Shocking lack of regard for obligations and customers

My husband and I booked a car for collection in London Gatwick Airport for 1st March. We booked through the Aer Lingus website. We arrived to collect the car at Budget. The agent could not find the booking and quite frankly didn't seem to care - it's Car Trawler's problem, not ours - this is despite me giving a fully paid voucher to the agent. I tried repeatedly to call Car Trawler, no success - in fact it was 5pm that evening and countless cost later having to use a mobile to call that I finally got though. The upshot was that Budget couldn't be bothered, they couldn't find the booking and wouldn't give us a car. We had no other option (apart from paying Hertz £400 for 2 days rental) but to lug two heavy bags on the train to London, leave them there for the day in a storage area and find public transport to our destination that night followed by an extremely expensive taxi fare to Gatwick at 0500 on our departure morning. When I eventually spoke to an agent - 8 hours after we tried to collect the car, I was told that a 'ticket' had to be raised on the system. I did this and I also attached a detailed explanation of what had happened and sought an explanation, apology and refund of the additional expenses incurred. Several weeks later I get an email to say the car rental money was refunded but no apology, no explanation. I asked for one and now 2 months later, no explanation, no apology. So I have to say it was an appalling experience and I would never, ever use Car Trawler again - how can you possibly offer a service to customers who are dependent on the car, take their money, don't honor the contract when they arrive and then basically fail to remediate the situation. Shocking. Customers beware.

Customers are a pain in the *

Prebooked and prepaid for a rental periode of 4 days through CarTrawler. Turned out that I only needed the car for 2 days, so made an early return. The local agent informed, they would only charge for 2 days to the "middleman" ie. CarTrawler. CarTrawler however denies a refund for the unused days. That is unacceptable. Getting in contact with CarTrawler is also very hard. There is no phonenumber, no e-mail and no adresse. Typical for a Company that dont want to communicate with, and meet the customer, where the customer is. So dear CarTrawler you need to downgrate your spreddsheet and upgrade your respect, or you will soon be out of buisiness.

Extras of 150% added to initial booking fee

Sir,
I rented a car in Cyprus thru'Drive Cyprus/Holiday Autos.
Your company handled the rental@ Paphos airpot and the
Rental Agreement number was
27-600693 W.
It was from 23/2/14 -22/3/14. The Cost was 146.16 Euros.
I was told that I was to receive an upgrade and the car I got was
a Picanto. Hardly an upgrade?
I was told I would get a full tank of petrol and to bring it back
empty.I was not offered the option of bringing it back full.
I was told that I could buy cover for windscreen/ sump/and
Tyres, which I accepted.
It turned out I was sold Super CDW, when I had already paid
for CDW.
I was then charged VAT on petrol and insurance which already
had VAT included.
There was also a Euro 17.09 "Airport Delivery fee?" but the car
was on the airport, so where did they deliver it From/To?
Today I have just received my credit card bill and you have
added a random Euro 16.29(Shown as £13.92) Could you
explain what this was for?
My initial rental was Euro 146.16.
My extras @ Paphos came to Euro 230.41 an added 150%!!!!
Not exactly CLEAR-HONEST PRICING would you say???

1. WORST company for rent a car

Rental car is done with the help of Europcar agencies in Italy. While booking the car, nowhere did it say that the deposit will be 1500 eur?? This is completely unacceptable behavior and illegal!!!!

I have been paid total rent price which would include full insurance with no excess! But in Italy said:
1. insurance is not included and late pick up charge - you must to pay extra (that was specifically included in the contract )
2. deposit is 1500eur,
3. In addition, we must pay tanking gasoline at a price determined by the officer on desk-57 eur???
I've given up on rent a and car if everything was pre-paid, and now I'm going to start the process at Intrerpol for this fraud agency which deceives people!!!!

Dont!!!

Never received confirmation on booking. The day before my travel, I received an email requesting that I buy insurance. Surprised, I mailed back that I never received word that the booking had gone through, and I therefore had booked another car. They wanted 27 dollars for cxl the booking they never confirmed. I guess they are just one of the many cowboy companies on the web. Well, this is one horse I will never ride again. Thanks for nothing. And send me an email thanking me for my money!!

DO NOT USE CARTRAWLER! THIS COMPANY MEANS TROUBLE!

Booked a car via Norwegian (Flight company) as Cartrawler are their partner and appears on their website. Stupidly, I thought that I could trust them.
Arrivning late in Spain and did not get any car. Had to pay 80 Euros for cab to take me to my hotel. A lot of calls later I have not still got my money back!! They do not refund costs for cab, mobile etc.
DO NOT BY ANY MEANS BOOK ANY CAR OR INSURANCE VIA THIS COMPANY: THEY ARE NOT A SERIOUS COMAPNY!!!

Avoid 'Right Cars' Glasgow Airport like the plague

Should you see any reference to Right Cars at Glasgow, or anywhere else in europe they may now be operating, on your car hire voucher when booking with Car Trawler, or whoever, CANCEL the booking and search elsewhere.

We were lucky. They literally charge the deposit to your credit card, rather than just pre-authorising. They then give themselves 14 'working days' to refund it. I nagged and got it back but it took longer than they advised.

Have nothing to do with them, or any who promote them, google Right Cars Glasgow and see wehat I mean!

Very decieving

I booked a car through Cartrawler from Frankfurt to Munich. Sadly, what I found out later on is that the price cartrawler gave me was only with 100km free.
On the Cartrawler Website it says that prices are usually with free kilometers.
Very disappointing, since it is clear that rental station 500 kms away from returning station needs to include the distance in free km between.
Other serious websites manage to do that as well. Sadly this one mentions it only in a small sentence. Customer support afterwards didn't help in any way either.

