Have bought so much stuff from the company that I should consider shares in them. Ordered an item online and given a reference number. Within an hour I received a text stating that the item was ready for collection and would be held for me till closing time the following day. Obviously the item was in the 'ordered cage' within an hour of me ordering online. Slick operation and easily collected from store. Nothing but praise for the staff.

One of the best customer services I have come accross

Purchased a drinks bottle which had a slight flaw with the seal. When I contacted Go Outdoors they replaced the bottle within 2 days. Fantastic service.

Have shopped quite a few times at Go Outdoors, the staff are very helpful and go out of their way to help you. My husband bought Walking Boots and the assistant went out her way to price match the boots and got us a good discount.

Go Outdoors promise to beat a competitor price by 10% and I have used this for a couple of items and found it easy to arrange and easy to fulfill at the store you want.
Got a GPS and some new Scarpa walking boots for a great price both times.
Special mention for the lady on hiking boots at Widnes who was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Great service and a 'Stand On' Guarantee

I was always a bit suspicious about the whole Discount Card thing, so for my first few low value purchases I didn't get one. No problems to the staff who are very happy to serve you in any case. Then I needed some walking shoes and it made perfect sense, especially when I saw then a few pounds cheaper elsewhere. My team member quickly and efficiently confirmed the deal and the discount, and extra 10% off, was applied, and I was a very happy shopper!

Oh and the quality of the advice is excellent, just enough to allow you to make the right choice without in any way being pushy!

Superb Advice & Guidance - 100% Recommended, especially for Novices!

I am a complete novice in anything outdoors - I've managed to somehow avoid all 'activities' in the great outdoors in my 36 years... however, all that has changed with a mid-life crisis and signing up for a Mount Killimanjaro challenge in 16 months time (how, why?!!). I went to Go Outdoors, Southampton, to purchase the very necessary hiking boots - after taking advice that these are needed NOW to wear in... so off I trot!

I had the pleasure of having Chris 'deal with me' - he was an older guy who had a wealth of experience in all things walking/trekking... and his advice was absolutely superb... I spent around 2 hours in the shop - listening, talking, trying on 6-7 different boots and having a walk around the store etc... I cannot say enough how amazing Chris and his advice/guidance was. He did not 'judge' that I knew absolutely nothing about what I needed... he was calm, patient, very communicative and I felt that he really 'cared' that I got the right boot. Following this, he also advised me on socks and walking poles... by the time I left the shop (albeit with an empty purse!!) I had 1 complete outfit (trousers, t'shirt, trekking socks, boots and walking poles) - so that I could 'begin' my training.

He said to come in 'any time' if I need any more advice - saying he'd be happy to help as he's passionate about people getting the right equipment... I really felt like a valued customer - and couldn't have asked for a better experience at Go Outdoors, Southampton. Thank you :)

HI HO, HI HO Camping we go.

Have only one issue with this WONDERFUL store. I love the products, some can be overpriced but they match AND take 10% off if you have comparable stock priced cheaper elsewhere. To my one issue with them, I purchased a quality tent from them a few years ago ( vango dlx800) at the time was not told that the product WAS ONLY COMMISSIONED for gooutdoors and I would find it impossible to find a matched "footprint and canopy" for my family tent.... Oh yes, the company dont stock them or sell them either. Very poor on that matter, felt like the sale went through and there was no forethought on the company to provide matched accessories. Oh yes and no carpet either, ended up purchasing a generic. "own brand -Highgear'" carpet. Overall good bit let down by the little things that make a difference between good and excellent.

From that time to now, we do try to make sure we mention online when an item is exclusive to GO Outdoors to prevent this kind of issue. Not all tents do have accessories though i'm afraid and had we had the chance we would certainly have stocked them too.

Simply Outstanding!!!

I went into the Thurrock store to look for a bike and the staff were incredible, helpful and not pushy at all. I then decided to purchase a bike and the store built up the bike expertly. The staff again were exceptional, helpful and would ask any question I needed. They even helped me put the bike in the car for me. One of the best experiences of buying a product I ever had well done Go Outdoors and the staff at Thurrock store.

Shockingly bad customer service, at Goelsewhere

My local store is the Edgware road branch in north west London.

You can pre-order online and if they decide it's not in stock they just delete your order, they don't telephone you, they don't text you, they don't email you.

Their website bares no relation to what's in stock in the store, it's a pure fantasy world.

Their staff behave as if they have no interest in whatever in serving the customers.

In these economic times you would think a business would have a desire to please their customers and encourage customers satisfaction.

The same can be applied to the so called customer service staff at head office and the sooner the company goes bust and is relaunched by someone who cares it will be better, called twice, quote "my manager, he's having his dinner". No reply and this is by now day 2 of the complaint.

If it was my firm I would not tolerate it.

Please point me in the direction of a shop that wants my money, because this shop should not be named gooutdoors but should be renamed to,

Goelsewhere.

Day 3 of the no contact sage.
Emailed BRANDON after his reply, will he get in contact or is he eating his dinner?

We're very sorry to hear of this. We'll certainly pass the top of this feedback on to our Edgware Road branch as if reserved items aren't available you should certainly be receiving a text/email to state this as is the process in all of our stores.

Our website shows stock that the stores have on their stock file, this can become skewed around clearance/reduced to clear stock as they have been in the business a while. Numbers can be wrong in regard to theft/damage or display stock that isn't fit for sale. Upon finding this the stores process is to then remove the stock from their file to stop this appearing on the website to prevent further disappointing customers.

