I have several accounts with EKMpowershop and have been a satisfied customer for many years until....
We began having over 1000+ page views a day. Which is surprisingly easy to get to.
Once we hit this limit we were told "You MUST upgrade to a VPS or we will shut you down".
Cost is £149.99 A MONTH!

I cannot find a single positive review for this practise and you are in no way open about forcing customers to a VPS. The whole 'one price' advertisement made on your website is simply untrue. Where is your pricing page explaining the tiers?
Finally, I dispute the claim that my store is in the same bracket as Lotus, Michelin, O2 and PGA. I feel this is simply a tax on what is perceived as a successful store that can "afford it".
I was spending weeks deciding which company I should use to build a website, do I spend £££££ on a posh design or go for someone with a monthly fee.
I run a small sole business currently but looking to expand, so needed something that could grow with me.
After speaking with EKM, it certainly appeared they could do everything I needed and very cheaply in my opinion.
I am still in the process of building the site, but the support team are great and are easily contactable and sort out all issues in a short time frame.
Very impressed and I would recommend using them for other small businesses like mine, who want that professional appearance but not paying £££££ for it.
Not 2 months ago we received a phone call from EKM Dorothy Ward to explain
about the EKM powershop.....what a luck...1 day later we started the free trial and Dorothy supported us all the way through the realization (we haven t be very easy ;-) )
We maid it and after 10 days we had a wonderful working shop.
There are little things which could be work better but we can live very happy with this.
Also the support team is very friendly and helpful.
We only can recomand EKM . Very good value for your money.
They are really helpful and attentive and I really appreciate the courtesy calls they make from time to time just to check if I'm happy, how good is that? The tuition is excellent and the actual site is quite easy to use, even if you have limited graphics experience.

It is early days for me as a customer. I had a previous EKM shop a few years ago and left because it just wasn't generating the sales. It was clunky and time consuming.
This really looks like a new improved version though. Very user friendly. Quick to set up, excellent sales staff with technical knowledge, not just promising the earth for the sake of a sale.
Hopefully in a fews days I will be getting lots of sales with quite minimal hassle for me at a time of year when time is at a premium.
I have been exposed to the ekm system since 2007. I now have my own store that was set up this year. I have had slow page loading problems, numerous people contacting me to say they gave up waiting for the website tom open. I have a product page that simply will not open in a timely manner. I had to take the dog for a walk and it was open when I returned. I have just posted a lengthy post in the EKM community forum asking why a customer has to provide evidence of an issue. Yet EKM just say 'It's alright when we checked'. They do not demonstrate any pro active or cointrolled testing to find problems. UI have just asked for people with slow websites to contact me so we can do our own tests using independent people. My EKM Forum post was removed in minutes. Ask yourself this. Do you want to set up a web-shop that you cannot migrate or take elsewhere with a company that behaves like this?

I am about to launch the site, so I can't comment on the customer experience. however, I must say that the level of support that I have received while building the site has been MAGNIFICENT! Nothing is too much trouble and everyone is very motivated towards getting the site as I want it and getting it up and running as quickly as possible.
This is my third attempt at building a site and the other two providers came nowhere near to matching the service levels offered by EKM. Once you understand the basic principles, building and updating the site is simple. 10 out of 10!
A few months ago we contacted EKM wanting more information about having a shop online with them.
Being a novice, and not that brilliant with computers, I found them most helpful, with great customer service and patience!
We then had Internet problems and were unable to pursue our online shop!
However after relocating the business, decided that we would try EKM again, having found them so helpful earlier in the year.
They were great once again, and had were able to recall information from months back.
We are now in the Kickstart stage again and are looking forward to going live in a week or two.So looking forward to seeing the end result.
Have already recommended EKMPowershop to others.

