BEST KEPT SECRET

Well I am moving to a new broadband provider because it fits my needs. Not that Chess /littlebigone has not fitted my requirements in the past. Never had any long periods of down time, the speed has been excellent. Chess have always bang on .

The phone line is only receiving I call the customer service they put me on hold more then 8 minute for the third time I'm calling from mobile so caste me a lot .sill my phone one way

An outstanding Company to deal with.

I have always found Chess to be a firm very easy to deal with, and their prices are extremely competitive. I bitterly regret being talked into changing to another supplier, thanks to a fast-talking salesman. As soon as my present supplier's contract is finished, I hope to return to Chess. I found Chess's invoices easy to follow, and the staff on your help-line were friendly and well-informed. Go, Chess, go !! Bravo !!

Chess overcharge, they don't stick to their agreement and they ignore communications with them.

I became a chess telecom customer through the Virtual phone number company around 18 months ago. I have two lines, one is a local number the other is an 0800 number. Both are on a 30 day rolling agreement.

They have consistently overcharged me line rental and despite numerous attempt to get them to rectify the situation they have simply ignored me. their staff on the phone can see that i am being charged too much but cant understand why or do anything about it.

So after almost 18 months i gave them their marching orders. Having paid one month in advance and being on a one month deal i don't owe them anything. They owe me! However as they can't even get the basic billing right i doubt i have any chance of getting the money they owe me!

To add insult to injury Chess have ignored my cancellation and have continued to send bills. I have cancelled the direct debit with the bank but this hasn't deterred them. I have replied to every email they have sent but have never had a response in return.

Now they are adding fees to the account and threatening me with their legal team who will apparently pursue me. Yet it is they who owe me money!

So here the bottom line. If you choose Chess they will overcharge you, they will ignore your emails and when you choose to leave they will continue to bill you and threaten you.

0/10 from me. Terrible company.


Edit. : i have now been contacted by someone from chess telecom. However that person denied the company was overcharging me and when i said i was not in the office at the moment and was unable to give detailed information about the over charging because i didn't have the invoices in front of me, the put the phone down.

Another great example of Chess Telecoms terrible customer service.

I should also add that a message has been left on the answering machine asking me to call them up on a premium rate number!

So again 0/10 Terrible company.

Good customer sevice

The problem I had with my land line was sorted out very quickly,especially as the visit from the technician on a particular day didnt happen when it was supposed to! being a business I needed it resolved quickly and Chess came up to the mark !

Low fees to set up new number but they get you on the way out with their termination fees!

It took me 3 months to get out of the contract and when I did they charged me £99 to stop the service. I only had one 0871 number registered with them, but instead of an up front fee structure where they charge you £99 to set it up, they decide to charge it to you on the way out even after the end of the contract (where they can hide it in small print). Not transparent and after about 7 years they have completely lost me as a future customer.

Deadful experience after switching to chess fibre broadband

We opted fro chess fibre after the south yorkshire, UK digital region was being switched off. David Cordwell, sales, offered us a deal for three years which was actually available online for two years. We went for two years. We were already on super fast fibre broadband and after our new line was activated by chess we realised we were now on ADSL. We did not ask for ADSL, as in this house, South Yorkshire, ADSL is very slow (1mb/s), hence why we need fibre. We were obviosuly dismayed at this terrible speed. At no time did chess inform us we would be on adsl and not on fbre suring any sales or after sales. Only aftr we complained did they send the "it is industry standard to take up to 15 working days" speil.

We were THEN told it may take up to 15 working days to recieve fibre broadband (we were never told about this during the sales pitch as if we had been we would never have accepted). So, chess switched off our fast fibre to ADSL then told us to wait for three weeks (whilst billing us for the full fibre service). Nice!

David then infromed us, after we complained, that we would be up and running within 5 days. 6 working days later, we hadn't even recieved the router! So, not 15 working days, just 5 working days - both promises were empty. It astonishing that we were first told it would take 15 days, then 5 days (this seems like picking days out of hats to me). Be careful though, as chess are clever, they sign you to a deal for 2 years, which they say you can only cancel up to 8 days later....but dont install ur actual services that you sign for until after 15 days. It is not lawful, and we will fight this. Mis selling is frowned upon by watchdogs.

So, chess bills for full fibre, provides ADSL then wonders why people complain.

We would recommend going with BT or Talk talk (yes, even with all their problems) as Chess, with us, were the most incompetent, misleading company we have ever encountered.

They are now refusing to answer emails, we think they do not wish to put anything in writing. Our line is blocked, they sent our bill (supposed to be under 40 a month, but sent one over 50).

Chess ruined our broadband service, so we write this as we hope they do not ruin yours.

UPDATE 2014/04/16. More delays, now says BT made an error at line activation. Now given me a very late fibre activation date - which i doubt would ever materialise. I have never been treat so poorly by any company, so why Chess are this poor is beyond me as they must know they will lose customers. Similar to M Dootson I came to chess via some really good sales talk that promised much but delivered nothing. I am so frustrated at their poor service as they have ruined my familiess communications via internet. They now don't appear to be responding to my emails to cancel, and I expect to be treat poorly by them from now on similar to M Dootson, but I will update regularly as i think people have a right to know about how we are being treat by Chess. How difficult is it to provide a fibre broadband for goodness sake?

