I have been using 123-reg to host some sites for a client. I'm a designer primarily, so whilst I know my way around Wordpress quite well, I'm not as hot on the technical side. 123-reg have been absolutely great with me. The agents on their livechat help service have been extremely helpful and patient with me. Every problem (and every dumb question) has been dealt with quickly and efficiently. We've only been with them for a week so far, so fingers crossed the ongoing hosting continues to be as good as their help
I am completely new to hosting my own VPS and 123 support have the patience of saints with me, no matter what my problem, they either point me in the right direction supporting me in my learning of how to manage my VPS or they fix whatever problem I am having (nothing I have to say caused by 123 - generally my own ignorance of how to run a VPS). I heard some horror stories before signing with them and I can't compare my own experience to others, but I presently run nigh on 100 client websites across 2 hosting companies and am slowly moving them over to my 123 VPS due to the efficiency and support of their product. Well done 123 (and Ady and Soren) :-)
I am a web designer and as such I am in a position to recommend a service provider to my clients. I have been with 1-2-3-reg for a number of years now and I have always found their service excellent. I always recommend them to my clients and have had several clients who have signed up and several more who say they will change once their current contract runs out. I would be happy to recommend them to anyone
It would be really useful and reassuring if 123-reg had more authority over third part apps which it supplies, such as Wordpress -- particularly with installation and setup / transfer of of blogs to the new site hosted on 123-reg.
Just make sure you read their packages outlines properly! I was careless and could have been out of quite a bit of money after buying the wrong hosting package but their customer service Guy handled it quickly - offering me a refund or an upgrade at a reasonable rate (took the upgrade) :).
Hey, I just opened a domain--we didn't know anything but it was made easy for an 'old' codger' to figure out...there is a resistance against technology and computors in general with grownups'ha'ha, but you can't dis-invent the wheel, can you?! This company certainly the best--thanks again. Big Guy In The Sky...I need it!!!! XX
123-Reg allowed me to buy a domain that was taken, then blamed me for not doing enough research.
Upon searching for the domain on their website I was happy to find that it was available so I quickly snapped it up and paid for it. I received the pdf from 123-Reg confirming my purchase and ownership of said domain. However, after 20 minutes the domain still didn't show in my account. I did a whois search with another provider to find that the domain was already taken.
I contacted 123-Reg who apologised and refunded my purchase. However, the problem is that after securing my domain I went ahead and made other purchases relating to it at considerable cost. 123-Reg refused to credit me any sort of amount for me to choose an alternative domain to try to salvage my situation and blamed me for the error.

I have recently signed up with 123 for domain hosting and business email. 2 weeks in and I have discovered my email just randomly deletes itself from the inbox, whats worse is when I call to log the issue they disconnect me... (after realising there is not a lot they can do). You would at least think the next guy I speak to would be apologetic. Anyway when I typed in my problem on google - 'email going missing from 123 mailbox', not to my surprise I discover there have been several other people with the same issue that have since switched to a reliable provider. - Example http://forums.thedigitalfix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551706
Even after explaining the urgency in obtaining my important business emails that have gone missing the smug operator from 123 advised me that they could take up to 48 hours to get back to me with a response (not even a fix).
Dreadful service and unacceptable performance....
infuriated customer and business owner at risk of losing business over something so essential to the service I paid for.
I've used 123reg for a number of years - starting with my own small domain and hosting, then buying more domains as our business has grown. The site is easy to use for a bit of a technophobe like me, but I can honestly say their support staff are very good indeed - last night I managed to utterly break something with my web forwarding, which unlinked my hosting and generally had no idea what to do. Danny from their support team was very patient and had it all fixed in no time :)
Submitted a query regarding my domain and received the answer and fixed the problem in a space of 15 mins. This was out of normal office hours and was clear and straight to the point (Thank you Andrew for your speedy help). I would never choose another provider ever, 123 reg has always been super efficient
Had a problem setting up new payment details so had to call 123-Reg. In my past experience with many online companies, they fail miserably with "Customer Care" & "After Support", BUT NOT 123-Reg, my call was answered in roughly about 45 secs by a human being, didn't have to listen to all the automated messages you usually get with a lot of online companies, problem was resolved within 2 minutes, the dude was extremely knowledgable about what he was doing and most of all was extremely helpful even after the problem was solved, by just asking are there any other issues that you may need help with and his willingness to help. It is good to say to myself and others that "123-Reg" provided an excellent service, i can honestly say that this is the first time ever in my life that i have been really pleased with the service provided by an online company's support team.
