As with many of the other cases on this forum you wont find out until renewal!!!! ,BE AWARE , the rep signs you up with no mention of extended renewal period of 12 months and a roll over of 2 years if you dont give 12 months notice- I have been using PDQ machines for 15 years and never come across this extended notice period, it is ridiculous ,Handepay will say take it up with Merchant rentals ,who tell you to take it up with Handepay. The rep misled us in the signing up process and after 3 years they are un willing to consider even a 6 month notice period, they are unreputable and will reply its in the terms and conditions - what a shame as a loyal customer I feel they have mislead me and are not interested --
The urgency of our handset had been lost on the back up teams who actually delivered the product . It did arrive in the nick of time but not until I had spent considerable time chasing it up.
I didn't find the manual user friendly and had to ring to get an explanation . I didn't always feel that the staff had a thorough understanding of the product
We were offered a second handset which still hasn't arrived and is now too late
Spoke to a lovely lady who assured me that I would have a mobile terminal by the weekend, (I needed it for the Christmas markets), however by the middle of the following week , still no terminal, after several phonecalls a second terminal was promised via next day delivery, this did not arrive until Saturday, (Two days later), The first teminal which was allegedly sent out has never materialised, and to top all off I have not had any sucess with the terminal that has been sent as it does not seem to be able to connect to any mobile network long enough to put through a transaction, All in all a very dissapointing outcome, Lets just see if my £50 voucher appears, which I am meant to recieve if I use my terminal within 14 days of reciept! (I have used it once after it arrived at home to check it was working so have fullfilled their criteria!)alll together a very dissapointing outcome after a very promising start
The sales person was very eager to meet and sell me a contract which at the time was very attractive. What they failed to make clear was that "Merchant Rentals" AKA Ripoff Merchants require 12 months notice of termination on a 36 month contract, otherwise it rolls over for a further 2 years. I was was stung like this £430.00 settlement fee which is hard when you're not even trading anymore. STAY AWAY, you'd be far better off paying a slightly higher transaction fee on the likes of paypal and izettle.
Handepay were ok; the sales person was good and helpful at the time of selling. Problem arose when the handset arrived and we couldn't install it. It took three weeks for the sales person to call back in and then it turned out we had been sent a faulty terminal so we had to wait another two weeks before delivery and installation was complete - all the time being charged for terminal rental when we couldn't use it. When I asked about a refund of one month's rental, I was told it would be looked into - haven't heard anything since!!!
Good prices on transactions but customer service was way below what is expected. Also you must check all contracts before signing. Do not trust the person who sells you the contract. I have found the facts to be quite different to what I have been told. Having said all this I am still with Handypay as they do have very competitive prices and I couldn't bear the hassle of switching. One is example is I was recently send a new card machine which I did not want or ask for but was told my original machine was becoming obsolete so I had no choice. The new machine is not good. It is bigger and cumbersome and has a seperate "access box" which needs an additional plug and it does not fit in the space I had the other one and I have to run an extension lead for the other plug - it is all very messy. When I asked to change it for a machine without an access box I was told I would have to pay a "swop" fee of £110.00. I asked someone to look into this further for me about two weeks ago but I have not yet had a reply.
*UPDATE* I have just had a call from Handypay. They have now agreed to swop my machine for a different one and waive the fee. Much appreciated many thanks.
Once I enquired about Handepay I had a speedy response and received my machine within a couple of weeks. The installation was very straight forward and although others have said they have problems with GPRS machines mine has never faltered.
I HAVE WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM ABOUT RECOMMENDING HANDEPAY TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS IN BUSINESS IN FACT A NUMBER OF THEM HAVE ALREADY TAKEN THE OFFER UP WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. I HAVE RECEIVED THE SAME SERVICE BUT AT HALF THE COST
Handepay’s service has been excellent right from the beginning. They explained in full the contract length to me and gave me a number of options. Taking card payments has improved my business and increased my profits – I would recommend them to any other businesses looking to take card payments.
Handepay was recommended to me by a friend and I thought it was too easy to set up to be true. But, from the moment I spoke to Colin it was clear that I would get all the help I needed and it would be as painless as possible. Colin has stayed in touch all the way and has been amazing. I can now expand my business with peace of mind. I would recommend Handepay to anyone, and i will be doing so.
I'd recommend Handepay it's saving me money and it's great to have someone to speak to personally not just someone on the end of a phone . Quick and efficient service up and running within a week great service .
Transaction day + 3 days to arrive at bank account? Locked in to contract 'till 2015 but money will take four days to arrive at the bank, unless we banked with NatWest. Why?
