The least professional, least reliable, least credible eccomerce outlet I've ever found

Terrible customer service/ownership of courier service failings and all-round zero interest in remedying own failings to fulfil the order.
The product itself - a BillyOh 8 x 6 20M Rustic Overlap Apex shed - is fine (well the parts they managed to deliver are): I mean it's cheap and cheerful, warping and flimsy but I'm not complaining about the product itself - the quality is fine for the price tag. The amount of parts for £200 is a fair deal I'd say: if you want a shed with a life span you should be prepared to stump up more. So I'm satisfied enough with the product - would've been a content shopper if they hadn't performed so badly in aftersales: can be believe in todays eccomerce market a company can't get something as simple as customer service right when there's so much competition out there.
The issue is the shockingly poor service: placing the order and the initial delivery stages were all good; I was happy that they rung ahead to confirm etc. Then came the numerable failings: firstly the day the parts (some of) were delivered I planned to stay In all day so as to not miss it - I have an open front yard which the parts were stacked and left in: no one rang the door bell to say they were there, there was no delivery note or any paperwork at all left - so irresponsible to not have a product of a relatively significant value signed for and left vulnerable and exposed - at no time did I indicate they could leave it without signature etc.
When I came to checking through the parts I noticed the lack of smaller wood fittings and screws, hinges etc: when I rang customer services to confirm missing parts she asked me which weren't there - ha pretty hilarious to try and explain with no paperwork to illustrate what should be there! She said the missing wood kit would be processed and delivered in 3+ days (this company cover their back when they mess stuff up like this - which they clearly do often if you read reviews - by saying they have 28 days to COMPLETE an order - what a shocking joke when you are made to be believe you'll have a product on a specified date - especially with an assembly project which you plan your time around).
The following week I emailed and called most days to try ascertain the re-delivery status (don't bother to email though because they rarely reply) - I feel sorry for the customer service phone advisors having to deal with all the dissatisfied customers. Eventually I got email confirms that my parts would be delivered the following day, the Thursday. I booked the day off work to ensure I didn't miss it and assuming they'd just leave it in the front yard without notice again. I did not leave the house all day without exception, no delivery. I can't believe how poor that is!?! It's bad enough to be slack in remedying the parts redelivery but to send a formal delivery confirm and not fulfil it, unexplained. I lost a day of wages just to be at home, angry and disappointed.
This is where I'm up to - no explanation or apology as to what happened on Thursday and still with 3/4 of a shed. It's really been a stress and a burden the past couple of weeks and I tried to be accommodating of mistakes but they are just inexcusable now I feel. Ruined my Easter weekend anyway: I allocated the time to assemble this shed and booked the first delivery slot accordingly. I put up the shed buying my own screws and nails but still await the wood kit to fix my windows and door etc. Who's to say if I'll ever get the parts or if they'll bother to explain why they didn't fulfil the redeliver confirm - maybe I'll get a 'the courier broke down' - oh yeah also one of the customer advisors on the phone also shopped their own (external)courier services out by saying they were pretty flaky and erratic regarding leaving things!! These guys are professional!!!!!
Please, please google reviews on this company before shopping with them: there are a lot of people out there with a similar experience regarding deliveries and customer service: it's not worth the hassle and mental strain; spend £50 and go with a credible, professional company.

Not as good as I hoped-product and service wise

Website crashed when paying but spoke to advisor and confirmed transaction had gone through. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to choose my delivery date, contacted them and they changed it as I wanted. Delivery was nice and early at 7.45am, unfortunately it all went downhill from here. The warehouse forgot to send our shed floor so was straight on the phone only to be told "can't you get one yourself"? I was not impressed as I had specifically taken two days off work to put the shed up and they had 3 weeks to process the order! After a few emails to try and find out when my floor would turn up, it was confirmed for Thursday. Now upon erecting the shed we have found one preassembled panel has a massive split in it, when the panel was made they must have seen it because the staple straddles it! The roof felt was a joke and had a split in it after it was unravelled. We had to go out and buy more. The shed door is badly warped and not straight at the top or bottom so we have had to plane it slightly and buy a second thumb turn to try and help reshape the door. Where the hinges are supposed to go hits the overlap of the wood so we have had to move the hinges and put extra wood behind the door. Basically I wasn't expecting perfection as it is a cheap shed but thought some better care could be made by both manufacturer and supplier. I estimate £35 has been spent on top of my order to rectify the problems. Quite disappointed. Still learnt from this experience, 1 - don't buy a shed off the internet unless you have seen the exact one in a shop to see it for real, 2 - once happy don't buy it from gardenbuildingsdirect.

