destroyed by the 'big players.' Business is so ruthless, it will be a miracle if they even publish this.
I recently listed my studio for rent in London and decided to pay for the extra $$$ to make my ads stand out.
Right after submitting, my ads was immediately removed quoting posting rules violation. I contacted their customer service line and having to wait for more than 20 minutes without any luck. I then tried emailing them, in which they replied 3 days later saying my account has been reviewed and was found to violate their posting rules. They included a link to their posting rules, which I have read many times in the last 3 days.
I then emailed back asking exactly what reasons my ads was removed. Again, the same lady emailed back with a link to their posting rules. I am now angry asking for a full refund because I never managed to use their service at all. Un-surprisingly, no replies whatsoever until now.
I called my bank and got the money back, but ended up wasting 2 weeks!
Gumtree really are the pits. I posted an ad yesterday evening. The ad goes online. This morning I edited the ad (a simple price change) only to find that the ad was immediately taken down for "processing". They were processing the ad ALL DAY!! This means I missed out on a whole day's worth of calls. This evening I see the ad is NO LONGER AVAILABLE!! What the hell? Gumtree are supposed to take a MAXIMUM of 4 hours to process any changes - and they just lost the ad!!
I had paid good money to put the ad up and link it to my website. I was about to pay a further £60 or so to feature the ad for three days, but given their abysmal performance there is no way I can do this.
This is not the first time stuff like this has happened. In December I posted another ad and had real trouble getting it online. That time I paid a lot more money to feature an ad that simply never appeared on their site. I tried repeatedly to contact Gumtree but they did not respond to my emails and the the people I engaged on their chat app were more or less completely useless - that is when chat is not shown as busy (which is hardly ever). I asked for a refund in December but, of course, they simply ignored my request.
I also tried to phone Gumtree on their premium helpline number (35p a minute). A recorded message sternly informs you that you must be over 18 years old etc, only to cut you off once the message has finished. This happened repeatedly and I never got beyond the recorded message.
In December I had vowed never to use your site again but thought I ought to give it one more try. Gumtree charge quite a lot more than other sites and they provide incredibly poor exposure and service. In addition, I have spent a huge amount of my time trying to place and monitor these ads on their site - definitely a waste of my time (especially as I never got to see either of my ads online).
Please spread the word. Gumtree is COMPLETELY USELESS!!
I have just had my first (and last) experience trying to sell anything on Gumtree. I have never used the site before to sell anything. I read all the posting rules before hand. I posted a few ads that were instanly deleted, saying i had broken the posting rules and an email had been sent to me explaining what i had done wrong - of course i didnt receive ANY emails at all from them with an explanation. I tried again postnig the same ads, this time copying other users ads that had been posted successfully, but no - instant deletion.
I contacted them via chat, only for them to tell me that my account has been restricted, but they didnt know why and advised i contact them via email, so i did. I received a reply by email, again telling me that my account is restricted - because of 'continuous breach of policy' - this made me very confused, so i contacted them again demanding an explaination. They replied, but again gave no explanation what so ever as to what these continous breaches were, they were just extremely rude and told me that any further emails from me will be ignored... They just dont care at all about their customers. Horrible horrible company... STAY THE HECK AWAY!!!!
Their customer service sucks. Try searching for how to complain on their website and see how far you get!. Their stupid autocheck routine deleted my ad for no valid reason. They admitted their mistake and reposted only for the stupid autobot to delete it again. And now they are ignoring my emails. They also promised to escalate my complaint to a manager and over four weeks on I have had no contact. They are arrogant, pig headed and have no genuine interest in resolving issues. IRRESPECTIVE OF WHETHER YOU ARE A BUYER OR SELLER, MY ADVICE IS TO TREAT THEM AS HIGH RISK AND USE CAUTION, ESPECIALLY WHERE MONEY IS CONCERNED! DON'T GIVE THEM ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO LOSE!