Update no 2: I have just been sent an out of office reply from the person (Jonathan Ledner) who was supposed to be dealing with my case as urgent. Great. I have sent several cancellation emails and they are ignoring them. I asked them to clear my line so i may seek another service provider (one who actually gives me the services) and they ignore those too. I feel legal proceedings coming on.

update no 3. (yes, it goes on and on..and on........). Jonathan now says BT did not do as Chess requested so it is all BTs fault. More delays. I just want away from Chess. they have caused me headaches and severe frustration. I feel like i am being bullied into saying it is BTs fault when I wanted to contract with Chess for fibre but now chess expect me to check BTs work for them. Unbelievable!!

Let me out Chess, please!

update no 4. Chess have switched off my broadband, no email to say they have. I am now accessing the internet via my mobile, which is 3x as fast as the Chess adsl (supposed to be broadband, which is what they are charging me for). They no longer respond to my emails after I said i definately do wish to leave them for the tenth time, in bold.

don,t get in checkmate with chess,

Avoid chess believe me,
all was fine for 3 years or moor, then i upgraded to fibre optic broadband,
i asked all the right questions about speeds and usage allowance, what i ,and my family used the internet for
and was assured the package would be fine for me.
i did trust the sales man on this as i was already with chess,
i was told it would be a straight switch-over to fibre, no engineer required,
i was told the router i had was fine,
i was told i could get up to 75 meg speeds rather than 40 meg, for £5 more, all free connection so went for that,

turns out i did need a engineer, Bt rang me at 8am and said he would be with me at 8.30, but i dont need you i said, you do if you want fibre optic he said,
so all that done, lucky i was about, he then asked me for the router, as the one i had was no good, even though i was told it was,
so two days latter i get the router,
all good but no where near the speed i was promised, and was paying extra for, only 40 meg max,
so i ring chess they tell me to do speed tests and record them,they would be in touch, i do this,
don,t hear from them, so i ring, there is no record of you having a fault they say, i told them i had been doing the speed tests,like i was told to do, they say they will register a fault, eventually i was contacted by the faults deppartment, he told me my line would only take 40 meg, and i could not get 75 meg. even though i was sold the 75 meg package, just gets better don,t it,
i am still waiting for this to be sorted, my first bill came, i WAS charged £80 for connection,
and i was charged £27 for over use,
when i rang to sort it they told me i would have to pay £5 more a month to get a bigger limit. i said i had never gone over before, they said that,s because it was unlimited before, [remember this for latter] and fibre uses it quicker ??? again not worried that i was sold the wrong deal, just wanted more money, that took it to £34,99 a month, £9 more than BT, you get true unlimited with BT and BT sport and Free weekend calls,
from the start this has been a nightmare, i think i have been miss sold the package, all they want is your money, you think they would check to see what speed i could get before selling to me, then the over use, even though i was told it would be fine,
they don,t communicate with each other, and don,t seem to have a clue what they are selling, i was given the wrong information from the start, [they did give me the £80 back and the £27 over use because i upgraded]
Friday i receive a call from chess saying i owe them £400 from over usage from 6 months ago, WHAT. they say they did not realize at the time, that,s two contracts ago . so now i have to pay for there bad management, [remember they said i was on unlimited on that contract]
i have asked how much it cost to get out the contract £3,000 was the amount they want,
i am not paying that £400, i am not in that contract any more, i will stop my direct debit and go without internet, they should have told me at the time.
So as you can see complete let down by chess, i cant believe the way this has turned out, i would not recommend chess to any one, if you still go with them after reading this or the other bad reviews, then be it on your own head, Go to BT i would if i could.
i expect there will be a ever so nice reply from chess telling me how sorry they are etc etc, just to make them look like they care,
THEY DON,T CARE, I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT.

chess should beat their chest in triump

over the last week I have spoken to various members of the team and they have been very helpful .Unfortunately I still don't know how much my diverted calls are costing me and I have not been able to move my numbers over to the new business address they have at lease taken the time and made an effort to help me.

Fantastic service!

I phoned up about my noisy telephone line.The man I spoke to from Chess was very helpful and pleasant, and there was no hesitation on his part about arranging an engineer to come out to check the line,on a Saturday afternoon! I received two text messages that day with updates. The engineer solved the problem,replacing an old outside line. On Monday morning I received a phone call from Chess asking if the problem had been solved satisfactorily. Brilliant service, and to get the follow up call was the icing on the cake! I have nothing but praise for Chess.

Nightmare...they are putting me through hell

I chose Chess as a Business customer. When I closed my business they said that I would have to pay a charge for early disconnection of several hundred pounds. However if I let the contract run a few months more, and pay monthly as usual, then the contract would just stop on its original date. They said that TWICE to me. However I received a call just before the termination time of the contract to say that there was a mix up and that I would again have to pay several hundred pounds to end the contract. I refused to do this and wrote to them expressing my dissatisfaction. I asked for a written reply stating that the contract would terminate as I had believed it would. I received nothing and am now still billed every month for services. I am NOT paying. I don't trust anything they tell me.

Fixed fault

Called their call centre, after load of silly security question...... why would anyone call and say their Broadband is broken if it was not ! then they fixed it in 5 minutes.
