Sold Fast

I never write reviews so here goes.

I sold my 2008 Golf on AutoTrader.co.uk i can't understand some of these reviews as i've sold two cars on AutoTrader.co.uk and they have both gone in with in a week! I was honestly amazed as there must have been hundreds of 2008 Golfs on there, i wasn't stupid with me pricing and just took some good pics. I don't know another place to sell a car on the net, Ebay and Gumtree didn't work for me.

Complete ripoff and waste of time for selling a car

I listed my car on Autotrader with the most expensive listing option, spending almost £60 in the hopes of getting it sold quickly. To my disappointment I didn't receive a single call or enquiry about the car in the entire month the ad was up! Supposedly the ad got 370 views or so, but in the end I received no enquiries or calls whatsoever, not 1 potential buyer.

It seems like Autotrader only gets traffic from people looking to sell cars, not buy them. I already had the car listed well below value in the first place, but after it was getting no interest I started dropping the price ridiculously low. Despite eventually dropping to low rock bottom prices it made no difference and I still received ZERO CALLS or emails about the car. I think I could have put the price to £25 and it still wouldn't have sold...

Do not waste your time trying to sell your car here, you will only burn money on the expensive ad and are most likely receive no interest whatsoever from any actual buyers! This site is practically a scam, I wish I had found out from others reviews how bad it is before I wasted my money.

Auto Trader do not answer their emails

I've writtten to Auto Trader twice now (March 2014) both with legitimate questions. One was reporting an error on their website which made a selection button unusable and the second time asking for help regarding our advert. They did not even have the courtesy to reply, if just to say they couldn't help. Because our second question has not been addressed, our advert is now not being seen as it should. This is a serious flaw and will greatly reduce our chance of selling our motorhome. As Trustpilot will send this review to Auto Trader's email address it's likely they won't answer it! We will not use them again.

Potentially expensive mistake

I opted to get a telesafe telephone number when placing an advert for my Land Rover and did not include my email address in order to limit the number of scam contacts. I made the mistake of not checking the telesafe number they provided in the advert. Several days later I received an email saying how many views the advert had produced but I was curious why despite a very competitive price I had received no calls. I checked the number and it went straight to a BT announcement! If you use a telesafe number makes sure it connects to your phone number.

By this time my option of selling to "we buy any car" was about to run out and so I had to take the difficult decision of selling the car well below what someone might have paid for it. For all I know this mistake by auto trader has cost me a few thousand pounds.

To make matters worse I contacted customer services to highlight the problem and was told someone would call back. Two days later, no phone call and the advert is still live. I phoned again and they agreed to a refund and said they would remove the advert. Two days later I get the refund but they leave the advert and dodgy phone number live.

Terrible Customer Service - Very Poor Advert Response

Upgraded to most expensive option (£56) to highlight my ad only to find this is a complete con and my ad appears exactly the same as the cheapest option!

Sent email asking for explanation to customer support - NO REPLY!!!
Followed up with more emails - NO REPLIES to any!!

Disgusted - will never use again! Avoid using at all costs unless you want to throw money away and don't want to sell your car!

Ripoff

Dont waste your time contacted daily by scammers and phishing sites that autotrder don,t seem to be dealing with.
Some go under the autotrder name so could be caught out quite easily. Use gumtree or ebay at least you know where you stand !

Okay platform for finding a new car

Good for identifying a new car, but could do with a few more parameters for filtering like on Motors.co.uk. i.e. CO2 g/km, MPG, Tax price, Leather Seats, Boot dimensions, number plate, and no. of former owners etc. Basically, there needs to be more information on each car instead of minimal info where dodgy dealers can hide certain aspects. Found this class A4 Cabriolet but until I did an external check on it, I had no idea it had 6 former owners! I wasn't touching it. AutoTrader should do something for people with less initiative than myself so they don't end up getting stung!

