If you pay regularly they are okay but once you stop paying for featured ads or bump up daily your ads they all of a sudden start deleting your ads with no reason. I have been with them over the phone, email, chat to explain me the reason and they all say " your ads does not comply with our rules" After careful reading them 10 times, there is nothing wrong with our ads. Then if I repost it and pay it as featured there is no problem.
They are nice for small businesses and to reach some lovely customers but their support and system is bad. I personally think there are 10 people over there who are running the company and that is all.
Now they went too far by pushing us to get a banner and we denied and now we got some of our ads deleted again. Sadly they are cheap and work for small business but I am definitely on the look out for any other company site that can offer me the same.
On top they promised to call me like 3 times now and solve my issues but they never get back to me unless I am willing to pay for a banner or for a 2-3 featured ads which is just ridiculous.
I've been a member of gumtree for over 5 years, always obeying rules and their conduct.
Then all of a sudden I get all my ads removed for no reason, I then emailed them and all I got was 'your ad doesn't meet our rules'! What a load of rubbish!
I checked my ads but nothing was wrong, what the hell do they think their playing at, rumour has it apparently after a while if you have never paid for anything on their site, they do this to you.
I now still get my emails ignored just for trying to find out what the hell I haven't done wrong.

Not only is the site full of scammers, rip-off merchants and people who spend all day posting multiple ads but genuine ads are removed for no reason at all. As for customer service if they have anybody working there then they need a rocket up their a***holes as the service is pathetic.
Gumtree used to be a great site. Not any more! The site is full of scammers and dodgy sellers alike. I have been stung for the last time with this website. Others please steer clear! Not only do they take your money and flush your ad they don't care if people rip you off either. I basically look at it like this : if there is no where else that will let someone sell an item - Gumtree will, stolen, broken or non existant. Good bye Gumtree!
As a regular e bay user, I had no qualms in buying something off Gumtree. Not even when the seller took a whole week to dispatch the item, with excuses about "not being able to get out of work".
However, when the item still had not arrived a further 4 days later,I contacted the seller and politely requested the Royal Mail tracking number. Again more excuses about work, and also a load of garbage about it could take up to 15 days to arrive - for first class recorded delivery ? I don't think so.
When I politely question the delay, the seller started to get very defensive, and ironically accused me of trying to scam him. When he eventually got round to supplying the tracking number, he e mailed me to say that the item had been signed for, which proved I was trying to rip him off.
Unfortuantely this particular seller was not the sharpest tool in the box; when I looked at the Royal Mail site it was clear that the signature was clearly a different surname than mine, not even close. On phoning RM, they advised that the fkwit had addressed it to the wrong house number, about 5 minutes walk from where I actually live.
Although I did try and point this out to him, he was oblivious to the facts, and refused to cooperate over making a claim for loss against RM, which I required his name and address for.
On contacting Gumtree for their help in obtaining this info, they flatly refused on the grounds of not breaching the Data Protection Act. I therefore asked them to e mail the seller and ask him to cooperate by contacting me direct, but they even refused to do this.
About as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Dont use Gumtree, you have no protection, unlike ebay who will always seek to help.
Terrible customer service. Zero protection for customer (I got ripped off by a 'seller' to the tune of £150 and there's nothing I can do about it!). Advise to stay away from this website as there's nothing in place if the transaction goes wrong. Better off with eBay etc. My worst online buying experience - BAR NONE!
I think a lot of though has gone into the user-friendly interface with easy select menus etc. I have bought / sold items easily and I find it better to put a contact number if selling so you get an idea who is buying and if they seem keen and not a time waster!
Individual experience may vary and if you can't shift the stuff your selling it's probably not GT at fault, people may not actually want to buy what your selling or your advert may not be worded well.
The only thing I can fault is I found it recently very slow to up-load photos when selling an item and I kept being timed out in the process. Although this maybe because the pic resolution was too high? Still being timed out after around 2/3 min was a tad excessive I think?
Gumtree is a great idea but with the free an low price items peole just do not return you calls/emails and often the adverts are left up for days after something has gone.
