4 months later and still no item, none of the staff have told me anything helpful

I wish I had read some customer reviews before I purchased from Forbidden Planet. I have never had a problem when shopping in-store and they have so many unique, excellent products that I didn't think twice about ordering some late Christmas gifts online. To be fair, the first part of my order was fulfilled and arrived quickly, it's the other item that I'm having to wait such a ridiculous amount of time for. I ordered an item that must have been out of stock, although I wasn't informed of this when I bought it online, I only found out that the order was going to be part fulfilled when I read the confirmation email. I could understand that they must have sold out over Christmas so I didn't mind. I only contacted the company about a month later, which I felt was adequate time to replenish the item and dispatch it. When someone finally got back to me about the situation, they apologised but didn't provide me with information such as if they are even getting new stock and when it would arrive etc. I've pretty much forgotten about the item as it's been so long. Irritatingly it feels like every time I ask what's happened to my order, I'm going to be met with the same vague response. Judging by the reviews, a lot of people have been in a similar situation, and no one seems to be in a hurry to fulfill these backlogs of orders.

The Customer Is Always A Right Nuisance!

I have had quite a few dealings with Forbidden Planet over the years and I've never found them a particularly satisfactory company to deal with, especially when things go wrong. Unfortunately, as a Doctor Who fan, they're often the only game in town as they produce a lot of exclusive figures and figure sets. Which means that not dealing with them isn't a viable option for a collector. The problem is that for a company which deals with collectable items (and the admittedly somewhat particular people who buy them, like myself) they don't seem to be greatly concerned with keeping their customers happy. Doctor Who items come in collectable packaging which are an integral part of the collectable nature of the item, yet they regularly arrive bashed or scuffed or with other annoying (and avoidable) defects. It's not a question of the postal packaging being inadequate as - in my experience - Forbidden Planet send out their products in a good, sturdy boxes.. So, the damage isn't being done by their couriers; they're simply sending out items which have had rough handling during the storage and packaging process. Given that their items aren't cheap (you pay a premium for exclusivity), it's annoying that getting an item in mint condition seems to be such a matter of pot luck. And when you complain, Forbidden Planet seem uninterested in finding a satisfactory resolution to the problem.. In a recent email I was told that their products were mass produced abroad, so what could I expect and that if I wanted them to arrive undamaged, maybe I should try going to one of their stores and seeing if I had better luck there. This, by the way, is not always a practical option for me as their nearest store is quite some distance away. Plus I don't see why I should expect to receive a poorer service from their online store when the prices aren't any cheaper and postage has to be factored in. The whole tone of the message suggested that I was a fusspot with unreasonable expectations. Like it or lump it! is not the attitude I expect to receive from a company with whom I've spent several thousand pounds over the years.

If you can wait a million years it aint so bad

I have bought products from Forbidden Planet a few times and each time I have had to wait 2-4 months for each. On their website there is absolutely no declaration that the order is not in stock, is a pre-order and won't be available for the next 100 years. I do want to at least compliment them for sending me an e-mail update about my order now and then, even if I had to contact them the first time I was wondering what happened to my order. On top of that, their payment system is screwed up. It says you're only paying a ridiculous small amount for the order, but nonetheless you end up paying the right amount. So that's confusing.. if not stupid, but at least it works. I tried to contact their technical department ages ago, but never received as much as a wink back. I kinda doubt they even have a technical department.

They should seriously consider whipping their supplier with a morning star or really consider changing to someone else. Every time they deliver an estimate that estimate gets pushed further and further out into the future because of some delay from their supplier. So despite being a great shop with great products they need to fix their issues with their supplier and with their online payment system. If they even cared for these reviews, that would probably be a good way to start as well. I'm just wondering if there's an owner out there who has no idea or control over what goes on in their shop. Don't be afraid to shop there though, customer service does reply. If you can live with your order arriving months later (because the products are so awesome), you won't have much trouble either.

Never received item, and had to contact them to find out order status

I ordered a present for my daughter about 2 weeks before Christmas. When it didn't arrive in time for Christmas I wasn't too worried as I assumed it had been delayed in the post. Another week went by, and then another. Eventually I logged onto my account to contact them. I had an automatic rmail straight back advising of the receipt of my email, and that it would take 3-5 working days to get back to me. 3-5 working days to reply to an email!

My reply was as follows:
"Unfortunately, although this was stated as being in stock and available at the time you ordered, when it came to picking this had gone out of stock. This automatically went on a pre-order for you and was ordered through the suppliers. We have just received news from the manufacturers that we are expecting a restock and these should be with us within the next 2-3 weeks."

I then had another email today:
"Unfortunately, although this was stated as being in stock and available at the time you ordered, when it came to picking this had gone out of stock. This automatically went on a pre-order for you and was ordered through the suppliers. We have just received news from the manufacturers that we are expecting a restock, this is now due in at the end of month"

Now, I work for an online retail company (which incidentally has excellent Trust Pilot reviews). If we have an item that has gone out of stock we contact the customer STRAIGHT AWAY so that they can either choose another product, or have a refund. We certainly do not leave it for about three weeks until the customer contacts us to find out the whereabouts of their order. That is shocking practice. If Forbidden Planet had contacted me straight away there would not have been an issue - I would have understood and either had a refund or have been happy to wait.

