I researched and signed up for three separate options for transferring money from Euros to GBP as I'm moving to the UK - TorFX, CurrencyFair and TransferWise. My personal situation is that I was looking for a way to transfer a monthly salary across borders, so no huge amounts involved but I needed it to be quick, safe and easy.
As much as I realise security is important, I loved TransferWise's option of logging in with a Google (or Yahoo) account and getting straight in to the first payment - the security is built into the payment process itself, because you have to send the payment from your account yourself, nothing is taken. For my second payment, they asked for a proof of ID to safeguard against money laundering - again, it was easy, they accepted a passport scan pdf in minutes. Customer service was also immediate when I had a question. Both Currency Fair and especially TorFX took much longer and were more complicated, including sending letters or multiple proofs of identity before the first payment. In TorFX's case, you must instruct someone to do payments on your behalf, you can't log in and do it yourself - not for me, I want ease of use and the ability to set up payments at any time.
The payments with TransferWise were received in my other account within a couple of days of being sent and the final amounts were the same as the CurrencyFair quotes, give or take a few pounds difference.
There is nothing so far that I can fault Transferwise for.
