website down more often than not when trying to book when I finaly was able to book I was charged twice
I have not taken my trip yet, but the booking went smoothly. A couple of items:
- If you are going to charge us to use credit cards, then offer American Express
- Because your system would not accept my debit card, Am express, or paypal, I had to pay a fee to you for visa, and a currency coversion fee. It appears customers have a choice, but in fact, I had no choice.
- perhaps when no alternative is offered for non-UK nationals to use their debit card, e.g., you could wave the fee.
- Also, it was difficult to show a rental car where you do not have registration details. I made a reservation was quite nervous when Icould not fill out make/model.
Even before I travel I have a problem - maybe you can help. I did not see before I booked and paid that it was a 1 hour check in time to catch the ferry from jersey to St Malo on Sat 19 May. This advice is loud and clear on Booking Form (5272997) but I don't recall it on prior documentation. (I am not saying it is not there, just I didn't know and in my casual Australian way I thought 1 hr 20 min would give us plenty of time to board the ferry as foot passengers. (The plane arrives that early - but what if it is late; there is no taxi to be had etc etc) Not being made of money I cant afford to start booking alternatives and just double paying.. HELP HELP

First time booking service. Travelling by bus to connection would have been easier if there had been indication of bus times on site. Have booked but as a fooot passenger told this is onlyy provisional two days later still await confirmation of trip. Had difficulty using Maestro card and had to use credit card. The card was accepted quite readily when I used it next to book the bus. I just felt I still do not know whether I can get a ferry to Orknwy or not although I have paid for it.
I wanted to book a ferry from the UK to Jersey and found the site easy to use. There was a slight problem in that we are taking a six month baby and so I rang the company. The girl was very helpful and said she would phone me back with the answer, which she did within the hour. It was good to have a phone number to ring under contact tab with a real person answering. It turned out that I needed to book a seat for the baby so the booking form should make it clear. The price was £50 cheaper than booking directly with the ferry company.
The only other improvement I would suggest is that at present you have to say where exactly you want to leave from, e.g. Poole whereas if there was an 'any uk port' to jersey like the equivalent flight booking sites, you could see what options there are. I had to research the various ferry routes first and found by chance the Poole to jersey one. Otherwise the site was very easy to use. Thank you.
When we arrived on the boat we were greeted in a friendly manner and directed to our seats. However when we got to our seats we realised that myself and my partner had not been seated together, which was what we booked. Luckily a gentleman kindly swapped with myself so we were together as he was travelling alone. Also my partners seat was broke and was constantly in the reclining position. All in all our travel with britanny ferries was exceptable but not exceptional.. food was nice and reasonably priced.
I didn't received booking cofirmation e-mail so I asked once more 2 days before the departure but even though the operator told me she sent the confirmation but it didn't arrive.
I also checked junk mail box several times but no e-mail from your side.
Website allows easy view of prices for alternative times of travel to see whether it would make a difference what time of day is cheapest to travel.
Planning my trip couldn't have been simpler, their website's idiot-proof. I wanted to take one route to Holland and a different one back, which gets really tedious with two lots of forms, so I was really pleased to find aferry. They made it really easy.
Easy to search, fast results, quick simple booking ... Couldn't want for more!!
I travel to france at least every month, so have used aferry before not having any issues what so ever.
However this last time i travelled i was not impressed. I put the travel dates in the website and the crossing came up. However me beleiving the i would be leaving on the thursday as that is what i entered, actually came up with only friday crossings. Had a quick look at the times and booked what i beleive to be the thurs night. Get the confirmation e-mail and realise that it sais friday. Having booked my ticket the wednesday night i am unable to amened my ticket untill the thursday (day of travel) i make a call to aferry and are told that i will have to pay £76 when my ticket was only a few quid more. I explained the situation on the phone but they didnt want to know! All they wanted was more money to change the crossing. I beleive that if i search for thursday crossings the thursday ones should come up not friday!!!
Cannot recommend highly enough. Have used for a number of years now. The one time I screwed up with a booking they could not do enough to help me out at no extra charge.
Clear instructions.Easy to navigate between pages. So much nicer being able to book your tickets here in England ahead rather than in Spain and worrying if they still had room on the ferry.
