They do NOT get you the best rates......they simply offer you the reduced rate based upon you paying up front for the Hotel booking. You can do this on other sites. Difference here is that they make sure to hide the fact that most hotels do NOT allow you to cancel you reservations, even the day after you booked it. They have horrible customer service reps and they are difficult to reach.......STAY AWAY!!!!!!
Made a reservation at Cherry Blossoms Hotel in Manila for my wife. Checked off on twin beds, paid same rate as on CB website to Agoda. Wife gets billed $20 by CB for extra bed, was assigned to a queen room. You cannot choose superior twin room using Agoda website, Agoda says "sorry". Why use their site when you can get the same rate at hotel site and be able to chose specific room type ("superior twin"), which you cannot do on Agoda? Be careful if you use Agoda for booking. Pissed....
Will not use again.
First you probably will pay more as they brag to the hotels they pay a higher rate to them.the truth is we pay MORE .Second their service is terrible, IF you finally get someone it is in INDA, hardly can speak English & will absolutely end up a waste of time. Need a refund, get overcharged, get a hotel that they misrepresented on their web sight, that is their 4 star service. I can NOT understand how they can get so many good ratings, unless they are writing about themselves.
I paid booked for and paid for my hotel for a week stay in shanghai, everything was confirmed with the website, I arrived in shanghai at 1am in the rain only to find did not exist for a couple of months, my phone was dead so I found another hotel and called Agoda only to speak to someone from India that did not speak much english and told me off for not contacting the company before i got another hotel room, he was reluctant to refund me or pay out any compensation.
I checked the next day and I could still book a hotel room from that hotel
Good luck getting a hold of someone on the phone...when you do get them via email you will talk to 6 different people and never get anything resolved. We will never ever use this service again - what a waste of time and money!
Don't waste time with travel agent as you can do it yourself with great ease. The website is user friendly. The payment method is so fast that you don't even have to leave your chair whilst completing the details.
You will be spoilt for choice but all up to you as to what you want..... beach hotel or smack in the middle of CBD. Your Choice !
Always try and check with hotel directly. Agoda may say "only 1 room left" but plenty on site at better rate. In Khoa Sok the room was over priced for value plus we couldn't check out one day early. Lost entire room price. Plus original tree house room smelled so bad we had to move. No discount. Just beware.
Update: Agoda subsequently sent a series of very helpful emails confirming all our details and corresponded with the hotel on our behalf to ensure checkin was no problem.
We will continue to book with Agoda.
I have used Agoda 5 times with no issues, but unfortunately this time we have had a great deal of trouble. We have booked with OK Hotel in Iceland and want to notify them we will be checking in late, we read a review that said another patron had an issue checking in outside of 3:00-3:30 pm so we have been trying to contact the hotel directly - unfortunately they do not answer their phone and have no email address listed. We have contacted Agoda by email and phone and they simply say they "need to get back to us" but offer no way to help. This means we will be flying into Iceland at 1.30am and we do not know if we can check into accommodation despite the fact we have paid.
Very poor that Agoda cannot help us.
vi kom til The Atrium Ratchada 13 Hotel
Adresse: 208 Soi Ratchadaphisek 13. Ratchadaphisek Rd., Dindaeng
Ankomstdato: January 17, 2013
My original review: Charged additional resort fees after my stay that I was never made aware of at the time of booking.
UPDATE: I only posted my poor review after speaking on the phone to someone in accounts from MGM about the receipt I received from them that had the additional charges and they said there was nothing they can do and to talk to Agoda.
I had also emailed MGM and someone just got back to me (took longer than they advised it would, and only received a reply after re-sending my first email). Explained the screw up, but did not offer me a refund, only after I emailed again asking for it did they say that I will be refunded for those additional fees.
I changed Agoda's rating from a 1 (which I gave when it seemed as if the issue wasn't going to be resolved) to a 3. I would have given them a 5 if everything had been seamless and even though it probably isn't their fault it has been a big hassle.
I booked a hotel through Agoda last October. There was an error on their website and the hotel that should have been in Eureka, CA was actually in Missouri! When I e-mailed their customer service they refunded the original booking, also the extra money that I had to pay when getting a new hotel in Eureka, CA, awarded the Agoda points that I would have got and gave me 10% off my next booking. I have just made a new booking and have had it confirmed that the 10% will be with me shortly.
My only gripe is on the serch engine, the prices displayed are for 1 person - it would be better if when you do the initial search you could specify 2 people. Also, would like to be able to list search results on price.
