Ecrater enables Sellers to set up their own site / page, enabling them to upload their logo, pictures and to connect with the stores facebook page. It also enables sellers to accept credit card payments through Stripe, or simply through Paypal and google checkout. Ecrater uploads all listings to itsmarketplaces (US, UK, AU), but also sends them to Google Shopping for free as well as allowing sellers to import listings from ebay. However unlike bigger market places, you have to sponsor your site by your self, and you can do so by connecting your store through Adwords and Facebook, meaning you can sponsor your site (this is not free however). You can upload your listings for free, and they will stay there until they are sold out (unless you remove them), and they will charge a small fee only if you sell your product. Now this all sounds great however there are some slight disadvantages to ecrater compared to other sites. It does take a while to start selling products, especially if you don't sponsor your page. It also does take some time to set up your store, and some IT knowledge is needed. Sellers are not allowed to leave feedbacks to buyers, and often people forget they have listings on ecrater as they do not time out, so ALWAYS check that you are buying from an active seller by emailing them first and by checking their feedback. Unfortunately the ability to personalize your own site is limited, and they have a fairly old looking interface (looks like its from the 90's) however the ecrater team is always bringing up new updates, and I am sure that they will soon update the looks of the sellers sites, as the have already done with the market places. Overall I find that ecrater is a great alternative to ebay and amazon, less fees, and more freedom for sellers (ebay sellers will understand me here) and I definitely would racomend it to everyone! happy selling from Maerg2014 :)
I have spent many hours uploading a massive load of pics for items. hundreds of hit. Store officially opened yesterday! HOWEVER, over a hundred emails in 24 hrs saying they can not buy because paypal express pymt option has been disabled for this merchant. Seriously ticked off! Emailed hours ago, and seems to take 24 hrs to get a response. Was very excited to start but the constant issues and my customers not being able to purchase is a big delay. What is going on!
I still give 5 stars because it is easy to use I thought. Just frustrated now and waiting for response to my customers can buy!
1) If sales are slow, it at least gives me a place to "park" several thousand items at no cost. That way the descriptions are written and the photos done and subject to an occasional sale (which seem to occur in spurts).
2) If I feel an item might move better else where (such as when eBay offers free listing cost fees), I simply "hide" it on eCarter and move it over to Ebay or elsewhere for the duration of the special rates. If it doesn't sell, then I just UNhide it back into stock on eCrater.
3) We're now building our own web site (the web sites I design which will incorporate the eCrater listings (essentially using eCrater as our shopping cart). That way, search ranking is up to me and not reliant on the effort of the venue.
4) The only problem I've had with eCrater is over the listing of mammoth ivory (which is legal to buy and sell). They don't seem to understand the difference between endangered and extinct, but you would expect that from Generation X'ers. Not a big deal, not a mainstay of my sales anyway. Not going to kill me delisting four items out of the more than 2,000 posted.
5) Sales are what they are. Nothing to get all bubbly over, Lackluster at best. But once I have each item keyed into a stand-alone web site, could get interesting.
6) Their support forum is excellent if you have the time and patience to mull over it all. Usually at least a fellow seller is quick to respond if they know the answer. I have contacted eCrater staff with suggestions and they have been quick to respond and even implemented a couple of them (regarding subcatergory suggestions).
7) I would suggest the shot gun approach to selling. Maintain a shop on all free sites that only charge a sales commission, and ultimately move towards the one that serves your type of stock the best, and always maintain a well metatagged web site as your base of operations.
This little updated sellers shopping cart is no longer free for sellers. It does not allow sellers to use any HTML of any king, no links or embedded pictures or videos. The software behind this is like a early generation of a Bulletin Board or Web ring - it;s just OLD and TIRED - Just look at the early 1990's era look and feel of the place. Seller are forced to use either a shipping "Matrix" that is very hard to understand and to set up and even if you get to figure it out it will only work if everything you sell is treated exactly the same. Example - if you sell a frying pan the matrix uses your (not web updated for shipper) entered shipping rates per unit of measure + the shipping zone to come to a shipping charge but if you also list a book for sale the obsolete software will ONLY use the same matrix to figure shipping cost and NOT USPS "Media Mail" or you could set you shipping to USPS only but then you have to set each USPS service you want to use for the ENTIRE store. That means if you sell a frying pan and the buyer selects "MEDIA MAIL" the will BUY and PAY to ship that frying pan via USPS Media Mail (really cheap) BUT the seller can NOT ship at Media Mail Rates and either has to CANCEL the sale, SEND and ADDITION INVOICE, or just EAT THE COST ! - This is NO WAY to run a business BUT the OWNER of ECrater, Demitri Something treats this more like a "Part TIme" HOBBY than a like a REAL BUSINESS that care about it users - buyers or sellers, Oh that right Demitri HAS a FULL TIME DAY JOB and it's NOT Ecrater ! My opinion after several years for using Ecrater as a seller is IT IS A WASTE OF TIME as it is and has been since DAY ONE.
