I ordered a Taylor left-handed 12-string acoustic, ordering via Andertons' website in mid-July this year.
I'd previously purchased another guitar from Andertons a year or two back and had no problems in receiving it, so was confident there should be no worries in ordering again.
The guitar was listed as not being in stock (fine) and normally being available within one to two weeks (again, fine). I paid a £600 deposit with the rest to be paid on finance and confirmed the order.
Soon after, I received an email from Andertons stating my guitar would arrive with them in about eight weeks. This was a disappointment as it was around six weeks later than the website stated, but with not a lot I could do, I accepted the stated wait with good grace.
Unfortunately, the guitar did not arrive with Andertons in about eight weeks. It arrived with them in about 12 weeks (the second week in October). I have to admit I am very disappointed to have waited so long on the basis of an expected two weeks wait.
After the initial email stating about eight weeks; the progress of my guitar's arrival (other than the final despatch email) was always initiated by me via emailing Andertons. It would have been nice to have received an unprompted communication from them informing me what was happening, but this was not to be. In fairness, my emails were always quickly and politely responded to, but that really isn't the point.
I know Andertons sell some pretty expensive guitars, so perhaps £1500 is relatively small fry to them to pay for one, but to me, £1500 is a hell of a lot a money and a very special purchase to make. I am sorry to say I didn't feel remotely special as one of their customers during the wait for my guitar to be sent to me.
Finally, I received a despatch email from Andertons. They used City Link as couriers. On the day of delivery I got back home to find a City Link card posted through the door. The card was not properly completed, with no indication if the guitar had been left with a neighbour or had been returned to their depot for re-delivery or collection.
I was livid and after much automated menu pressing via City Link's 'customer service' number was told by an off-hand advisor that they were sorry the driver hadn't filled out the card, but I could collect the guitar from their depot that evening. I told her not to worry, it was only a £1500 guitar, so not knowing where it was (other than not with me) when I got home was no problem!!
Have to say, I am delighted with the guitar, but feel that is more Taylor's input rather than anything Andertons did as part of the process.
I have made a further small order for a capo and a plectrum to make use of reward type points given to me as part of my guitar purchase, but other than that, will not be using Andertons again.
I follow the company through a Youtube channel : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCOIcdii1bQmfSPHeNNw4Qw
Bunch of cool and funny guys to watch.
I wanted a multi effects unit for me to try out different sounds to decide what is my type of sound / effects.
They were fast to dispatch and very prompt at informing me of the status of my order. It took a few days since I ordered on a friday, but it arrived on the next monday. So quite fast in all things considered.
Conclusion: Will be going back to these guys for more things, if my wallet allows me of course. Top stuff guys! Keep doing what you do best!
To be honest.... I usually order my stuff from DV or Thomann and this is the very first time that I have used Andertons....... DV never seemed to have the particular item in stock ( I checked their website every other day for over a month ) and Thomann were way too expensive for the very same item ... Andertons had 10 in stock and offered next day delivery ... I duly ordered on-line using Pay Pal and the UPS truck turned up at my house at 11. 45 am the next day.....
Perfect .... I will definitely be using these guys again..
I don't usually write reviews but this came up on a google search and, having been a customer for 5+ years, I felt I should support the store. I have bought bass guitars, amps, cabs, keyboards and PA kit over the years.
Not the cheapest (although there is a price match promise) but sometimes they buy in bulk deals with good discounts and usually have some manufacturer promotions running. However, what you get with Andertons is an amazing customer experience - wonderful range, all the new kit, plenty of advice and opportunity to demo equipment until you are ready to buy .... you can spend all day in there with no pressure and as as result most people don't begrudge paying list price for this service. I often pop in with my Son and refine my wish list!
If there is - and sometimes there is - a problem, these guys will do everything they can sort you out. The guys are musicians and work with you to get you where you want to be. I once came across one of the owners on the shop floor giving advice and helping out - on one occasion when I was buying a whole new PA rig he even threw in a discount as I was a genuine customer and not just a browser.
Even though I work in .com land, these guys provide a very good rational to get off the computer and get into store ( even though you can order online or click and collect).
They are to music equipment what John Lewis is to general retailing - buy with confidence and have fun spending your cash.
The online ordering was simple and worked well but, unfortunately, when I ordered the item I was after, they later realised that the stock had been marked incorrectly in the warehouse so couldn't supply me with what I was after.
They were professional at handling this mistake though with a prompt personal email, which gave detail about the expected delivery time of new stock coming in, and issued a refund immediately when I confirmed that I did not want to wait for the stock to arrive.
Shame it didn't work out but they were good enough to not leave me feeling bitter.
Bought an american fender deluxe, and the alan key supplied didnt fit into the guitar. Could they replace it with another one from one of the other fenders? nope... they advised me to spend more money on an over inflated multi alan key device from their stores.... Not impressed.