Help was excellent. Cristian quickly understood what problems I were having and had a quick look into them for me. Found the problem and simply asked me if I wanted them fixed, I said yes and that was that...all done...excellent

Wonderful Service - professional, knowledgeable, perfect.
It makes such a difference to have a professional support team there to help you in real-time. (The phone support is great, although there is also a support ticket system for less urgent issues).
There is almost never any downtime and few or no problems in the 5 years I've been using this company
Poor customer service - if you send a message with several separate issues where one of them is one they'd rather not deal with then they will just ignore it. Interface is very clunky and in several instances misleading as to what you are and are not entitled to use, and may lead you to believe you have to pay more for something you have actually already paid for. Functionality is basic to say the least and I never did manage to get email working so eventually changed host and lost about £17 in the process.
A week into this train wreck and can still not finish my site. They put me through to Daniel in another company who was most helpful. The internal help desk have less product knowledge then I do! I altered the background to my site and on preview looks totally different to what is shown on the site. They blamed IE then firefox.Horrible experience horrid company.
You sent me a request to confirm an address
I confirmed the address was wrong and supplied the correct address as requested
You told me to update it myself using the control panel
I logged onto control panel only to find my new address, not the address on you original email
your support center email dodged giving me a reason for this by supplying none relevant responses to my correspondence.
I still do not know if my old email address is in your direct debit system
Very poor customer support experience.
It's easy no doubt when you know how, but I didn't, and I was a little apprehensive about asking for help, but Adi took the initiative and saved me the embarrassment of having to admit I had no clue to what I was doing, it all seemed daunting first time, but I was fortunate to have a 123-reg man able to assist me, excellent.
The other morning I awoke to find 123 reg had took £43 for hosting for a domain I dont own. It was taken out of my paypal account, I put a 123 reg ticket in to complain. I also rung paypal and they said open up a case, which I did
A few hours later paypal give me my money back and I thought that it was a mistake by 123 reg and that was it.
Today I couldn't log on to my account with 123reg when I phoned them they said because I went through PayPal and got my money back I HAVE ALSO GIVEN 123 REG BAD FEEDBACK WITH PAYPAL so they want the money and a 12.50 admin fee £56 in total before they reopen the account.
I have changed my rating to 5 stars, and they deserve it, I have the most helpful people from 123 reg ring me and sort all this out.
I received a call from customer services, who then passed me to the hosting team, who sorted my problem then passed me to domains to sort another issue. problem... what problem, really happy with the service and the way this has been handled
I would recommend these guys anytime.
Thanks 123 reg
I am losing the will to live right now ! cant send emails ...keeps failing to connect with the server - ie 123 reg I think the lad on the phone was having a laugh !!! 6 hours on the phone to Adam - Craig and Anthony no result only total annoyance why do they call themselves a HELP line if they cant help ????????? Very bad indeed still cant send an email and now I have 213 emails to open as we started the account again ohh and 122 junk mail ? I am furious :( :( :(

any modern day php developer knows that many of your applications files do not belong in the publicly accessible part of your website. modern frameworks usually contain several folders such as application, library etc which should not be available to visitors.
123-reg ftp only allows you to load everything into the public_html folder. This, without having to explain myself) causes problems. however it is easily fixed by setting the apache DocumentRoot to a subfolder such as public_html/public. However, again this is another basic function which is lacking in their hosting services.
I was told none of this was possible and to start changing my code.
A quick chat with some fellow developers over IRC and the general consensus is that they wouldnt touch 123-reg with a barge pole, for these reasons.
However, my client had already bought and paid for their hosting so i kept at the support staff and they manually changed the settings for me, pointing out to me that they were making an exception for me. So the site is now serving up as it should!
