So they offer a great online service - we sign up for it - advise 100s of guests and they take the website down for 4 weeks (so far) , To make it "better" which means no guests can use it. We cant change - they have us and are are spoiling our day. Guests have no idea what to do - we get it the neck for being daft enough to go to Debenhams.... wish we had listened.....
I have been waiting for a refund from Debenhams for the last month. I have emailed them 3 times with no response, and in the end had to call them, at my expense, to sort this out. They didn't seem to have any record of the courier collection, but luckily I had kept a record, and they promised a refund within 5 days. I was not impressed, and will think twice before buying from them again. Other companies, like White Stuff, John Lewis and Marks & Spencers, do not hold on to your money for such a long time and send out emails in a professional way to inform of forthcoming refunds to be made. In this case, if I had not made a note that a refund was due, I might have forgotten about it altogether, as Debenhams obviously had.
When shopping at our local debenhams, my husband and i like to have a cake and coffee in the restaurant, which is always of a high standard.
last week we took our two granddaughters to the stratford branch.
which was a very bad experience, first of all, most of the tables were covered in trays of used cups, plates etc. so after clearing a table to sit at, my husband went to order.
he was told that the cakes that he had asked for were sold out.
we chose another and although it was very nice, i was amazed to see the cake we wanted was put on display as we were eating our alternative.
as we went to sip our hot chocolates, we found that they had been served luke warm.
we then noticed someone else ask for theirs to be topped up with hot water as they were cold.
as we were leaving, my husband informed the staff that we werent happy with the service, but she didnt seem at all interested. so i decided to take it further, as in my opinion, paying almost £20 for 4 drinks and cakes, it should be right.
trying to complain to head office was a complete joke, there isnt anywhere on their website to complain.
so i phoned customer services (additional costs) got the email address and told them everything.
the reply was that they agree the service should have been better, they will look into it and they hope i havent been put off returning to the same branch.(not even a voucher to cover the cost) wanted me to spend more money to see if it was any better.
my reply to them was, i have been put off visitng every branch if thats how they treat their customers.
I recently ordered a benefit make-up set from them, as I was able to get free delivery, and I have to say I'm really happy- the product is great, it was well packaged and was received in a reasonable amount of time.
I ordered some items post Christmas which eventually came after chasing one item. I returned two items in the same package and two weeks later I had heard nothing so I emailed them. I was sent a very nice email to say they would look into it, I eventually received a refund for one item but I am still owed £20 from my other item. I have emailed several times and had responses from different people each time, each saying they would look into it but nothing further. The paperwork within the parcel clearly listed both items so they should have either checked the item was there or queried it. I suspect the person receiving it didn't check and it is now lost.
If I want to call them on the phone number listed on their website, it will cost me 5 pence per minute, even from a land line, which I think is criminal, why should Debenhams make a profit from my call?
For Christmas from my husband, I received a product from Debenhams that he'd received in a clear cellophone bag, but the item was covered in filthy dirty marks. I contacted Debenhams straight away but as it was delivered to store, they wanted to send me another but expect me to make the trip to town (with petrol and parking etc) to exchange it. Working full time, made that option not very appealing so I refused. In the end the lady agreed to refund me and I'd keep the item, though it was faulty. This would have to do, though I wasn't happy they couldn't send me a replacement to my home. Two weeks later and no refund so I called them again. Thsi time, they said they wouldn't issue a refund unless I returned the item. I was so furious as this contradicted the conversation of the fortnight earlier. So, they sent out a courier to collect it and now over a week later, we've heard absolutely nothing from them - no refund, not even an email or phone call.. Now they have my item and my money and I'm still without the Christmas present from my husband. I've contacted their head office to complain about this appauling customer care and they dont' even write back. They are just not bothered and I find this disgraceful.
My wife receive a gift card as Christmas present and decided to use it last night on the Debenhams website to purchase some items, went to checkout to pay but could find nowhere to add gift card details other than the pin number from the back of the card. Although she entered the pin number the value of the gift card WAS NOT deducted from the total and the full amount of the purchase was deducted from her debit card. We have just rang customer services twice, the first person said it was a printing error on the card and that gift card can only be used in store this prompted me to go on to the Debenhams website and read the Term and Conditions but there it was in black and white can be used at Debenhams.com. The second call was worse than the first as now we were told that we could use it on-line but had to purchase an item to the exact value of the card which is total rubbish, I pointed out that there did not seem to be a box to enter the card details and he said he could not help with that but then repeated his opening comment that the Gift card could only be used to buy an item to the exact value of the card. If either statement is true then the website should add this to the Term and Conditions and make people aware before they purchase Gift Cards.
Debenhams often allow you to order items from the web, then return your money as there is no stock. This is not good enough - if they don't have good enough stock control systems they should not be trading online.
The following is a review that Debenhams asked for, then rejected:
"I purchased a Red retro phone handset. The description said it would not only work with iphones, but any that had the correct plug size. I tried it on my phone(Sony Xperia) as soon as I received it. Did not work, my phone rejected it. OK maybe my phone is special- oh well. The problem is that I called customer service twice, to return it. On both occasions I was put on hold, then someone put the phone down on me! That's not the way to run a "customer service" team. Now I'm left with a handset I cannot use and the money I purchased it for is gone! I am totally dissatisfied with Debenhams and have told at least 5 of my friends about it."
This is what they had to say about my review:
"There was a problem with your review"
"Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Red retro phone handset. Your feedback is very important to us and other customers.
Unfortunately, your review has been rejected as it was deemed to be a customer service issue. Please contact our customer services. We encourage you to review our guidelines and resubmit your review on Red retro phone handset. "
Did they notice that I tried calling customer service twice? The next move was theirs. Don't you think they should have at least apologized? Offered to contact me? This is their standard "customer service", lousy!!! The service gets no better in their stores. They ignore you, are not helpful and are snooty. It's like the staff think their to good to help you.

