Not the company they were 10 years ago....

Dell are not the company they were 10 years ago...but why is this you may ask..and the simple reply is....

Unreliable parts and poor construction, extremely poor after sales/customer service and a substandard grasp and understanding of the language of the country the goods are being supplied in. This in addition to there being no incentivisation to past customers to buy again and little or no knowledge of the sales history of a past client.

From Dell in the last 15 years I have bought 10 Desktop PC's with monitors and all accessories, 3 Laptops and a Server including a host of other smaller items such as Camera's, Portable Hard Disc Drives and Zip Drives, Mice, Carry Cases and further smaller accessories to a cost of about £15K which granted, does not make me their largest customer or even put me in the big league but surely still one worth retaining? Of course Dell are not actually aware of this as it would seem that every purchase from them is viewed in itself and a comprehensive customer record not kept or certainly not available to the Dell team members I have spoken to in the last 12 Months..

Could it really be the case that they do not think this important? Or perhaps they do not care about customer retention or loyalty. Either way it does not help to enhance the purchase experience for the customer and with the abysmal state of their 'customer service' and after sales support the likelihood of someone actually wanting to buy from them again is very unlikely.

Indeed, why would someone go back for repeat business from Dell at present? Two things. Price and convenience.

However, as Dell are not the cheapest on the market either I am still left wondering how they keep their goods selling aside from the convenience factor. Perhaps customers who cannot be bothered to look further afield, perhaps customers like me who have had good experiences in the past or customers who just believe the advertising blurb...or maybe just convenience alone.

Only, when it breaks down the convenience is gone. Much like the time you'd spent installing software and personalising the machine. Not to mention the fact that you're now without the PC which will take time to be fixed or replaced and likely you'll have to go through all the installation & personalisation stuff again. All this while now having lost faith in the machine which you now expect will let you down again.

I used to be a firm believer in Dell Hardware which I found to be well built and extremely reliable and a true advocate of the brand until my recent experiences and now I wouldn't even consider another one of their machines.

It's such a shame how a company can lose sight of so many things from once being so good.

Given up with Dell now due to poor aftersales

I used to buy all of our company's PCs, servers and monitors from Dell but I've stopped after repeatedly being let down with poor warranty support. I keep telling them to stop emailing me but they don't ever get the message. We now buy from elsewhere. Dell are cheap, granted, but you get what you pay for.

dell always have good prices on laptops, this is my second from them. when this onehas had it i will get my next one from them also

I can't make my mind up!

Every time I want to buy a computer from Dell, I cannot make my mind up to spend that little extra to make the computer better. Damn the customisation options!

Prices can be over priced but overall, the service is decent. Though the business contacts who keep calling about my account manager changing can be very annoying at times.

Great Products, but a nightmare to deal with

I cannot say enough about the credibility of Dell products. They are the best - bottom line...but UGH...my customer service experience when ordering a replacement part for my laptop was TERRIBLE. After a two month struggle with a back ordered replacement keyboard, I cancelled my order with Dell and purchased a much cheaper one on Amazon that arrived within a week. The experience was AWFUL, every time Dell called with an automated message stating that my order was delayed the message would end by threatening to cancel my order entirely if I didn't confirm that I recieved the message. Calling to talk to a human being at Dell was equally as frustrating and left me without a computer for 2 months. I would only recommend Dell products if you expect that you will NEVER need their assistance with that product.

The service tag on my Dimension 9200, bought only four years ago, is no longer recognised by Dell. It makes life difficult when tracing required data on upgrades. Why is the service tag scrapped so quickly?

have bought a few laptops from dell and after a year the chargers kept going . have replaced a number of chargers which were crap and expensive each time id to replace them . got rid of dell wouldnt buy another one .

Absolutely Fab

I purchased an Inspiron Desk top from Dell and their sevice was second to none. Great communication and as I am not an expert of the computer world, I received all the information and guidance required from the sales department and saved money at the same time, as the sales person took the time to find out what exactly the desk top would be used for i.e. emails, surfing the net et. or for a small business?

The service is BAD.

It was impossible to speak to the person who took my order after the item was delivered. I was assured when ordering that a date for delivery would be sent, it was not - fortunately I was in when it came. Also I misunderstood the email sent listing the items ordered. All listed Items were followed by the number 1 in the next column. One item I ordered was listed as no tv...... I thought it was some bit of code I didn't understand as the no 1 was in the next column and I took that second column as being the number of that item included in the order. In the end I gave up calling. I am an OAP and I didn't have the energy to fight any more.

Do Not Buy Laptop From Dell..