Suffered a torrid 6 months with EKM, the platform is really buggy and unstable. We had so many customers tell us our site was not available, slow, unable to connect to payment gateways, not displaying correctly in IE the list goes on and on. The support team are obviously overworked and don't seem to be able to help, the only redeeming feature of the platform is the great community of users in the forum who seem to be the only people who care about ironing out the many many issues.
Our final straw came when I was on a (yet another) support call regarding pages not loading in internet explorer because of a js query error on their product tags. Instead of offering a solution I was told "we have a lot of bugs on IE, can you not get your customers to use chrome instead?"............ We've just left and moved to another provider who I feel offer a far superior product in terms of support and stability, though to be fair to EKM you can design wonderful looking websites, they just need to make sure they work and customers can pay!
I tried to work with this company for over a week. They made me multiple promises and asked me to pay £30 upfront, which was not specified on their website. I feel they mislead me big-time. They wasted hours and hours of my precious time and energy, keeping me on a string, telling me they could provide me with the service I needed, instead of them being straight and honest with me. I eventually received my £30 refund. After my experience with them, I felt my energy was drained, having phoned them painstakingly every day, several times a day, in order to get things sorted and moving, but to no avail. I really would not recommend them.
Am so impressed with both the EKM platform and their customer service, it is a website host I definitely recommend.
Query something and the help is there and the platform is so simple, even a novice could operate with no help.
So impressed, I am currently building my own site with ekm to run as a charity/Not-For-Profit organization, as competitor platforms are no near as simple and it's always a pleasure to speak with someone at EKM, that is a rare occasion too!
Wanted a M-com site too, as mobile devices are taking over 'computers' (Ebay reported a 15% rise in its profits because of mobile use - Oct 2012) and thus EKM ticks this box. Also the EKM app on a smartphone is easy to check sales when out and about!
£360 per year is a bargain for all this!
I have never had such a simple, easy to use, enjoyable experience when it comes to website builders/technical staff.... yet with EKM thats exactly what I got - so simple, the gentleman called me straight away after I logged a call back and within a matter of a few minutes I was up and running. Simple to use site, knowledgeable friendly staff who only want to help. Bargain price for the features included. Highly recommend to everyone - I wont be going anywhere else any time soon.
Having tried 2 major Competitors I then Came across EKM, What a breath of Fresh air, Easy to use, excellent pricing, knowledgeable support staff. I really wish I had found these guys earlier. I would recommend these guys to anyone looking to set up an online business with no hesitation whatsoever.
I had been looking for a product that I could use to replace my current website. I used a templated tool (WEBS), that did not offer the functions that I needed to continue the growth of the eCommerce side of the business.
After looking I came across EKM Powershop. Reluctantly, I spend some time talking to them - I say reluctantly only because I did not want to be pressurised into signing up.
Well, there was no need to presurise me - I love it, absolutely love EKM Powershop.
Having spoken to a member of the team for about an hour, I sent her a PDF showing what I would like out home page to look like. Even though I was told she would get back to me, in all honestly I probably did not expect a response for about a week. Well, within 12hrs she had come back with a screen. She then spent about 90mins showing me this, and all the other functions available - all at no cost.
For me as an eCommerce business, for £20 a month, I could not believe what I was getting - It offered all that I needed to progress to the next level of business, without costing a small fortune. But not only that the support and backup has been amazing. I have been working with the team for the last week, continuing to build my site - I have no problems in saying, that I believe within 7 days I will have my site, designed, built and live, hopefully making money (thats for me to do though)
What is offered ? - Easier to say what isn't but here goes
From my side, I love the discount management - BOGOF, % discounts, free delivery, Coupons etc... the list goes on. Email management, Customer Reviews, Loyalty Points - I must sound boring, but these are all functions we wanted, but our other provider did not offer, or was not willing to listen to the customers to offer. I am no geek, but I have spent most of this weekend playing with the site, seeing what is offered

I am very happy to write this review for EKM. They offer wonderful customer service with great packages that are easy enough for any small business to use with ease and to great effect. This is our second website with EKM and with that I do not think I need to say anymore :)
The team at EKM have been amazing. Our eBay store has a lot of custom template and HTML that was embedded into our export that I sent over to them. They happily removed it at no extra cost. Everything has all been smooth and although I have to do some work with the catagories, I have been shown how to do it and any question I have had it has been answered very quickly, normally by a phone call.
In particular Marc M has been brilliant. Any support I need, he has either answered my questions or got me through to someone.

ok been with ekmpowershop now for about 6 months, we moved away from 1&1. as this is far better. its easy to use has some lovely templates. customer service is excellent. for the price you are getting a better package than you think. have linked paypal and amazon payments to the website. love the features and also its good to see a company adding new things to it to keep it very competive in the volatile market. take my advice if you sell on ebay or play or amazon for 19.99 a month its well worth it. keep the good work up. our site is retrogamesexchange.co.uk and theres still loads to do. trust me guys online is the future make this package part of it..
i just can't wait to get out of this nightmare. features do not work well at all. every single day i am losing sales. customers are logged in but they can't go thru the checkout because this malfunctioning feature 'customer log in' says they are not logged in. when using 'forgotten password' link it says their email doesn't exist on the system. long waiting time before you can get served. REALLY NOT GOOD COMPANY. STAY AWAY if you want your business to grow or go forward.
I honestly, do not know where to start. I was very skeptical about any non US ecommerce software solution website. I have always had an outstanding service from non UK sites. However, this company is truly exceptional. To be honest, there is one guy that I was lucky enough to deal with that really made the whole experience for me. His work ethos, and outstanding attention to detail was better than anyone I can remember in business. Adam Waring is the guy you need to speak to. He literally cannot do enough to walk you through the whole process. I have been lucky enough to be involved with multiple ecommerce sites over the last ten years, & never had such wonderful customer care before EKM.