Absolutely dreadful services and unfortunately not the first time, i had stopped shopping there for 2 years but thought i could start again as i thought they would have improved - i was wrong. i ordered online 2 girls dresses before xmas. After a few weeks i phoned their customer services (they only have a premium rate number - says it all really) to see where the order had gone and was told that one item was out of stock despite the fact that i was allowed to order it on the website (explanation was the website can be up to 2 days behind actual stocks). They had also not deemed it necessary to inform me of this fact. The other item had not yet been sent out for some reason so i cancelled as i was not sure it would now arrive before xmas. I have still not received my refund.
Ordered crystal wine glasses twice, both times said in stock, both times refunded my money, thank God, but they still have it in the website says in stock. Why the website said in stock that actually not?.

I ordered a pair of boots for my wife. As mentioned by other reviewers, the tracking system does leave a bit to be desired in the early stages and the order seemd to be taking a while. I tried phoning the customer helpline but was put on hold.
I then sent an e-mail to them to enquire abot the order. Within 5 mins someone phoned me back and checked into it and found it was on its way.
I was able to pick up the package from the designated store next day.
Unfortunately there was a problem as there was only 1 boot in the package!
Phoned customerr services and got through quickly and spoke to a very helpful person who checked to see if they had any more in stock. Unfortunately they had sold out. He advised me how to send back for a refund.
Later in the day I got a very helpful follow on e-mail apologising for the problem and giving more helpful information.
All told my experience of their customer service has been really good, very helpful and it gives me confidence to shop on line (and in store) in the future.
Top marks.even in spite of the problem with the missing boot
Bought items linking through cashback site. First it rejected my credit card, then refused my debit card, finally refusing 2nd credit card as well.
Emailed Debenhams about this as I had a discount voucher as well which it would not accept and asked them to ring me!!!
Yeah, you guessed right, email back "no problems with our web site or discount codes".
No!! RING ME
email back nothing wrong with our online store!
My wife was adament she wanted these items, so tried again without cashback site and paid, yes paid with her NEW Debenhams Account Card. Hmm! funny that!
I told them "as no one appears to be able to read in Debenhams they could keep their Account Card" and subsequently sent it back, someone was meant to be following this up, but not happened yet!
Why mixed review, well generally goods are sent out on time, of good quality (recently though they've appeared to have got cheaper quality) and customer service has been good. Maybe we caught the wrong person on the wrong day and they deleted everything related to my complaint!!
I have ordered from Debenhams online a number of times and have never experienced a problem. The items have always arrived on time and as described.
We also used them for our wedding list and the local store, noting that we had ask for and been given a suitcase - called us and asked if we would like it earlier than the wedding in case we wanted to use it for our honeymoon - as all other items were being delivered after we returned. What fantastic customer service!
I am still waiting for an order I placed on 30/12/2012. Received an e-mail on 4/1/2013 to say the item had been dispatched but no delivery time or facility to track when it will be delivered. I sent an e-mail to their head office today and received a prompt reply that it will be up to 4days for a response. Rubbish service, have never used them before and will most certainly never use them again. My money was taken from my credit card straight away. Rubbish service don't deserve the star I am obliged to give them.

