Last April I decided to buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for an overnight delivery. The delivery didn't happen until a day late. I complained and was refunded the copurier costs. After 10 days of very light use the tablet overheated and as a result the screen cracked. Expansys arranged for a collection. So far so good. Then came the good news that the screen was cracked and it would cost me in excess of 180 sterling to have it repaired by them, a carriage charge of 10 sterling and VAT of 38 sterling making a total of 228 pounds to get the unit repaired. The fact that it was only 10 days old and that nothing untoward had happened to it seemed a total irrelevance.
After some haggling I decided I excercise my rights and issued a claim through the court. At every step they waited until the last day before acting. They then contacted me and told how sorry they are and how they wanted to correct the situation by repairing the unit, sending it back and as a token of that regret would pay 228 pounds plus the court costs if I cancelled the case against them. I pushed them for a date. The tablet did not arrive on the date they gave, nor did their promised payment. I informed the court that I intended to continue with the case, which seemed to force them into action again and the tablet finally arrived back, scratched and dented but functioning. There was no explanation why it had overheated and why the screen had cracked.
The whole sorry saga took in excess of 3 months to sort out and Expansys did nothing at all to try and emerge from this elegantly. They lied at every opportunity, they made promises which they knew they were never going to keep and only at the point where it became clear they would have to explain to a judge why they thought consumer law did not apply to them they finally repaired and returned the tablet. I would not recommend doing business with Expansys to anyone. Simply the worst people I have ever dealt with. Arrogant and ignorant.
