worst company ever in history
sent my driver licence and NCB so many times, now I am still gettting threats of they will cancel my car insurance, and charge a £75 admin fee.
customer service truly awful, no one can contact them, they dont reply back to emails and when you do speak to them, they slam the phone down.
dont waste your money go elsewhere, they will just give you one long headache
i hope this company gets closed down
This has to be the worse company I've ever dealt with & I'm severely regretting not checking them out first, chose them from compare the market. For online only they have not grasped the use of email!
I'm in the process of trying to get my proof of no claims & driving license to them to no avail. Despite sending dozens of emails & then calling them at a quid a minute they tell me they have not received any emails from me, they continue to threaten cancellation!
The email addresses they provide for sending these things through are not actually monitored! If you email the docs normally you get nothing, if you email it with a delivery & read receipt you receive an automated reply stating the address is not monitored and you can only contact them via the contact us form. If you use this you receive an automated response.
I've now posted the docs special delivery & used the complaints email address but I'm expecting a nice cancellation charge in the next few days given everyone else's comments. Basically after that I would have paid half the policy. Hopefully trading standards will assist!
I've been insured with a number of insurance companies over my forty years of driving, but i've never come across one as blatently crooked as E Car, I took out the policy, and after finding out from a friend and disgusting internet reviews decided to cancel it one day later,.. I sent them an e mail that somehow managed to get through there bent system, they told me that when I return my insurance policy which they said will be posted out to me they will return any monies due back to me, I've since tried to contact them by both phone and e mails countless times to no avail, to say how can I return my insurance policy if they have never sent me one. it's almost impossible contact them, they must hope that people get fed up trying to contact them and give up, I hate getting ripped off as I wouldn't do it to anyone else, I'm going to write to my MP and anyone else who can help me because surely these guys shouldn't be allowed to do this to people.
And as for the two supposedly women who welcomed me to E car Holly and Emma it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't a Bert and an Alf,.... please stay clear.
WE SENT OF DOCUMENTS IE DRIVERS LICENCES AND NO CLAIMS DISCOUNT IN PLENTY OF TIME GOT EMAILS SAYING THEY NEVER RECIVED THEM SO POLICY WAS BEING CANCELLED ON THE 10TH APRIL 2013 I PHONED THEM ON THE 11TH THEY TOLD ME AND MY PARTNER WE WERE STILL INSURED NOT TO WORRY BUT THEY STILL DIDNRT HAVE OUR DOCUMENTS I CAME HOME TODAY (17TH APRIL 2013) TO FIND A LETTER FROM COMPANCY SAYING OUR INSURANCE WAS CANCELLED FROM THE 12TH APRIL 2013 THE LETTER WAS PRINTED ON THE 12TH APRIL 2013 THE POLICY WAS CANCELL THE SAME DAY THE LETTER WAS SENT OUT. I WAS DRIVING A WEEK WITH 4 CHILREN IN THE CAR YOUNGEST 8MONTHS WITH NO INSURANCE RAGING DOERS NOT COME CLOSE PHONED COMPANY UP THAY SAID THEY HAD OUR DOCUMENTS BUT BECAUSE THEY DIDNT GET THEM IN TIME THRY HAD TO CANCEL NOW WE HAVE TO PAY £75 CANCLLATION FEE
I agree with your views on e car.
The guy also hung up on me. They took the payment twice and would not refund without talking to my wife (it is her insurance) but my debit card.
Eventually I got the insurance sorted only to find out they failed to put it on the motor insurance database.
I had to get my wife to ring them from Southeast Asia before they would speak to me.
They are impossible to contact an impossible to sort problems out with but on top of this, they are very arrogant.
Now I have come to renew they want £475 compared to other companies wanting approximately £200.
All you see on their Facebook site on negative remarks! Why didn't I look there first?
Once bitten, twice shy!
Do not use this service .....EVER ...I took out car insurance sent in drivers license and proof of no claims, posted 2 copies and emailed twice, eventually had to send by signed for delivery... and now i have proof of receipt...They cancelled my policy after taking deposit and a months premium.. Leaving me stranded 300 miles from home with no cover.. I phoned their £1.02 per min helpline and although i was very polite and they admitted they had signed for my documents...They HUNG up on me !! call cost me £9.00...Just dont go there with this company... I feel totally stitched up.. If you have problems with Ecar get in touch with the ombudsman for car insurance..Do not let them get away with it !