Ordered some last minute gifts and they arrived just in time for xmas. As always, they never let me down. Managed to get 40% off my items as well!

Ordered two items but dispatched separately. Ordered between Xmas and New Year and thankfully both did arrive but on separate days. I have to say that their "tracking" of parcels is next to useless as all it says is "dispatched", thats not much help. It would be so much better if they used a service like other big companies where you can see when its got to the courier, and when it will be out for delivery.
Cashback still "on hold" so will wait and see what comes of that - if anything but apart from that no problems.
I have had 2 parcels both og which no returns and rejected cashback-awful
I have made a few online purchases with this company now and I have no complaints, except that the 'track your order' function doesn't seem to work at all. It says it has 'despatched' then does not update with courier details. I recently ordered some items in the sale and was happy with the price and delivery.
I placed an order today for an item that the website stated was in stock. I got several messages saying the order was being processed, then at midnight got a message saying unable to fulful payment reversal with no apology or anything. They should not advertise as something being in stock when it is not, as it is a false statement and misleading. I also had a bad experience earlier in the year with 3 faulty Tripp suitcases. Debenhams actually tried to wash their hands of the problem, advising that they only sold the suitcase and that I would have to contact Tripp directly, who in turn said it would be better for me to contact Debenhams. Eventually they arranged for the 3rd one to be collected from my work address and said they would add £20 onto a gift card I already had as a gesture of good will. When I went to use the gift card several months later, there was nothing on it but the £4 I had on it already....waste of space and rubbish customer service. If they want to lose customers, they are going about it the right way. House of Fraser Rocks!!!

bought my wife a gift card for xmas, tried to use it online, but as the total amount was slightly over the value of the gift card,it would not accept the order. When that happens with Marks and Spencers, you can use your credit card to pay the balance, seems that is too difficult for Debenhams though.Rang customer services, was told that they could not help, unless we topped up the gift card.Agreed to do that, was then told that it would take 24 hours!!!! Last time I ever buy a debenhams gift card, back to Marks from now on

Previously an online customer, bought some goodies at a great price and free shipping. GREAT I thought, deffo shop online here again.... Not so great this time. Ordered three items at same time, two different deliveries arrived in fair amount of time....Still waiting for my lamp, say's its been disatched..... I don't know where it is as the 'Tracking' isn't very 'Trackable'. Phone line is too expensive, so i'll have to travel into the city to find out what's going on!

I've been to 2 different Debenhams stores in Manchester this last week or so and was not happy. They seemed to have loads of staff, but they were all just standing around gossiping and not interested in doing any work. If some of them had been on the tills, the queue's would have been much shorter (Isaw 2 people leave mine in the 10 minutes I was waiting to be served). Not good, which is a shame as I like their range of products

Wish I had seen the reviews below before I ordered one of my wifes christmas presents from Debenhams. I ordered on the 16th, had an email to say it was despatched on the 18th - nothing came. After phoning was advised to wait till 6pm on christmas eve (I see another reviewer below was told the same). Lines closed. Its now 27th and I've been told I could re-order. After a check - not in stock! Now am awaiting a refund - fully intend to repeat this on twitter..... why can't they track their items properly like other compaines? why can't they inform the customer if there is a problem and the item wasn't despatched in the first place? feel very very let down.

