Overall a very good experience, but one guide that wasn't very pleasant

We enjoyed the tours and made the most of the hop-on-hop-off bus, which goes near many of London's fabulous sites. The tour guides were all very good, with the exception of one cranky male, who publicly scolded us over the speaker system for changing seats while the bus was moving, and then scolded us again in case the first time wasn't enough. It would have been nice if he had simply addressed us personally as we passed him, instead of waiting for us to pass him and then announcing it over the speaker.

The bus tour is a MUST on Day 1.

We booked the 24-hour Big Bus ticket for the first full day of our trip to London. We had heard it was a great way to see the city and with being tired from the travel and needing a layout of the land, we figured first day was the way to go. Perfect! It's the perfect thing to do to get a feel for all there is to see/do while getting a very good sense for the layout of the city (cities). From there its easy to decide what you might want to zoom in on on other days. I think we only hopped off twice, we managed the whole route on day 1. THe kids loved it! THey were in the front row seats on the top deck which is an event in its own right. We live in a rural town so city navigating in London from atop a bus is very exciting. If you think you will get off more than twice, you should consider the 48 hour tour. We started using the city buses (red double deckers) after that as well the tube and got around very smoothly. This was definitely worth it and we highly recommend it for any day, but especially day 1 of your trip. We also bought the London Eye form the Big Bus company and would up doing that near the end of our week there. It was very anticlimactic after having seen the city up close. I don't think I'd recommend that if you are short on time.

It could have been wonderful

We experienced the bus ride in a split way- one tour we enjoyed the perfect audio-guidance in German; one tour we suffered under the not understandable noices which the guide produced into his technical miserable mic. There were no alternatives available

Great value & fun day out

I booked online in advance & BigBus Tours was the cheapest. Plus the free use of the river ferry was a great addition & meant we got to do everything in one day. The buses were really regular - we didn't wait long at all. Tour guide was funny and friendly. Would highly recommend.

A great way to see the highlights of London

10 years ago we did a similar tour of London and this time we were travelling with friends who were first time visitors. We only had limited time so felt this was a good way to introduce our friends to the sites of the city. The commentary both personal and recorded is a bonus. We bought the 48 hour pass which enabled us on day 1 to stay on bus for the whole Red route and then decide where to get off and explore further. Day 2 we did the walking tour of Changing of the Guard and it was excellent . What made it excellent was the guide, his knowledge and personality ensured we had an informative and enjoyable tour despite the adverse weather conditions. Loved the fact that included in the purchase price was not only the bus tour but the walking tour and river cruise. Being able to purchase tickets to other attractions at a discount was also fantastic,
We would certainly recommend the Big Bus Tours to anyone travelling to London especially for the first time.

Lack of buses

Whilst the initial journey/tour was okay, the hop on/off wasn't so smooth and we ended up waiting 50 minutes at one stop along with 20 other people for a bus to arrive. As a result we didn't get to see all we wanted. When I called to see where the bus was they didn't seem interested!!!

Not the best way to see the sights of London

If going to London again I wouldn't use this company again. After booking online it took half an hr for operator to issue tickets. It's very easy to get lost on the red routes/blue routes. Staff at stops had us sitting inside a bus going round in circles for hr in the heat we had between us 4 children as we kept being told to get on the wrong buses. Tube would be a lot quicker if you were going for a weekend sightseeing. Also on ALL the buses we went on there was only one tour operator explaining the sights etc. not all it says on line or in brochure. Very disappointed.

Was a worthwhile tour

We boarded the blue tour and the red tour. The red tour with the live commentary is much better. Our bus was involved in an accident with a sign post so we all had to get off the bus to wait for another one. It was a good half hour wait for the next bus that continued on the trip, which was a drag waiting as we had our day planned out to accommodate certain sites. Unfortunately it put us behind. Sometimes it was hard to hear some of the commentary as it could have been turned up in the louder areas. It was still a good tour and would recommend it for anyone new to the city of London.

Got worst service during end of the day

I've booked with Big bus tours on 23 May 2013 with our family and friends of 9 people. All were fine for the whole day. got really good service, helpful staff. During end of the day we all boarded on the bus from Tower Bridge. We are supposed to get down at Victoria station to catch for train towards croydon. Our bus driver dint stop in Victoria station, same happened to couple of other passengers who are tried to get down... bus dint stopped anywhere, finally they stopped at Marble arch and we asked the bus driver for nearest underground station, he refused to answer our questions and asked us to get down and ask the big bus staff at the stop. And ground staff at marble arch seems to be so busy and dint want to listen to us and we waited for 10 minutes for them to turn to us and they redirected us to the nearest underground station. It was terrible experience for us with the kids in the cold weather. I will never consider big bus for my next trip.

Bitterly disappointed with the whole experience

We picked up the bus (eventually) at Baker Street. I took my 7 year old son to London for the day and thought the best way for him to see all the sites would be on an open top bus tour. I didn't bargain for having to wait 1 hour 20 mins for the first 'red route' bus to arrive, this despite being told there would be a bus every 15 mins, and being assured on 5 occasions that there was one on its way.

Do NOT go on these buses in bad weather!

If it was sunny it would have been ok. Us it was rainy so we had to sit downstairs, where everything rattled, the windows fogged up and we couldn't hear or see a thing. We abandoned after an hour. The other bus tours buses look much newer.

