Coffee tastes great. Communication is spot on. I hope they continue to offer free delivery for the foreseeable future as this delivery cost would negate the cost saving compared to the other brand.
Placed the order 29th November 2013 received confirmation of order same day with estimated delivery 2 to 3 days. I received two further emails stating that there was a problem with processing the order, finally I received confirmation that my order would arrive Monday 9th December which it did in the time slot allocated. I have to say they were full of apologises and kindly sent me extra coffee to compensate. The coffee itself is very good however the packaging not so good, all the pods come in a foil wrapper that do not have any indication of what coffee is in them so I have to leave them in the boxes and they do take up a lot of space
Ordered after seeing them mentioned on twitter. Ordering process was fine, but then when I questioned where my order was I was told there were delayed due to demand. Was then told it would be here in 1-2 days, but 4 days later after contacting them, still no order. Provided an incorrect tracking number for DHL. Not sure I'l be ordering again.
Coffee delivery delayed. Lots of polite, apologetic emails re: the delay but the fact is that I have still not got my coffee.
Ridiculous that I get a request to complete a customer satisfaction survey before I have received the product.
Not very happy customer at the moment
I discovered Big Cup Little Cup about a month ago. Now, my Nespresso capsules remain untouched on the kitchen counter and the BCLC coffee is all I drink. The capsules work without any problems in my machine, and I adore the smell when I open one of the foil packs to put the capsule in the machine. I'll certainly be rebuying from BCLC instead of Nespresso.
Tried this as cheaper alternative to Nespresso on a recommendation. Was reasonably cheaper but choice not as good. The packaging is also very bulky compared to the Nespresso tubes. We buy in bulk at the office and we now have a huge box cluttering up the place. So they're ok but will probably go back to Nespresso despite the slight increase in cost.
The coffee is perfectly acceptable and my wife actually prefers it, but that is because it appears to be slightly weaker than Nespresso and personally I like strong coffee.
The packaging is less convenient too as it takes up much more space per capsule.
I was very impressed with the packaging - every pod is wrapped in foil, and each coffee type is boxed separately. My only quibble was that the order took almost a week to arrive. My major "worry" was that the pods would not fit in my nespresso machine properly. But there was no problem at all. The coffee tastes fine - I love the espresso.I will certainly be ordering more.
I was pleased with the ease of ordering. The delivery was average speed. The packaging although very attractive is excessive with each pod individually wrapped in a foil bag. I felt this was unnecessary. The colour of the foil bag does not correspond to the colour flash on the box, so mostly I don't know what coffee I am drinking!
These are just small things, I am enjoying the coffee and may order again.
I have tried Reindeer Rocket, Thompson #9 and Gulliver's Finest (all lungos) in 1 year old Magimix, recently descaled.
Regret that all tasted thin and somewhat bitter. Crema and aroma noticeably less obvious. The product is drinkable but not worth the saving.
Bulky packaging means storage of my normal order quantities would be a problem.
Time taken to produce is 30 - 50% longer than from Nespresso.
We have had nespresso coffee for several years and loved it. We decided to try Big Cup Little Cup, just to compare . The coffee is excellent,as was the speed of delivery, it is likely that we will become permanent Big Cup Little Cup customers. Thank you we are glad we decided to try.
My wife came across Big Cup Little Cup after reading an article on line. I was reluctant to try as I'd been using Nespresso for 6 years and I have to say have been very satisfied. However, the significant lower price was a very tempting factor. I decided to give them a try and ordered the Christmas Capsule Collection Pack. I wasn't disappointed, up to now I've tried 2 flavours, Brazil Yellow Bourbon strength 7 and Millers Yard Espresso strength 10, the later being my favourite of the 2. The first is a fine coffee, just not strong enough for me. The latter is as good as any I've had from Nespresso. I've read several of the previous reviews re capsules not fitting into stands and carousels, but to be honest I don't mind. My only gripe, and it's a small one, I'd like the individual sachets to be identifiable, either by name or flavour specific colour or some form of colour coded identification card to match the colour of the sachets. Available either inside the order box or posted on the web site. Otherwise if I put them all in the same box it's a bit 'Pot Luck' as to what you get. Just a minor point. I've given 5* because at the end of the day it's about the coffee.