Buy branded and forget their North Ridge stuff

I was given a North Ridge coat (GO's own brand) about 11 months ago and the waterproof seams have literally fallen off the back. The coat was in the £170 price range and you don't expect this. GO's answer is for me to drive a 2 hour round trip to their store and their staff will decide whether it's a warranty issue. They also want a receipt of purchase (most places do) which I don't have as it was a gift. North Ridge is their own brand so you can only buy it from them! They can trace how old the coat is by it's model and see how it's been treated when they view it.

Basically don't buy their home brand stuff and stick to brands with a good warranty policy that you can return to any dealer.

Sorry to hear of your issue with your North Ridge jacket, like most retailers we do need to have the item back with us to check it's a warranty issue, especially when an item is out of the standard returns period.

Receipts are required as proof of purchase so we don't accept returns on stolen goods; purchases can be looked up on the discount card of the person that purchased the item.

Which item was it you were having issues with? Most of the North Ridge range was brand new in Autumn/Winter 2013 having improved on previous designs from the winter before. Sometimes a bad article of clothing can come through manufacture however, and we fully accept that which is why we invite anyone with an issue to return the product, if they believe it was unfit for purpose. This goes for North Ridge and any other brand we stock, as the item is returned to the manufacturer for checking.

Cant use gift vouchers online!!!!

I am a big fan of Go Outdoors so was very disappointed to find that when my local store didn't have what I wanted in stock, I tried to use my gift voucher online and soon found out after some difficulty that they do not accept gift vouchers online.
I find this a little frustrating as most retailers do. This has now put me off especially as I wanted to get vouchers for my son who lives some distance away for his outdoor course.
I'll be back but not for birthday and Christmas vouchers, I'll have to give that custom to an outdoor retailer that accepts them online, sorry Go Outdoors, bad points on this one!!

So glad to have this store in Plymouth

Since this store opened I have spent a small fortune there. recently I bought a Garmin Oregon GPS but found that he battery would not last over 2 hours. lorraine, the manageress took great trouble to get the matter resolved & readily agreed to exchange it for a Garmin 62s which is a star & trouble free.
We have had some wonderful offers in this store & always found the staff to be polite & try hard to help. We have a good knowledge of outdoor gear so cant quote on the reviews that staff dont know their stock but we have always found that the staff are very willing to find an answer if they dont know & in a store that big its hard to be an expert on every item of stock. We are delighted to have this super store nearby & wish them every success.

Cheap and wide selection, but poor staff knowledge

Prices range from cheaper than the market average to competitive (providing you have purchased the "discount" card at £5.00 per year).

However, the competitive prices come at the expense of staff knowledge and customer service. Save a few pounds, but hope that you don't have any problems with your purchase!

An Amazing Price!

I often use Go Outdoors and, with their discount card, prices are usually pretty good. Where they excel though is with their 10% Price Guarantee. I recently bought a Berghaus Mera Peak jacket, which they had on sale for £225. I found it on line somewhere else for the ridiculous price of £150 and they matched that with a further 10% off - a massive saving of nearly £90 (£115 below rrp). A great store but even better when you bother to check prices elsewhere first.

So many times not in stock

The idea of mass marketing so many products to the nation where the fine selection of the best products and bargains are always only in stock in one store is a very divisive way of making it look like there are great bargains to be had.

Using the online store stock check often only shows this product in the one store 300 miles away. And then, if by chance the offer is close by, it often happens to be out of stock for some other 'unknown' reason, the excuse is usually theft.

They don't have the means to post these items because they want them to remain unobtainable so they can advertise and entice people in with them.

To be fair I have had a few bargains from them, but because of this annoying marketing strategy whereby, this happened to me again 2 days ago, I i'm turning more and more to other stores.

Hi there,

Items with limited stock are often clearance/discontinued items that are in fact reduced to clear, in this case some stores (including our online store) will sell out much faster than other stores. We try to be careful not to advertise via mailshot or email any items that have very limited availability.

Our website shows all the stock on all our stores stock files, items available in some stores may not be realistically obtainable to some viewers, but to somebody near the store it gives them a chance to reserve the item ahead of collection.

By the time an item reaches end of line status, it can sometimes occur that the stock on the file may be inaccurate on the stores file and it had gone unnoticed. This can occur due to theft/display stock or damaged items that aren't fit for re-sale. On discovery that this item isn't available, the store is instructed to remove it from it's file to prevent it showing online and further disappointing customers, we certainly wouldn't actively advertise a product with this little availability.

Stock availability is something we are always working on to improve, so we do appreciate the feedback and all our new/current ranges are available across our stores and online.

Helpful Knowledgeable Staff great value for money

Finally the Lincoln Store is open, well worth the wait. I paid the £5 for the discount card, and saved over £100 on first shop and the discount cards last a whole year. Staff very friendly and helper, and Chris is the Fishing section knows his stuff as well.

Great Prices, Great Selection, Great Service

My first (and now only) port of call for any outdoor equipment. Combine the great selection of products, with the extremely competitive prices, not to mention the great service from friendly staff, and I see no reason to shop elsewhere. My experiences have been mainly with the Bedford store, but I have also found the same when visiting the Newcastle Upon Tyne branch too.