In my opinion i bought laptop with Pentium dual core processer with 3 GB Ram & 250 GB Hard Drive about 1 year ago, from the 1st day i realise that it was slower than AMD processer with 256mb Ram..

In short, I would not recommend anyone to buy this laptop.

If you want a quality build and great customer after care then you must consider Dell's website. If you are after a fully customiseable PC especially high spec gaming machines, then this is the place to go, even if it is just to Window shop and dream.

Very Poor

Very poor customer service, the right hand doesn't know what the left had is doing when it comes to placing an order and arranging finance for the product. And moreover, the Dell Inspiron Duo is a awful tablet all -round it has very slow performance & I would not recommend this netbook / tablet to anyone.

Dell have even set the dogs on me, in the form of a debt recovery management firm, for a item that was bought on a buy now pay 2012 product. And this was two month after receiving this awful product.
Worse still it's never used because it is just far to slow to work with :(

Overall quite good

For business computers they are fine. Configuration was easy, live chat helped make some decisions easier, pricing was competitive and build & delivery was on time as promised. Can't really complain - just so "uninspiring" but fine for business.

Service good, but I wouldn't recommend a Dell.

The actually service at Dell I don't have a problem with. The ordering and customisation of the laptops is easy and you can get exactly what you want. My laptop came when it was supposed to with no problems. The reason for the moderate rating is that I wouldn't advise anyone to get a Dell. I've had mine for just over a year and they're not as great as I thought, definitely not worth the price you pay. The battery and charger both wore out very quickly and needed replacing, and Dell's own replacements are outrageously priced.

Many purchases - all good

I've bought dozens of Dells for myself, friends and family and all have been great purchases.

Maybe it's been trouble free as I never have to call tech support as I do all that myself but the machines themselves have been all very reliable.

Bought Reliable Laptop 5yrs ago - still going strong

I bought an Inspiron 9400 with Office Professional & XP & never had problems. I have been very relieved & had countless hours of access for one or a million reasons. I am very satisfied. I also bought a little netbook & had problems where there was no ouibble - they took it back within the warrantee period fixed it & returned it fast. They were very generous with me & I appreciate it greatly.

terrible service

Dell has to be one of the worst companies for customer service I have ever used, I bought a pc for business which I informed the sales rep at the time, and even paid on my business card.

The pc arrived with windows 7 home eddition & no office business software as well therfore it could not link up to our business server.

I called Dell atleast 10 times to have pc returned, which then took five atempts from the delivery company as they kept telling they had the wrong stickers to pick up the pc.

I would of been better just walking into my local pcworld.

we have 4 dell laptops

We have 4 dell lap tops within our household (3 for chidren) we only had a problem with one of them and that was a battery problem, a new battery was shipped without any fuss free of charge.

Bargin PCs - you get what you pay for

Lets be fair, they are cheap and in this life you get what you pay for. I always buy Dell - Yes they will break down and yes after 3 years they will be uselss. But they are cheap! Customer service is terrible - so don't bother

Usless service.

I had a problem with my desktop, I phoned and phoned the company everytime getting the same thing do a test from F buttons. then giving them the code. this went on for months. then after a tech guy saying he didnt know the problem, I got a shop to look at it. The Graphic card had broken.
Well you can imagine my disgust when they said after all that time i had just gone over warrenty.
When i reported the problem it was still in warrenty.
Then they had the cheek to ask if i wanted to buy a new one from them
The company service is a JOKE!

They only care if you've got a MASSIVE order

As an employee of an consumer electronics/computing business, I can safely say that Dell only care about our orders when the value is £10,000 or more. Only then are we given UK based people looking after our order. When we order smaller things, it seems that Dell don't care about us at all, they seem to pass it on the the India based call centres to handle our order.

I think there is a serious communication failure going on in the company. In my opinion, they need to seriously evaluate what they are doing to the smaller consumer people if they want to maintain the name that they have built up for themselves, especially with smaller businesses constantly undercutting their prices on better spec items.

Bought a laptop and a desktop a while back. Order process was easy and the customer service is attentive and helpful. Order came and was happy with the 2 machines and they are great to help us in managing our online business.

Really really bad Indian customer service

I ordered a laptop in December. Was given a delivery date of January 26. Initially Indian customer rep was friendly. Around Jan 20 I was told my laptop was being built and would be with me in a few days. They took money from my credit card! A few days later I saw on Dell web site that new delivery date of March 16th! I could not speak to my sales rep. I left many calls (and emails) with her and her manager. NO reply at all. I cancelled order. Why wait two and a half months for a laptop! I was SO ANGRY. I will never order from Dell again and will advise everyone I know to do the same.