Took a policy and told to send documents including NCD. Sent 5 times - confirmation email received from e car too. Later, receive an email saying my policy is cancelled - at my request !!!!
Try calling to discuss and have to ring a premium rate number at £1 per minute and guess what, no one can help me. Now have to pay a £75 cancellation charge and lose most of my payment.
I do not believe the good policy reviews listed below - more than likely e car (staff) trying to give themselves some credibility after legally ripping offer hundreds if not thousands of customers. PLEASE BE AWARE - USE AT YOUR OWN PERIL !!!!
I will be reporting the matter to both the FSA and Trading standards.
My Mum & I wish we had seen these reviews before purchasing. We got our policies early March 2013 on completely different dates. We sent our license copies/ no claims proof first class (on different dates). We both had emails claiming they had not received our documentation. We both found this strange so Mum rung them (£1 a minute!) only to be told they were "somewhere in the building". Mum scanned them this time and emailed them, but didn't have a response to say they had received them.
I then had a letter to say my NCD wasn't valid despite it being on headed paper from my previous insurance firm!
I have tried to cancel on their website & you simply can't, again, it's a way of getting you to call the £1 a minute number for assistance.
To my horror, ecar were on ITVs The Ferret last night for the same reasons we have has problems.
They are very clever! They take a hefty deposit then basically ignore you or say they havent received your dcuments so they can cancel your policy due to you not meeting their deadline and keep your money!
I found them on go compare so have written to them to advise them to check them out and remove them from their site, aswell as contacting ecar complaints, and the financial ombudsman.
All I want now is to cancel my polcy, as I am within my cooling off period but I am guessing they will make it as difficult as possible and the likely hood of getting my money back? I'm not holding out. To be honest I just wanna cancel, I can forget the £80 but won't touch the firm again.
A lesson learnt, I'll check out companies more carefully next time!
I'd rate them 0 if I could.
Seriously stay away!
Dodgy as, shouldn't be allowed to operate, they are scamming the customers big time!
The web page is basic but easy to follow. I like the idea of being able to make a couple of changes or add a new vehicle. I had no problems and I was good to go with my motorcycle insurance within a few minutes.
Really no problems, webpage is not the greatest but beside that .. paid, and got service back. Although didn't run in any troubles so had no experience with customer support. As far i can see, you get what you paid for. They increased fees on my last insurance so moved to new insurer.
Dont go near them!!!!!!
I took out the policy and it wasn't as they said it was!!!, so cancelled and out of a 218.00 deposit they refunded 128.00 taking money for fees for this and fees for that.
So far I am on my 8th email and their customer service is appalling. They require basic customer service training to start with as all they do is quote terms and conditions. They make money out of people cancelling their policy, very unprofessional company.
I have now taken my policy out directly with zenith it was 150,00 more but worth it, the company staff and policy is just as I wanted, no hidden fees if I cancel I get a full refund.
Hope this helps you make the right decision..... Thank you for reading
Last year my daughter took out a policy from them under my name because it was cheaper to do this.
Having sold her car she sent Ecar an email saying she wanted to cancel the policy. They replied back and said as long as she gave 19 days notice there would be no charge, which she did.
5 months later we recieve a letter from them asking us to pay £124 cancelation fee.
I phoned them up and their reply was (Its in the Terms and Conditions ) so we have to pay it.
I have never been charged a cancelation fee in all my time as a driver and in fact Swift cover when I was with them for my own car even gave me money back.
I will not be paying this fee and ecar are welcome to take it to court.
This kind of behaviour by trying to get people to pay more money for a service which they no longer use should be stopped and I will be contacting the OFT and the CAB about this company.
Thank you for posting your feedback people. Sadly I think you will find the newd I am about to tell you a bit distressing. .....companies like Ecar and various other fraudulent schemes pay the government, the FSA and customer protection ombudsmen, briefcases of money to turn a blind eye yo extortion and abuse of consumers. thr only way to get even is to make a duty to scam insurance companies back as much as possible. if Ecar grt shutdown a new company just like them will be up and running within hours. the only way forward is to rebel!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I had no problems with the policy at first until!!! I changed my vehicle details as I purchased a new car. All monies were paid and all DD were taken each month no problem. I then received a letter from the DVLA informing me my car is not insured and has not been in 5 months!! I spoke with different people who told me the policy was now changed. The new documents did not arrive so I went on to check my policy online yet again! Low and behold I find my policy has still not changed therefore I have been driving around with no insurance with a newborn baby and 8 year old unaware!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!! THEY ARE CONARTISTS WHO HAVE NO IDEA!!!! HANNAH MORRIS SENIOR ADVISOR YOU HAVE FAILED IN YOUR POLICY AND ROLL!! Thank god phone calls are recorded as I am reporting you to financial ombudsman and I will get my money back and an apology!!!!!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS INSURANCE GROUP UNLESS YOU WANT BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS!!!!