Everyone here is typing in caps saying "ECREATER IS A SCAM!!!!1111" and just blaming the company. If you haven't noticed, They're not doing anything wrong to you all, they're doing their job -- Providing a marketplace for sellers and shoppers to use.
Well, for starters you guys are buying from a, now repeat after me, a SELLER. Not the SITE itself. This works just like eBay, Etsy, Amazon Marketplace, etc. So, you need to look at it that way instead of whining to the site. It's the seller you need to keep an eye on. The site and the people isn't doing anything wrong. Don't end up getting all pissed at them, now.
For those of you that obviously have no idea how to work things like this, Here is a good way to figure out of a seller is legit or not: 1. Look at the reviews. They're there for a bloody reason. They're not there because they just are. They're there so you can know what to expect out of your order and experience. 2. Look at the satisfaction rate. What I do for sites like these is that if it has a rate of being around at least 90 or higher, then I go with it. If not, then I skip it and keep looking until I find a seller with good reviews and a good rate.
And plus, someone even said that there is a buyer protection with PayPal. Why not use those instead of whining like a baby? Like, aren't half of you adults or something?
Now, with all honesty, I have NEVER used eCreater before, but I know what to expect. It's simply like eBay, so I treated as if it was eBay or even Taobao because of the amount of Chinese sellers.
That's another thing. Sellers from China. Now those, you REALLY need to look out for. Some are terrible scammers and if you aren't paying attention they'll take your money and you will never get your item. This site is mainly Chinese sellers anyway, so it really isn't any different from eBay and other sites.
Now, I'm not saying this site is trustworthy, just try to do research on it a bit more and actually pay attention to the seller's information (Like the satisfaction rate, where the item is shipping from, etc.) instead of the super duper shiny things you see. Heck, contact the seller if you're not sure about it. That's why it says CONTACT THE SELLER.
Now, if all this fails and you (Apparently) STILL end up getting scammed, then I don't know what to say.
And also, about the thing where they're making you pay to have a store, it's their way of getting money and keeping the site up and running. If you don't want to open a store that costs money, that's why Storenvy was made. Use it.
I joined eCRATER a couple months ago i added over 1500 items that took me a long time and a lot of work to do this as anyone that sells online fully knows. I have hundreds of hits but not 1 sale nothing at all, So i figured with it being free would just keep my items up to date and if i get a sale i get a sale if not i have my other sebsite jwwholesalegifts.com that i own, Well now comes the real problems i bought a PS4 and listed it on my sites and here on eCRATER, after a day or 2 i get a letter telling me to show a receipt or i am commtting Fraud, I took this as a personal insult in the way they asked to see a receipt and replied in kind with a copy of the receipt but told them they should really look at other people selling the same items from the same supplier that i was since i was seeing items that have been out of stock and discontinued for months still listed for sale and if someone buys one of those items the seller can not fill the order that it would be considered Fraud also. I was then sent an email telling me how i should list my PS4 and my other items i told them to buy my PS$ and relist it if they wanted to see it listed the way they said would be better, I then get another email telling me that i was in violation of policy since i was selling items from a dropship network and that i would have to remove all items from that supplier or have my account suspended, i asked them if everyone was going to have to remove items they are selling from the same supplier or was i special and i never got a reply. Well today they suspended my account and will be allowing all the other sellers that sell from a dropshipping network as they call it to keep selling anything they want to sell. I guess they just do not like the idea of having a Disabled US Army Veteran selling on it's site that will stand up to them and fight back when falsely accused of something that was not true to start with.
Join them if you dare
This site is not worth it and i am hoping it will fall flat and go offline.