Very good value for money, excellent service.

Needed a small, simple shed for my recently acquired allotment. No bells or whistles wanted, just a decent, simple structure. That is exactly what I got. You can spend A LOT more money if you wish, and get better quality, but for under £200 including delivery and upgrade premium standard floor, the sheds from these friendly helpful people tick all my boxes. Excellent instructions too, built it with a friend in two hours with no problems whatsoever. Had one very minor issue which I contacted customer services about and they sorted me out in no time flat. Also, must mention, Delivery bang on time, very friendly helpful guy who phoned as requested, arrived, unloaded and helped to put where needed. All just simply 5 stars, 100%.

One of the best internet companies I've ever used

We ordered what we thought we needed and right from the off the communications were excellent. We knew when our order was being picked, what was the target delivery date was. We had confirmation that our order was on its way and it was duly delivered as promised.
Once we took delivery we realised that there we 2 items we didn't need, I called the company and they informed me they had a 10 day no quibble returns policy so it wasn't a problem and they would arrange for free collection. Again this all went smoothly and the returns were collected on the agreed day.
My credit card was credited within the week.
Brilliant service, I would definitely use this company again.

Storage problems solved!!!

This was a great purchase with very speedy delivery (lid was a bit damaged but not bad enough to return) and perfect for keeping things dry when stored outside. Everyone should have one.

Damaged parts and customer service lies.

Got delivery on Wednesday (9th April) with 3 (three !) damaged parts. Also the driver had damaged parts from previous delivery, so clearly not unusual. This leaves me in a situation of having wasted 2 days off. I explained to customer services that tt is highly unlikely I can find time until May unless the parts arrive by the weekend. The T&C gives them 5 days I think, but I needed the parts by today Friday (i.e. 2 days later), so I just wanted clarity. So the customer services lady checked with someone and came back and said "yes, delivery by Friday". It turns out this was fiction.

Apart from whoever it was made up the promise of delivering the replacement parts, the individuals have been fine, but as an organisation it's shambolic. Loads of my time wasted and probably loads of their time as well, particularly if I have to cancel because I can't get time to put the ruddy thing up.

Update :
To be fair they have been helpful regarding the cancellation and collection as it needed to be done quite quickly. I'll wait to see what happens with the refund. In theory should be no problem.

Final Update :
Refund made with no problems and pretty promptly. Maybe I was just unlucky with damaged parts and a dodgy customer services rep.

If you want good after sales service don't touch them with a barge pole!

We didn't get past first base, literally, assembling our greenhouse as the stakes to level the base were missing. When we eventually got through to customer services (Thursday morning) we were told they would send out the missing stakes but we wouldn't get them until the following Monday and refused point blank to send them by next day delivery. Dread to think what else is missing but watch this space!!

Awful delivery experience and bad quality control on the product.

It seemed impossible for me to choose my delivery date, no one ever answered my emails, and the people i spoke to on the phone would promise me dates which didn't happen. The delivery was re-scheduled 3 times, i was never sent a confirmation email of my chosen dates and eventually the driver called me to tell me he would be arriving the next day - not a day i had chosen. On the day he arrived i received an email from the company telling me my delivery would be in 5-8 days. the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing here, and to be honest the product was shoddily made with split panels. 'Just the bearers' option was also a rip-off, simply £15 worth of timber you could buy from Wickes but they were charging £45. I wouldnt recommend these guys.

Complete bunch of incompetant idiots !

order shed, ask to change delivery date, emails ignored. phone up to change delivery date......get a call confirming delivery date that I had asked to change. then get emails saying shed is out for delivery on date I didn't want.

Asked for manager to call me back.......no calls after 10 days.

Finally shed arrives. 1 driver in lorry, so I have to help him get parts off lorry ! Parts missing.......parts damaged.......total lack of understanding from customer services.

Santander Bank are now handling the dispute on my behalf.

BUY FROM THIS BUNCH OF AMATEUR INCOMPETANT IDIOTS AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

Can't fault their service!