I recieved a reminder letter through the post on 03/01/13 stating if i do not send proof of no claims bonus and drivers license within 7 days my policy will be cancelled. Mind you i did not recieve any other letter or notification before this. So i call my previous insurer and ask them to send me my No claims bonus. They state it will take 3 to 5 working days through the post. (Fair play) So im going to recieve my documentation by the 11/01/13. Ecar state they will cancel policy on the 09/01/13 as the reminder letter is dated 02/01/13. Email 6 times to which i always get an automated response, call their premium contact line 10 times which charges £1.02 per minute (what a joke) to be disconnected each time. How the hell am I supposed to ask for a few extra days to send out my documents. Customer service is pure crap or should i say i doubt this company even has any employees by the look of it. GREAT ive been conned. im jobless and broke and thought that the cheapest insurance would work out best but i guess its just a conn. DO NOT USE THEM OR YOUR IN FOR A SHOCKING SURPRISE
I like the fact that you do not have to speak to anyone to buy a policy or make changes to an existing one.
I have my car and motorcycle insurance with this company and when I changed my bike it was very easy to update the policy myself with no admin charge incurred.
I would certainly recommend this company to my friends and family.
I have had a multibike policy with Ebike for some time now, if you are able to use the internet then they provide a very simple management system that will allow you to manage your account, switching bikes on the multibike policy is very easy which makes it possible to buy and sell bikes without the grief you can get from other companies.
In my case I have one lead bike which is pretty much at the top of the price range for insurance, this means that almost always (always in my case) swapping bikes on the policy has been free of extra costs, not even an admin charge. The policy coverage is excellent including european coverage. I had the missfortune of a spill in Sweden a few years ago, luckily I was able to get the bike rideable and get home, the repairs were swift and painless, and given that I have full no claims bonus the included protection saved me from losing the no claims bonus.
My only complaint about the policy is that breakdown cover is included as standard and can't be removed, as my wife and I also share a car that leaves us with an uncovered vehicle so we need sepperate RAC coverage which we have to pay for on top of the included one for the bike. I would prefer to drop this option and save a few pounds but don't have that option.
In summary it's a great policy that you manage yourself, which gives you plenty of scope to get the best out of your insurance.
I've used ecar insurance ever since I passed my driving test 5 years ago. The policy is easy to understand and I have never been left with missing documents or information like other insurers I have heard about. I have been involved in a non fault accident and immediately called the given phone number, I could not have asked for a better or efficient service. My renewal is always very simple and seamless from one year to the next. I pay by 9 monthly instalments which spreads the cost and I find very helpful as I have a young family. All in all I have no found fault with ecar insurance and would recommend to friends and family.
*ive only just looked at these other reviews and I am truly shocked as I have never had any problems at all and I knew right from the beginning that ecar insurance is a web only based insurance company unless there has been an accident which suites me fine!