The general service is excellent however I was astonished to discover that after signing for three years that when the contract was over it was a rolling on-going contract that I had to give 12 months notice or face a premium. I believe it has been reduced to 3 months but I still think that if a contract has run its full length then the business should be immediately free to leave. I also feel that the contract length is too long it should be 12 months long in my opinion. I also believe the terminal rental to be excessive as I have already paid £750 and so after a further 3 years this will be nearer to £2000. There are ofcourse fees to be paid each transaction on top of these so overal it is quite expensive. I dont know how this compares to others.
Overall service received from Handepay has been good, when having to call in respect of support for machine, assistance has been quick and issues resolved. Good card rates via streamline. would recommend handepay and have already done so. John from Blackpool
Having loads of difficulty with merchant rentals regarding them renewing the contract 24 months into a 36 month term. As most people have already stated, they're a nightmare company to deal with, and are becoming increasingly aggressive. I wouldn't recommend doing any business with handepay or merchant rentals.
Having just been served with papers from Handepay/ Merchant Rentals (let's be under no illusion that these are 2 completely separate operators!) for an outstanding balance, I will be fighting this to the end.
In April 2011, I took out a 3 year contract after a meeting with a Handepay representative. After querying a term in the contract, I was advised to send in a termination letter with the contract which I duly did, On misguided advice by said representative, the letter was addressed to Handepay.
When my business folded in April 2013, I wrote to Merchant Rentals to request a final sum so I could settle the account. I was expecting to receive an invoice for 11 months rental, so was shocked to receive a bill for over £800.
Upon speaking with Merchant Rentals, they claim that because the letter was addressed to Handepay, I am still liable for the rollover contract period of an additional 24 months.
This company does business through lies and deception and I will be contacting the OFT and the FCA with regard to their underhand tactics.
I took a year contract out with them,as my lease was only for 1 year. I was told by the
rep I would have to pay a higher premium for a years contract. I paid £53.94 a month.
I phoned to return the handset and have been told I have to pay for another year at the same premium rate. If I had taken it out for 2 years I would have paid less.!!!
I am a widow and have no income.
Handepay's credit card terminal has transformed the cashflow situation in our business. Gone are the days of waiting for customer cheques to clear (and sometimes bounce)! The service from them has been great and when we've had a query they've always dealt with it quickly and efficiently on their helpline. Would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone looking for a credit card solution.
Had no complaints with Handepay/merchant rentals (supposedly 2 different companies? only when it suits them!) initially. Needed card payments facilities quickly and they sent a rep round who filled out all the paperwork and explained it was a 3 year contract - no probs there as understood that's what I was taking on. so, 3 and a half years into the contract had just had my baby and hadn't been using the card terminal for something like 10 months so decided that as we'd done the 3 years I'd get rid as it was a lot of money (£32 p.mth) when I didn't have any income anymore. Merchant rentals then tell me I had to have given 12 months notice, exactly 12 months prior to the 36 months expiring otherwise you automatically roll over into a further 2 year contract - following it? no I didn't either! I was expecting something like a 3 month notice period but not a 2 YEAR one!!! Apparently everything is in the contract (if you know where to find it!) and ever after trading standards got involved - grey areas around it being a CCA agreement and standard rental periods normally being restricted to 18 months with 3 months notice - they wouldn't budge. Upshot? either pay £550 to get out of the contract or carrying on with monthly payments - You can bet I made sure I'd given them notice and had confirmation of said then paid monthly as I simply didn't have that kind of money so £32 a month out of my very limited income for a year and a half - wonder if the company owners ever have sleepless nights wondering whether they can meet their bills this month - nope thought not! As an aside if you're after really great card facilities without studid-silly tie-in contracts check out elevon who I use now I'm back to work!
The handepay salesman promised me very cheap rate before i sign the contract, but after that they raise or creat different. Charge on the monthly invoice. After 3 year, I was not allow to terminate your contract, as they said it will roll over for another 2 yes contract. Have a hell of nightmare with them, it was so easy to enter contract, so bloody hard to terminate contract, have to involve with handepay, streamline and merchant rental company. And merchant rental company demand for very expensive termination fee. It's a company can not be trust at all.
I took out a 3 year contract with them for a card machine, their salesman never said anything about the unusual and very long cancellation notice required. which if you dont do it they roll you over for 2 more years. I've fallen foul of this 12 months notice period and they just seem to laugh at you as they have you hooked and there is nothing you can do about it, i wouldnt use them again and i warn all my business friends about them and their sister company merchant rentals in the hope that no one else falls foul of them.
