Saved me a fortune!
I was looking to purchase a BMW privately for £10,000 that had 65,000 miles on the clock, one owner from new, full service history etc etc. HPI check showed that it had actually covered more like 165,000 miles and this lead me to finding that the whole service history was fictitious and the car needed to be given a very wide berth! £20 well spent and a lesson learned!

Disappointing
I weighed up the two options available - £19.99 and £24.99.
I decided on the £24.99 as I was interested in the valuation of the vehicle that I am planning to buy. I paid the £24.99 and received the report back, in the valuation area it stated 'No guide valuation is available for this vehicle'.
So in summary i have paid an extra £5 for nothing. I feel that if HPI is unable to provide the customer with a valuation (of which they have paid for) - then they should be refunded the £5. I could have got the same information from HPI for £19.99 as i did for £24.99 - therefore poor value.

N Ireland customers disadvantaged. :-(
Hi, recently used the HPi service on a X5 that I have since bought. I noted when completing the check online that because the vehicle is registered in N Ireland the HPi Check Guarantee is automatically null and void! If you are not able to offer the guarantee for whatever reasons then there should be a reduced price option available.

would have been 5 stars if it wasnt as expensive
I thought the service was good, i liked the fact i could update it and receive an updated report for free. I thought the service was quick and easy and i received the report immediatley so i could not fault the service. It would have been perfect if the minimum report was not £20.00 as all i really wanted to check was outstanding finance on my own vehicle and i thought that £20.00 for this was pretty expensive. But other than the price i was quite pleased with the service.

HPI saved me from making a £4,000 mistake!
My mum's car packed up, bless her, so I went shopping for a replacement with her. We found a great little number with all the toys, and my mum took it for a spin. Prior to doing so I asked the dealer "is the vehicle HPI clear?", and the response was a less than convincing "errm, I think so". I had planned to take out a HPI check in any case, so in the time it took mum to adjust her seat I had completed the check online, in 4 easy steps, and received the report instantly: CAT D.
£19 well spent, for total peace of mind!

great but it doesn't come cheap
i done a HPI check on my car just incase there was any issues with the car and to put my mind at ease before folking out £30,000. Yes it does the job Yes the car was CLEAR with nothing to report but at a cost of £20 for nothing to report i think is expensive.
could at least give you 50% back if nothing to report on car.

Misleading Guarantee - WATCH OUT!
Used HPI to purchase a car recently. and ran a full check assuming I was covered under the "HPI Guarantee". After a mileage check came back with no record of mileage changes, it turns out after I had purchased the car that it had been clocked. Contacted HPI to follow up with the guarantee process only to be told that it does not cover mileage.
Typical big company hiding behind the small print. Big guys win - little guys lose.
BE CAREFUL WITH HPICHECK !!!!!! Use another more reputable company.

5 Star service for me, from HPI
Decided to get an HPI check on a car I am thinking about buying. No brainier really, £24 against a 5 grand investment.
Like an idiot I put the registration in wrong and guess what there was no such car! an email to HPI customer services and a solution was agreed, a check for the correct registration was obtained and I am one very happy bunny!
Hope the car turns our to be as much of a pleasure!

Very poor service for £20, a total waste of my money
Very poor service told me nothing I did not already have for £20, paid £3 to a text service and had a 100% success rate. Would not use or recommend this service again.

Charged for nothing
They couldn't find any record of the number plate I entered but where very happy to charge me in full nonetheless. Not impressed.

When the vehicle registration number is entered into our site, we display the make, model, year of manufacture and engine size in a box to the left hand size before you select which report you wish to purchase. This box is then visible when you enter your personal and payment details to receive the report. If no vehicle details are showing, we display the following message in the box ‘No descriptive data is held by DVLA for registration number XXXXX’. I got same informatin for 19.99 as from different website for 4.98., your portal really did not help. Just lost m money.

Pretty good; however, the warnings need to be up front on a mobile device
Overall pretty good as HPI (a trusted company - the market leader) quickly gave me the interactive results I sought via my mobile phone. I had not intended to purchase a care that day and I was a long way from home. However, having seen, driven negotiated and then purchased the car - in cash (to avoid card charges) from a garage - I subsequently saw the warning in the email on my desk top computer about a £3k limit for cash... Too late, I was home by that point, with the car!

Very easy way to get peace of mind
The best bargains are often with private adverts and being able to get peace of mind before you start travelling around is a big bonus. You can be happy that your are looking at a genuine bargain, especially if you view at the address shown on the V5.
Having an HPI check just takes away a lot of the pressure and uncertainty.

This check covered absolutely everything
There were quite a few similar services on offer when I Googled, but this one was the most comprehensive. I managed to save a little on the cost by searching for an HPI promo discount code too. I recommend this to anyone buying a used car for peace of mind.

HPI - Excellent site and reliable data
Used HPI a few times now before purchasing a car and have always considered them to be the market leaders and trust their data therefore I would never consider purchasing a car without a check. Looking at the other alternatives and although I have not tried them yet I consider the charge for HPI and the data you get is competetive and good value when you balance that against the risk of the money you are about to pay for a car. Do not buy a car without a check either by yourself or get the dealer to provide.
