We had prepaid a hire car (approx 100 euros) last Easter at Rome airport through Cardelmar, when we arrived at the Locauto desk they didn't have our booking or any cars left.. They suggested coming back the next day! As we were going 200 miles away this was not an option! We had to hire another car through another company at a cost of 300.00 Euro's. We tried unsuccessfully to contact Cardelmar over the weekend (it was a bank holiday) we eventually got through on the Tuesday, we were told we would get a refund plus the difference between the original cost and the of the new hire car. Eventually after many contacts and wasted time and 6 weeks later we got our original cost back, and they eventually agreed to pay a nominal amount of compensation of 45.00 Euro, so we would have still been approx 155.00 euro out of pocket. Seven months later we have still not been paid even the 45.00 euro.
They are an extremely difficult company to contact, and the email system is difficult to understand. We would have gone to trading standards but the company is based in Germany so we would have had to contact a European trading standards group, so we gave up in the end. I would never use this company again.
I was charged much more than what I was quoted AND I was charged for an extra day. I was actually back in Canada that day. I tried getting a refund but their web site is made in a way that you just give up at some point. As an example, they did reply to my refund request where I explained that I was charged an extra day, even though the car was back at 6:30 AM. I even sent my flight schedule to prove I left that day. They sent me a reply asking me to send a picture of the damage on the car and an estimate of the repair!!! I normally lease through Europcar, I should've done that. It's an honest company and what they say they will charge is what they actually charge.
I had never come across CarDelMar before, but I will definitely use them again. The prices were very reasonable, with a good choice of cars. I also had to amend my booking and the customer service person on the phone was very helpful and efficient. I will definitely use them again.
I live in Scotland, and I was amazed at how much cheaper I was able to book a rental car in Houston TX USA than I was able to find using the other websites! Even with a drop off situation, it was still very affordable - I was not charged a drop off fee w/ CarDelMar, and the fees were quite high on other sites. Having the airport/local/state/national etc fees and taxes included in the quote made it easy to compare while shopping, and made check-out very easy at the rental car desk. As I was returning my car at 3:30AM, i had been having trouble finding an agency that would be open at that hour, and other search engine websites did not take the opening hrs into account, but CarDelMar took that into account. When I first tried CarDelMar I did not understand that there would be a waiting period while they searched for the best price, so make sure to make your inquiry plenty in advance. While I did not use the cancellation policy, it was a comfort to know it was there. I would highly recommend CarDelMar.
Only came across this company recently - used them a couple of times and both times has been great. They seem to manage to offer real bargains with companies you've actually heard of (i.e. Hertz). No complaints at all.
Having booked online in advance I thought most of the paperwork would be done & I would just have to sign. The Hertz reception desk at airport was closed and had to walk to their office 5 mins away with luggage. After waiting in a queue for 20 mins the paperwork took another 30 mins and agent decided to deal with someone else at the same time as me. Not impressed. Car was fine when I eventually found it. Return process very quick - only question asked was "have you filled it up with petrol"? which I had.
The booking process was great and on arrival at the airport we were swiftly given the keys to a suitable vehicle. However when we went to the car park to collect the car seat as ordered, it was adapted for older children and not suitable for a 19 month old. It was also not in as good a condition or as good quality as I would expect. We struggled to fit the seat with the straps for over 40 minutes. No one was available in the office as it was after 5. My husband then went all the way back to arrivals to be told they couldn't help and that the man in the car park had gone home. We then returned to struggle some more and eventually went to europcar who were around to ask for help. They tried to help but couldn't do it either. Europcar had isofix car seats which are safer and easier to fit. After well over an hour and a half with a 19 month old child we all went back to arrivals where the man who had 'gone home' now appeared and came back to the car park and got a different seat which was adapted for younger children. it was still of poor quality and did not feel very secure so once at our destination we borrowed a different one from friends.
After such a farce I was surprised to be billed 85 euros for the car seat and additional driver. This additional driver charge was not explained to us at the time and the car seat only by yourselves not hertz. I am also surprised at the quality of the seats used by hertz given the charge.
I booked a Peugeot 308 Cabriolet or similar, it was excellent value for money, unfortunately when I picked up the vehicle they attempted to Palm me off writhing a Citroen which they said was similar it was not. I stuck to my guns and they relented.