i cancelled my insurance 3 months ago!!! becuz i sold my car anyhow i decided to check my bank statement only to find out they where taking more money that they shouldnt have taken ive rang them up a number of times ive lost count!!!! i was 1st told dat a refund will be sent out 2months down the line its still not arrived when i told them they have taken more money out they said send my bank statements in which i have done twice now so i ranf them again and guess what WE HAVNT RECIEVED THEM.. then i said i would email it to them sent the same email out to 4 diffrent people and guess what WE HAVENT RECIEVED IT!!! so i asked to speak to a manager get put on hold then i get cut off this has happend 3 times in the space of 15minutes they owe me over £700 which they took out and now are deniying it.. its a good job i have bank statements to prove it.... i think ihave waited long enough to get it sorted and i think i am going to get intouch the BBC CRIME WATCH THIS IS A SCAM BE WARNED YOU ARE BEING SKANKED IN EVERY SINGLE WAY POSSIBLE STAY AWAYYY

This is the email I sent them:
I took car Insurance out with you on oct 2nd 2012. I was in contact with you by phone regarding the fact I was not able to supply you with my documents in time. This was my tough luck and you were completely unhelpful and I accepted the fact my insurance would be cancelled as I was told it would be. However, I received a letter by recorded delivery a few days later stating I had 7 days extension from date of letter to send my documents which I did so on the 7th day by email. I have proof of this. I sent you numerous emails which I also have proof of and not once was I ever contacted. So, you continue to take my monthly premium out of my bank account and I presume that you have received my documents (otherwise my policy would have been cancelled after the 7th day like you stated). I check my online account and it shows the policy is active so I am reassured that all must be well. I then receive a letter through the post on Saturday 15th December (never opened it until the 16th) which stated my insurance had been cancelled from the 6th dec 2012 without Any reason and requesting a £75 cancellation fee for the privilege. This means I was driving uninsured for 10 days having paid for cover. My last instalment before this was the 19th nov 2012. Please explain to me what is going on. I will not be paying the £75 fee. Trading standards will be sent a copy of this email in the morning. I look forward to hearing from you although I doubt I will.

ok if you haven't got the idea by now, DO NOT USE ECAR!! unfortunately I didn't have the foresight of these reviews!! to cut a long story short, I took out a policy with them, within about 2 weeks of starting the policy we too got bombarded to submit proof, which was done by email and confirmed at the start of the policy! then they decided to put the price up, by £400!!! at the time I did not have enough money to chance insurance providers so had to continue with the monthly payments which started at around £56, later rising to £99.28, then we were told that we would be getting a refund taking the monthly payments down to £46 then another letter to say no, sorry, your monthly payments will remain £99.28. Ok so grumble grumble we carried on paying. Then when we moved to a better area, with driveway, cul-de-sac etc I contacted eCar to change the details (needless to say I haven't rung them once as their call charges are just unrealistic!) you can do changes online and it gives you a quote.. so proceeded to do this, to find out that an additional £150 would be required to make the change!! (not including the standard £30 odd change to policy fee) so i decided to get quotes from elsewhere. Having done this I found a quote for £60 per month!! I therefore cancelled my policy but of course the online quotation wouldn't say if I would be owed or if I would owe money. However, having paid the monthly premium on 29th October and being a months payment in advance and my policy ending on the 29th October I presumed (Stupidly) that I would be getting money back from them and the premium would cover the £75 cancellation fee.... ooo no.. like getting blood from a stone!! I've now received a letter saying I owe them £51.66 and to call their £1.50 per min number to make payment!!!! absolutely fuming..... Needless to say I am now going through all the paperwork and will be making a complaint to trading standards or the motor ombudsman (if there is one!!) absolutely atrocious! also non of my correspondence has ever had a reasonable reply, only directed me to their website! when my change of details quotation was received I sent an email to their customer services and was directed to their website, no help what so ever as it would have required someone to talk to me and go through the file to resolve the issue!!
Refusing now to call ecar, cost my husband £13 to call them the other day and me £8. They aren't open on Saturdays so not convenient for working folk.
Trying to change policy and want to speak to someone, sent to emails via their website and heard nothing.
Asked about cancelling policy and that's going to cost £155 at least! Spoke to someone there about cancelling and I chose the cancel my policy option and he said there might be other costs but he couldn't say what as it wasn't his department!!!???
Avoid ecar like E.coli. In fact I would avoid any purely online company. It pays to be able to speak to someone.
Something should be done about this company, especially their extortionate call costs.
If we all contact trading standards maybe they will have to do something.
This company is not only the hardest company to get a hold of, but they are the small print masters. Conning me out of a massive 1/3 of my annual price of my insurance in just 16 days from starting the policy.
If you are considering this company because they're cheap? They aren't when you try to phone them... ON A 0906 NUMBER. £1.00 PER MINUTE.
Credit to the Financial Ombudsman on this one, had to get them involved because every letter eCar and Panacea Finance Lmt sent was contradicting the previous or the next I opened. The finance agreement was sent 7 days before I received it... and the best part is... "the information in this letter is only valid for 7 days from the date of this letter" (quoted purposely!) Absolute nightmare.
