I was extremely pleased when I booked insurance for my daughter, it was very easy and affordable. The option of a card that she could carry around instead of paper was great and I decided to go for that too. This is where it went wrong. It took over 10 days for it to come, and then it only came because I phoned up, and when it arrived the policy number was printed so low down that half of it was cut off!! So then I had to write on the card the policy number. Now this in itself is not a problem but I had had to pay extra to get a card with all the details on it!!! A complete waste of £2+ pounds and unless you can actually print it correctly I would not bother to charge/ offer this. It has tarnished my recommendation that I would give.
Would help if it didn't have 0871 telephone numbers, costs a fortune.
I added the pack and card (£2.99) as the price was so cheap and my daughter was going away with someone else so I thought this would be better for them to have.
My daughter has however gone away and come back and there is still no sign of the pack!! If this cannot be produced within a tight turnaround then it shouldn't be offered!
Other than this the online chat was helpful and the price was great. Thank fully we haven't actually had to use the insurance service ie no claims so i can't comment on this.
This is the 3rd time I've used Essential and highly recommend it. The website is simplicity itself to use, the cover is very comprehensive, and the price very good!
Easy-peasy lemon squeezy!
Being a fit and very active pensioner aged only 72, I found it very galling when I got to 60, then 65 and then 70 to find that most Insurance Companies refused to insure me when planning my worldly travels. They all seemed to think I should sit at home and count my money or bang on the floor with a big stick to get service (thats what it felt like to me), because I was a bad risk for them to insure me just because of my age .When I found a policy it cost a lot too. Imagine my pleasure when I tried Essential Travel and received exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price.
Arrived at the airport ,went through security ,ready to board the plane,passport missing.
Airport security searched everywhere,my son searched the house and car no passport found.Could not travel and policy does not cover lost passport while still in the Uk
.If I had taken the essntial plus or superior cover,I would have been covered,it was only a few pounds more.
Awful customer service! Waited on phone for an advisor for 7 minutes to be met by ultr loud music!!!! When i finally spoke to someone She didn,t seem to understand her own job too well!!!! Unable to access my account as there is a technical fault at present and they are not too sure when it will be resolved!!!
On a positive note though the policy price quite reasonable!!!
Would recommend this company to you and my other friends, as it is great for the older persons to use the internet very quickly and easily
Everything was clearly sited and I managed to do it all by myself.
Unlike most travel insurance you can cover pre-exisiting illnesses easily and normal mountain biking is allowed on the most basic cover. (My current annual cover with Direct Line doesn't even include cycling at all which is pretty useless for a holiday with the kids)
still awaiting travel documents which have been paid for and my travel commences on Saturday 6th April and still not had sight of any terms and conditions contained in the policy
Have used essential for many years as a one off insurance, always found them friendly,efficient and fair. Thankfully never had to claim so have no experience of this but it seems a very good product so for me is all abour peace of mind
I always know where I stand when buying holiday insurance. It's great to be able to complete a medical assessment on line and this has allowed me to make a speedy decision when booking. I have used this company several times an will continue to do so.
It's just really really easy - and cheap. From getting to the page to printing off the details, it maybe took me 10 mins... No more. No jargon, easy to find the grade I needed and then pay and done!

The whole transaction was very quick and that included my registering a pre-existing condition.
My only gripe is that if I wish to transfer to a worldwide policy later in the year I cannot do this due to my pre-existing condition and will need to buy a seperate policy.
Will probably use another supplier if that is the case or at least shop around.

I got the date wrong on when we are returning (by one day) so i needed to amend the policy. It cost me £11.25 on a £30 policy. What a nice positive surprise it would have been if the (very professional) lady I spoke to was able to say 'we'll process that small amendment free of charge sir'...
Website not so easy to navigate at first ad had had an email about reduced winter sports insurance for helmet wearers and how to access this not clear so booked withput reduction first. Online help not available so emailed and then all sorted very smoothly - very helpful and efficient.
I found this site to be easy to use, self explanatory and took out holiday insurance in a few minutes. I had to ask customer services a question to make sure I was covered for everything I needed and they responded within 24 hours even over the weekend which was good customer service.
I have used Essential Travel before to cover my grandchildren on the holiday I treat them to each year. Nice and straight forward, everything is on the screen for you to take your time to read and make your choice. Excellent prices, and hopefully an
excellent service should I need to claim.
Not quite believing that the quotation for diving insurance could be as competitively priced as the website suggested, I telephoned Essential Travel for confirmation. The assistant on the end of the phone was polite, efficient and helpful- and confirmed the cost of the insurance WAS correct! I would definitely recommend Essential Travel to family and friends.
It was not clear that, unlike other sites, the age required is your age now and not your age when you begin your travel. When you go back to change your age, all of your details have been removed so you have to start all over again. Unneccessary.
I rang up the costomer service team to ask whether it was possible to upgrade my anual insurance to include USA, and then promptly processed my request free of charge. It was an unexpected but very pleasant and efficient service. I highly recommend purchasing insurance through this company.
Travel Essential is great to book with and I don't book with anyone else. Fill in your details on the application form and you are given I think it's 5 options to choose from. You are shown a list of what you are covered for and the excesses. I always go for the best one as it is real value for money. Take a look and you'll be pleasantly surpised. Much better that booking in the Travel Agents!
Very easy to use website excellent value for money and offers everything you need cover for! I have recommended this site already to a friend for her daughter too.
Picking the insurance online is a bonus, happy with having policy documents on email etc. however, in the event of a claim, which we have it has taken over a week to speak to a customer service rep, as we were either hanging on the phone for extraordinary amounts of time or cut off on two occasions. We are still waiting for claim form throu post which has not arrived and now have it emailed. Unfortunately, these days with automated systems it is so very hard to get to talk to a human when the system doesn't understand the problem...! Another downside is not being able to log on and get to my policy documents for over two weeks now. When clicking on email to me, it just doesn't respond. No help... No person to talk to.