Especially selected option to hire car at airport rather than off as I had previously. Paid more of this option However on arrival I found out that a minibus would transfer me off site. Might not seem like a big deal as not that far to travel but I was travelling on my own and had specifically booked car to be at airport. I had not realised how small the boot in on a picanto. Too small for my suitcase which I had to put on back seat. Again not an issue for me but although car says it can fit 4 people that would have to be with no luggage or just one small hand luggage. The windscreen wipers on car needed the blades changing and therefore did not clear screen properly. It was very dusty in Cyprus and therefore I did have to stop and lean window with cloth occasionally and windscreen wipers made it worse. All the Hertz staff I met were very helpful and polite. Remember to fill car up before dropping off as cost of full tank I had to pay as deposit was just shy of 60 euros ... However only cost me 35 to fill talk up. Don't get me wrong... Overall was not a bad deal but be aware you need to consider extra time to drop off site, check things like wipers etc before you take car, if you need space for luggage book a bigger car and ensure if full to full you fill up yourself before return.
Whilst there was nothing wrong with the Car Delmar booking service as they delivered a good service but you need to on your toes when dealing with the car providers.
After standing in the line at the Europcar desk for 90 minutes you virtually brain dead by the time you get seen by someone that you can hardly understand. I was told that I needed to take out additional insurance and also advised to pay for my fuel up front to avoid delays when returning the car, what I was not told was that the insurance was actually a 'serenity pack' (cost 240 Euros) and that there was a re-fuelling charge.
The end result was that a 15 day rental for a Renault Clio started out at 293 Euros but actually cost me a final figure of 603.67 Euros. This is not the first time that I have fallen victim to Europcar's deceptive charges but it is the last, I will never have another car from them.
I rented and paid an economy car but I got a mini.
According the website the fuel policy full to full but I was charged for the full tank. I paid 45 liters while the tank capacity was 35 liters.
The rear tires were worn well below the limit.
I picked Hertz as (A) they advertise as "on airport" and (B) provided with a full tank and bring back full.
A. They do not have a kiosk in Arrivals like others. True, a very pleasant man held up a Hertz sign and took us to the office without delay. All fine, but their office is tucked away down a side street and no map is provided to find your way out, or, more importantly, in.
Paphos doesn't have the usual signs for returned rental cars, so after passing the terminal building 3 times, we were pleased to see an illuminated Hertz sign, so went in the barrier. Wrong ! That's only for the winter. Phoned Hertz, who were polite, but we had to go into the terminal and pay 2,50 to get out. Met a Hertz employee who gave us instructions, which were confusing, particularly in the dark, but eventually found the office and managed to check in with little time to spare. PLEASE PROVIDE A MAP OF THE AIRPORT WITH YOUR LOCATION. I've never not had instructions from car rental companies.
B. I know most companies are going for charging for a full tank and you should bring it back empty. It's only a ruse to get more money from the customer. You'll get a reputation like Ryanair (and even they are beginning to change as their profits fall.)
The Spark isn't a bad little car. It's quite pleasant to drive and is quiet, but it is unsuitable for the heat of Cyprus. Mid-day, going up into the mountains, with a/c on, it really struggles and much of the time is spent in 2nd gear. In the cool of the night and down hill, it's fine.
The quote above comes from an internet review that I looked up.
Other than that, your staff are pleasant, friendly and helpful, as far as they are able
Hertz at Salzburg airport changed our reserved car to a Skoda Yeti which was fine but gave us the keys with no advice re starting. We ultimately thought we had a starting fault which left us stranded and called out the breakdown. We found the fault to be a rubber floor mat preventing the clutch to be depressed fully to the floor thus enabling the car to start!!
A little explanation on collection would have prevented this.
I completed hire process which was user friendly and simple. Not sure I like the quoting a particular model of car and then putting or similar. I hired a luxury car quoted as Cadillac CTS or similar. I actually got a Infinity M37.or rather 2 Infinity M37 as the first one was filthy and had bags of rubbish in the boot also the key was in the car because the engine started but noone could find it so I refused it. The replacement had keys, it also had lots of minor scrapes and other niggles such as intermittent wiper didnt work and the user manual was missing (this is a must with the high tech of a luxury vehical). I didnt feel it compared to the CTS for interiors comfort either so all in all a bit disappointing. So Car del mar did fine but the partner Avis in this instance let Car del mar and us down.