Now, I have upgraded my car, little bit newer, and due to my age being only18 and just a new driver, I expect my insurance to be pricy and these guys seem the only option. THINK AGAIN!!! I can get the EXACT same policy, EXACT same cover and the EXACT same price...... the only difference....... my newer company are a lot more favoured!!!
Compare websites are a certain option when it comes to insurance for young drivers!! eCar... wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
Ecar are basically pikeys with a business mind, lost all my money when I paid for my insurance in may 2012, after 10 days of phone calls and arguments I managed to get insurance and £200 compensation. Today (14th november 2012)I get a letter saying that I've not sent any ncd proof, and that my insurance will be stopped on the 15th of July 2012! When talking to the bloke at ecar he had no idea what I was on about, nothing but trouble and quite frankly they need to be dissolved as a company!
So many things have gone wrong just buying a policy and then trying to cancel it after 3 months it would take me a week to type this post. Absolutely appalling, no customer service, appear to keep no records of communication. Terrible. Avoid like the plague.
This company should be avoided if at all possible. I have written a long complaint on this company detailing my experience with them, but for the purposes of this review I will try to keep it short.
They request certain documents within 23 days or they impose fines on you and cancel your policy. No complaints so far. HOWEVER, they when you post this to them they seem to mysteriously not receive it. You try and contact them, but they are VERY hard to get hold of and the email system does not help you at all (it's almost as if that is deliberate).
My advice to anyone who has just signed up or someone who is in the position I was in, where eCar was the only affordable insurance option, is:
- As soon as your policy begins, send all the required documents by recorded delivery to the address given. It MUST be recorded delivery, or else they will deny it ever arrived.
- Then keep checking on the Royal Mail website and as soon as you can see it has been delivered, phone their helpdesk on 01454 634 887 and get verbal confirmation that your documents have been validated, and request an email confirmation too. Don't ring the premium 09 number as they never pick up and it will cost you a bomb - almost as much as the insurance!
Good luck, and don't let these guys take your money unfairly!
I'm having an absolute nightmare with eCar.
I'm on secondment in Zagreb and remembered that my road tax was up for renewal. When trying to renew online, my car was appearing as uninsured on the MID.
I first spoke to someone at eCar customer services 2 weeks ago. I was told that they were unsure why my insurance file was not sent to the MID to upload. When I asked for an update, I didn't hear anything back.
Which then led me to their complaints department, who were, if anything more useless. Again, I had an apology, but when trying to get an update, heard nothing by phone or email.
I called this morning and spoke to another girl in customer services. I asked her to send me a copy of my insurance certificate, so when I got back to the UK (providing my car has not been clamped in the meantime) I could get a new tax disc from the post office. I received my insurance certificate a few moments later only to realise that despite being quick enough to take the money out of my bank account, the start AND end date on my insurance certificate is the same day in the same year.
I'm absolutely fuming - being abroad and not able to sort this in person is the most frustrating thing in the world. Not to mention, when I asked them to send me information about how to cancel my policy, they told me I would be charged as I'm in contract.
My only hope is a guy called Michael who I spoke to just now.. I'm praying he's able to help me sort this out. But the fact it's been going on for weeks now and not even the complaints department are taking this seriously doesn't leave me with much hope.
Stay clear of this company.
This company is without doubt the hardest company to get in touch with. You can never get to speak to anyone in customer services if you have a problem, which invariably, you do.
There is a PREMIUM RATE PHONE NUMBER for you to use that cuts off after you listen to the recorded message for ages.
The only way to communicate with them is through e.mail via their website. VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND AND USE.
When you do eventually manage to send them an e.mail, it may take up to 4/5 days for them to deal with it.
They may be cheap, but soon rack up extra payments from you if there are any problems. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE.