I made a very big order from Debenhams on 15/12/12 now it's 7pm 24/12/12 I am still missing 8 items. I ordered from them because their website states that delivery will be made within 2-4 working days. I called customer service on 21/12/12 the guy was friendly but helpless, he told me there was nothing he can do to help me and told me to wait and said I would get all of my items at 6.30 pm on 24/12/12 the latest. I just called customer service again and been told that the delivery deadline has been move to 8pm today. If I don't get my order by then there's nothing they can do, I just have to called them back on boxing day. I will never shop with Debenhams again. Such a stressful experience!!! I think it's unacceptable that Debenhams says they can deliver within 2-4 working day when they clearly incabable of doing so. I ordered from House of Fraser too and I got everything I ordered from them.

Ordered some items from Debenhams 15 December - was guaranteed Christmas delivery. I called on the 23rd to track my items which had been dispatched since 18th December. I was told to wait until after 6pm on christmas eve and if they did not arrive call for a refund. THEY WERE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS! Anyway I called as instructed and they were closed. I will spend the rest of my life discouraging anyone I know from ordering from these losers.

On the 08/12/12 I ordered a coat that I really wanted and had been looking in all the Debenhams stores for in my size, It hadn't been delivered by the 18/12/12 and I was getting worried so I phoned up on the expensive 0844 number and they told me to wait a few more days so I rang on the 22/12/12 only to find it had been ' probably lost in transit' after disappointment, waiting in days on end for it and spending money & time phoning for an explanation I got no apology and offered a refund which won't show in my account until the 02/01/13, which is ridiculous. Way to go Debenhams, number one customer service skills!

I ordered some denby tableware on 13th December. I received an email confirming my order promptly and then the next day got an email again which took me to a page showing that some items were dispatched and others were still processing. On 17th December a delivery arrived. It wasn't a courier company though. It was a woman and child delivering from a private car. Some items were missing but I expected this as I was anticipating a second delivery of the remaining items. On 18th I received an email update and all items now showed as dispatched. Then on 19th December I got another email which showed that one item was still at the dispatched stage, the other returned. We didn't return anything. So I waited in on 20th and 21st December. Phoned them on 21st December to ask where the missing item was and why something was sowing as returned. Friendly but unhelpful. They said we had returned one item and we'd be refunded and that the other item was still dispatched. They couldn't say when it might come. Waited in again on 22nd December. Phoned them again at 5pm and was told that it is with Royal Mail. Decided to go into a debenhams store and explain the situation. Store assistant was really helpful. She phoned on my behalf and was told that they are not going to be able to fulfil the order. So basically we were lied to. Communication really poor. Only way to contact them is through their chargeable phone line. There's no ability to truly track your order I.e. with a courier. Customer services don't appear to have access to any tracking information either. Luckily the store had what we had ordered on their shelves and they kindly sold it to us at the sale rate we had bought it for online. I'm now waiting for a refund from the online branch. I wait with baited breath. Although I like debenhams as a store, I won't use the online service ever again. And will actively dissuade others from using it too. Stressful and ultimately a waste of time.

What a poor service, found a perfume I was looking for, said it was in stock, ordered straight away, then over the period of 10 hours I have had numerous order acknowledgement updates, rubbish with nothing informative, now an email with order update, links to track your order, then a note saying "Unable to Fulfil - Payment Reversal", not we are sorry but we lied when we said it was in stock, or Sorry we have pissed you around all day and now you cant order from another supplier in time for Christmas.
BOOOOOOOO.

