Hello, I wish I would have read up on this company a bit more. I always order my suits online, however I have always use a different company, I never once had an issue with sizing or quality of craftsmanship and quality of material with the company that I'm accustomed to order from. I was expecting the same experience with T4L since they have the same perfect fit, premium quality policy and statements. I figured I would give them a Chance.. BIG MISTAKE. I wont mention who the other company is because this is not about them It is about T4L
Tailors all measure the same way to produce a custom fit suit, shirt, coat or any other garment. T4L provides you with detailed description and they are the same as the ones provided from the company that I always order from. I double checked my measurements and sent them along with my order.
The suit Jacket shoulders a couple of inches too wide, the waist of the jacket that I had specified to be narrow fit, was about three inches each side to wide and the cut not at all narrow, straight and not form fitting, the sleeve of the suit about 1.5 inches too long. They use Cloth instead of felt for the under-collar of the suit Jacket, just cheap looking. The vest ( I did order a Three piece suit) again too big around the waist. The Pants where the only piece that fit. The stitching on the suit super flimsy and loose. You can tell that is was manufactured in a hurry, no attention to detail. No labels on the suit describing the type of Material used. That is very important, especially in a suit, nor where it was manufactured although the package can from Shanghai. The three piece suit and dress shirt came in a small box, folded and in many ways and wrinkled needing to presses. Properly pressing a suit is not cheap adding to the cost. I took it immediately to my local Tailor, who almost laughed at the quality and then progressively started to become upset and couldn't understand how someone could charge over $400.00 for the suit. He assessed the suit pinned it and gave me a estimate of $140.00 for alterations. Yes T4L offers refund for alterations but no more than $60.00 for the suit. To send the suit back you have to pay shipping and handling and depending on where you live it could cost you another $40-60. As for the shirt, the cloth quality is good, but again the shirt did not fit properly, sleeves too long, the wrist to large and neck to large also, another $30.00 to fix.
T4L will not accept returns for a refund and I also read that Paypal won't really side with you on a refund. I've asked T4L to refund me and I will happily return the order. I have not yet received anything back from them. but I can tell you from the reviews and numerous complaints I found on the internet . (unfortunately after placing and receiving my order) that they have a no return for refund policy.
I ordered an overcoat with a oversized collar, I provided reference photos as well as the measurements. Coat showed up later than promised, as for the coat the collar was TERRIBLE!!! it was sewn on in separate pieces. I paid extra to have the pockets lined with the matching liner material, which was forgotten. It was the thinnest coat I have ever seen definitely not suitable for winter especially a Canadian winter. As for the fit it was not even close maybe if I gained 100 lbs. My tailor couldn't fix the collar and it was going to cost more to alter the coat than it was worth. I emailed immediately they replied with lots of apologies but didn't make good on the 100% fit guarantee. I asked them to remake the jacket again nothing but apologies. Months went by They never once followed up with me even though they promised someone from customer service would contact me that never happened. I decided to try again and now they are saying its been to long here is the latest email Dear Mr. Thank you for your email . I am really sorry but we have a policy that allows us to refund the alterations cost only if the customer opens a support ticket within 7days from the moment of the delivery. You order was delivered an year ago and unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. We have no support ticket opened for the coat. You will have to make the alterations but unfortunately we cannot refund you. Thank you for your understanding.
I had high hopes for this company, since they were one of the few which allowed me to customise a coat the way I wanted. The colours and designs on the website looked promising.
When they wouldn't allow me to order the coat length I wanted (seriously, does everyone only want coats that stop at the thighs?) they said they would be happy to extend the length if I just made the request. So I placed my order and requested my desired length.
Then I got an email saying that they could not extend the coat length to what I wanted, despite their sugar and spice promises before I made the order. I said a different length is no good for me (what's the point of having to compromise on a 'tailor-made' coat?!). I made it clear to them that I would be willing to pay extra for my desired length, but got no reply back.
My promised delivery date came and went and when asked, they just said it would be coming soon, no explanations or apologies. I received it 3 days after my promised date, and when I opened it, the coat was missing its belt - the whole reason I decided to order from them in the first place. Not only that, the fit was ridiculous, it was so big I could have turned it into a set of curtains. I don't know if my tailor would be able to do anything about measurements this way off. The colour was (just about) right, but the material quality is very poor. Definitely not as good as the website would have you believe. For a coat, it is laughably thin - I don't know which part of China the tailors are based in (and it definitely is China according to my parcel and tracking details) but they clearly don't suffer winters there, this coat wouldn't keep you warm in the tropics. They clearly seem to think that coats are what Europeans wear for fashion, not for function. Quality is similar to coats sold in a big discount clothing chain from the UK beginning with P. Honestly, for that price you can get better coats from a department store.
When I contacted them about my missing belt, the best they could come up with was that it was definitely sent, and would I accept a £14.30 credit towards my next order? Like hell! Now they were implying that I was ripping them off for a fabric belt! And they seemed arrogant enough to think that after all I'd gone through, I would still surely be placing orders in future with them, hence the credit. I just want my belt so I can complete the slightly dodgy outfit I am now the not-so-proud owner off (I think I can probably give it away to a friend).
It is like having the customer service people at a car-maker going "I'm sorry your car came without the engine. We will however give you credit for (price of engine) to spend when you buy your next car with us." Ridiculous!