Best way to sightsee with kids!!

We bought Big Bus Tours tickets as an after thought. Kids loved it and said it was best part of weekend break. Great way to travel and see the sights, especially when kids start to get tired and you want to avoid the crowds on Tube. Guides were funny and boat trip was an added bonus. Def recommend!

Not a good start which spoilt the day

I booked the 24 hour open top bus tour as a treat for the kids during our trip to London.
After researching all about this I chose to go with the big bus tour company because very competitive on price if pre booked.
In total on the day there was 4 kids aged from 7 to 15 and me. Unfortunately the weather was against us and was wet.
we decided to join the tour at Westminster where we found the inspector for the company.
To be honest we wasn't welcomed very warmingly and were just told us we had to wait for the next bus as he needed to let that one go.
the inspector asked if we wanted to go on the tour where I explained we had pre booked.
He asked for the voucher and told us we would need to be on a red one for English.
To cut along story short the inspector didnt really have a clue what to do. Couldnt get the ticket to scan and ended up ringing up head office.
He then dropped the handheld unit and could not get the tickets to print.
He let several buses go because of this leaving us out in the cold and wet without explaining anything.
he then said that we would have to walk to the next stop because his machine wasn't working properly. Dropping it on the floor could be a reason why.
45 minutes after arriving at the stop we finally boarded the bus.
We were all ready cheesed off by this time we didn't enjoy the tour.
On reflection if we hadnt had got off to a bad start the tour would have been good and very informative.
I can honestly say though that during our time waiting at the stop we only saw one tour bus from there rival the original bus company with big bys tours being more frequent.
I was going to book the 48 hour trip for our trip in august but may not now because of our experience.

Fantastic overview for my foreign visitors and great fun !

I had a great time, gulped at the price for three of us, but really the only way to give my 21 year old French student a complete taste of London and give him the confidence to go on his own next time. It proved to him the "London" of real interest isn't such a huge space and it's hard to get lost. Loved the boat trip, Simon gave us a hoot of a commentary and it dropped up right back at Waterloo Pier where we had started at 0830 that same morning. Great fun, thoroughly recommended. Don't forget to book on line and get discount rather than on the actual day and pay full whack.

Fabulous!!

I would definately recommend Bigbustours. The service was fantastic, with buses all the time and the commentators on board were exceptional, with their knowledge being second to none. I would certainly recommend this as being the best way to explore London, especially during the fine weather. It was also good value for money, with a cruise on the Thames included. Again the commentators on the cruise were witty, and their knowledge of the surrounding area and history of London, was commendable. We also stopped off in Greenwich on the cruise which is well worth a visit. There are also walks included in the price of the bus tickets, but unfortunately time did not allow for us to uitilise this as well.

Tour bus

As much as I do understand health and safety regulations needs to be follow by not just the bus employees, but also the customer, I was so shocked at the rudeness of the tour guide that I left the bus soon after.

Great way to see the city!

The hardest part was to get started.

Fortunately I did print out the order form and didn't trust the SMS you sent me, As your representative couldnt read it from my phone.
We did struggle to find the first bus stop. After that we had a good day sightseeing in London.

Lack of attention to detail nearly spoilt the experience....

We had the best day in london on the big bus tour, the only thing that really let it down was the fact that it was raining so hard and the buses dont have windscreen wipers for the massive window at the front, upstairs. The views were marred by pouring rain and the kids got bored and head aches from trying to see through the rain running down the window!! is such a small thing that i cant believe it hasnt been brought up before.....tell the bus builders....this is England...it rains (alot).

Thats it, nothing else bad about the whole experience, except maybe the boat men should refrain from giving commentaries down the river and then hold a bucket for people to feel obliged to pay them for it!! It wasnt asked for and a big bucket under your nose as you're trying to get off the boat is a little rude to say the least....

Other than that, would defo come back and do it all again when the kids are bit bigger, defo think we got value for money, but do something about windscreen wipers for the top covered decks?

Knowing London via Bigbustour.

This is my family's first time being in London and taking Bigbustour was the right choice. We were introduced to all significant places in London through this tour. This introductory way allowed us to explore London better the next few days and it really saved the time in the sense that you could really focus where you wanted to go.

Excellent value for money

I would highly recommend bigbus tours. We purchased a 48 hour family pass which was excellent value. The buses are very frequent and there's plenty of room on the buses. We went on the Bank Holiday weekend and expected long queues at the buses but we were very surprised as there was none as there was plenty of tour buses in operation. The buses take you to all the main tourist sites and you can just hop off, hop on at any stop. The staff are very helpful and are happy to deal with any queries you have.

Mixed feelings

Unfortunately, my experience wasn't that great this time with BigBus tours.

I took the BigBus first in 2011 on my first visit to London and I loved it. I got a 24 h ticket and used it really well on the red line then the boat trip.
However, this time I got the 48 h ticket thinking that I'll have a greater experience. Instead, there were several irregularities with the bus arrival times. The late bus drivers were misleading and only gave me a ride back to the starting stop but using a shortcut. I wasn't informed enough and they were rushing it in the last minute. I missed the Beatles Walking tour by a few minutes because of the bus irregularities, and the BigBus agent was clueless about the walking tour itinerary (although I think he could have just phoned the guide and asked them to meet me at a middle point). I tried to follow the tour in vain and never found the group.