i ordered two pairs of boots from them and have had nothing but grief from debenhams, not only did i not recieve conformation of my order but i didnt recieve an order number,i then made numerous calls to them after being led to believe that myb order would be delivered to debenhams romford in 2-4 days........eight days later was still trying find the items i had ordered....totally disgusted with debenhams...will NOT be using again or recommending to anyone ,in fact would tell people to stay away ,if i could award them no stars i would.........absolutely p****d off.
Terrible quality clothes. I bought a dress from Debenhams online and it was potentially the worst quality item of clothing I have ever bought. It broke the first time I wore it. NEVER AGAIN.
BOTH ITEMS WAS IN STOCK AT THE TIME OF ORDERING SAME ORDER NUMBER BUT DISPATCHED DIFFERENT DAYS SAME ORDER NUMBER SO I COUD'NT TRACK THE SECOND ORDER. PHONED CUSTOMERS SERVICE HAD TO HOLD ON 5 MINUTES LATER NO ANSWER PUT PHONE DOWN EMAILED CUSTOMER SERVICE NO REPLY AT MOMENT PHONED AGAIN ON THE 19/12/2012 6 MINUTES NO REPLY. THEY ARE EASY TO TAKE YOUR MONEY BUT WHEN U HAVE A PROBLEM THERE NOT THERE TO ANSWER YOUR EMAILS OR PHONE CALLS. DEBENHAMS SORT YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICES OUT QUICKLY OR PEOPLE IS'NT GOING TO BOTHER ORDERING FROM U AGAIN BECAUSE I WOUDNT
Today I went in to the Oxford Street store after finding a toy for my god son online. Firstly I went in to there, asked if they stocked toys... after three members of staff not knowing, I went on to the fourth floor and to say that the toy department looked like a jumble sale is an understatement. I couldn't locate what I was looking for, attempted to look for assistance. After 10 mins wandering around the floor looking for a member of staff, I went to the personal shopping suite and dragged out a member of staff.
The young lady was a lovely lady, very polite, but had zero product knowledge, when I was speaking to this young lady, 12 people accosted her and wanted to ask her questions, because I work just of Oxford Street, i know the area very well, so I fielded the questions that the young lady was unable to answer (which was around 90% of them), each of these 12 people went to other stores, and I counted another 14 people attempted to locate floor staff, and each of them left without purchasing. When the young lady was unable to help me I went next door to John Lewis... A total pleasure!
I contacted Debenhams by telephone, no one picked up, I dialled up the head office number and was met with "so, it's a busy time of the year, wait your turn" attitude, and then I contacted them via Facebook, obviously this company has yet to understand the concept of customer services.
Sorry Debenhams, if you go under... it's your own fault, you totally deserve it. You're level of customer services is appalling and quite frankly shocking in such an age where the high street is fighting to bring people through the doors.
Will I ever shop in Debenhams again... Hell no! Why should I when John Lewis is always near by. Bub Bub Bye Debenhams I would of said it was a pleasure... but it wasn't even a chore, it was just pure agony.
Ordered item on Wednesday, Arrived on Saturday! Great quality product at a great price.
I ordered a duvet set for collection at my local store over the internet and all i've had is problems. Two weeks later I'm still waiting for the third email I am suposed to get before I can finally collect my order. I have been to the shop twice now and they have whole racks of the item I ordered, but I'm told I can't have one of them even though I have proof of purchase. Their tracking order system doesn't work and the customer care is shocking verging on being aggresive. I have written a complaint to their head office in London and waiting for a response, but like my order I probably shouldn't hold my breath ! ! !