Would like more mild flavours that are intensity levels of 4-6. Would like the packaging to coordinate with the box colours. I put out the capsules in a bowl. Because the packaging is different to the colour on the box I have to keep the box to know what I'm drinking. . ;-(
Hi, I love your coffee and the range of tastes and flavours. It is a little irritating that the name of the coffee is not printed on each sachet or at least the colour on the foil corresponds to the colour on the box. This means you have to store the coffee in its box and when you have several boxes on the go this is a problem in a small kitchen, it is nice just to toss a selection into a bowl. Wonderful coffee though.
Having read about Big Cup Little Cup in one of the Sunday financial pages I thought I would give it a try. I was impressed by the ease of order, the initial choice and the cost. The fact that delivery was within 3 days was the icing on the cake.
The coffee blends were very good and augured well for future orders.
I have since taken delivery of a second order which came quicker than before.
It's always a gamble trying a new supply of coffee but these folks have got it right. Simple order process, quick delivery and a good price. I have has no problem using their capsules in my Nespresso machine for a perfect cup every time. I bought a discovery pack to try their full range and now the only problem I have is trying to decide which of the many varieties I like best because they are all so good.
Find these pods make the coffee machine run really slowly, it takes forever to make a coffee, they also have a grainy residue within the coffee which I have never experienced before. I bought the variety pack but so far have only really enjoyed one of the blends. I'm a bit disappointed as really had high hopes for these as an alternative to Nespresso.
The company has a great, simple website and delivers promptly. But at the end of the day Coffee should be an everyday beverage that is used frequently, so ordering in volume is important. The amount of space that this company uses to package each capsule is wasteful and takes up loads of cupboard space. As Big Cup Little Cup use perforated plastic 'lids' rather than foil, each capsule has to be individual sealed in a plastic bag, and inflated to protect it, so you cant just tip 10 drinks into a jar without taking up a lot of room.
Seems that they aren't yet the economic alternative to Nespresso. Yet.
Our first order from BGLC, we chose them mainly based on price, but the coffee that's been delivered is full or rich flavours, and I would have no hesitation in re-ordering from them.
Worth trying for a different range of coffees and a bit cheaper than original Nespresso capsules. Most bits can be recycled though they take up more space due to the packaging.
I bought these for my husband to use in his Nespresso machine. He has not complained which is good thing and is going through the coffee pods which is a good sign.
I found the pellets did not go into the machine as easily as the genuine Nespresso. The coffee does not develop as generous foam on the top and the coffee tasted thin (couldn't think how else to put it). Now I have to get through 200. Sigh.
I ordered the big cup selection pack as I like a long shot in my cappuccinos and lattes and Nespresso's strongest Lungi is only a strength 7. All of the coffees are excellent and much more full bodied than Nespresso's.
The capsules work well in my machine (a Magimix) and the fact that I can recycle both the coffee (into the compost) and the plastic pots is great.
I know that the extra packaging is causing some users issues but I just put out one box at a time and have no problems although I agree that printing the type of coffee on the foil bags would be an improvement.
I will be ordering again as the coffee is great and there is a cost saving over Nespresso.
Good range, good order process. Packaging a little excessive perhaps?
What an amazing company, great tasting coffees, cheaper than Nespresso which is a bonus, the only slight irritation is that there is not always someone on the end of the phone to answer queries, but hey the coffee and customer service is fantastic, delivery company they use text you with an hour delivery slot and even tell you the drivers name! It takes a great deal to impress me,but they succeeded in every respect.
It is wonderful news that there are now several alternative suppliers of Nespresso-compatible capsules, but the options from Big Cup Little Cup don't really inspire.
The lids of the capsules are not fully sealed so they don't build up any pressure unlike the OEM capsules, so there is little to no 'crema' in the cups. The coffee also has a taste very similar to regular filter coffee, without the smoothness which comes fro the crema of Nespresso coffee.