Very, very happy with GBD & their service. Ordered the BillyOh 4000 shed as a Christmas present for my hubby not really expecting it to arrive in time as I thought I'd missed the deadline. Was very happy to be told it would be here in time for Christmas & was kept regularly updated by text & email until we were in receipt of it. Sadly the awful winter storms meant we were unable to erect it until this week & that was when we realised there wasn't enough roofing felt. One phone call later & another roll of roofing felt was on it's way with no hassles. Excellent service & very happy with shed too! Very happy to recommend this company.

Wow! Three mistakes and a bare faced lie. Read on....

ALWAYS PAY BY CREDIT CARD AND SIGN THE DELIVERY AS “NOT CHECKED” BECAUSE THEY WILL LIE. I HAVE EVIDENCE OF THIS. Also, be warned driver did not give a receipt - make sure you get one!!

One slight problem, I can accept…. But three problems and lies makes me seethe! First of all the roof covering which I paid £60 extra for was not supplied fully. There was ONE roll - barely enough to cover one third of the roof. When I called they said delivery for replacement would be a week (what use is that when you're paying someone to put the building up?) I asked why they cannot use a next day service (considering I paid over £1000 for my building) but they wouldn't. I wasn't happy with that so asked if I could by my own and they reimburse me to which they said yes. I asked how much I could spend, they said £20-30 (when I paid £60 for the one I had not received - unbelievable!)

Now.... the doors and windows are going on as I type this..... They are PLASTIC. This is certainly not stated on the listing which states they are "single glazed" (with a double glazed upgrade option). False, mislead advertising. If your building says single glazed - you would think glass. End of. Over a grand for a small 2.5m building and you get plastic windows!

The third problem - there is a vital part missing from one of the doors so I have to wait for delivery on that also.

As for customer service.... hilarious (here's a snippet of my conversation so you'll get my drift!): "I've just sat for 20mins with a query about missing items from my order - but been ignored - but fully aware it had connected to an advisor. So I opened this separate session - with subject of "purchasing an item" - and immediately I am answered! Interesting that...."

UPDATE: The replacement roof rolls I bought were not quite matched in colour – so I had to buy FOUR rolls and have not used the roll they provided at all and. So, of course, I want my £60 refund that I paid them for the covering (and they are welcome to collect the one they sent me). The reply from them is laughable. In a nutshell hey claim they sent two rolls for the roof and have photographic evidence and will not refund me the £60 I paid! Well…. considering there was for a fact ONE roll – I’m not blind! Therefore they are bared face liars! Luckily I wrote “not checked” upon signing for the order. Of course they have not sent me the photo of the two rolls - because it's impossible as there was ONE roll! Even if they had sent two it would cover just over half the roof! I’ve sent them a photograph of the roll I received and the rolls I bought – showing the colour doesn’t quite match – proving I cannot use the roll received if I wanted to – further proving I should get a refund! (They are welcome to collect their roll – so what’s the problem????) Absolute cowboys. Never EVER again!

Also, they do not care about the plastic windows "in no way does it state that single glazing is glass". Perhaps they should word it "We are clever at tricking people".

I’m disputing it with my credit card company as soon as I finish this review. I will get my money back at the end of the day - even if it's just the £60 for the unreceived roof - as I have evidence and I paid by credit card.

Final tip: buy your own roof covering - costs much less from a builders merchant than the inferior rubbish they provide (or don't since they can't even get the quantities to match the building size!)

Or maybe follow this tip: Don't bother and pay a little more with an honest company who deserves your money!

Ok so here goes. Looking for a summerhouse for my 3 children to use during the summer and winter months, looked at loads of sites and found loads of really nice ones but the one that that stood out the most was GARDEN BUILDINGS DIRECT, the pictures looked fantastic and the price, WOW what a bonus !!! Well needless to say we didn't have to look elsewhere with those prices.

So we ordered the billyoh 4000 tongue and groove summerhouse, it arrived a month later and we couldn't wait to put it up, the husband spent ages treating and painting all the parts and a few days to erect it, and I have to say it looked fantastic and we couldn't have been more pleased. It looked the business.

THAT WAS LAST SUMMER !!!! It seems it didn't like the winter months very much. Now I know wood shrinks and expands during different weather conditions, but we are now left with big gaps between the tongue and groove and quite a few have warped awfully and are bent/curved, maybe i'm mistaken but isn't it supposed to interlock together :-S. The roof is now bowing due to losing strength, and the summerhouse as a whole it is not watertight any longer whatsoever.

