We had a great time with our car in Scotland. Driving on the wrong side of the road was not a problem. However, the 5 speed gearshift with my left hand was a challenge..
In USA, gear shift is on the right. I kept missing 1st and would try to start out in third. Jerk, jerk, jerk. Shifting to any gear was a crapshoot! Get an automatic if you are driving on the one land roads and narrow village streets. Also, the brakes really grabbed. Almost put my wife thru the windshield! Good experience!
I rented from Auto Europe and everything was simple and fast. The quality of the car was great.! I'd use them again and highly recommend!
The car was supposed to hold 7 people plus luggage. It barely held 5 plus luggage. We had to hire a van to pick up our family from the airport in Naples, only use the car for local trips around Sorrento without luggage, turn the car in early and hire another van to transport us all back to Rome. And then got charged a drop charge on top of all that. A total rip -off!!!!
This is the second time I have used them in two years and I have been very happy with the company. Easy airport access and great cars. I will definitely use them again!
Making my reservation and printing my confirmation was simple. I picked the car up in Caen, France at the train station. The car was not clean and the rental agency did not have any maps. The return was easy. I would do it again
Hi -
This was our third time renting a vehicle with Auto Europe - each time a different country and area. We have had 3 very good experiences. This time in Madrid, the car was exactly what we asked for and ready to go in great condition. Time spent in the office, both at pick-up and drop-off, is minimal. Locations are handy. All perfect. The guys on the reservation line are very helpful and all costs are outlined clearly. I would highly recommend Auto Europe!
We have used Auto Europe for our European car rental for a number of years
now and have been extremely pleased with they service.
I would recommend them for your next rental.
We experienced only one hiccup on arrival at Rome airport-our prepaid voucher had AutoEurope at the top,and when you first enter the car rental area there is an AutoEurope desk. (same color/logo, as on our voucher). We stood in line here for 20 minutes only to learn that we were in the wrong place and we had to go around a corner (not visible from where we were standing) to the Europcar desk to get our car- once there, everything was very professional and speedy. The car was clean, worked well and we dropped it off in Venice at a garage after hours. We did call ahead to get clear instructions to how to handle this as the papers we had did not have much detail. We have not received our final bill yet, but trust everything will be ion order- a 25euro fee for the drop after hours.
I was a little worried not knowing what to expect driving as a foreigner but everything worked out great. Upon getting the car, the guy was great and gave me good advice and directions and sent me on my way. The car was nice and I had no problems with it. I would rent from this company again.
I would be happy to use Auto Europe again.
Rented from Avis in Lisbon. Agent extremely patient and helpful with good English. Some confusion re use if automatic billing for toll roads. Not clear that only some entrances are suitable for automatic device which is further compounded by inability to read Portugese signs. This should be clarified.
Road maps not part of service since introduction of GPS. Road maps are extremely helpful and obviate the language barrier. Recommend they should be included, especially given cost of rental.
Drop off at airport best and most seamless anywhere.
I have been using Auto Europe for several years and recommend them to every client. Their customer service and prices are always the same---- EXCELLENT, while any problems are dealt with in an efficient, professional manner. When I'm traveling to Europe, I only call one company---- Auto Europe!
All in all, the car and the experience was positive. Unfortunately getting a car overseas is confusing at best, mostly because of language challenges, even if you think you know the language of the country. We requested a GPS when we picked up the car, first the thing was not 'updated' and then the charger for the car was missing a piece so when we needed to use it (and we were not near the airport) we couldn't charge it, so obviously couldn't use it.
Great car, VW Golf, great mileage! Would definitely rent from them again, being a bit more 'aware'.
We had a lot of fun driving the GTI we rented. Rate was fair, car was in excellent condition, good customer service. Awesome!
After traveling for many hours, waiting almost 1 hr in line for a prepaid car is NOT pleasant.
fast, clear, internet reservation, quick airport pick-up, fast key return, didn't frown about minor scrapes on bumper, there's no other car rent Cy to cater like this to American tourists in europe.
The people in Germany were so accommodating and we loved our car.
I have used Auto Europe several times and it has always been a good experience. Very recommendable because it's reliable and no-nonsense (i.e. not trying to sell insurance you don't need). Pick-up and drop-off locations couldn't have been more convenient.
They (hertz Europe) actually coordinating their opening hours with the TGV train schedule, so if you get there late, they will still be open. The woman at the counter had everything ready for us. Rates are ok, would book with them again.
The gas fill-up is a bit of a scam (everywhere, really) There were no gas stations anywhere near the rental return, so we couldn't fill the tank before returning. The fee to fill the tank was pretty high...you have no choice, unless you drive into Avignon and looking for a gas station. Who has time for that?
We recently booked car rental in Barcelona Spain through Auto Europe US. I feel we got a very good rate on the car rental and received excellent service from Auto Europe representatives the two times we called with questions. Both of the reps. I spoke with did an excellent job answering my questions and even volunteered additional useful information. I will definitely consider booking future travel services through Auto Europe!