Be VERY careful to read the contract exactly before booking with them or just use one of the many other websites that take into consideration the distance between your rental and return station.

Den værst tænkelige kundeservice!

Jeg havde lejet en bil gennem dette firma og ville forlænge min lejeperiode med et ekstra døgn. Jeg ringede til kontoret, men kom aldrig igennem. Skrev efterfølgende til dem gennem deres såkaldte "kunderservice-system", men blev bare ignoreret.
Jeg har aldrig modtaget så dårlig og mangelfuld service før og jeg giver derfor firmaet 1 stjerne - og kan ikke anbefale andre at være kunder her. (Kunne jeg give 0, ville jeg gøre dette.)

Dishonest. Avoid.

I hire cars regularly, and I am the kind of person who reads contracts very thoroughly. On this occasion I came home from a trip to Germany to find Europcar had charged a number of extra charges amounting to nearly 100 euros for things not agreed in the contract, including an Airport Premium that was specifically included in the contract, and a late drop/ pickup charge based on completely fabricated information. I rang Customer Support and they apologised and said if I sent in the paperwork, they would organise a refund. I have spent several hours having an email exchange with Customer Support and it is clear to me that they are not going to organise a refund and frankly they just intend to do what they please. I have been told I can ring an international number to discuss it, which clearly is something I am not prepared to do. I intend to report them to Trading Standards and also take up the matter with my credit card company as they are in breach of contract.

Update: I have now applied to take out a Small Claims Court Action with the Court in Dublin. Here is the link for an online Small Claim in case anyone else is having problems. https://www.csol.ie/ccms/welcome.html

Ashamed that this company is associated with Ireland! AVOID...

Hired a people carrier in Italy, June 2013 (Bergamo) via Cartrawler here in Ireland...upon return to Ireland my credit card was hit with an additional €1,057 charge for damage claimed to have been caused! No damage whatsoever was done to vehicle and my wife and I checked it personally with attendant upon return to airport! Contacted Cartrawler immediately reporting this fraudulent activity. They advised that contract was between me and Europcar in Italy and nothing to do with them! I was not accepting this dishonesty and sheer indifference and contacted Customer Service in Dundrum, who eventually said they would contact Eurpocar for answers, and would revert. At this stage I had received photos from Europcar which showed clearly they were lying! (eg a smashed windscreen totally intact) I have never heard back ! Only option for me is to warn other potential customers of what to expect!

Update...Firstly corrections! Company that Cartrawler organised rental from was Sicily by Car (Auto Europa) dollar thrifty...additional FRAUDULENT charges were €1,077.32. Alicja I appreciate your response (obviously social media more effective than phoning head office!) but do you really think sending me a fabricated list of what this company charged for is going to resolve the situation?

Rubbish

Car Trawler put me on to Easirent at Luton, which is the worst car hire company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. They are inaccessible, uncommunicative, unhelpful in the extreme and basically downright rude. I will never use them again and suggest that Car Trawler remove them from their list of service suppliers.

Criminals!!!

I rented a car with CarTrawler and picked it up in Toronto at Budget/Thrifty.

The car was paid in full, in advance, on cartrawlers website.

Later I get billed for the total rental amount once again but this time by Budget. Budget blames CarTrawler, and I should speak to CarTrawler if I want this money - no one can get in touch with CarTrawler - not even Budget.

So avoid these crminals, i've made a police report but I don't know how the police are supposed to get in touch with them either, this firm is incognito - they don't have a phone number and the "ticket" system isn't working.

WHERE DO I START. WRONG CAR GROUP. OLD BEAT UP CAR. NO FULL TANK AS PER CONTRACT.

Cartrawler verlangt eine Extra-Gebühr für die gebuchte Benzin-Option Voll-Voll

Ich habe bei Mietwagenmallorca.de einen Wagen gebucht. Dieser wickelt die Buchung über den Broker Cartrawler ab. Anmietung erolgte bei Hiper in Palma de Mallorca. Vor Ort verlangte der Vermieter bei mir eine Extra-Gebühr von fast 25% für die bereits gebuchte Option RÜckgabe mit vollem Tank. Hiper verweist auf den Broker Cartrwaler, das seit 25. Janaur 2014 so geregelt wäre. Cartrwaler verweist auf den Vermieter vor Ort. man solle das dort klären. Mietwagenmallorca.de (Achtung sitzt nicht in D sondern auf Mallorca) !!!! hält sich ganz heraus. Auf meine Bitte, das vor Ort zu klären, drohte mir der Inhabeer sogar mit seinem Rechtsanwalt. Sehr feine Geschäftsgebahren.

I ordered a Merc A Class and was given a Chevrolet Cruise.

I will never again use the car trawler website. I asked for a Merc A-Class and was given a Chevrolet Cruise - probably the worst five-door saloon on the planet. It was an automatic with only one forward gear, its engine was incredibly noisy, really couldn't handle normal inclines and felt very tinny. It felt unsafe at any speed over 90 kmh (around 60mph). The website said that I would be given a Merc A-Class or equivalent vehicle but no stretch of the imagination will persuade me that the car given me was even vaguely equivalent to a Merc. I hope to get compensation but have in any case decided to warn people away from this website in future. What a load of junk!

Warning, a bunch of criminals and they don't have any contact information

Yes, they are a bunch of criminals. They will take the money from your visa and then disappear. They don't have any contact information on their website, no email and no chat service. they only have international land line phone numbers which will cost you a fortune because they will keep transferring you from a department to another. The operators will not solve your problem. Cartrawler is just a supplier. When you go to any rent car office and present your cartrawler booking they will get angry and tell you to ask for a refund which is something impossible.
Again, do not put yourself in endless problems. Look for another company for peace of mind.