1) long time waiting for confirmation, another company sent us the confirmation and voucher in few minutes, car del mar after 24hours of waiting - we did last minute requst - 48 hours bevor pick up and 24 houres waited for confirmation.
2) services included not written on the voucher - only name of some package. What this package includes was written in terms and conditions, written only in German!
3) i asked for english written terms and conditions or new voucher - first ansewer, i got: voucher is in english! so i did second request - i got the terms and conditions, but 1 day after i picked up the car!
4) rental company cheated us during pick up the car, made us pay more - told us the amount is obligatory/mandatory fee, after i asked Car Del Mar to prove that, they told me, it was not right, but i signed the contract, so i have to pay!
5) Because of the complain i asked 6 dayes before drop off the car for changing drop off place free of charge (paying one way fee 1700 CAD anyway so i thought 100 km change will not be a problem) - it was, car del mar did not arranged it. Reason? Missunderstood, they tried to call me, i did not picked up - what about time difference between Germany and Canada? And during traveling in Mountiens you are often withnout phone singnal anyway...but 6 dayes is eneugh to clear up everything by email...unfortunately not for car del mar!
I recieved an email at the airport as I waited to board my flight telling me they could not provide a car. There was no attempt to find a replacement. I was left at the very last minute, with no help, at 9PM at night, in Italy, miles from our accomodation, with 3 children, to try to find my own car. We had tried 6 hire agencies before finding one with a car available. It was smaller than the car we had arranged, but more expensive.
The original cancellation email said they would refund any extra cost, but they have refused. Car del Mar have refunded my £376.78 paid to them but left me having paid £717.73 instead.
Car del Mar have closed my 'complaint ticket' so I cannot now contact them online. I can only contact them by phone contact you by phone, at international rates to Germany and will only answer between 9 and 1 (8 and 12 my time).
They assured me that you would meet any extra cost involved, but have now refused to honour this assurance and left me paying double for a car that should have been half the price.
just returned from holiday, so far all ok, easy to book no hassel, got the car through hertz with fully inclusive zero excess insurance...excellent deal
I've now used CarDelMar to source car hire from Athens Airport three times. On each occasion they have found cars from different companies, Budget, Hertz and this year, Avis.
The car search and booking system is easy to use and CarDelMar's website offers plenty of easy ti understand information especially on the subject of different insurance cover options. They keep you updated on progress and this year sent a very useful 'what to do when you arrive' email which I printed and took with us.
The cars have always been in good condition considering the destination and that they're hire cars! The suggested "Opel Astra" this year ended up being the rather ugly Skoda Roomster but it had the space we required, was in great condition, ran well and was equipped as promised with Air Con, CD player etc.
To be honest, each year I compare prices and service but always end up back as CarDelMar and will now give up looking elsewhere.
If I thought the service was bad in anyway I would state it clearly on here but in this instance I have nothing negative to say.
We booked a Peugeot 308 1.6cabriolet or similar for a touring holiday in Tuscany. When we picked up our car from Pisa airport we were given a citron with a sunshine roof. Nothing like a cabriolet. As we were touring and the sun was shining we really were disappointed. We also couldn't fit our cases in the boot and had to have them on the back seats while we drove around. The guy in Europcar where we picked our car from had nothing else to offer us and suggested that we call round to see if we could find one in either Florence or Siena. He didn't do this for us. We tried calling the next morning and had no luck. We also called the hotline numbers on our booking forms and could not get though. I have tried these numbers since we have returned and the numbers are unobtainable. I am still trying to contact Car Del Mar to register my complaint.
Booked through CarDelMer picked up the car from Herz Never again
Picked up the car at about 10pm so unable to check the poor state of the car, Booked my wife on as second driver where we were told that it would be just over 119 euros for the 2 weeks which we thought was expensive but necessary, we were told that we would not need to pay until we returned the car.
The next morning we saw the true state of the car, most panels were damaged to be fair these were marked on the agreement and on the plus side we couldn`t damage the car anymore.