where to start my partner insured our previous car with e car and we had the mis fortune to break down so we called rac and told sorry your not covered hold on a minute our policy says rac cover unfortunately this is before 9 am so we hold on and eventually get hold of e car 40 minutes later we call rac hey presto we are covered, and think nothing of it 7 months later sunday evening our car overheats so we call rac guess what were not covered and cant be rescued so we call there other number and get told yes we can rescue you but its a £109 CALL OUT FEE AND £300 to tow us back to devon which we cant afford so we make our way 200 miles on a roads filling up with water and letting the car cool down and arrive home 8 hours later, right lets phone e car premium rate number speaking to some idiot who keeps going well i am sorry but what can we do can you e mail us and then call us e mail them call them again and speak to some snotty woman who tells me that we are covered and its the rac s fault so i bring up the first incident coincidence i think not so as a result i go well your in default on your policy and will go to fsa and ombudsman get told go on company web site and put official complaint in,which i have done so i then contact rac and eal the two recovery services to find out that we are still not covered strange then rac drop the bombshell they havent had any vehicle details from e car surprised not and e car have informed them that if some one phones for recovery its has to be a credit card recovery robbing sods and then to be told well you were offered this service so we feel we have provided the service offered is taking the mick ombudsman here we come
Bought a policy in 2010, then again in 2011, this year quote was too high so went with someone else, been trying to get proof of my NCD, have sent 4 emails, written to the complaints department but no-one seems to want to reply, new insurance co. are now threatening to cancel unless this is received.
E-car insurance, have the worst customer service I have ever come across, will never ever use again, and will recommend no-one touches them with a barge pole.... they won't be long in business with this level of service!!
Time to get in touch with the financial ombudsman over this!!!
This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The prices are low as they obviously have no intention of insuring your vehicle. Paid the normal deposit, sent all relevant forms ( more than any other insurance company requires - copies of drivers licences x 2 etc ) They then send you a notice of cancellation, even though they have received the relevant info ( and have confirmed in writing/e mail ) They try to charge £1 per minute to speak to someone and now looking at all of the forums you can see this is actually a scam. So they get a couple of hundred pounds up front, then cancel your policy without providing the right level of refund. Please, please, please, read all of the negative reviews and DO NOT use this rip off company.
If you havnt purchased you insurance with ecar yet i would highly recommend that you didn't !
BUT if you have....I hope this email helps you and saves you the stress that it caused me
Purchased my policy through confused.com, was told to email copies of my NCD and license, So I did. Two days after my policy was taken out I received a phone call asking if they could verify my details with both my previous insurers and DVLA while I was on the phone so that i didn't have to email the copies. I agreed even though I had already sent the emails. Everything was verified....all good yes? NO they then started bombarding me with emails and letters saying they were going to cancel my policy with in so many days because I hadn't verified my proof?????(i would be charged a cancelation fee £75 a months insurance and commission fee! So i was going to call before I see the price!!!! so again I emailed over my proof.....in total I emailed it 6 times. Every time I emailed I received a response from a computer generated email ( we have received your email but it does not state your NCD) BUT it did, i sent emails to three different addresses stating my problems, no reply from one and the other just sent out a generated email saying the same thing. Frustrated I gave in and tried to call-45mins later I gave in and put the phone down! I then posted my copies of proof (recorded delivery) again no reply! Every time I called I was told by a computer to wait because they were experiencing a high number of calls...I simply could afford to stay on the line. I emailed asking for help again no reply. In the end i thought thats it im going to loose the policy and my money!
until today! MASSIVE THANKS TO DAVE AT TRADING STANDARDS! I sent and email expressing my concerns along with proof of my NCD, within an hour he called me asked me a few questions and confirmed there did seem to be some sort of scam conspiracy about ecar insurance on the web. He then emails them for me. WELL WELL WELL with in two hours I received a phone call confirming that they did have my NCD proof :) I asked them to send me email confirmation while I was on the phone (I was to scared to put the phone down in case they never confirmed and i had no proof) "thank the lord for the iPhone" checked my email before the conversation ended. the call was from Charlotte form customer service journey department she was polite however when i asked why my NCD had been verified before she simply stated that she had found it in the spam box...note that I did get computer generated emails back (well thats fancy a spam folder that sends out computer generated emails that can also read attached files)
At the moment Im relieved however I keep an eye on my policy because i have read that other people have still had it canceled with out even knowing!
So anyone with the same problem I would recommend these steps.
If you have had the phone call to confirm and verify your details
Still send photocopies via email. IF you get back an email saying its not proof. I would then send the same emails with your proofs to all departments including the complaints.
while waiting for proof I would also recommend to send via post recorded delivery. (build the evidence) prints the emails, keep your post receipts and documents the names of people you speak to on the phone and the dates and times. If you then start to receive threats to cancel your policy.