I know, I know, what do i expect from free or cheap stuff....well I would hope people would remove adverts when things are sold, its not much to ask and I seem to invest a ot of time into very politely replying to adverts and getting no reply back
My experience of selling items is good, and yes, the very first thing to do after sellin g someting is i take the advert down !
i love the concept of gumtree but i find it hard to search for items as i live on the edge of two areas (essex but live in london borough). if the had search options similar to various other sites where you could search for X miles from your postcode i think this would not only improve the site but also the amount items sold on gumtree.
FIrst time I have advertised items online(twice in total) not only is it free and very easy to set-up and reaches many people but also the resulting sales for both items were easy and quick to complete. What is also a very good point-your personal details are not displayed openly and any responses are sent to you via Gumtree so it is your choice if you wish to respond-which also goes via Gumtree. Well done Gumtree-excellent service
Very reliable website and it is great to have such service for free but there are lots of spams so be careful with who you are making business!
Whether you're selling something or offering a job GumTree does the trick - always get a good response to adverts.
Think the site has improved since Google bought it.
The Gumtree experience is all down to yourself.
Always make sure your selling/buying from someone local, have a proper look 'in person' at what's on offer & you can't go wrong...10/10.
If it goes t i t s up,you've only yourself to blame.
Happy purchasing.
Gumtree is promoted as a free service to enable you to sell your unwanted goods. To an extent it is true, you can sell some items for free, but others to get any real exposure you need to upgrade to some of their paid enhanced listings. It is a little sneaky when you think E-bay is upfront about fees before you list and they have a much larger following. I would say give Gumtree a go within the free listings, and if no cigar consider other options before paying. Gumtree still might be the right place for your unwanted items.
Gumtree itself is a very useful service. It has a lot more things posted than Craigslist.
Gumtree is excellent you can many great deals and also sell so many things. i did use adtrader but i tend to look on gumtree much more because its a better service so big up gumtree
Gumtree is a eager company with a high ambition. It is quite vulnerable to hackers and could do with some sort of sorting system e.g.
Price - High to Low
Condition - New or Used
More options such as wanting to display where you live should be a basic 'button click'. Probably the thing that i found most irritating was that you cannot search for just 'Scotland' or 'England, you have to go through all the major places.
In conclusion i would recommend this company but be cautious in doing so.
you say £100 and people text they are too rude to ring, asking if you will take £40 instead and haggle you down , and if the reply simply says 'do you still have this?' it is from a scammer, people email you trying to get things posted again illegal, as it is meant to be a local ads free site. what about the tv i was selling i said the remote control came with it but the 'back was missing , although it still worked ok. 'some nob emailed asking if the tv worked ok even with the back missing, i was in stitches laughing imagining all the components and circuit boards and wires dangling out the back of it , this is what you are up against. people ask for your money and promise to post by what i have read a lot of nutters actually have sent money and waited .and waited. lol .the site and the police say only trade face to face, count the money make sure it is real as people use fake money on gumtree and sell stolen goods. it is ok for freebies .i have got rid of beds and washing machines that saved me paying the council a fee to remove....always some foreign trampy refugees happy enough to come for your battered beaten mattress
I have tried to sell a wedding dress, shower pump, fridge, car etc on gumtree and never sold one of them. Not even a single enquiry apart from someone who wants to buy it for their cousin in Nigeria!!!! all Scammers. Not like it used to be. There MUST be a way to police this or will it be against the scammers human rights!!!!
Every single day I report at least 20 posts on my local Cambridge Gumtree site. Every city site is rife with scammers placing ads for accommodation, non existing pets and cars!
Sometimes I report an ad (usually one quite obviously fraudulant) and it takes HOURS for it to be taken down.
Gumtree needs a system making it impossible for people using an IP address not located in the UK to place ads - most of these scammers are in Nigeria!
From accommodation trough job and gadgets and much more. Bought few items via this web site and also sold few. Will help you if you have some problems, as well.
I visit them everyday.