In the meantime I am on the lookout for viable alternatives. Let's share and see if we can give someone else a chance. Someone mentioned www.buysellanything.co.uk/ so I will give them a try
I HAVE TRIED TO SELL ON GUMTREE OVER THE YEARS NOTHING BUT SCAMS ON THERE NOTHING SELLS THEY REMOVE YOUR ADVERTS IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT SELLING ON GUMTREE OR ADVERTISING FORGET ABOUT IT GUMTREE REALLY IS GONE DOWN HILL AND A WAIST OF TIME AND ENERGY
a few years ago i posted a paid ad, it never appeared. then no replies to my emails. after that i am only posting free ads, but even after changing emails and phon numbers, names etc, the ads are getting removed randomly from time to time with an automated email it doesnt comply with posting rules even everything is 100% within their rules. I am sure there are some cunnts working there who remove adverts just for a laugh
I posted three advertisements in very quick succession that cost me around 65 dollars each. When I checked back hours later, the site said they had been removed. By hovering over the ads, I was told that an email had been sent to let me know why. No email had been sent a day later.
I called them immediately and the tone was busy. I called them again later, and it was busy again. In fact, I called them the next day too, but all I got was a busy tone. So I emailed them. This was my original email (the bottom part) and their response (the top part):
"Your account has been reviewed and clearly shows non-compliance of our posting rules. Therefore, our original decision to restrict your access is upheld. We reserve the right to remove ads and restrict user access in accordance with our terms and conditions as seen on the website (http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html).
This decision is final and not open to further consideration, any future correspondence will not be answered.
Thanks, Susan Gumtree.com
I've posted the mentioned ads yesterday, and just found today that they're inactive as they have been removed for breaking the rules. I've not received any email about it either in my inbox or in the junk box, and calling you yesterday and today repeatedly has resulted in a lot of busy tones. The money has left my account and been paid to you, so all in all, I'm left feeling disappointed and hopeful that this can be resolved ASAP as these are urgent, time-sensitive ads.
Please could someone explain what I need to do to get all three the ads back up and running?
They have not refunded me the entire amount for the ads. Is what they're doing here even legal?
I have been using Gumtree quite happily for many years. Recently they changed their systems and clearly decided that people must pay for their mistakes.
Simply put I advertised a flat for rent. There was no clear way of inserting a postcode so I tried to insert the city. Then when it went live it had an old postcode that I had used previously and it was placed in a county not city. So, the map was wrong and the search was a whole county search not a city.
Their script reply was that in order to make their listings more accurate they were not using postcodes!!! Clearly they were as they used one. After much trouble they refused to refund me and I had to re-insert and PAY AGAIN for an advert.
This time I carefully found where to remove the postcode they were using, I put the right one and tried again.
IT WAS WRONG AGAIN AS IT WAS NOT IN A CITY.
They refused to refund me. This meant that for the first time in many many years I was forced to go to an agent as I was running out of time.
DO NOT USE GUMTREE - THEY ARE IDIOTS WITH NO CONCEPT OF SERVICE.
I am setting up a Twitter account so that I can hound them over this as it has cost me a lot of money and all they do is copy and paste from a script. Diabolical.
Nothing sells on gumtree. Its been days I posted lots of ads but im getting less views and even none. I personally think people don't trust gumtree. I suppose its ok but overall I think it is a waste of time. I will wait and see a couple of days and if nothing sells I won't use gumtree again. I think gumtree should make some changes because most things do not sell and I believe there is a reason for that. The site was quite popular when it had first come out but now people just don't trust gumtree or are probably not interested.
As a landlord, I used to use Gumtree to advertise my properties. However, like Loot in days of yore, the site is being run into the ground by the company, who quite obviously don't care at all about customer service, "landlords" who somehow (presumably computer generated postings) manage to create multiple postings so that if one runs down an endless list of recently added properties, the same properties come up, quite literary 100's of times. Try it - post your ad (for free initially) and in the few hours it takes to go on line, try to find your property - I think I gave up after 150 pages of 70 postings each page! Anyone who does reply is generally a poor quality tenant that I wouldn't want anyway. It doesn't matter - I now use Urban Sales and Lettings (costs more initially, but the same price until the property is let) and I generally let my properties within a week at most to lovely tenants.