Ordered some luggage and two other items from the online site. opened an account, as it said I would be able to track order. The delivery information on the site says 2-4 working days.
The order was not confirmed by e-mail, and not viewable online when logging into acount- so no idea of order number. Had to check with my card company to see if the payment had been taken, or if the order was somehow not placed. A week later received an email direct from Tripp (the luggage company) Debenhams had clearly subcontracted to them. The delivery address I had chosen was my place of work, with clear instructions on ordering as to our open hours. Trip was sending by a home delivery service, as this was what Debenhams had specified- and they expected me to be there from 7.00 in the morning till 9.00 at night. Needless to say, the parcel was not delivered without many phone calls, and I hadeventually to stay late to get it at 7.00 pm- some two weeks from date of order.
That left two other items not yet delivered. Another week later I got an e-mail from Debenhams saying this is your tracking number... the link didn't work. After 5 days (now two and a half weeks from ordering) I phoned them on their 5p per minute "customer services" line (not other way of getting in touch-surely e-mail should be available?) to see what was happening. Was told they had no ide where the parcels where, and I had to leave it until a few days before Christmas to cancel the order as a missing parcel. Eventually the parcels arrived, poor packing and obviously kicked from here to Kingdom come, but not before I had bought replacments elsewhere. To return I have to take back to a store- defeats the object of online shopping really. . Never again.......
I ordered 8 items and asked for them to be delivered together when given the option. Delivery was free as I spent over £100+. The first set of items arrived mainly clothes, 2 of the items had price tags on them that were less than I had paid for them in the SALE! and I had been charged £3.99 delivery.
Second items arrive and include 2 glass candles which are packaged in a plastic bag with no other protection! They are literally smash to pieces.
I call to complain about all the above and am told while waiting on hold to get through to there 0844 number that all customers have been charged delivery in error, I speak to a girl who doesn't seem that keen on speaking and she arranges 2 new candles, great I think to myself - I ask her to make sure that they are packaged correctly this time and she says she can't do anything about how its packaged its down to the warehouse.
I get home and another package has arrived, this time its a box of TOMY learn and play eggs for my nephew, and I kid you not, you could not damage the box more if you tried, it has been clearly opened and the whole box has been cello-taped, which means someone actually cello-taped it before sending it to me!
I call to complain this time, I'm on hold for ages I speak to another young lady and she apologise that it has been sent out in this way and goes on to explain that everything i have ordered has come from different warehouses and again they have no control over how items are sent out, she doesn't offer to help but says a manager will call me back in 48 hours!
Been on to there facebook page and they are literally being inundated with complaints, and people are even complaining about not having replies to there complaints! Save you self the time, money and stress and don't order from Debenham's, i expect they will be bust by January if there are not up the creek already which would probably explain the shoddy service and delivery.
My External discounts please get rid of Debenhams from this site it embarrassing having read all these posts!
I bought a chair for £275 which was delivered missing parts required to assemble it (screws). I called to report this and I was told that it could not be dealt with on that day, but someone would call me back within the next few days. I was never called back. I called again to report this problem and I was told that the item needed to be collected and my money returned as the replacement screws could not be sent out.
A courier came without telling me when they would be coming and left a note saying they had been. I rang the number on the note many times with no answer. I then phoned Debenhams who said they would rearrange the courier. Again and again the couriers have come without telling me and on the most recent occasion coming at a different time that Debehams said they would come. It was three months ago that I bought the item. I have complained to Debenhams who still have not arranged for the collection or return the item. The people who answer their phones in customer resolution are hopeless. I have offerred to arrange for a courier myself - Debenhams have told me they would not refund me the money.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY FURNITURE ONLINE FROM DEBENHAMS, IF THERE IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE ITEM YOU WILL HAVE TO SPEND HOURS TRYING TO RETURN IT, AND YOU MAY NOT BE SUCCESSFUL AND BE LIKE ME HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OUT OF POCKET.
It's taken me two weeks to try to shop at Debenhams online, only to have my order cancelled. First their hopeless website kept on rejecting our postcode, saying it doesn't exist! Trying to get through by phone took two whole days and I was given an email address. Needless to say, the email was not answered. When I finally got through, I was dealt with by two hopeless automatons and told it was late for assured delivery! I took a chance and now two days later I receive a standard-format email saying my order has been cancelled, reasons unknown! People, don't waste your time with this bunch of clowns who don't want our business - go elsewhere!
I have ordered something from them for the first time and I will never purchase anything from them no more. I have been calling for the last 3 days. Everyday I have different excuses. In the end, they just told me they can't do anything. I will just have to wait. They advised me to wait for another 5 days which means the whole delivery time will be more than 10 working days!!! How disgusting... Never had this kind of experience. Will never spend any money with them...