Decided to use EKM as it seemed the popular site, customer service people as great only have to email and they are quick to reply and help. The site is easy to use once you get to know the way around. Had a few sales but hoping as the time goes on we will get more popular.

I became an EKM Powershop customer when it bought out my previous web hosting company, Tiger Commerce. I wasn't happy with the EKM software and had already been planning to move to a much more comprehensive eCommerce system before the changeover. It wasn't too much hassle to get out of the contract as I hadn't paid anything due to the transfer. However, in March 2013, I had a phone call from an ex EKM customer who told me that when his URL was typed into the browser, my website came up. My web designer looked into it and noticed that there were lots of links to my website from domains that were inactive. This has a negative effect on SEO and we subsequently fell from positions 3 or 4 on page 1 of Google to falling off the first page, horrendous for a web-based sales business. As soon as we received the call and saw the links, we called EKM. We were told that when an account is cancelled, the url is redirected to another old account / random website but that this would be rectified and my account deleted from their system so it didn't happen again, and that it would take effect immediately. Four months later, loads of calls and emails resulting in being fobbed off, and a letter sent Recorded Delivery to the MD over a month ago that has yet to receive a response, and I am still suffering from other websites being linked to our domain. We have managed to climb back up to page 1 for our key search terms with a lot of hard graft. And we have tried to complain about EKM's total lack of responsibility, complete failure in customer service and its immoral practices but we have nobody to complain to. There is no governing body for business-to-business web hosting issues and Citizens Advice have told me that my only option is the legal route. I am a one person micro business so this is a daunting and costly prospect for me! EKM certainly isn't kidding with the statement on its website that they work hard but play harder - obviously at the expense of its customer service and reputation.
I've tried setting up a personal website through another company where I received no help what so ever. The only method of contacting he previous company was through online support which is useless.
After I transferred to ekmpowershop I couldn't believe the difference in treatment and support I was receiving. The web editor is easy and great fun to use. The webpage ends up looking unbelievably professional and the support you receive is phenomenal. Great team and great guidance! Love my ekm powershop!!
After looking at many different ecommerce site providers and reading numerous reviews (both good and bad) I was feeling completely confused about who would be the best provider for my ecommerce requirements. I found EKM and liked the look of the templates they had on offer and also the end results for some of their exisitng clients.
I still wasn't sure though so decided to email a couple of people who had put reviews on trustpilot to see how they were finding things with EKM months/years down the line and all came back positive.
I took their free trial and played about for a couple of weeks to see whether I could get on with the templates and it was great. I found them easy to use with great end results. I also found that the members of the team that I spoke to were very helpful and willing to answer any and all questions I had. I took the plunge and have now launched my site. I managed to put it all together myself with only a small amount of help required from their support team.
All in all I am thrilled with the outcome and look forward to many years trading with EKM. Would definitely recommend to anyone thinking of opening a webshop!

The price you pay for the service and diversity of add ons is really good. My account manager Gemma Caparelli has made every effort to make sure my business is up and running. If I was confused all need extra help they got back to me quickly to help resolve any issues. I would recommend this company as good way to start your online business.