Overall, very happy
Booked a hotel with agoda for the trip to China in October. Hotel confirmed received the reservation but not the payment, asked me to call agoda . Impossible as the charge will be prohibitive, forced to pay again. Try to claim back, agoda would not reponse to the email, forced to call up the bank for help. Faxed all the receipts to the bank, then agoda sent email claiming that is cost for no show, later claiming money paid as deposits and hotel had refunded all the payment. Ask for acknowledgement from my side, Cannot produce. Now is asking for the receipt again, i told to get it from my bank. The money involved is only around USD 100, but if i hv to call them in Ireland, my telephone bill will be more than that. Never use agoda, not after sales service. If yr got problem, you will get a computer generated reply.........
My family and I want to stay in Taipei in this Chinese New Year, but based on one and else condition we change our arrival date two days due to the prior reservation in Agoda.com , they said we can change our reservation trough some self management tools. However, when I clicked change to our desired dates the website becomes so perplexing. No confirmation if the process had been success/fail/still on progress. How to deal with it? they don't even response to the direct email we have sent. Well, do not try Agoda if your date is still tentative, they are more strict than an old lady.
Contact centre works to a script, providing "canned" verbal and written responses. Agents reluctant to connect you to a manager who can consider your issue in an informed, intelligent way.
Dealing with Agoda proved a very frustrating and costly experience.
Consider alternative companies.
I called the customer service number and was prompted to enter information but their system kept running a tape in a loop, no matter how many times I entered the information that I was asked to enter. Called twice and was not able to speak with anyone. Kept hearing a tape play. I will never book any hotel from agoda.com again. In contrast, I have excellent experience with hotels.com and have been booking hotels from this site for more than 2 years. Bookings.com also seem very reasonable and states their cancellation policy upfront in bold letters.
The cancellation fee is totally unjustifiable. Everything and anything purchased comes with a legal right to cancel within 24 hours without penalty. The cancellation fee is unreasonable esp. considering I made an honest mistake to have double booked two different hotels for the same night. Trying to contact a live agent was a waste of my time.
We booked a night in the Grandeville hotel in Bangkok on New Years Eve. We got the hotel booking confirmation through Agoda. When we turned up at the hotel at about 6 P.M. the manager told us there were no rooms available and tried to dismiss us. We told her about the booking through Agoda, to which she told us that they told Agoda in the morning that there were no rooms. I managed to call Agoda through the hotel (through much difficulty), When I spoke with the advisor at Agoda he offered to refund me for the night as well as an additional night at the hotel plus a 20% discount on any future booking, which although I was grateful for at the time, it didn't really help me as I was still in an foreign country with no hotel for the night. It took another hour and a half after walking around Bangkok to find a hotel as I had no internet access where I was and the hotel wasn’t willing to find a replacement hotel.
So far Agoda have only refunded me for the one night and not the additional night that they agreed to. After emailing them through their website advising them of what had happened, they responded by saying it happens!! As if it is acceptable for them to sell rooms, take your money, send confirmation and then wait for you to turn up at the hotel before finding out that you have no room.
I have since emailed them back, asking if their response is acceptable, and if it is in their terms that it is down to the individual who books through them to wait until they get to the hotel before finding out there are no rooms. I am still waiting for a response.
We booked a 3-night stay on Agoda.com for New Year holidays (including the new year's eve night). The reservation got confirmed by Agoda and they have charged our credit card and provided a voucher. However, 9 days before our scheduled arrival, we received a call from Agoda saying that our reservation has been relocated to a different hotel. Naturally, we asked Agoda about the details of the new hotel and the room. We were given the name of the new hotel and told that once more information is available (such as room type), someone from Agoda will get back to us. Well, 3 days later, we still had no information from Agoda, so we phoned them. After speaking to some rude man on the phone who was unable to provide any information, we asked if we could speak to a manager instead, and the man just hung up the phone! poor poor services! We then googled the alternative hotel offered by Agoda and found the phone number. We called the hotel ourselves and was only then told that the hotel is actually full for New Year and that we do not have a room there! The manager at the hotel was very nice and sympathetic. He also informed us that Agoda has been notified that there's no room, and yet Agoda still insisted on booking us there!? Now, we were at 4 days before arrival and with no hotel during a high season - thanks to Agoda's poor service! The problem is that they are registered in Thailand, so if anything doesn't work out , you are out of luck as you're not protected by the laws of the US or the UK or any other countries. Best to use a reputable online agent who's based in a western country.
AGODA's customer service specialist replied promptly to me.
They sent a kind letter and they amend my booking to which i aimed for.
i accepted the amendment.
i am only concerned to the package mistake,
No other intention.
