After doing a 5 hour drive, it's great to know that you can relax on board with no hassle!! Staff very friendly and helpful, can't say the same for some passengers, but there's plenty of room to be able to move about. Even on deck, outside, weather was a bit wild, but still enjoyable to get the fresh air!!
I traveled back from France to Dover in October. Considering I had left lots of extra time to get to the port, due to roads being blocked in Germany and in Belgium I have lost so much time I was unable to make it on time. I traveled with my 2 year old daughter, for whom the trip was really exhausting to find out I won't be let on a next available ferry unless I pay again, not a small amount. I was shocked, considering people who were booked in for later traveled with no extra cost earlier and the ferry was empty. Very disappointed.
Checking in with multi -trip ticket can take a little to long especially when check-in staff, particularly on the French side, is not familiar with computer system and the rules for the type of ticket ie on a few occasions I was told by check-in assistant that I had to pay 30Euros more because it was wrongly taught 'high season' crossing applied, or send to the DFDS office to sort out the booking because the check-in person could not understand how to deal with a multi trip.
On a couple of occasions I have found the self service restaurant service (in the bow) very aggressive i.e. not allowing people to sit there without buying a meal! Literally the staff blocked the way by standing in front of the way through, physically stopping me!!!
Overall staff is friendly and I like the service.
Dunkirk to Dover is advertised as taking 2 hours. In the last 10 years of a few crossings per year mixed with other users (I take 7 return crossings per year) you have NEVER achieved it. This time, on the stroke of 2 hours, the vessel was just passing the green light on the harbour wall and it took another 15 minutes to drive off.
You are being dishonest.
You have insufficient toilets. On this trip all toilets available to public passengers ran out of toilet paper and found it necessary to use the lorry drivers' facilities where I made my presence aware to a member of the crew who politely moved to correct the problem.
on board you can relax in one of the quiet bars or have be entertained by the very good resident group, the food is second to none and if you take the buffet option you will never leave feeling hungry, especially recommend the breakfast as it prepares you for the day ahead. will be back on board soon
I love the boat for the great entertainment and fantastic food. Every time I have been it is never the same music and cabaret. I think another time I would like to experience commodore deluxe which will make my trip even better again. I think it is amazing waking up to a different city and culture. The only thing I can fault is some of the prices at the bar, some mixed spirit drinks are a bit overpriced and I think more people would buy them if they were reduced. Overall, the trip was fun and exciting, and I would definitely go again, and have recommended the trip to many many friends, and my family.
As with every time we travel on DFDS, we have had a very good care-free crossing. Unfortunately, this time the food was not good. Although the fish was ok, the chips were extremely dry and not particular warm. When an English person lives in France for any number of years, the thing they seem to crave most is a good plate of fish and chips. The ferry is always ours first opportunity and this time we were very disappointed.
Because when I booked the ferry price was coming £37 one way after submitting my payment a new window opened with £80 charged when I call the costumer service they said we can't do any thing and you can't cancel and it's non refund able thank you very much for this cheating that was my last trip with you I will never use it again and I didn't use it on the way back even I always used dfds that was a last trip never again
Everyone is catered for on board, whether you want a relaxing time or a fun party time both can be found onboard. The crew are really friendly and are always on hand to help and the ship is very clean and the cabins are cleaned to a high standard. I would highly recommend taking a trip on board to anyone.
WE HAVE BEEN USING THE DUNKERQUE-DOVER CROSSING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW AND ARE VERY PLEASED WITH IT. WE USE THE VIP LOUNGE FOR A SMALL EXTRA COST WHICH GIVES PRIORITY LOADING AND DISEMBARKING AND PRIVACY ON BOARD. HOWEVER, WHEN WE STARTED USING THE SERVICE, THE VIP LOUNGE SERVED GOOD MEALS, NOW ALAS THERE ARE ONLY SNACKS. I WISH THEY WOULD REINSTATE THE PREVIOUS SERVICE OFFER.
Belated birthday present courtesy of my daughter. Enjoyable trip however a few minor issues thus being; tap in en suite didn’t work but was fixed whilst ashore. Treated to a meal in the Blue Ribbon Restaurant however the starter was slightly misleading as what was described as a salmon soufflé was in fact just a small piece of salmon.
My daughter was also very impressed with the choice of films being offered in the cinema unfortunately the ticket pricing was considerably high in comparison to what was actually offered
We had a great time. The cabin was clean and cosy and beds very comfortable. The prices in duty free and the restaurants were a bit steep so I'd recommend taking snacks and shopping wisely! Sadly due to passport control we had less than 5 hours in Amsterdam which was very disappointing but we still had a good time!
Both ships were very modern in design and the seating areas were nice relaxing places to be. Outbound, the duty free facilities were poor for such a large operator and inbound though much better, many items were out of stock which was disappointing.