Autotrader is not reliable

I tried to place a review of my Audi on Autotrader several times. Nothing in it was contentious. However, although I have had no reason from Autotrader my review was not posted. I think they only post glowing reviews. The fuel consumption figures quoted are also highly misleading for my Audi.

auto trader are a ripoff

auto trader are far to expensive you do not get enough calls to warrant the high pricesthat the charge since they dropped the magazine they are still charging the same amount per advert. you are better off using gumtree or ebay, exchange and mart you will still get the same response

Poor - full of scammers

I paid £36 to advertise my car on Autotrader for two weeks. In less than that time I've had eight scammers contact me - thankfully my husband has the sense to google all names and most of them are known scams! Autotrader are not interested in protecting their customers against this despite only requiring a relative uncomplicaticated IT change! I now don't trust anyone that contacts me so still have my car! Will NEVER NEVER use again!

BE VERU CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we brought a car for our daughter via our auto trader - my daughter is 17 and had just passed her test - we do not know a lot about cars but the man seemed very honest, my daughter went with him for a test drive - we agreed on the sale and went over the next day to collect the car Monday 24th May 2013 - the next day my daughter broke down on a dual carriageway, she had to be towed to our garage - she was very scared! The car needed a new engine as the cooliant either didn't have a lid on or it was not put on properly, we had to buy a new engine at a cost of over £400 as the cooliant had emptied and messed up the engine, the trader on here blaimed us, said we must have fiddled with it - we didn't! no come back at all - auto trader said they would help if needed and suggested we speak to trader standards which I did, but unless you want to take it to court (I don't) you don't have a leg to stand on, I naively thought that this sight was run more like e-bay and at least you had some back up and could grade sellers - I hope no one buys a car of this man again or hopefully no one will be as scared as my daughter! wont buy a car like this ever again!!!

FALSE ADVERTISING

I went and had a look on autotrader's website. Was looking for a cheap car and I came accross a Volvo S40 2009 for R12,390. I Queried and they only said, sorry, that's not the price. According to customer rights, THE PRICE YOU SEE IS THE PRICE YOU PAY. Thanks for not so grate service. http://www.autotrader.co.za/mobile/stock-item-id/8aa129723ecb2736013ed51cb22a0338/advert?serverUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autotrader.co.za&channelname=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autotrader.co.za%2Fmobile&keywordsExample=e.g.+Silver+Audi+A3&keywords=&make=&model=&minimumregistrationyear=&maximumregistrationyear=&carandcommercialminimumpricezar=10000&carandcommercialmaximumpricezar=24999&radius=&minimummileage=&maximummileage=&bodytype=&sellertype=&locationName=Harrismith&latitude=-28.27276&longitude=29.12946&postcode=&mobileSearchButton=Search+cars+%E2%80%BA&linkPosition=FullPageAdvert&id=8aa129723ecb2736013ed51cb22a0338&primaryTelephoneNumber=0319400670

Failed sale of moped

I advertised my moped for a mere 1,800 pounds on AT (as new) for 30 quid and received a grand total of around 6 mails in response, four of which were scam emails. I pasted AT respondee names and text into Google and it quickly became apparent that these were established scam email names and scam wordings which have been going on for some time now (for some years in some cases). I forwarded said emails to AT as suggested (no response) and am extremely disappointed to learn that AT have no system of screening in place that picks up such obvious scams emails (obvious to me at least) which run the risk of losing many susceptible customers money. Fortunately - as an ex banker - I can spot a scam but I suspect many AT customers cannot and I do feel that AT should be doing something (anything!) to prevent such scam emails being received by their customers (such as myself) who paid them a healthy 30 pds to receive such lax service which exposes them to genuine risk of loss.

Worst Possible Customer Service

I had felt the need to complain to the company via email, with regards the placement of my advert in the magazine.

Did not have the courtesy to respond to my complaint. It was a waste of money approx £50 for 3 weeks web - 2 weeks magazine, car was for sale below book value, not one call. I also placed it on other free car websites and got calls email and calls from them, so look around at alternatives people!