This was a while ago, maybe its better now? I had bought a ton of stuff form here until that point (many thousands of pounds) since then i have bought nothing from there bar a string or two if im really desperate.
I was in a real jam after being messed about by some other companies when trying to purchase my item, Antertons were really friendly and helpful, they made the whole process simple and straight forward. I will definitely be using them again and recommend them to everyone ( especially if 'like me' you have a distrust of online shopping ) A very up front and genuine company.
I purchased an Epiphone Dot, the build quality is very good on a guitar of this price, pickups good although the guitar does have a tendancy to feed back at high volume, but having said that I have a Tele fitted with PAF humbuckers which does the same. The only criticism I have with the guitar is a) the jack socket fell to bits after only a few uses, and is a bit awkward to refit, but a few drops of super glue on threads seems to have cured the problem. Let me say that had I contacted Andertons I have no doubt they would have replaced the guitar with no hassel, it was my choice to fix it myself. The second and most important thing was the action on the guitar was too high for me. when I lowered the bridge there was string rattling and choking when bending strings. I took the guitar to a luthier called Les Tones ( if you live in the north east this guy is top notch) and he dressed the frets and re -cut the nut and the differnce was unbelievable, the guitar now plays as good as any of the others I have, and that includes my PRS which cost about ten times what I paid for the Epiphone. So grab your self a bargain it is worth spending a few quid to have the neck set up and you will have yourself a good guitar.
Firstly they stock pretty much everything that a guitarist or drummer could ever want, with an ever increasing list of brands. They're also very helpful, both in email/phone conversations and in their actual store.
I've spent a fair bit with them over the years and they never seem to falter. Their loyalty card system is also pretty nice, you could easily rack up enough points for freebies if your a pro musician.
They've also started doing fairly informative reviews on YouTube. I know they're doing it to generate sales, but they do it with a fairly subtle touch.
As a keen amateur guitarist with hopes of one day filling the Albert hall, I have developed an unhealthy addiction to collecting guitars. Andertons are a company that carries a very competitively priced range and from my very first call for advice to several expensive purchases online, I have nothing but praise to bestow on the staff's level of patience and willingness to guide over the phone. I encountered one minor gripe with a guitar (manufcturing issue) and a replacement was sent and delivered the following day and the other guitar collected for return, brilliant.
The company really prides itself on helping customers and they are a credit to the music retailing sector. I have put several product reviews on their site and you get awarded loyalty points which are cash discounts on purchases, great! If you need instruments, accessories, effects or anything for the band, give Andertons a call.
I was looking for a Marshall AS100D Acoustic Amp and had some very fishy service from the music equipment retailer I usually use (If you know what I mean). I also had "bait and switch" experiences from some of the other retailers I called whereby new stock was claimed on web-sites that then turned out to be ex-showroom stock which was "only out of the box for a day or two - honest". Yeah right, more probably a month or two and possibly pounded at full volume by every aspiring AC/DC fan who walked in the shop. It only takes a second to damage a speaker so I wasn't too happy to have my time wasted by these "bait and switch" merchants.
Andertons was a breath of fresh air and I was treated with respect as a customer from the start. The man with whom I spoke on the phone gave me his name without being asked. I called on a Friday morning at about 11 am and when I told him I needed next day Saturday delivery he told me that it wasn't a problem and that they had 3 units (as stated on the website). He said he'd check out which stores the units were at and call me back within 15 minutes. He called me back in 5 minutes took my credit card details and said he'd email me as soon as the shipping had been arranged.
I checked my email about 10 minutes later and found confirmation of the order. I also went to their website and sure enough the stock level on the product page had dropped to "2".
I had another email about half an hour after that with a UPS tracking number on it and advice to the effect that tracking would be active at about 8 o'clock that evening when the package had been picked up from Andertons and delivered to the UPS warehouse.
Sure enough I clicked on the tracking link just after 8 and it was logged as having arrived. I looked at the tracking info later that evening and early the next morning and every stage of the route was logged so I knew exactly where it was. A UPS man was at my door shortly after 9 o'clock on Saturday morning and I plugged in the amp and was playing guitar through it a few minutes after that.
Andertons had taken 22 hours to get the amp to me on a Saturday! If I had to describe the service in a few words I'd call it "An American standard of service in the UK".
I look forward to using Andertons for all my future gear purchases.
I’ve ordered a few items from Andertons. Order on a weekday Mon to Thurs and they arrive with no fuss the next day. Prices are competitive with other online music retailers. In-fact, I ordered a Yamaha drum throne, even with postage, it was cheaper than other online stores. I will certainly use again in the future.
I've had a few items from andertons over the years and the service has always been very good.
In the one instance i had an issue where i wasn't happy with the quality of a product they accepted the return and allowed me to exchange the goods for something else.
Delivery has always been prompt and communication very good.
