A member of staff took a call asking him to confirm various 'account' details and if he could authorise payment. He said he couldn't but could forward the invoice onto Head Office.
I received an invoice today for £299+vat. I called to say this was a mistake, we hadn't set an account up, we already were listed on Google Places and therefore had no need for an account and finally that the person taking the call was not authorised to enter into any contracts on behalf of the business.
Long story short, they provided a partial copy of the phone conversation, very slick sales guy and this has been taken as a "Legally Binding Verbal Contract" even though we have been given absolutely no details of the service we have been signed up for.
I contacted Manchester Trading Standards and have been advised not to pay but they can't take any further action without more people complaining. Please contact them on 0161 234 1589 and stop this from happening to other people/businesses.
I received a phone call from Laura on 02/09/13 saying that she was acting on behalf of Google to renew our listing that runs out today and that this had been authorised by my manager. She then asked to double check phone numbers and email addresses and to give them a password. I was then passed through to security and was asked for my password. He then read out some t&cs to me, the phone call ended and then my manager received an invoice from them! I called them back immediately to cancel this contract that I didn’t even know I had agreed to, but was told that I cannot. I felt a total idiot falling for this until I found that I was not the only one, I have reported them to Manchester Trading Standards as others have, so hopefully they will be stopped trading soon.
This company will pretend to either be google or have the ability to effect your business' appearance on google searches.
It is entirely misrepresentative and, as such contrary to consumer legislation.
Don't pay, don't be bullied - they have no case for court and are relying on you paying up to stop them bothering you.
Contact Action Fraud (online) and local trading standards to add to the Manchester office's ongoing investigation.
I have been in law enforcement for 22 years, these people are exacting money from people with scam tactics
Do not deal, they have been harassing many people and claiming they represent google. They don't. They'll call you and ask if you want to renew your google account. They'll try and convince you that it's a service you already have. You don't and its free if you do it yourself. Be careful with these guys.
These people also known as Online Platform Management pretend to be calling you from Google and even though you don't agree to anything they threaten you with court action. Don't get caught out by these people, we are taking them to court on Monday as we want our money back.
Fraudsters - scammers - Con Merchants-
Google should act and shut them down.