I am extremely disappointed. I was unable to find a telephone number in my local directory for Hovertravel. When a friend gave me the local number I was informed I had to book online. I did this yesterday for a return journey to Ryde today on my I Pad. I noted both reference numbers down and showed these to the staff at Hovertravel in Southsea. She said neither number was correct and she was unable to confirm my booking by my name. As a result and 15 minutes later I had no alternative than to pay for another return ticket if I wanted to travel. No apology and I was told I had to e mail and request a refund. I got in about 4.30 this afternoon and the phone number quoted on the Internet was not in service. I tried to phone and was told by an automted message ring back tomorrow as there was exceptional traffic on the line..I could not find the e mail address and feel very upset and frustrated.
Very good service when other ferries failed to deliver
The initial website was easy to use an very clear with every option I needed. when I wanted to amend my booking a single phone call got what I wanted with friendly and efficient service. Would recommend.
I hadn't booked a ferry before but found the AFerry.co.uk now website easy to use and
after putting in the times and routes the answers were super speedy and we got more than
one choice. The prices were very satisfactory too, I call that very efficient, Thankyou
The boat was clean, the staff friendly and well informed and the trip went as planned (on time). The food was barely acceptable and the cheapest seats were cramped and not very comfortable. The loading process was a bit cumbersome but that could be expected as the ferry was not a roll on/roll off type.
It was so easy, everything went accroding to the plan, no delay, I will use them again and I recommend everyone! Just bring a book and relax!
The telesales service was speedy, polite and factual. I have booked my replacement ferry crossing with you.
Well done.

I changed the date of our trip and was charged 25 pounds for the change - okay. But after we had arrived and checked in at our hotel Mum felt worse and in a lot of pain so we checked out and returned the same day. She is 90 with bad knees and we would really appreciate a refund of the 2nd 25 pounds to change the booking again and come back the same day to drive her back to Woking Hospital. We would really appreciate any help you can give us in this...
Thank you... Julian Hudson
23/4/13 over - 25/4/13 back. Also the lift failed upon arrival at Fishbourne.
All good use it regulary
Booked return ferry jouneys between Pireaus and Porto Heli. Return trip was cancelled at last minute because of strike.
We were stranded 100+ KMs from Athens Airport and had to get a taxi.
Contacted AFerry on return to get refund of return fares. This was in October and eventually got refund some 5 months later after numerous e-mails, registered letter (with tickets) and phone calls. Customer service was very poor. Seems that the further south you go in the UK then the worse the standard of the staff is. Customer satisfaction is not an option. Holding on to money is and if we hadn't brought the subject up with AFerry then they certainly weren't going to volunteer a refund.
Reactive instead of proactive. Very poor approach to customers in 2013.
Booking was easy but it seems I clicked the wrong button for my return. I noticed after printing that the return is booked for Sunday when I intended it to be on Monday. I tried calling for help only to realize there is none at night and over the weekend. I am waiting to contact you tomorrow.
I have used your service before.
Dear Sir,
When I booked to travel on the Caen - Portsmouth ferry for 13th August, yesterday, I made an error with my online booking and booked for the morning ferry instead of the late evening ferry. I realised my error, to my horror, and contacted AFerry immediately, only to be told that I would incur a cancellation charge of over £100 to correct my error. I can only say that I was flabbergasted by this response and was obliged to let my erroneous booking stand.
I expected to be penalised to some small extent for my error, but £100 ?!!! Particularly as I had reacted immediately.
Yours faithfully,
Philip Parker
Twice had to amend ferry booking over the last week, no problem with the phone conversation, but one confirmation e-mail never came through.( luckily it was first change or may have caused problems at port).
The main difficulty when booking in advance from outside of the UK is the requirement to enter a car make and registration when this won' t be known until the car is hired much closer to the time of travel.
I made a mistake filling in the form. When I phoned AFerry to see if they would correct it they informed me that they could not and that I should purchase another ticket as the ferry was unlikely to accept a ticket with incorrect information. If ever I use AFerry again I'll be sure to check the booking information before sending it as I've paid for a ferry ticket that I may not be able to use.
Easy booking, printed off details and traveled with no problems.
I've recently had so many experiences of complicated website with busy pages that I found this one a pleasure and it avoided me making mistakes. That is all I need to say.
However one extra I would have liked was the option to buy an overnight hotel stay on the night before my departure. Or did I miss it?
I hope the trip is as good as the booking process!
Quick and easy to book, saves all the hasselthey found the cheapest way from England to the Continent with no worries.
We have been treated as if we are the most important of customers thy deal with and have a first class portfolio of properties
I think it´s probably one of the most customer-friendly sites I have ever used. I am not a computer expert and I welcome the no-nonsense, simple and direct question-and- answer system used. Well done!
Service is easy to use and easily the best.
From the original E mail to completing the booking I found this a simple and efficient exercise
excellent website with good service
