Cagey and unhelpful

I booked a return ferry journey with Northlink Ferries from Scrabster to Sromness due to leave Scrabster on May 8th and return May 13th. The ferry had engine trouble at this time and all ferry crossings were cancelled until May 24th. Luckily my friend in Orkney informed me of the problem and after a number of phone calls to Aferry and Northlink, all of which gave me unhelpful and misleading information, I booked on another ferry. When I phoned to enquire about a refund and complained about the lack of information the staff member said that all affected customers had been informed by email on 1st May. I have checked my emails and this is untrue. The only positive thing I can say is that I will have a refund. I hope at least this is true.

We did however contact you via email 2nd May when information about your sailing became available to us and you decided to cancel your sailing 9th May, for which you received a full refund.

simple and best way to find a ferry

Just find this site the only way to search with plenty of choice on price and availability!

Easy to handle website. Easy to book. Again and again and again.

Aferry.co.uk has this marvellous function which allows you to compare prices in one simple view, not having multiple windows popping up. Booking process is as easy as it could be. Only problem is that if you travel with pets, you cannot book for them. Aferry.co.uk ought to add a choice for pets next to Adults and Children select boxes.

Thank you for your review. There are a few routes we sell where we do have the functionality to book pets online, but this depends entirely on the arrangement we have with the operator and their booking system. The aim is to get this online for as many routes as possible because we agree with you, it would be a very good option to have!

It can be hard to sort out the cheapest ferries- this site saves time and is pretty good at sorting out lowest fares- best of luck!

Easy ferry booking

Found this site whilst checking ferry prices ... quick and easy, trustworthy, booked ticket same day as travelling and saved money (spoke to ferry company to check on-the day purchase price) ... would recommend to anybody !

Frustration free, except...

The usual easy and trouble free booking through AFerry. This time Greek island hopping.
My only frustration and annoyance is the final page addition of a £1 fee for using a Debit Card. We have all grown accustomed to fees on Credit Cards because of the commission the seller pays the card companies. But why on Debit Cards?

The webside did the seach for me and i only had to choose what suited me.

Punitive policy to errors in booking

No alternative prices/ticketing options for ferry I needed. Totally inflexible attitude to correcting an innocent error in booking details and penalty clause for amendments is swingeing and punitive. Also they apply a handling fee to debit card transactions which is hardly standard in on-line industry. Won't be using this agency again unless their policy changes.

The crossing was very rough going out but you cant help the weather.The room was good en suite facilities good exellent shower no complaints at all.The return journey no complaints even the weather was good.

"why dont you take a (price) hike"

i am suspicious of aferry's pricing system, where they 'save' your 'quote' and you return to it later to find the price can be 'hiked' by 20%. i wonder if thier computer is programmed to 'play' with quotes and pricing to maximize profit and 'squeeze' as much as they can out of customers

Very easy to use and great to be able to book different routes in one step.

I wanted to travle out from Harwich to Hook of Holland and return Calais to Dover. This site lets me do this without having to go through the process twice. It is very simple to use, easy to read and does the job. I am very pleased with the price and it only took a few minutes.

Generally very good service

I was a bit annoyed at being charged £10 to change my vehicle registration details. It seems excessive as everything handled via the computer and I have to print out the information!

The booking experience was simple and straightforward.

I used AFerry.co.uk to book our trip to France. The layout was excellent and I was able to book cabins which weren't available on the actual Ferry site, so I will definitely use this site again

If there was competition you would not get many passengers. Your service on the boats is good, but making a booking is difficult.

We wished to travel Jersey Portsmouth on the slow ferry and return on the fast ferry.
It seems that one can not do this as a single booking. Each direction has to be booked separately so because the internet connection was poor a very frustrating two hours was lost.
Both the Jersey and Portsmouth offices gave prerecorded messages advising us to use the internet booking system, which was where we had the problem. There seemed to be no staff available to advise or help.

Aferry UK allows booking from ports on European mainland

This is one way to get ferry crossings from most European ports without assuming you will be leaving the UK via Dover or other UK ports. Highly recommended and usually cheaper than booking direct with the ferry companies.

Good website consolidating all ferry companies.

Would be even better if it compared the different companies so you didn't have to fully amend your quote or start again when changing between different companies. Still useful and have booked so all good.

Can't beat the service

I've been using Aferry for a number of years and I haven't found a better service anywhere. Recently i've needed to book a driver and car return, with a passenger on the return journey and it appears that this isn't possible online, i'm sure i'm not the only customer to need this facility. I've had to make two seperate bookings.
Apart from this little hiccough, an excellent service.

Very Expensive Amendment charges and rude customer service.

Booked a ferry over the internet and make a mistake. I called ASAP to be charged £45 amendment fee on a ticket which was £115, this is too much money which I put to the customer service, which her reply was to just leave the booking as is was!! which was of no use for me. The ticket was actually the same price with the ferry company itself which I could have also booked online, and would have only been charged £20 amendment, so what is the purpose of aferry. I will not be using them again, due to extortionate amendment fees and quite rude customer service.

A simple no nonsense site that I will definitely use again

I am not very computer literate as you know but I found this the easiest site to use and made a booking without any difficulties. I shall use it again and recommend to my colleagues and friends.

Don't book with this travel Agent, as you will pay an extra £3.50, for the pleasure, and an extra £1.00 for using your debit card.

Go direct to the Isle of Man Steam Packet site to save money.

Thank you for your review, looking at your details it appears that one of your bookings failed. When a booking is attempted, money is automatically reserved in your account for the transaction and it may appear as though the amount has been debited from your account. If a booking fails, this money will NOT be debited from your account, and an automatic response will be sent to your bank cancelling the transaction. However, occasionally, it may take some time for your bank to process this, and in the interim period the money may still appear to have been taken out of the account. If this is the case, please do not be alarmed. We will not debit the money from your account, and it will appear back in your account shortly.

Wave credit card fee - or allow American Express

I have not taken my trip yet, but the booking went smoothly. A couple of items:
- If you are going to charge us to use credit cards, then offer American Express
- Because your system would not accept my debit card, Am express, or paypal, I had to pay a fee to you for visa, and a currency coversion fee. It appears customers have a choice, but in fact, I had no choice.
- perhaps when no alternative is offered for non-UK nationals to use their debit card, e.g., you could wave the fee.
- Also, it was difficult to show a rental car where you do not have registration details. I made a reservation was quite nervous when Icould not fill out make/model.

OK but a glitch

Even before I travel I have a problem - maybe you can help. I did not see before I booked and paid that it was a 1 hour check in time to catch the ferry from jersey to St Malo on Sat 19 May. This advice is loud and clear on Booking Form (5272997) but I don't recall it on prior documentation. (I am not saying it is not there, just I didn't know and in my casual Australian way I thought 1 hr 20 min would give us plenty of time to board the ferry as foot passengers. (The plane arrives that early - but what if it is late; there is no taxi to be had etc etc) Not being made of money I cant afford to start booking alternatives and just double paying.. HELP HELP