I decided to use ekm to grow my off-marketplace business. Initially I thought it to be a reasonable system, easy to start using etc. However its when I really needed it to do certain e-commerce standard things that it fell down. At the time, the API was not opened up, so I could not control it with my inventory management software, thus meaning I had to manually adjust (definitely unacceptable).
They charge for the web stats (£5 a month ) from memory - and what a let down. To say its basic was an understatement.
Not that this affected me as I am vat registered, but price was advertised as £19.99 a month, but was + vat (annoying for companies who are under the vat threshold).
When I closed the account, I had pre-paid until the end of the month, but they just shut it down altogether, with no access to customer orders (this was not explained). When I asked for access, they said I would have to pay again. Their mood/attitude towards me once I cancelled was of utter contempt.
I asked for a code to transfer my URL, and I got this ok, but a few months after I noticed they had again charged me for hosting the URL. I had to call them and request this to be refunded.
I don't trust they are able to competently provided a positive customer experience (especially if you ask them to close it down). The system is ok for people playing at ecommerce, and if all their inventory is just located there....but at that price there are MUCH better systems out there - such as Big Commerce; epages.
We signed up with EKM a year ago and within a few months we were at the top of Google natural listings for our keyword, Hawaiian Fancy Dress. It was easy to set up, with plenty of templates to choose from which are easy to tailor to your liking. It's easy to add a number of payment options and simple in every way to get started. So easy that we have set up another site with them this year.
We can only praise the service we have had from Martin in sales and as for customer service, we've not needed to use them.
This is a great system for the money and is very good value at only £19.99 a month. We spend nearly double that amount hosting our original stand alone website.
I am disguised with ekmpowershops customer service, I joined a month ago and tried to link my domain with my newly designed shop. There was a problem with the transfer of the domain and it has been dealt with terribly. As a result I have been without emails or a website which potentially has cost me thousands. I have called time and time again and been palmed off with false promises to fix the issue within the hour. I have not been updated once on the progress of the issue and they will not put any timescale to fix the problem in writing however they are happy to lie to me over the phone about how long it will take. I asked to speak to a manager who refused with the excuse of being busy even though support staff regular put me on hold to speak to their manager themselves. I have to wait 15 minutes on average just to get through to support however if you wish to talk to sales you can reach then in less than a minute. The development team refuse to speak to customers and don't seem to have a clue what they are doing. I understand problems arise with websites however the way ekmpowershop have dealt with me is disguising.
just starting the company out not gone live yet but plan too by the end of the week. creating a site called secret temptations for adult goods and lingerie, now I know next to nothing about html so needed a simple to use guide to creating the website and this site is perfect for that and the customer service is second to none too great help and information. definitely recommend using this site
I spent absolutely ages on the internet trying to decide which company to go with for my ecommerce needs. Having spent thousands on having a customised website built for my last online business when I lived in New Zealand, I needed a very cost effective solution this time around. I also felt that things had moved on considerably in the last few years and there were now some really good templates available, so there wasn't the need to spend so much money!
The hardest thing was trying to decide which company to go with. There seemed to be a number of options and I narrowed it down to ekmpowershop and one other to try out for a trial.
It had a really good chat with one of the sales people first and he pointed me straight in the direction of the most suitable template for my shop. I started having a 'play' with it and found it much easier and more intuitive to use than the other company whose template I was also trialling. I quickly gave up on the other one and got focused on building my website with ekmpowershop.
Gemma was brilliantly helpful with the regular tutorials that were booked in with my over the phone (and she always rang bang on time for our booked appointments). I have a marketing background but not a technical one, and was really relieved to see how easy everything was. Any small queries I had were quickly dealt with by Gemma or one of the technical team who would always get back to me that day with an answer.
Having had a logo designed for my new business, it was dead easy to just load in the pantone colour codes to the website and it was applied at the click of the button. I found it so easy to upload the images, content etc and a simple bit of research that I did made it easy to figure out what key words I should be adding.
I was also delighted at how easy it was to add the payment gateway processing stuff - that looked like it could have been a nightmare of complexity, but everything is preloaded into the website so after you have cut and pasted in the code stuff from Paypal, it just seems to configure it all on your website without any further input from a non techie like me.
I will be 'launching' my site later this week and feel really proud of how it looks. Best of all I can't believe that is cost me nothing apart from £110 on some stock photography I bought for my banners and the ongoing hosting fee. I have a couple of friends who have shelled out thousands on their new websites and they don't look nearly as good as mine - how smug do I feel :-) !!
So - hopefully everything will continue to go smoothly, but I have to say that so far, I am a really happy customer!
Sorry to put a downer on all the positive reviews ekmpowershop are getting but i actually gave up with my shop after signing up with them as I just couldn't get what i wanted out of the software. For the money it was a good investment and i had an idea of how i wanted my website to look. It is falsely advertised that there is no coding experience required, so in 2010 i stupidly signed up with them.
After picking a template I wanted to make some small changes but was unable to because I don't know HTML. I never realised I would need to know coding because its advertised as "easy to use" and "no coding knowledge required". A friend of mine new a bit about HTML and was willing to help me, but unfortunately let me down, so i just done my best and it didnt last long. The frustration with trying to learn HTML code got the best of me and i gave up, why advertise falsely? All i wanted was to be able to design a shop without having to pay extra and even when i phoned them for advice all they wanted was money for them to help me. So I've decided to give the shop another go and have signed up with another company called speeda who are brilliant.
My advice is if want to start a shop and don't have experience or the time to learn coding language then don't get suckered into signing up with ekmpowershop. Goto their free demo and try changing the shop template to your taste, its impossible if you don't know HTML. So basically its not for beginners and a huge waste of time for me, which is why I give it 2 stars.
I decided to give EKM a go after looking at all the other online shop soft wear, the reason I chose it was because of its simplicity, I have been using it a week and I have been nothing but impressed at how it all works, what you get for your money and most importantly the level of customer service you get. The team are so helpful and so patient, excellent explanations are given at every point and I don't feel like I am on my own ever. I have no experience of building an online shop and using EMK has helped me learn new skills as well as being fun and creative and I know I have always got some one at the end of the line to help as well as constant emails being sent to me giving me guidance. I really feel this week that I have finally found a company and its staff who are a pleasure to work with, put me as the customer first as well as be there to support when needed. I arrange appointments for tutorials and I was telephoned on time and never ever rushed though, Kieran Ryan has given me the support I needed in a professional and brilliant manner. There are so many companies to choose from but EMK and their staff really do deserve to succeed as they are just so that good and I am a very happy customer. Well done everyone at EKM you really do deserve the credit.
This company have been so helpful and quick to respond. They talk you through everything and are so re-assuring. I would recommend them to anyone starting an e-commerce website. The support team really know their stuff and I can't thank them enough. It has made my new venture exciting rather than daunting.
After paying quite a lot of money for a designed site that is very complex to update it was wonderful to find this company. The templates are really great and have a lot more features than other companies offer for a free design. It is very user friendly and they have a help desk and even offer free tutorials to help you get started. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them if you need to design a store.
What can I say?....As an experienced website designer and marketer I have no problem building sites but a client needed an eCommerce site with shopping cart etc so I was stuck.
I spent days looking around and eventually found these guys and wow....support was super and the young lady Gemma was so understanding and supportive I felt I need to say so.
Even though I know my way around website construction there were a lot of gaps in my knowledge when it came to the eCommerce side but she was so patient and helpful.

