1st class postage rate, second rate delivery

Needed a new chicken feeder, so whilst on site decided to order some insects, grit and food so save the cost of getting a cab to local supplier. At the end of the order got a nasty shock to discover total carriage was nearly £20. Still I thought easier than going out. Chicken feeder and insects delivered in two separate parcels on two separate days. Lucky I have good neighbours. Large items however a different story. City link couriers based a long way from me are totally useless and am still waiting for their delivery. In short good themselves reasonably priced but add the delivery cost and waiting time and they become overpriced and not worth doing again.

I’m sorry you are disappointed with your experience of purchasing from us although we do try to make purchasing as simple as possible.
The total carriage was nearly £20 because of the weight of the items you purchased. Your order including a 20 kg sack of poultry feed and 25kg sack of poultry grit. As it says in the description of each of these items, they will each incur their own carriage charge. This gives a total of 3 parcels, each charge at the rate of £6.73. There is a guide to shipping prices displayed in the left hand column of every page of the website which suggests a 25kg parcel will cost you £7.95. The total price, although high because of the items purchased, shouldn’t have been a shock.
Part of the order was despatched with Royal Mail, the other 2 heavy items with our carriers. The problem with the carriers was due to them carrying out the contracted instruction to them – deliver the parcel to the address provided and collect a signature as proof of delivery. Our checkout procedure does allow for variations from this standard procedure.
The first part of our checkout process asks you if you’d like to have the parcel delivered to you invoice address or an alternative address – “Please tick this box if you'd like to have the your order sent to an alternative address. We recommend this option for high valued items rather than requesting "leave on doorstep" etc on the shipping options page”
The Next page of the checkout allows you to select your shipping option and includes a text box with the request to “Enter any special delivery instructions: If this is blank you will need to sign for the parcel”
Using either of these 2 options would have prevented the issues you experienced receiving the parcel from our carriers.
As soon as you contacted us about this we sent a request to the carrier requesting they leave the parcels in a safe place as agreed and this should now be delivered tomorrow.
