too high cancelation and amendment fee

I book the ferry for my holiday from 24th JULY to 29th July at early July...
However, I had to cancel or amend this ferry ticket because my mother who travel with us got hurt her feet at 16th July...
as there is littele information about cancelation fee in web-site when I book the ticket...such as "minimun 25 pound can be asked as cancel fee", I did not worry about the cancelation..
however, I was shocked when I called to ferry company to cancel the ticket because the ferry company said that I cannot have any money when I canel the ticket (the ticket price is 430 pound)...
for this reason, I have to amend my ticket to another day (26th August and 31st August), but the amendment fee is also very expensive, it is 247 pound...
as a result, I pay 677 pound gor travel to the dublin.. comparing the initial price (430 pound) and normal price at amended date (550 pound), I had no choice but to pay extra cost (130 - 240 pound)....
I know that I have responsibility for cancel and amend for my ticket... but I was unhappy becaus it was accident for mum to get hurt in her feet and I could not figure out the cancel policy in the web-site when I booked ferry ticket..
I think that it make sence if you decribe your cancelation policy in the web-site because it is very important information when people make decision...