I have nothing but praise for the support guy who helped me, Victor. He deserves a medal, raise, promotion, or all 3!
I also asked that he pass my support ticket on to management. In my eyes, lacking these basic functions is a serious flaw with their hosting, and no doubt puts off many developers from investing in what is a rather good platform otherwise!
overall, i am happy with the end result, and hope that 123-reg value customer feedback and will hopefully implement these basic features in the near future :-)
I'm migrating to 123-reg and wish that I'd moved years ago (the previous hosting providers, Streamline.net, are amateurs in comparison).
I've made 3 calls to support regarding the migration. Each call was answered quickly by confident, plain speaking, competent staff who clearly wanted to help and left me much clearer and with an inner "warm feeling" that everything would be fine.
I have already recommended 123-reg to friends and customers with websites and will continue to do so.
By far the worst I have used as they renew your domains automatically without the customer opting into this service. I was unaware of this as it isn't clear when signing up (even though they tell you its in the terms and conditions, actually its buried deep within the terms and conditions). I was unable to access my email account for some time so didn't get the emails notifying me of renewal but they were completely unsympathetic with that. I presumed if I didn't renew the domain myself manually it would just expire so I was surprised to see money taken from my account and making me overdrawn in the process which I will now have to pay bank charges for. Contacted 123 reg but got no sympathy at all, all they would say was "it is in our terms and conditions". Cancelled account and will never use again.
I had used 123-reg for quite some time including web hosting. I decided to go elsewhere for my web hosting as I found 123-reg to be expensive. My web hosting was not on auto renew and I got notifications that it was due to run out the site even went offline due to this. My site was running on a new hosting service and I was saving money.
A year on I noticed a PayPal payment for the full years web hosting paid to 123-reg, something I did not authorise.
I contacted 123-reg and explained my web hosting cancelled a month prior why had this come out? They told me if I wanted to cancel my web hosting I would need to call the number. I again explained the hosting had run out, that no files were on the hosting and was not on auto renew and I wanted a refund, they refused.
As anyone would do I raised a dispute with Paypal and the money was refunded no contact via 123-reg. I tried to log on today to find my account suspended and a number to call. The gent explained that my account was closed due to a Paypal dispute, firstly why did they not argue the dispute at the time? (if they felt they were so right?) secondly my account is now locked so I can't look at prior tickets (crafty!) and third and my main point 123-reg took a payment from me that I did not authorise! When disputed they got in a strop and suspended my account instead of following procedure.
I struggled to forward my email from my domain mailbox to my personal email account. The guides on 123-reg are not very clear, plus the fact that Chat support is only available 9am-5pm on Weekdays is a bit useless given I run my website on evenings on weekends as I have a day job. I eventually discovered that I needed to delete my mailbox and then set it up as a "Fowarder" to my personal email account, this definately was not clear in any of the guides sadly..
Not that impressed to be honest 123-Reg especially given how you butter yourselves up as one of the best domain providers online.
The bloke was great knew what I needed and did it for me rather than fob me off and let me sort it out myself he explained what I did wrong so that I know what to do next time great that some people have the time to speak to us that do not know what we are doing great service
I've used 123 reg for years with no problems, until I got a new bank card. I was away when I received one email saying that payment had failed, but that they would try again in 5 days. I didn't hear anything, and a couple of weeks later my service was discontinued with no second notice, or warning or anything. My email went down, as did the website. This obviously did terrible things to my business. I contacted support, who didnt get back to me for 2 days, then ended up using the chat option on the website to resolve the issue. Chat was slow, sometimes more than 5 minutes between replies. No phone support available.
Turns out that they had made a mistake on the emails they sent me, failing to notify me that the service would be cut off. I was referred to the small print, that exonerates 123 reg from this type of misinformation. I ended up having to pay £75 to get my domain out of its 'redemption period'. I accept partial blame for putting off dealing with the first warning, but I expected (not unreasonably, I think) that they would send a second notice, or at least a warning that my service would be discontinued.
I'm not sure if any other registrar would do better than this, but just a heads up to anyone considering using their services.