I highly appreciate Agoda's effort to make customer satisfied.
i will continue to use their service.
Next time use screenshot for all online transaction.
I also thank Fullerton, very responsive and cooperative to customer's issue.
Thank you for all.
Last night i booked Fullerton Hotel for my january 2013 trip. i booked promo called "irresistable courtyard" which includes breakfast and free internet access. Before buying, i compare with wotif.com ; asiatravel.com and also Fullerton hotel website. They all have same promotions.
I decided to buy from agoda because i am interested in their reward program.
i bought several times before with asiatravel and also wotif.com.
But, when i received a confirmation letter,
it said i booked the room in Fullerton which not include breakfast (which has HIGHER RATE!!!)
Last night before i made booking, i counted several times comparing these four websites, i know which i was booking.
Would i buy room which more expensive and without breakfast???
i wrote a letter to Agoda asking them to make amend,
They said they couldn't and insist that i made the more expensive booking and without breakfast. it is also non refundable, they won't change a thing!!!
i am so so dissapointed :(
Please don't cheat me, Agoda!!!
We used agoda for the first time, booking our entire Laos trip of 2 weeks. The site is well organized, but when you try to change anything, suddenly the rules change and everything is non-refundable and won't allow any changes. I would never use them again. They do not even complete the follow-up when you contact them to ask for help.
Their website listings are misleading. When you go to book, it says "FREE CANCELLATION!", so you assume that's what you get. NO, when you click through to the small print, they have all kinds of restrictions and ways to keep your money. Buyer beware, this is not a consumer friendly site.
Agoda did help me change my reservations, despite policies that are very consumer un-friendly, so I have to at least give them that. So, on follow-up, I have to change and say that they do follow up. But, I still say to save yourself the headache and either book directly or go with a booking site that is more consumer friendly. If you end up making any change in your plans, agoda will be very expensive and cost you a lot of $$$ in non-refundable money. Stay away from Agoda. Their fees are excessive and their change policies are horrible.
When it came to refunding the difference between the suite that we were downgraded from (due to double booking) we were overcharged for the downgrade. Twice I pointed this out to Agoda via email and they never even bothered to respond.
This was just one Agoda experience on our recent trip of SEAsia.
Four of the seven or so hotels that we stayed in, had no record of our booking.
I'm also not sure how they award Stars to the hotels. We stayed at a Hotel in Bangkok that Agoda rated a four star and it didnt even deserve two stars. People should read the reviews rather than take note of the stars - most of the reviews for said hotel were very poor, but Agoda still gives them four stars.
This is an update to the previous review (see below).....I am leaving my first review here because what happened, happened and I still think that it is very important to read the fine print on Agoda's website and read your confirmation very carefully. This ordeal has taken up hours of my time BUT I am happy to report that I was contacted by Agoda's "customer satisfaction department" and they have resolved the issue that I had in a VERY courteous and amicable fashion. I really appreciate the integrity with which my complaint has been handled. I was surprised to get such a good response after my initial dealings with the company....but I'm pleased to have this turn into a positive experience. I have changed my rating to 4 stars...Thank you Agoda - I will use your website in the future!
If I could give Agoda.com MINUS stars I would. I think that this website is deliberately misleading. It's very strange to me that this is one of very few negative reviews on Trustpilot because there are terrible reviews all over the internet about this company....I wish I'd read them before I made a booking with them. We were suckered in by their obtuse representation. Their site is made to look like you're getting a good deal with "special rates" replacing original prices that are ruled out with wording like "only one left!" When I thought I was booking the HONEYMOON SUITE at a reasonable rate....I received a booking confirmation that is for ONE person. Give me a break....the Honeymoon Suite! Had I booked the exact room directly through the Hotel's website, I would have gotten a better deal!! It also states at the TOP of their page....RATES PER ROOM! Why on earth would a Honeymoon Suite have a maximum capacity of ONE....it makes no sense! I then called their 24/7 customer service and after being on hold for a very long time, a very defensive and rude woman could not respond to any of my questions and was not willing to change our booking to something closer to our budget and eventually PUT THE PHONE DOWN ON ME! They will not allow me to cancel the booking within 45 days of the booking and they are not willing to help me....so I am forced to go directly to the hotel and let them know of this company's terrible customer service. PLEASE beware of making a booking on Agoda....and read all the fine print very carefully. I DO NOT think they are in the business of helping people get great hospitality deals! BUYER BEWARE! They are apparently a subsidiary of Priceline, operated out of Singapore!