I would however warn anyone thinking of using Dollar/Hertz/Thrifty (they seem to be one in the same) at Barcelona airport to think again. We received very rude service here, no fault of Auto Europe though.
I have rented from Auto Europe countless times, in several European countries. It is always a simple and straightforward process, and I never have had any problems. Though we had a car that we had never heard of this time (a Spanish SEAT), it performed admirably, nimbly zipping up and down the mountains in Switzerland. And in our six days of extensive driving, it only used a 1/4 of a tank of diesel. Couldn't recommend Auto Europe more highly.
All was OK -- the rental was subleased to Hertz. There was a 49 Euro hidden fee (not so hidden, but not in the 'total price') - that was listed on the voucher I took to hertz. Hertz also charges a fortune for GPS. It would have been cheaper if I rented directly from one of the majors.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta beats the hell out of the Opel, etc. . .
I have never experienced such helpful rental car agent as the one at Cologne train station in Germany. Gave me free GPS and sent a man with us to find the car and make sure I understood how to use everything. Best rental car experience I have ever had.
Picked up our car at the Rotterdam airport. The car was ready for pick-up and the agent was very helpful. Procedures for pick-up and return were simple and easy to follow. The car was clean, tank was full and we were promptly on our way. Return was on a Sunday and no agent was on duty. Drop-off was pretty much on an honor system.
In Palma de Mallorca we rented a car that was pre-paid in full. It was clearly shown as everything included on my paperwork. Including taxes, additional fees ect.
It showed me picking up the car at 1:30pm on my paperwork.
When I got to the rental agency to pick up my car I was told that since the car was being picked up between 1 and 4 pm that there was an additional charge that ran even more then the cost of the car was being rented for.
I showed it clearly said on my paperwork that it showed all fees included and picking up at 1:30 pm. He said I don't care.
Terrible !!!
Our experience with Autoeurope was great. We prepaid so there was no hassle in picking up or dropping off the car. Loved driving the Tuscan hills with the entirely Italian Fiat 500.
The Ford van I rented had a diesel engine and a six-speed manual transmission. I drove it for two weeks, putting about 3200 kilometers (2000 miles) on it. I have no complaints about the car; picking it up at the Florence, Italy airport was easy, and it served me and my traveling companions well. It was big enough to carry six adults and their suitcases all over Tuscany and Umbria. The personnel at the airport were friendly and efficient. I plan on renting from Auto Europe again. One cautionary note: dropping the car off at the airport was not easy, even though I speak Italian fluently, having lived in Italy for seven years. There is a distinct lack of signage from the airport to the car rental depot; this is not Auto Europe's fault however.
The invoice told me to pick up at the train station. Hertz does not even have a location at the train station. I ended up walking about .5 miles to a nearby hotel where the hertz desk was located. I arrived to find out that auto europe had not sent the reservation to hertz. i was able to get on the phone with auto europe thank goodness and get the issue resolved within 30-45 minutes. The car was nice and we received a free upgrade.
Auto Europe made our car rental easy and painless. Very plain and simple, they had our car ready when we arrived, brand new Mercedes, not expecting that, but it was great. I will for sure use them again. Thanks Auto Europe.
Best rental car experience ever.
Even though the rental car pickup and return at Edinburgh Airport is 1/2 mile from the terminal, every thing went smoothly. Return was particularly good with carts available for luggage.
Reserving on line was simple. The glitch is always in whether there will be the correct car when you arrive. Avis was the actual service and I suppose we were lucky that at the next window there was a very ugly customer. We needed an automatic and a car larger enough for four adults and their luggage and none were available. We were calm, polite and firm and the agent pulled some strings and got a returning car prepped for us. The other fellow was still inside berating the poor agent as we drove off. So, if there were some way to really reserve the car you pay for this would be a 5-star review!
Liked the car and persons in Marseille. Really did not like the lack of any maps to show how to get to the airport to return the car.
I ended up with a Hertz car. Hertz was extremely easy to work with and did not try to sell me all the add on products and insurances which I appreciate very much. The whole process was quick, easy, and I received a very favorable price. Thank you Auto Europe.
This was a cheap booking, and they delivered exactly what was requested: a manual economy car in UK. However, upon arrival, I needed a GPS device which was another 11 pounds/day. They also tried to upgrade and sell additional insurance. I wish rental agencies would be more forthright and clearer about needs.
We got the exact car we wanted and it was new and in perfect condition. The whole rental process was easy and they had the best price of all the companies I checked.
Check in was smooth and the car we reserved was the one we received.
We enjoyed the car for two weeks with no issues.
Check in was smooth and easy
The only negative throughout the whole process was the long line at the counter at Madrid airport. Other than that I would rate the entire rental experience as excellent. The staff were polite and helpful and the car was in good condition.