Only real gripe was that on both ships, the toilet facilities had little privacy from the rest of the passengers - for some reason the entrance doors were wedged open and the design was such that there was little privacy for those inside.
Overall, good for getting across the water in comfort if you're not worried about duty free or privacy.
Boat arrived early at Dunkirk, embarkation quick. Boat only 1/3 full if that. Arrived Dover more or less on time. Coffee at Dunkirk lounge was dishwater for 2 euros. Arrival customs shed at Dover and the maze to get out is intimidating, grubby and a disgrace.
For the money a great deal.Have used before and will use again
This was our first time with DFDS so understandably we were a little aprehensive, we needn't have worried. 'Would you like to park near a lift sir?' My wife is a little unsteady.
The Dieppe Seaway was clean and well laid out, the food hall was a good experiance with hot food at a fair price. Plenty of comfortable seats both in the eating and lounge area. The ferry sailed and arrived on time and the return trip was just as good.
If I have one observation, and its not a criticism. How can you make it pay with so few passengers?
went on one day trip to amsterdam which been on before but this time when we got to amsterdam we were asked to pay 40 euros to board the bus to amsterdam ,even though we tried to explain and show the gentleman boarding the bus our email conformation saying transfers paid for .We were issued two tickets for our 40 euros and no one we spoke to could give us an answer as to why we had been charged 40 euros even when we got back on boat and went to customer services could nt get an answer .We were then told to go to booking office when we arrived back in newcastle but as it was a sunday it was shut felt totally ripped off it spoiled our whole break dont know how many other people getting charged for something meant to be included so beware !!!!!!
Check-in was a bit slow because of a shift change but no issues. My only complaint is that wifi is very slow on the boat - why can't it be good enough to access emails and (say) the BBC news website quickly? And you need to give an honest arrival time: we left pretty much dead on time but it took significantly longer than 2 hours from the nominal departure time to the arrival.
Had a great trip got to Dover 2 hours early and was offer'd the choice of an early boat at no extra cost.Best way to spend a mini Break 2 hour's in front. The crossing was good and smooth even thou the weather was bad. Had a nice Meal on the Ferry which was clean and tidy, did the crossword with a coffee and we were there. Always use DFDS
From boarding the ship, we felt well looked after and the staff on-board were always eager to help. The restaurants were of a high standard and good value for money. The entertainment was excellent, especially the band playing in the main lounge. We will be booking another trip.
I went on the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam. It was super off peak season so there weren't too many people, and at least one of the attractions on board was closed. I had a really good time. Some of the food, especially seafood, could have been better but the rest was awesome.
I would definitely do it again!
Had a 2 night mini trip to Amsterdam which was a most pleasant and relaxing experience. Plenty of time in Amsterdam and a free bus to and from the city centre from the port made things so easy. At £79 for two people it was excellent value for money. Food and drinks on board are very expensive but then you are a captive audience. You can take your own food but are only permitted to eat it in your cabin which is no hardship.
One downside is the possibility of groups of lads on a boozy minitrip being in the next cabin. We were unlucky and suffered drunks coming and going, shouting & swearing and playing music until 2-30am on the first night. A visit to guest services for the return trip saw us moved to another cabin for peace perfect peace.
This is the 2nd time i have travelled with dfds sea ways and really do not have a bad word to say about either trip. All staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast is lovely, there is something for everyone ie entertainment or cinema or casino, the cabins are as u expect, would definitely recommend and will be booking again soon.
I did not recieve a confirmation e-mail, although i had the sense to write down the booking number. I booked from a tablet that i could not print from. I have known, more than once, for the computer system to be not working at the ports and a printout in this case is required.
We booked this on the internet for an unbeatable price. DFDS seems on the face of it, to be more of a freight ferry than the competition. What we found was excellent tourist facilities with food and drinks on both upper and lower passenger decks, fore and aft, and a good shop. Also access to an open air viewing deck. Transport drivers have their own area and choose to go there, leaving plenty of passenger tables and seats with panoramic view through the side and front windows as you travel.
With a disabled member of the family, we emailed in advance and got a reply in five minutes! Without further question, we were obviously noticed and expected at both directions of our return journey, given first access to the car deck and parked right next to the lift (all floors access).
What more can I say? Perfect. Punctual too.
The ship is clean tidy.
The staff are helpful and friendly.
Theres enough foods and choice to accomodate everyone.
Quite space, night life, entertainment amd a kids area also.
The shop is amazing.
The cabins were spacious enough and clean and tidy and beds are really comfy.
I loved every minute of my trip and would love to do it again.
Unfortunately i didnt get to go to the blue ribamd resteraunt even though we paid for our meal i was very sea sick on journey home so i didnt get the chance to go so i would love the opportunity to go again
