can this company be trusted

I sent my glasses for reglazing last Wednesday by 1st class post.
Several emailsl later it seems that the parcel is nowhere to be found: I cannot get an answer from the given phone number ;0203 053 6190.
I have a postage receipt and will now have to take the matter up with the local post office.
Having paid £93.95 in good faith and having studied the website carefully before placing my order,I'm in a quandary: is the company reliable;why can't they find my clearly labelled parcel and why won't they answer the phone?

Awful customer service - Nightmare, and still not resolved

I ordered frameless varifocals on 2 December 2013, knowing they would take a while to arrive. They arrived by a Royal Mail signed for service with a tracking number on 21 January. Hard to see how that was 28 days, but that is not the problem. The specs were absolutely great! I was delighted with them. Most optically comfortable specs I have worn for many years - cannot fault the optics. The frame was exactly as I had expected too. I was a happy spec wearer. For a while.
But then ...
I wear specs all day every day. I put them on in the morning and take them off at night, rarely at other times. In 50 years of spec wearing I have broken two pairs, one in a classic "garden rake" incident. I take care of them. I have to, without specs I am pretty blind. After just ten days careful use, a hinge screw fell out one morning as I was putting them on. I found the screw and was surprised when the scew just pushed in, no need to turn it, and so I realised the thread had been damaged. As far as I could see it was the thread in the frame that had stripped, not the thread on the screw, so not a simple new screw job. So in true schoolboy fashion I taped the screw in place and contacted DS. After trying to arrange to drive to their offices for a simple, "while I waited" repair, which they told me was impossible, I very reluctantly sent my specs back by post on 24 Feb, against an emailed promise from DS that "They should be back with you within a day or so, the repair/replacement should not take long at all." The specs arrived at DS and were signed for at 11:09 on 25th Feb. At 22:00 on 27th Feb I got an emal from DS saying my specs had been receoved and booked in for repair. In reply to my email asking why DS had done nothing in the past two and a half days, I was then told they went to the workshop and the repair started the next day. The reason for the delay, by the way, was they get 1000 mail items a day that need to be sorted.
Then the nightmare started. Since then I have chased and chased and chased, but I do not have my specs back. I have been told they were sent out on 5th March, but despite asking and reminding, DS have yet to give me a tracking number. The specs have not arrived and it is now nearly a week since they were supposedly sent out, two weeks since they arrived at DS for repair DS won't even respond to email now. So I have today put this in the hands of my credit card company to get a full refund for goods not of merchantable quality, and will buy elsewhere.
I stress, the glasses were absolutely excellent - best I have had for several years, and great value. But without confidence in the after sales service I would not go near them again. I suggest anyone considering buying from them reads all the comments on this site. Two weeks and counting for a simple repair - after a promise of back in a day or so, and another promise of marking the repair as urgent! It took them two and a half days just to open the package I sent back to them! Not one apology either. Nightmare.
I note in passing that the parent company which, according to the Direct Sight email footer, is EJS (UK) Ltd, was only incorporated at Companies House in mid October 2013 according to the Companies House web site. Another company with a very similar name, but with a different address, had been dissolved near the end of 2011. Had I known the company was so "new" at the time I was placing my order I would have been very wary.
If the specs do ever arrive here or if I hear anything useful from DS I will post an update to this review.
Uodate -- 11 March, after posting this review, email from DS saying "The parcel has been located at the royal mails sorting office and it has been confirmed that delivery will be attempted at your address within the next 1-2 days".
12 March - My specs arrived. They had been posted out "next day signed for" so I assume they were actually posted out on Tuesday 11 March and not on Wednesday 5th March as DS had told me. I am attempting to check this with Royal Mail. Glasses have been repaired and are great, but it took from 25th Feb when my specs arrived at the DS offices until March 12th when I got them back to replace a hinge/hinge screw - something that I was promised would take a day. Great specs though. Will not buy from them again, which is the real test. There is nothing that annoys me more than slow/indifferent cutomer service, promises that are not honoured and on top of that not even an apology for messing me about.

Great quality, but shocking discount policy, always changing discount codes

Great quality service, but they operate a shocking discount policy which changes almost daily and you always seem to get a better discount code just after you have ordered and they will not honour it!!

Also be aware that prescription lenses and tints etc are none refundable

Prompt, precise, fair prices - perfect!

I stumbled across this site via Google, and was delighted to easily find the exact replacement side arm tips I needed. My computer crashed during the Paypal payment, so I called the number and immediately spoke with Matthew, who sorted me out instantly. Received the parts in a week - in Dubai! - for a very fair cost both for the parts and shipping. Exactly the right colour, size, and model. For a modest sum I have extended the life of my expensive sunglasses!

Such a pleasant surprise in this day and age of impersonal, indifferent customer service!

glad to get product but feel postage and handling costs are excessive

The product purchased was very small, and could be posted in a simple envelope. Shipping and handling was charged at 4.42 stg, actual postage cost 79p, so quite a margin to cover handling and packaging. I was glad to get the product which repaired my glasses, and delivery was prompt. Next time, I will try and source more cheaply.

Save Time and money via Sight Direct

Having a very expensive pair of Ray-bans Aviator sunglasses sitting unused in a drawer for want of lens screw that high street optician's were unable to provide was quickly resolved by one phone call to Sight Direct who were able to provide a complete set of the correct lens and frame screws at a very reasonable price incl P&P with next delivery! problem solved at a fraction of the price for a new pair of Ray-Bans.

excellent, genuine good value - highly recommended !!!!

my ray ban aviator frames were destined for the bin - having smashed one lens i went to three opticians they all said it would be cheaper to buy a new pair for £120 - so I found sightdirect on the web and found i could get a genuine pair of replacement rayban lenses for £35 !! I ordered them - they arrived next day and I easily fitted them myself - i highly recommend this company for quality genuine products - they could easily have charged me double what I paid but they were honest and decent with excellent customer service - A great solution to a potentially expensive problem - thanks Matthew for your help - all the best - J . Just brilliant!

Right from the word go the service was great- information on the site was great but I had an older pair of glasses so had to phone them. They were clearly very knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions.
I was kept so up to date with the progress of the new lenses being ordered through to fitting and on the day of delivery was able to "track" the situation on-line.
When I picked up the glasses, the packaging was first class, so all in all it was a brilliant experience and my 'old school' Ray Ban Wayfarers now have 2 new state of the art lenses and are completely revitalised! I'm so pleased!!
