By far, the hardest company I've ever had to do business with. Save your time, money, and frustration and take your business somewhere else. They are THIEVES. No type of refund, your deposit expires after one year, only lets you deposit preselected amounts that don't correspond with their prices so you end up spending more money, if you don't deposit you get charged more money as a surcharge for a "fast" payment (only site I've ever heard of this...) I don't think they understand the importance of creating a customer relationship for their business success. They are going through hell and back to get just $5 extra dollars from me, and I'm not letting it happen. Does anyone know of a good time machine so I can go back in time and not go to Envato?
Don't believe the prices you see listed. There are either surcharges, or you have to make "deposits" to buy things, deposits which are "conveniently" not in any multiple of the prices of their products. So this is basically a way of forcing you to give them more money than the products cost. What's more, the deposits EXPIRE after a year, another way they can steal your money (this might actually be illegal). There are plenty of great royalty-free sites out there that AREN'T run by a bunch of criminals...use one of them instead.
I have purchased twice from envato website and both times I received imitation non working php software. Both times I contacted envato and they never even bother to reply to me. After I complain to paypal they just suspend my envato account.
Very strange people. Wont buy from that site again. Ever. Definitely Envato is a Fraud Company.
I purchased a theme from their ThemeForest site and was pleased with it. So much so I went back months later to purchase another theme. This second theme, I'm not so hot on. When I first downloaded it and installed the theme it didn't have all the functionality claimed on the product page. Redownoladed and reinstalled and it still didn't work. Took a few screen shots and contacted Envato Support. The first email was rather pleasant. They just wanted more info (A repeat of the original ticket) the second email they moved forward to review it. I waited and they got back to me saying it worked. Which even with new files downloaded only hours before I wrote this. It was still broken. They refuse to process the refund because the author of the theme created a half working 'work around'. I'm disgusted by this behavior for not holding themselves or creators accountable for bad files. I just want my refund so I can continue development of my site. Still haven't gotten word back from them.
I had a problem with a plugin that did not work properly in my configuration, this may be somethign that it may happen but not only they refused to issue a refund but as soon as I opened a paypal dispute they suspended the whole account. I'll personally stay away from anything they do just for this incident.
So far I have a good experience with Envato. Support has been friendly to me...so it is a shame to see other reviewers with different experiences.
I like being able to contact developers of the items I purchase and if the developer cannot help I just talk to Envato and their `brains trust' gets me a solution.
I buy from most of their marketplace categories (themeforest, codecanyon, etc...) and so far so good.
Also they have offered me refund for product in the past, but I was able to resolve the issue with the developer so there was no need for a refund in the end. If something really doesn't work, I am sure they will look after you.
I also have Happy customers because I can do rapid development and low prices. Saves me and my clients time and money. Monthly freebies are a bonus too.
Like many other users, Envato engaged in fraudulent behavior with me. Their customer support was snarky bordering on malicious. They absolutely refused to refund or provide adequate support. Do not make purchases from this company.
Envato used to be fantastic! I bought many themes and stock items from them.
Then, seemingly overnight, everything changed. I lost access to a theme I purchased, and lost a client because of this. I contacted Envato for a refund, and it took them about 2.5 weeks to respond with an answer that had nothing to do with my request. I replied to that, clarifying. It's been another 2.5 weeks, and I've heard nothing from them.
It's clear how they view their customers, if they won't respond. It's clear how they view their products, if they won't back them with support.
Absolute garbage. I will NOT be using them again. The internet is a big place, but they still manage to convince me that they offer the worst customer service around.