Because the lids aren't sealed, they are delivered in foil containers, disposal of which negates most of the environmental claims.
Asked for a special delivery day and it all arrived as promised. Ordered a mixed box because I'm still deciding which is my favourite. The packaging is bigger than I thought so beware if your delivering to work because I have to take a few of the boxes home every night as it's too big to take all at once.
The coffee is good. I'm still working out which flavour I like best. I think I may be drinking too much coffee nowadays!
Pleasant coffee but there is a difference with these and the original pods. Really prompt and efficient service. Seems to fill a cup slower than usual too. The packaging is the main problem, can't use my usual shelf top coffee pod holder and its a pain storing so many big boxes. Also when I open each individual foil pack there is a smell of coffee which you don't get with the original so I wonder if they are as sealed for freshness as the original pods - if they were would they need to be in individual foil packs. Lots of unnecessary packaging by comparison. Still debating whether they are worth the cost saving against the original pods, yet to be convinced. Real shame as the prices are good and the service is too.
I have tried a few coffees for my Nespresso machine by now. So far the original ones are by far the best and while many alternative coffees are to weak the big cup little cup stuff has a different problem. I got the starter pack, so a good variety of 7 coffees. Well...sure, they are different, but very very similar. All are roasted rather dark, all are rather acidic and none has the smoothness yet intensity of some of the original choices. I have tried all blends by now, I will try all of them again making notes to be sure I don't talk nonsense, but so far I wouldn't buy again and am considering to look into the money back thing. I have tried some of my leftover Nespresso capsules every now and then to make sure its not my taste that changed or the water or something, but I always preferred the original ones. Sure, there are very smoky variations from Nespresso as well...but only two or three...not every single one.
I like my coffee with a bit of variation, mild and smooth in the mornings, strong after lunch and maybe a little espresso with a sweet touch in the evening. With the coffee I got this isn't possible. If you would throw them into a bowl I couldn't tell which one is which if it wasn't for the difference in crema between them and some sublimal differences.
If you love dark roasted coffee with strong roasting aromas and a good deal of acidity, then this will be your favourite brand. If you like your coffee different, maybe strong but not with a slightly burnt touch or you dislike acidity, then all I can say is hands off.
I have the feeling that they tried to make the coffee taste stronger than it is by roasting it to death...
My review is based on having the coffee in the supposed way as Espresso or Lungo respectively and I always tried it black before adding milk most of the times because I couldn't stand the taste.
It was easy to choose the coffee & use the website. Good experience & great value I thought.
Packaging - I don't mind that the packaging is different to Nespresso (to be expected) but I found it confusing that the silver packaging outline colour was not different on each style of coffee & also that it read 'espresso' when the product was 'lungo'.
Flavour - the most important piece...(of course). I love the smell that flows out when you crack open the foil but was let down a little by the flavour. Like to taste my coffee & I found it less smooth & not as strong a flavour as nespresso; albeit I am getting more used to the flavour as I use the pods more.
I noticed the flavour difference the most when I visited my Mum who made me a nespresso coffee & I thought yep that's the flavour!
Would I buy again - probably, not sure yet. I'd recommend anyone to try it as flavour is subjective & the pods do taste pretty good; especially for the cost...
The coffee is very good but the capsules may not be totally compatible with all machines. In my case coffee from a Nespresso capsule takes 1min 5secs but from the Big Cup capsule the time is 2min 3secs. I was sent a replacement box but the same applies. With the Nespresso version the base of the capsule is "domed" and after use the 3 pierce holes are obvious but with Big Cup the base is flat and, I think, further from the piercing "prongs" . The result, in my view, is that the piercing is not as effective hence the longer time to produce a cup of coffee. Having bought the Discovery Pack it looks as though it will take forever to use all the capsules.
It's a pity because the coffee is very good. The capsules need a redesign.
My machine is a Krups.
The coffee was just as good if not better than nespresso but the packaging was fiddly.
I have a nespresso acrylic cube to keep my pods in but as they are individually wrapped I can't fit many in and then don't know what each one is! Also I can't open them without scissors.
Good coffee, shame about the packaging!