These guys are creeps. This is what they did they offered a free service waiting until thousands of merchants load all kinds of items on their site. Then they tell the merchant we are going to start charging a fee for the service. So what is the merchant suppose to say after loading hundreds and thousands of items on their site. So the merchant excepts the fee. I believe this was a planned by them. Then after years of annoucing your site which has part of their name on it all over the web and on t'shirts, etc. They send you email and after loading thousands of products on their site. They send email we don't want your service anymore. The merchant did nothing wrong and their is no customer complaint. Just some crazy new rules they got. And they just drop your service without any warning at all to the merchant. This was the only email we got from them. They are also creeps because stores like ebay ,amazon stand behind the merchants and customers on the site. They just don't leave it up to Paypal to resolve the matter in hand. I wouldn't recommend a service like this to anyone. I got a feeling it just some computer nerd in some apartment suite trying to be famous. If you have complaints about this service you should report them to the better business bureau and also you can report them to the federal Trade commission. Unfair business practice like this one people should speak out so no one else gets to be a victim of their unfair and unlawful business practice. These people are CREEPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We are going to go legal with them. This is a horrible way of doing business. You don't treat people that way and then just don't care. Businesses work hard to try and make a buck and they just don't care. They just care about themselves. They don't even care about the customers. And you can clearly see that with all the negative replies about them. Customers work hard also to make a living. We don't know what the outcome will be when we proceed with this but hoping to shut them down. We are trying to find their address: We have the address on their site, but unsure this is real. The phone number 949-378-2444 doesn't work. We can't find that street name nowhere in Ca. Also when you type in Ecrater for the better business bureau a company comes up that's been closed. But when we type in ecrater 1373 spectrum we find them. It's funny but this one has no complaints and I find that hard to believe. So if you want to file a complaint with the better business bureau thats the way you have to type it in to find them. I have a feeling this somehow was planned by them.Maybe thats why their are two ecraters on bbb. One that is closed and one that is open. We tried to contact them to get their address but they now just ignore me. Maybe they are laughing at all the merchants they hurt and all the customers.
All the reviews that are dated before 9/1/13 stating that Ecrater is free is false. They no longer apply on the web if your looking for info. regarding Ecrater.com. Yes! It is no longer free. They are now charging 2.9% for anyone that goes to ecrater and makes a purchase. That is the same amount that the credit card companies charge. They will tell you that you do not have to pay however, you will become invisible in search. Here is the quote I received in a email from Ecrater ISN'T ECRATER FREE? --------------------------------- (Paying your marketplace cost is recommended but not required. If you choose to not pay, we will not suspend your account for this. We will decrease your ranking in the marketplace or may completely remove your products from there and we may not feed your items to Google Shopping. However your store will remain active and operational.) Anyone that sells on the internet knows that this basically means Lights Out for attracting new customers. It means that existing customers can still buy from you on ecrater. Your site will be buried in search! The reason for charging according to the email that I received is to cover advertising cost. I have searched items on the net many times in the past 2 months and have not been directed to Ecrater. in a search. Seems to me a explanation is forth coming. I hate to say it, but it looks like it is the old bait & switch. Once you get many people signed up, the rules somehow change and they start charging. It looks like they adopted a page out of Ebays playbook. LET THE SELLER BEWARE!
Well all I can say it works for me! Selling on eCrater for about four months now, with 2-4 sells per month. All though it is, like trying to promote a personal website and takes time and WORK a direction of force. It does help pay for my high speed internet and it is a challenge! Read the forums on ecrater, it helps with the learning curve.
I think a lot of us sellers on ecrater come from big selling venues like ebay and amazon. I cannot expect to get the instant gratification on ecrater, like the selling I did with the big guy's auction sites. But none the less if you work it some profit will come out of selling on ecrater. Remember the old saying delayed gratification? What I realized is this. It is a store and in the store I need to have inventory, always adding, updating and the big one is promoting my store. Yes, it is a lot of work and it is starting to work. The gratifying moments will come in time if you work it.
Also I had to do a mind set. At eCrater, I am on my own! There is no Big Brother ( ebay or Amazon) promoting my listings for me, but at the same time using Big Brother to my advantage when I can. Ecrater is just another selling venue I can use and learn. And at very little cost to me! Fred… Just Google it! “itsmygaragesales”
I've been selling, trying to that is, for a few years on ecrater. Ecrater sellers listing pages don't accept or allow HTML of any kind. It's like v1.0 BETA or 1990's era OLD software that nobody has taken the time to improve. The owner has made a few very minor tweaks and additions but overall the entire site is very OLD and Disfunctional at best. Page hits are few, ecraters current system news is always old, the rediculious shipping "matrix' IS BEYOND BROKEN and if you ask why you get barked at by the owners "tool" excuse makers. Buyers probably can find some deals here because sales are slow. The only good thing is it is free to list and only a fee if ecrater bring you the customer directly. I'm looking for alts to ecrater - its just not worth the time it takes to do listings there.