You then contact your local trading standards office and ask them for help.....AND HAPPY DAYS your proof will then be verified!
and then you also have the evidence of all the contact you have tried to make (incase they one day decide to cancel your policy...yes it has happened to some people!)
all my evidence sits in a draw at home correctly filed incase they do one day decide to TRY and scam me again!
Trading standards also emailed me to see if the matter had been sorted! amazing service!!!!!!
e car are discraseful. they may seem the cheepest on the surface, but god help you if you have a problem that there rubbish web site can not sort. iv added all calls up and total bill £130!!!!!!! This was because i changed my car and insurance changed then they changed it back to my old car!!!! This took 3 days to resolve.....3 days of no insurance and no refund!!!! PLEASE BEWARE it may end up costing alot more!!
I had nothing but problems from day one with them. They are almost impossible to speak to and are poorly organised, have terrible customer service skills and don't seem to communicate at all between departments. I spent months telling them they had my no claims proof but they kept saying they hadn't and tried to charge me more money until i got trading standards involved, when, suddenly, the documents appeared. Then they closed my claim for the same reason months later without my knowledge. I was then pulled by police for having no insurance and when the police called them they said they had no records of me. I had my car impoinded and face prosecution. I would advise anyone looking for car insurance to never, ever, ever use this company.
I too am experiencing many problems with e Car. Like others here, I have had massive hassle over copies of driving licence and No Claims...all sent, but they wouldn';t accept for varied reasons...non valid...eventually they charged me almost twice as much for the policy as originally agreed. I have received the same threats of cancellation fees etc etc. Today, I have a puncture, so called the RAC with whom I am covered for At Home breakdowns according to my E Car policy. They have no record of me. I called the breakdown service from E Cars website...cost £10, they havent heard of me either. But they do have another car (belonging to someone else) registered to my address. I called another number for ecar but the service is not in operation at the moment, please try later. I emailed them...but they say they are very busy and will answer me in 3 days. This is the EMERGENCY breakdown cover that I pay them for!!! I am a woman alone in an isolated country farm. I cannot change the wheel as the nuts have been put on by machine. and, it is a big LandRover. E car really need to sort themselves out. I will be making a complaint if I do not get a helpful answer very shortly. And, I would dearly love to reclaim the money spent on fruitless phone calls. and my wasted time, and inconvenience. I cannot even get out to buy food.
Has anyone here had any joy at all with complaints against this company?
Here is the letter I sent them.
Dear eCar Insurance
So I wanted some short term car insurance so I take out a PAYG thingy policy with you people. Then you ask for driving licenses and No Claims Discount, I note with interst my last three insurers didn't need this stuff. Then your email server is shocking and spits back many emails and chaos reigns.
Finally I get it to accept my emails and then you refuse my NCD letter on spurious grounds, but do accept my driving license scans. So I think stuff it I will go elsewhere this is too hard. Meanwhile you send me warning emails threatening £75 cancelllation charges (Have you heard of the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977?) saying I haven't sent my driving licences or NCD proof as the guy in Gavin and Stacey would say "whats occurin" . So I email you to cancel and hear nothing and try and cancel online but it won't let me because you haven't approved my NCD letter.
Then I waste 10 minutes on the number you supply on hold and don't get through to a human. Frankly its like Fawlty Towers or some bizzare Kafkaesque film. A more cynical view is that this is all deliberate and a money making scam. The forum thread about you on moneysavingexpert.com suggest I am not alone in experienceing problems in dealing with you.
What I want
I want you to confirm that this policy is cancelled. I have now got a way better deal with LV more fool me for not taking the internets word on your shocking level of service.
I want £10 for being kept on hold on your number, if you are going to charge that price you need to answer it.
I want you to refund me my money for the days I have not had cover, because of your inept business practices and shocking service.
What I will do meanwhile
Contact Money matters at the Guardian. They went into bat and won against the Student Loans Company on my behalf and won.
Blog this letter and tell my friends.
Wait 8 weeks from today and go to the Financial Services Obudsman to reclaim my costs and time. I believe that will cost you £500 before we even get started. I have put a reminder on my calender.
I cannot choose a rating as they do not come with a minus before them!
Oh it seems before I can place the review I do have to choose a rating - please be aware that there should be a minus sign before the rating I have given this company
Please like the other reviewers do not and I repeat not deal with this company.
I have now cancelled the car insurance policy I bought and would rather pay a cancellation fee than have to deal with them ever again.
How they have won an award beats me!
