For some unaccountable reason Maplins refuse to trade with Europe. Even though I offered them a Sterling debit card payment which gave them the money before I received the goods they refused to send me a small item to France. Have they never heard of export trade?
Used to visit my local store in Stoke regularly and was pleased with the friendly helpful service.
New staff now, many very young. Now I seem to spend an eternity waiting to be served while the staff stand around chatting or trying to avoid eye contact!
Recently went-in to the shop to buy an HDMI cable, They had some for forty quid which I thought was an insane price. I asked if they had any cheaper ones, which they did. They had one for ten quid, which I also thought was steep, but they said the picture quality from that was not very good!!! I tried to point-out that the signal being carried in an HDMI cable is digital and that there could be no qualitative difference in picture quality between one cable and another, but they insisted I was wrong!!
As I admit I am quick to point out faults it is only fair to take the time to praise that which is good and that which excels. In my opinion Maplins excels.
My instore experience of Maplins is that they are knowleadgeable and helpful, in fact EXTREMELY helpful. So I felt confident using their website to order Christmas presents. The website is unusually easy to use and they have a no-nonsense way of setting out key information without any hype - (what a refreshing change to the normal loads-hype-no-useful-data approach from others)
Really excellent company all round. The staff have clearly received good training and there is a clear enthusiasm for their subject (electrical goods) which makes shopping with them a pleasure and a relief.