I have sold there for several years and love it. It is easy to understand and if you read and follow the rules, things are fine. They recently just started charging for sales made in the marketplace, but having to pay a minimal fee is fine with me. It certainly beats other marketplaces in that area. No listing fees, no final value fees, just the one fee only if it happens in the mp. If they buy in your store, you just have pp fees.
Of course there are bad sellers everywhere. But if you take the time to look at the store you are buying in, check to see if it is completely filled out, see if it has been updated recently.. You wouldn't go into a store in the mall that has laptops on folding tables with no registers. Just use common sense and don't let one bad seller turn you off of the site. There are many quality sellers there, and I am proud to be one.
Came across eCrater a year ago while looking for a specific collectable item. That seller has better than fair price on most of his products and accept PayPal. So I gave it a try and paid with credit card thru PayPal for the extra buyer protection. The purchase came through flawlessly.
Recently with all the fees hike on eBay and Amazon, I decided to take a look at what does eCrater really offer and found out that there is barely any fee for sellers so I opened an account and listed everything I got on eBay onto eCrater with a small discount (huge discount compare to my Amazon listings). The shipping set up took me more than a while to get it right, but the result is quite satisfying.
Currently I am getting about the 15 to 20% of my products sold thru eCrater, another 20% thru Amazon which has the most illiterate, ignorant, or downright retarded customers in the world. While the rest still move thru eBay. But consider that each month I pay both eBay and Amazon over $100 each (not counting PayPal fee) while only cost me 10 bucks a month on eCrater (not counting PayPal fee also), opening this account was the smartest thing I've done in the last few months.
Other than the shipping setup, there is another short coming on eCrater. In order for me to have my listing to show up on eCrater UK or eCrater AU, I must accept their currency which means I must let PayPal gouge me another extra fee. But to be honest, I rather pay that extra fee to eCrater than PayPal if they allow US$ on UK and AU site.
I have had one transaction with ecrator,.. Needless to say this will be my last ,.. I paid for a laptop on one of their store sites ... I paid for it thru PayPal ... I sent the seller requests for estimated ship date and never heard response so after 4 days I called the merchant directly and the phone was disconnected ... I immediately contacted PayPal and ecrator ,.. PayPal immediately opened a claim and is helping me get my money Back ... I got a email from ecrator saying that although the store was active when I placed the order it was now inactive and under investigation ... Contact PayPal and my bank ... Good luck ......
I have actually used the site to buy plants and garden decorations for my home and I have NEVER had a problem with the site as far as a buyer goes with product or with the sellers.
I mostly use the site as a seller and I have had a WONDERFUL time using it! It takes a few things to really get the site and items going but that is just technical like google key word thing. Its a free site and it allows you to choose what form of payment you accept. If you don't pay using paypal then buyers can't leave feedback at the moment. I am hoping that they make it so all buyers reguardless of how they pay for items can leave feedback at some point. Once that happens it would be a better selection of proof that the sellers are being reliable.
Until then I would look at the selection and when the update happened. Just because the seller doesn't have a lot of feedback doesn't mean they aren't selling or people aren't happy. I send a message after every transaction asking if when item arrives if they would please leave feedback for items they purchased and let me know their items arrived. Alas even with that people just aren't courteous about leaving feedback good or bad anymore. They buy the item and then are never heard from again.
I would research your sellers, check out their pages, see what they are or who they are, read reviews/feedback, check for last update, things like this. From there ask yourself a few questions. Do they have links to other places with current or a bunch of feedback that you can see what kind of track record they have? If so, check those links, feedbacks out. See what they have for reviews. Are they known online..? Would people recommend them? From there make an informed decision. I list all my places of feedback as I am active on a few other places and not just here since I have so many items for sale. I had personally been selling items on ebay and the other places for years before I ever heard of ecrater.
I am one of the honest sellers that are out there and there are many of us. Do NOT lump us all in the same boat and label ecrater as a bad site just because you didn't research enough on your seller.
These new seller complaints, are pretty far off base. Some selling website isn't going to hold your hand and give you money in 5 minutes, sheesh.
If you LOOK you can tell if a store owner sucks almost right away, no terms, or no contact, no logo, really bad descriptions of items, terrible pictures, bad or no feedback. Follow that and you will be finding some of the best sellers on the net,
Take a look at the bottom of the page to see "last updated" if they havn't worked on their store for more than 1 or max 2 months, click away.