So in a nutshell, if you only want a summerhouse that lasts a year, then garden buildings direct is the place to buy from :-)

Personally I wish I had spent a bit more money elsewhere, as we are now going to have to pay to try (and try being the operative word) to rectify the problem, but personally I think the only thing it will be used for this year is FIREWOOD.

Very Dissapointed with this product. I don't normally write reviews but I noticed that most of the reviews are from when a product is first purchased when its looks fantastic, so have written mine a year down the line, so that you all know what to expect.

CHEAP wood that I can only imagine has been stored outside for a considerable amount of time to have warped that badly within a space of a year, like the heading suggests, YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR !!!!

Overall good.

I Placed my order mid week for Dorset log cabin 4m x 2.5 and advised it would be a couple of weeks for delivery, got a call and advised it will be the coming monday, great.
Didn't get the promised 1hr before delivery call, luckly I was home. Deliver driver was very helpful, although its kerb side deliver he managed to squeeze his lorry down the driveway and down the side of the house under carport and to the rear of my property.

Timber quality
Walls good/very good , i went for the 44mm option
Roof and floor - 19mm option..majority good /very good, others where fit for a fire. However they over supplied the boards either by mistake or knowing some would be unsuitable. Some even had holes in the middle of the boards where knots once occupied.
The main timber build (walls and roof) was easy enough, started at 10am finished same day at 5pm. Instructions easy enough to follow .(I have good DIY skills)


Upgraded to roof shingles but instructions on correct method of installation non existent, found what i needed to know on shingle manufactures website and youtubep.
GBD supplied incorrect 10mm felt nails, now if i didn't pay attention to shingle manufactures website which tells you to use 20mm felt nails i'm sure i'd have been in trouble at first strong gust of wind. As well as nails the Shingles have on them a self sealing strip which in warm weather activates the sealer strips but in colder weather takes longer and manufactures recommend felt slap adhesive. 6 tubes of the stuff it took, (not supplied) roof shingles took 6-7 hours to fit

Windows and doors- double glazed upgraded,
Double glazing looks to be about 10mm.
During install of the doors, which are heavy, 3 out of 6 of the hinges snapped at their welds. No way was i going to wait for new ones to be sent out so didn't bother asking.
5 lever security lock kept sticking. Stripped it down and repaired it.which takes me onto another issue- what is the point in a 5 lever security lock when you can just unscrew the door and windows from their hinges which are on the exterior. No point in putting liquid weld on screw heads in case i need to adjust at a later date, poor poor design. Although i'm not exposed at the rear of the property others might be.

The floor boards are pre cut so they fit edge to edge , tight fit. Other internet building guides say to leave a gap.

Don't expect it to be wind and a water tight without taking steps. The doors don't close together on a butt joint they sit side by side leaving a gap down the middle, purchased plastic draught excluding strips, one on the inside and one outside, looks good and not out of place. Foam tape around the windows and doors helps,
Where the walls interlock each other you can see daylight all the way up the walls,they do supply beading boards that cover these gaps (fixed on the inside) but that doesn't mean water wont get in. I purchased some finishing beading strips from local timber yard ,20mm by about 7mm used silicon sealant along all the outside gaps and covered with the timber strips, i know timber expands and shrinks in different seasons but i can not have water coming in.
Although a good fit Wind can possibly get in where the wall touches the roof, again they supply cloaking board which are fixed on the inside, water can not come in but wind noise/draughts could. Applied Silicone sealant to the inside then fixed the cloaking boards. Overall 12 tubes of sealant used.
Where the building sits on the pressure treated bearers water can seep under, you could add silicone along the exterior bearers or some guides suggested a strip of damp proof . I blocked off and sealed the ends of the building to stop any excess water getting under and it helps keep rodents out from under the building,

Some advise- used a good wood preserver and apply BEFORE you build, this way it gets into the tongue and groove,2 coats . DON'T build it and stain later as per fitting instructions. I have somewhere under cover so weather not an issue for me.
Staining takes the longest 4 days. I used Cuprinol 3-1 4L Ultimate Garden Wood Protector, autumn brown 6 tins, and used Cuprinol 2.5 ltr 3-1 ultimate decking stain for the floors (harder wearing) CHOSE ALL THE SAME BATCH NUMBER.

Now that its complete it looks good