The real problem was when we returned the car when we received the true cost of placing my wife on as a second driver which jumped up to 189 euros, we were told that this was due to taxes, so make sure that you know exactly what you are paying before you leave the UK as a cheap deal can be costly
I booked to pick up the car at 2am at Ibiza airport which is outside normal hours. I assumed this was OK and any fee had been built in to the quoted price as I had clearly stated the pickup time. A few days before I phoned Europcar at Ibiza airport to double check they knew we were picking up at 2am and they said yes thats OK because you've paid the fee for extended hours. On arriving at the airport I found I had to pay a further 63 euros for out of hours. The person at Europcar showed me the small print at the bottom of my Cardelmar voucher which did indeed say "Pick up outside of opening hours on request, extra charge EUR 62.86. This was a shock as I had the clear impression that this had been built into my quote. Apart from that the rental went fine - no hiccups.
Good deal for a premium car for 12 days. Got what I was promised and again AVIS did not disappoint.
My only issue is that the selection of cars are not updated, I had to research a lot to find out what model will be available for me.
A pleasant experience and easy car return was appreciated. I haven't received final charges yet however. Citroen ds9 cabriolet was very clunky and the automatic transmission was poor and didn't inspire confidence on the motorway. Other than that I would recommend the cardelmar service
it is always worth shopping around, but this time CarDelMar saved me nearly 60gbp on car hire in Sardinia comparing to other online services and directly hire companies, for sure will save their address, recommend, and will try again next time
Order process was simple and easy to follow. Communications were clear and timely. Collection of car at Bilbao could not of been easier - close to arrival terminal, no queue at Europcar, no hiking to pick up car. Car was adequate if a little underpowered - it did the job just. Only problem was contacting Car Del Mar re change of return location was difficult. Sent email - no reply or acknowledgment. After follow up email finally informed that needed to speak to Europcar. This was also tricky given my lack of knowledge of Spanish - hotel owner came to the rescue. Pleased and rather surprised to discover that Europcar did not take opportunity to extract more cash from me for change of return location. Overall a generally pleasant and trouble free experience. Thank you!
Overall very good. Great staff and check out people. Veru pleased.
Very efficient service and a terrific little car. Would recommend.
I had never heard of CarDelMar, but came across them on the Travelsupermarket comparison site. I chose their offer for a car in Crete for 2 weeks in August 2013. It became clear quickly that CDM are brokers, but I was happy with the price.
The local car supplier, Avis at Heraklion Airport, Crete was very busy on arrival and I was anxious that their desk closed at 2200 hours. with our scheduled pickup at that time. However there was no problem and the CDM paperwork was all fine. The "pity about..." above refers to the Avis Ford Focus, which was a 2008 model with 90000 kms on the clock. It was scruffy, dented and not well-presented. However, I do NOT criticise CDM for this, I believe they provide a good service in getting a good price and I would definitely use them again.
I had a small difficulty at the collection of my rented car. I had paid a deposit online with a debit card without any problems but on presenting the same card at Hertz desk in Cape Town I was told I needed a credit card. I do not have a credit card believing that a debit card is safer for both parties in any transaction. I tried to discuss the possibility of using my debit card but Hertz computer system only accepts credit cards I was told, and given no further advice as to my dilemma. Fortunately there were two of us and the other person could use her credit card but had I been on my own, I would have had to reclaim my deposit and go to another car hire provider. Perhaps this anomaly could be highlighted to future CafedelMar customers.
I was appalled and disgusted on arrival to discover that the price I had paid did not include ANY insurance and that I was expected to buy that on pick up. I was given two choices. Either 5GBP per day for cover for ONLY tyres and windscreen or 18 GBP for full no excess cover. Take it or leave it. I told the man at the Hertz office that it was a disgusting scam. NEVER AGAIN.
I thought the rate and the speed with which you came back was good but I was confused who I was paying and felt the excess issues were also baffling - European provided the car, tool a £250 charge on my card and issued a £1000 excess. Car del Mar sent me an invoice but then I also received an invoice from Europcar. Assume I paid once but needs now to check my statements to be sure and feel this could be much more clearly explained.