I am disgusted at the frankly very poor level of Customer Service shown to me by this company and would certainly never use them again. I do not think that Customer Service features in their vocabulary.

A company that doesn't actually sell things

Ordered the star wars death star ice sphere maker from them in october of last year. After over a month the item hadn't arrived, so i started to try and get in touch with them. after multiple emails i finally got a response that they were waiting for information from the supplier. So i wait. keeping in mind this was supposed to be a christmas present, well, christmas came and went and every two months i got another email saying they were still waiting. 7 months later and they were still fobbing me off, despite the fact they had taken payment for the item back in october.

Long story short i cancel the order and bought the item from a store that turns out was about 5 miles from my house, even asked them if they found it hard to source the item.... nope, no problem at all.

i've ordered another item a week ago that is still "processing". It would seem they don't want to actually sell things

I was worried for nothing!

After placing an order with forbidden planet, I thought to look up some reviews of the company to see what I could expect in terms of service, as I have never used them before.
I read numerous bad reviews about this site and got very worried that my Christmas gifts would not arrive on time, as I had bought many items and needed them asap!
I proceeded to email their customer service department and ask if I would receive them before Christmas because I read the negative reviews and panicked.
I received an email the next day explaining that my items had been dispatched and I would receive them within 5 working days.
After 2 days had passed I came home to find my package with all the items in perfect condition. If you read their postage policy, it does state that it could take up to 21 working days to receive items, as they source their products from overseas.
I have had no problems with forbiddenplanet.co.uk and would recommend them to all of my friends and family!

Buy from somewhere else.

On May the 1st I ordered for two 'Portal 2' items from Forbidden Planet's website only to wait for them to message me and tell me it was delayed until late June. So I waited all the way till July and messaged them asking them where my stuff was. Although I got a quick reply, it was one I seriously doubt. They was saying that they were "waiting for the supplier ". I have ordered from the supplier 'Valve' before and they send off their stock extremely fast in 24 hours and that's from America to England. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for Forbidden Planet to take almost 3 months to send off an order. The only reason I ordered from Forbidden Planet instead of Valve was because I didn't want to be charged customs but seeing as the service was bad, next time I will order from the supplier. It's such a shame because the service for Forbidden Planet used to be so good and caring towards customers. I wont be shopping from this website again.

Incorrect product availability statuses

For me biggest problem with this store is / has been that site has incorrect availability status for many products. After the initial preorder date, the site status only shows items as available, even if they still might be in preorder (delayed release date). For example, there is a product I preordered last June, which they are still waiting to get (original availability date was suppose to be at the end of last October) and the site has showed the item available (not in preorder) since the the item was originally suppose to be released. They should update the new expected release date for preorder items, if items are delayed from the original date, so possible buyers would know the items are not available yet and are not waiting to get them in some cases for months for nothing.

Order not complete

I ordered a bunch of figures from forbiddenplanet.co.uk at the end of December. They responded that some of the figures weren't in stock and they could not get any new ones from the supplier. Good and informative and a week later the first batch of my order was dispatched. The only problem is that now two months after my order I still haven't received the last batch and haven't gotten any explanation of the delay.

they take orders for out of stock goods and expect you to wait indefinitely for them.

I ordered 2 items as a Christmas pressent. I had the initial order confirmation but nothing else. so when I phoned to check on the items I was told that one of the items was out of stock so I asked to cancel the order. I was told that I couldn't do this even though the in-stock item still had not been shipped.

Legally I am entitled to a full refund (including delivery charges):

I then recieve and email telling me they have cancelled the out of stock item and when I try to phone them there is no answer.

Service is wanting

I keep coming back to Forbidden Planet International, just because they tend to offer such good deals and variety on graphic novels, but every time I order with them (always preorders), my item is delayed, which is understandable, nearly all these things are published in the States and as everyone is aware release dates can be pushed back, but I am not informed. I know it is not a hug website and I imagine it runs on a relative skeleton crew, but surely if a website of this calibre can be created, then why cannot there be some sort of (even automated) notification system to tell you there has been a delay and an expected release date. They update so many parts of their website (at least weekly!), that it couldn't be much harder to let their (once) loyal customers what the deal is. I don't mind waiting longer, really I don't, but I need to be told that I am waiting and if possible, why I am waiting longer! Once I have received the order I am waiting on, I am afraid I think this will have to be the last time I use forbiddenplanet.co.uk.

Still waiting for my order to be completed after an entire month !!!

I ordered three comics from this company over a month a go and only received one with no explanation of when I would receive the other two. Or why I have been charged for shipping for three items when I've only received one?
I have sent email inquiries to this company but no answers have still been forthcoming. How difficult can it be to explain the situation to a customer? In my opinion, ignoring customers is really the most cowardice action a company can take.
This is the worst online shopping experience I have ever encountered and that's saying something from a person who orders everything online 99% of the time (including groceries) and have done so for well over the last ten or more years.
Btw, I live in England so there's no logical reason this should have taken this long.
I will never order from this company ever again!

No problems but delivery a little slow

Bought a limited edition signed book. Took a while to arrive. I didn't realise it wasn't a stock item, which was why it was delayed. However I was kept up to date with delivery etc. and it arrived very well packaged, safe and sound. I am happy to recommend Forbidden Planet.