Since joining EKM Powershop as a new and very inexperienced person to all things ecommerce I have to say that I have been looked after at every stage and Im confident that I will continue to be. No question has been unanswered and all answers and explanations have been provided with clear detail and thought so that even a novice like myself can understand and take action accordingly. Ive built up a fantastic relationship with my account handler Gemma what a lovely girl she should be highly commended for her positive and helpful attitude, I never feel like Im talking to a stranger on the phone she feels like a friend now. Im yet to ask her something she has been unable to answer or help with they really are the experts.
I was looking to the internet to generate a second income for my family in the difficult economic times that we are now facing and I couldnt have gone to a better place. I find the platform user friendly and easy to navigate. My shop has really developed in the course of the last 8weeks and I cant wait to launch. Ive been planning properly for my launch and with the help of Phil in the SEO team who has started supporting me to take the next steps Im again confident that my positive experience will continue.
I know that people are quick to give negative reviews but I always feel its important to give praise and credit where its due and my experience has been one that I will be raving about and telling my friends for years to come. As I still have many more steps along my ecommerce journey I will continue to give feedback whether its positive or negative but to be fair for the low start up costs Ive had to pay I just cant imagine that my expectations wont be met. I guess you could call me EKMs number one fan right now! Gemma will definately be on my christmas card list in the future! Thank you everyone you have been superb!

I've been using ekmpowershop since 2006 and never had a problem with customer support getting back to me. Only once has an issue been unresolved but it is still ongoing.
The software is easy to use & has all the features for my needs but I understand some other users have left as they believe the software is not for them due to lack of features.
I did have a custom website designed by ekm for my store but it looked more like a custom template - but when I asked for alterations to be done they did what I asked. I still feel it was an expensive template redesign rather than a custom website (as described on their design site) but I am happy with the final result.
Overall I'm happy with ekmpowershop.
Update: I have now left EKM for pastures new. They have added some new features but I couldn't add them on my EKM site because it was a custom design. I needed to know html and where to correctly place the EKM tags on my site and I felt that EKM support didn't really want to help me.
Another reason for leaving was the system kept throwing up soft 404 urls that seemed to have been randomly created? When I spoke to support about this they said they were looking into it but some weeks later still no response.
So with this and the fact that I couldn't use their new features on my custom site unless I knew how to use the html ekm tags correctly, I felt I had to leave.
