They do rent at good prices and the fines for late returns are cheap.
They only ever get one copy of a new releases so you have to wait for a long time to rent
They do need to do an overhaul of thier rented disks and replace older disks with newer ones.I would also suggest they keep track of how the disks condition is on leaving the store and charge those who damage the disk when it is returned
I tried Lovefilm and decided to try Blockbuster who sends new releases quickly, but if you also like to watch World Cinema and Indie films then they will struggle and you will end up waiting for ages. I also found their envelopes are really confusing to use and, the paper cases the discs are delivered in, scratch the discs which makes them unplayable in many occasions. This for me is very annoying especially if you start watching the film and half way through you get problem. I am currently using CinemaParadiso.co.uk which so far were doing great. So check out my review on them.
Been with Blockbuster online rental for 4 years, never had a problem. They deliver much quicker than Lovefilm, and the big new releases are always sent out quickly. I get 3 at a time, dvds or games, no limit as to how many a month. Great value for £15 a month.
Tried streaming on free trial with netflix - poor quality, poor selection. Will stick with blockbuster!
Have had some titles on my list for nearly two years so wonder if they've really got them. Modern technology should tell them that where customers have been waiting for long periods of time for titles then more copies are required.
Overall though a good service worth the money where you need physical media (Discs). Netflix will take there customers that have streaming capability.
I ordered a X-men first class on blue ray for £6.00, IT WAS AVAILABLE, they sent me the dvd, I called up and they let me know that it was available but for £7.00, I distinctly know I saw the offer on the website and the newspaper, thankfully I had the newspaper, I had to scan this on my computer, email it to the lady and she then messaged me back that I would have to return the dvd, then she would re-order my title for me at £6.00...........??!! I placed a order and have to prove that I placed it and to get it at the price it was shown, ridiculous!!
I had some late fees which I paid in cash - thats fair enough because they were a day late. A couple of weeks later I went in to rent some more DVDs and was told I still owed the late fees. I explained I had paid by cash 2 weeks prior but they insisted I pay. Could the cashier have pocketed the money? It was £3 so I thought I would pay and then write a letter of complaint to the head office. I have never received a response from them. So for just £3 they lost a customer of 5 years.
I have recently left Lovefilm, i was with them for 8 years and cancelled due to some films i wanted to rent where unrentable only available to purchase. I checked Blockbuster and all films that i wanted from Lovefilm but couldnt rent, where rentable on Blockbuster. I am currently within my 2 week free trial, and have to say up to now they have been amazing. They despatch your new dvd's super fast, and they arrived the very next day!! I was amazed! The only thing i dislike about them, is the layout of the website, and how you view your current rental list etc. Lovefilm is much more easier to read and easy on the eye. If they fixed this issue and made it more like Lovefilms layout then they would be 10 out of 10! Lets hope Blockbuster keep me a customer for the next 8 years :)
You'd think with all the money behind them that this company would be able to provide a much better shopping experience and be more up to date with modern e-commerce technology.
I bought a PC DVD game because it was one of the cheapest online retailers out there (and beat Amazon) so I went ahead and made a purchase.
I noticed a few problems, firstly, they didn't specify when the order would be despatched, or what delivery company they would use. They simply said "In stock. usually despatches in 24 hours"
It turns out they sent the item Royal Mail Second Class. Why a retailer would force this option on a consumer is beyond me. I bought the item, i obviously want it to come as soon as possible, not in a second class slow service.
I actually looked at returning this item, due to having to wait 2 extra days for it to arrive, but it seems there are NO return instructions with the parcel, and after looking through their site, I found the returns policy within the FAQ. It seems you have to phone up their 0845 number if you want to return it. So in otherwords, using a mobile, I would have to pay a premium just to call them.
Did I receive the goods at a good price - Yes
Did i get them in an acceptable time frame, and did it seem easy to "change my mind"? - No
Would I buy from blockbuster.co.uk again? No
They make it so easy to just sign up and start spending, but as soon as you want to cancel it's a nightmare. There is no cancellation options online and you have to call and convince one of their staff that you don't want the service anymore!
Impeccable service from Blockbuster. Ordered hundreds of films from them over the net and never ever had a problem with delivery or service
A few month ago I purchased for the first time a movie from Blockbusters.co.uk. Instead of the Bluray ordered, they sent me the dvd, which other retailers had available at a third of their price. I sent the dvd back using the returns label included in the envelope. No refund was made, and when I eventually phoned them on their national phone line (neither the accompanying paperwork for the dvd nor their website provided an email adress for customer service) they claimed that they were going to verify that the dvd was received back and refund me, or at leasr call me back. That was a month ago, and no refund was made, they did not even bother to get back in touch with me. Rather then order with this bunch of thieves better throw your money out of the window, it gives less grief!
Eventually you run out of decent films to watch - but delivery and returns always works well - i cancelled recently for that reason only - i ran out of films i wanted to watch !
I bought a Blu-Ray as part of their post-Christmas sale. They were understandably closed until December 28th, but they then processed the order and shipped it that day. It arrived the day after, sent Royal Mail First Class. They're UK-based so they're much quicker than most sites for delivery.
They provided a very good service and a great price. I'll certainly be shopping with them again.