Oh and best of all, when you go to the bit in their site which says 'refunds', you won't find it. Turns out they do not have a returns or refund policy! I'm pretty sure this is illegal by the UK's Distance Selling regulation. If they don't send me my missing belt, this is definitely something I will be exploring. Of course, why on earth any decent long-distance seller would (possibly illegally?) not have a returns or refund policy is beyond me - unless they had found it was more trouble than it was worth and everyone was returning items they were dissatisfied with.
They do have a 'Perfect Fit Guarantee', though if that's their idea of perfect fit I shudder to think what their idea of imperfect is. And how can they guarantee that when I now have to get rid of about a third of the coat width to fit me? There are some things that a tailor just can't fix (though I'm still going to ask them to try).
In summary, their product quality is below average, measurements are out, and delivery and service is shoddy. Customer service seem eager to please, but largely clueless and helpless when faced with such poorly-made products. There are far better online made-to-measure tailor companies out there I have used which make a far superior product with no need for customer service interaction at all. If they offered a belted coat option, I wouldn't have had to put myself through all this waste of time and money.
2 stars as there is 'no sign of malicious intent' - but I find it difficult to imagine how much worse it could have gotten even if they had had malicious intent.
Within half a day of my unflattering but honest review, they were in contact to say they'd be sending the missing belt over ASAP. Surprise surprise, big change in attitude and tone AFTER I kicked up a storm on Trustpilot. No more fobbing me off with some credit so they could make more money off me on my next order - all of a sudden, they were sending my missing item out ASAP - which was all I'd asked for in the first place!
They've just come out and asked me to reassess my review on Trustpilot as well, so I think it's pretty clear their motivation for good customer service isn't to ensure I get what I paid for, but protecting their reputation. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth, to be honest.
So let's be fair to them - three stars: "So-so - acceptable experience but with some friction" just about nails it, although it is still pretty unacceptable to me: promising a customizable garment length then trying to backtrack on that, missed delivery time, unanswered customer query email regarding said delay, missing an item off my garment, trying to get away with not sending me the item and fobbing me off with more credit, and then changing their tune after I kicked up a fuss on Trustpilot - not exactly what I consider acceptable. After all that, would I use them again? Probably not.
Lest it be overshadowed by the customer service, I should elaborate on the product: I stand by my earlier assessment, it is pretty mediocre and below average. And before you think my idea of 'average' is impossibly high, I just want to say that my expectations for a somewhat hefty price-tag in the region of £150 was that it would at least be as good as similarly-priced off-the-rack stuff from the department stores. Which this definitely isn't. I don't know what sort of quality control or research they do on the competition, but I suggest they look further into it just by popping into a Debenhams, HoF. John Lewis or M&S.
Let's all be honest, we're not exactly going to get Savile Row quality and fit from an online tailor who manufactures in China, but I've had coats from other online tailors (specifically one with an Apple-prefix) which had far better fit and quality. So if their competitors can do it, why can't they?
So if quality is mediocre, the only thing it has going for that price tag is the fit and customisations: the former has been almost a joke in my case. If I posted a picture of the coat I was sent and one of a coat made by their competitors which has the exact same measurements (except for length), you would never believe the two companies were given the same measurements.
The customisation aspect fares much better; their range of customisations (while having some room for improvement) is better than most of their competitors - I particularly liked their range of colours. But out of quality, fit, and customisation (which I consider to be the three most important things that make you consider a 'tailor-made' garment instead of the standard off-the-rack stuff), one out of three is just not good enough. Couple that with the customer service I've been through and well.... you're reading this now, aren't you?
Basically, they had one shot to make a good impression on a new customer and they messed it up. Am I going to waste more time and money trying to claw £30 or £40 off them for alterations, or have them remake my garment? The time and hassle just doesn't seem worth it. I'd quite gladly lose out on the alteration fee not to have to deal with them again. In fact if my local tailor tells me my coat is too far gone to be altered, I'll just probably give it away rather than take up their 'perfect-fit guarantee' or get a refund (whose policy I have yet to find, btw). Why on earth would I put myself through the Tailor4Less customer service experience again, when it has been one problem after another? It only got better after an unflattering review, but if anything that's even worse because it seems to suggest they CAN do better if they wanted to - they just choose not to unless they have to!
I can't shake the feeling that their customer service is either going to come at me at some point to bump up the review - or have it taken down.
When I first found this website, I though > suits & shirts look really good and quality must be good, as it is tailor made. But here is what happened : 1° order placed in august 2° reveived late august (in due times) 3° tried the shirt and pants right away : shirt was ok (even though quality is rather low and sewing was approximat on some part) but PANTS > looked like a clown in it with measures not repected at all and fabric of really low quality 4° wrote back a complain and "Anais" told me to get adjustments anywhere close by where I live up to 15€ (whaou - how generous) > of course nothing could be done for this price as the pants have to be fully re-made 5° they asked me for pictures of pants fitting me well with all sort of proof to prove that measures provided where the right one and then told me to send those pants back to Spain (at my own expenses) 6° after more than a month of delay due to "informatic problems", they got back to me saying I will get credits to get new pants done. 7° in the meantime, having to work everyday, I needed a new pair of pants and hence purshased some in another store 8° when I replied to them (2 months after 1st delivery), I told them I wanted a new shirt instead of a new pants because it was what I needed by then and they replied that it wasn't possible to ask for anything else than that ordered in 1st place 9° since the 10/10/2013 I am asking for a refund and not getting it > this is inacceptable as they have to comply by the Swiss Law (art. 197 Obligations Law) & European law (DIRECTIVE 2011/83/UE)
< the fewer customer such companies will have, the more humble they will get and the more "customer oriented" they will become >
I strongly disrecommend to order anything to this company ever VF
