Bought the Honda 18" self drive lawnmower, was best value I could find. Delivery was within two days of ordering. Arrived in good condition. Put the mower together with good clear instructions and started after 4 pulls. Each subsequent pull started first time. The documentation showed the mower had been checked over by the technician and the pre delivery inspection sheet completed-which is the first time I have come across this. In my experience so far a great company to buy from and a great mower.
I purchased a HUSQVARNA lawn mower on the Friday evening for £387 and rang up on the Saturday to confirm that the order was correct and was told that it would be delivered the following Tuesday. I noted that the website had been amended to a new price of£429.
I waited in on Tuesday for the delivery, at 11:00 I received a phone call from garden Machinery Direct informing me that the model I had ordered was not in stock, they had a cheeper model in stock, and gave me the option of the cheaper model or my money back, or wait until mid December for new stock(at a higher price?
They offered my money back which I accepted.
So what's my problem you ask? I chose a lawn mower based on price and specification only to be let down, if I want to be messed around I will buy from ebay.
A poor show garden machinery direct.
I ordered a Honda tiller/rotavator on the afternoon of 1 Oct, had an email to say it had been despatched 2 Oct, rang GMD on Thursday Oct 3 about 3pm, as I had a funeral to go to on Friday. I was assured it would be delivered that day, and it was, at 5pm.
Sunday took it to allotment, pulled the starter cord to get the oil mixed round the crank, put in some petrol again gave it a few pulls with the ignition off, then it started first pull. NO COMPLAINTS WHATSOEVER.
The part I'd ordered was delivered very quickly, though not identical to the expected part, I called customer service to queri it, leaving them a brief message, they called me back promptly and resolved the problem quickly, I felt valued as a customer and will use them again!
Good deal and a decent service, but most other internet vendors would keep you updated in a clearer and timelier way.
Apart from that its a good experience.
Mower arrived having been PDI'd and everything as stated.
Husqvarna hedge cutter ordered. Not delivered or any communication received to explain. Rang up and chased. Was told that there was a problem at Husqvarna and that I should expect to wait another week or so. Not good as £400+ machine is to be used professionally and was ordered for specific jobs.
I have purchased two honda products through garden machinery direct and on both occasions the order process has been very straight forward. The order is acknowledged by email and you are further notified of dispatch and given a tracking number. The delivery is by a national carrier and is very prompt.
Overall highly recommend.
If it ever gets delivered I shall be happy.
The staff who answered my query were extremely helpful and friendly and explained why it had not come.

Simple ordering process, a quick clear acknowledgement of order, notice of dispatch with tracking number, next-day-delivery following dispatch. All in all a good buying experience. Lets hope the after-sales is as good if the rotavator goes wrong.

The original cnsignment has a defective motor. I returned this to you and you eventually arranged for a complete replacement new Rotavator. This has now been assembled and is working satisfactorily. Thank you for your prompt attention
Website showed "Parts in stock for quick deliver". Following day received e-mail parts not in stock, but website still showed "Parts in stock for quick delivery" Misrepresentation!
Happy with the ordering process and speedy delivery to this part of the country. Pity though about the nylon line being loaded incorrectly on the spool as it went to only one strand on first use. Turns out there were TWO separate lengths hooked into each of the tie points on the spool.
Transaction was smooth and simple delivered in time as said but the packaging box was in a terrible state as if it had been opened and returned the hedge trimmer had one or two minor scratches on it which made me consider if it had been used. I accepted it and hoping for the best.

Ordered on line but recived no order acknowledgement. Money had been taken form my card so had to phone to find out what was happening. Very helpful young lady did chase it up and get back to me. Not sure if the problem lay with GMD or Husqvarna. Past experience of the latter didn't impress me !
On this purchase I bought only 2 stroke oil, but it's hard to get high performance genuine Sthil oil locally. I've found that even with delivery charge, buying 5 litres still works out cheaper than buying fully synthetic oil from Halfords or elsewhere and it beats using standard 2 stroke oil at 25::1 ratio. Why use dubious oils in your Sthil power machinery when you can use the genuine Sthil oil cheaper? Then you have the cost of fuel and time to go out and buy from other sources.
I've found over the years that it does not pay to buy cheap shoddy garden machinery. I use chain saws and brush cutters a devil of a lot and i have found that Sthil are amongst the best and having searched the field, for chainsaws and hedge cutters I could not find a better price than Ron Smiths Garden Machinery Direct. Then you have an excellent back up service with fully competent staff where you can take the machines back if you have any problems and get the right spares for them when they need them. Also parking is a serious consideration these days. You would not want to lug a ride on mower half way across the city!
A firm that does exactly what it says it does. The item I ordered arrived promptly, an easy trouble free transaction. I would certainly recommend this firm to other on line buyers.
