Liverpool Islington Centre, Excellent Service

I booked my car in for an MOT and they had appointments the very next day, i had been a bit worried as it was Halfords and the thought of it being a big company but they where great I met with Dave, explained that this is my first MOT as I had just passed and he was very reassuring would recommend to anyone

Good service but poor quality goods.

I bought a Carrera Zelos racing bike from the Halfords store in Market Harborough on Friday 18th April. On riding it home which was less than a mile I noticed the chain was rubbing on the gear mechanism due to the chain wheel being slightly buckled and the rear wheel was out of true also. I took it back and they agreed to fix it. On collection the following day I was told the rear wheel was fixed but every single chain wheel on all the bikes in stock was the same, ie buckled. They offered to order an upgraded chain wheel FOC and fix it next week. On arrival at home I noticed the mechanic has damaged the down tube. Looks like a drill bit has dug into the frame. I have touched it up with some white paint but it looks horrid. I knew I was buying a cheap bike when compared with a local independent dealer but never thought this would happen. I can't decide whether to bother telling Halfords for not or simple get the chain wheel fixed and never buy anything from Halfords again. Overall very poor show.

Great service - Helpful staff

Went into the High Wycombe store needing a CR2016 battery for my car keys, Alex the deputy manager was very helpful and did it on site there and then. Really pleased with the service from Halfords today.

Took over 2 hours to do mot

Car was booked in for mot at 10.45 I returned at 11.40 to collect my car and it hadn't even gone in for it it was finally done at 12.30 no apology for the bad service unfortunately I have to go back for a re test but will never go here again after

Whats the alternatibve?

After desperately bad service at halfords trying to buy a decent bike for my 10 year old son, I'm left wondering whether I could have looked somewhere else - another company which would have actually shown some kind of interest in selling me a suitable product. Any ideas?

very happy with Sunderland autocentre

Just had four new tyres fitted here, I ordered with some trepidation after reading some of the reviews but am more than happy with the service received and would certainly recommend these to anyone. My normal tyre fitter quoted £55 a corner to fit budget tyres Halfords fitted "quality" tyres for only £2 more (after using a discount code). The manager and staff were spot on and there was no hard sell attempt for other services, the manager even rang me and offered an earlier time slot than I originally had booked...excellent service from start to Finnish !!!

Mechanic threatened to beat me up

Took my 57 plate grand scenic to have cam belt and water pump done. The quote was very high but I was willing to pay extra because halfords is such a big company I thought at least it will be done properly. Went to collect my car and instantly realised there was a very large (fist size) dent down to the metal. They denied it but I knew it was them because we look after the car so much and know exactly where every little mark is. Then driving home there was squeaky noises coming from engine, I lifted the bonnet only to realise the engine cover was missing and they had not replaced the coolant after water pump change. Drove there straight away expecting them to find the cover and refit it, after a bit of arguing with the mechanic because he called me a liar and it must of fell off when I was driving home he said lol he came up to me and said I better get out of the garage or he's gonna kick my head in, in front of my 3 children. Please avoid this company, halfords autocenter longwell green Bristol.

Very Unhappy - will stay away - Halfords Autocentre Peterborough

Took my fairly new Toyota (only done 14,500 miles) to them (as the Warranty company's preferred repairer) to diagnose a whining noise coming from under the bonnet, was diagnosed as water pump gone, replaced water pump, belt, antifreeze etc, I paid the excess as warranty company wouldn't cover the whole work. However, did not make any difference to the noise (hence I believe diagnosis was wrong and water pump replacement was unnecessary), took it straight back, made an appointment for their engineers to relook at it today only to be told that both engineers won't be at work for a while, they will ring me when the engineers are back at work, can't tell when though. No sign of any refund of what I have paid. No ownership taken of what has happened or any further advice given, even when I asked as to whether I could drive the car or what to drive in the meantime. I asked that they keep the original water pump that was removed from the car and was told - "will try our best". Waiting to speak to warranty company now. I am totally unhappy and won't be using them anymore. Waiting for warranty company to resolve matter and advice further.

Very happy!

Went into halfords in ebeneezer road Newport gwent as a back light bulb went. They put a new one in in about 2 minutes, and when I went in to pay, he said it was free that the paperwork to do a bill would take longer to do than it was worth! This has happened to me on a previous occasion in a halfords where they did the work but didn't charge, but said if I wanted I could put a few coins in the charity box. Very polite friendly and efficient, and good value for money ( ie free!) well done halfords!

AVOID AVOID AVOID - I WOULD RATHER SET MY CAR ON FIRE THEN SEND IT TO THIS PLACE

ONE OF THE WORST COMPANIES YOU COULD POSSIBLY GO TO. IT'S A SUPRISE THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS. WENT IN FOR A SIMPLE TIRE CHANGE AND THEY CAUSED DAMAGE TO MY CAR. THEY AREED TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE. HOWEVER AFTER 3 WEEKS OF THE NEW TIRE BEING FITTED BOTH OF THEM ARE LEAKING AIR.

THE MANAGER, ROY, ABERDEEN BRANCH SAID TO ME IT MUST BE A PUNCTARE, THE MANAGER IS RUDE AND SPEAKS TO ME LIKE HE IS SPEAKING TO HIS OWN SON. HE SHOULD TAKE A CLASS IN CUSTOMER ETIQUETTE. A PUNCTARE WOULD MEAN THEY WOULD LOSE MORE THAN 4 PSI AND WOULD NOT AFFECT BOTH TIRES. THE TIRES WERE FITTED BY A CHILD, WHO LOOKS NO OLDER THAN 16.

THIS COMPANY IS ONE OF THE WORST I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. I SHALL NEVER AGAIN USE THEM, EVEN IF IT MEANS BUYING PRODUCTS MORE EXPENSIVE ONLINE.

AS I SAID IN MY TITLE, AVOID THIS COMPANY AND DONT SEND YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE. YOU GO IN FOR A SIMPLE TIRE CHANGE AND THEY RUIN YOUR CAR. I WOULD RATHER SET FIRE TO MY CAR THAN SEND IT TO THIS PLACE.

IF I COULD RATE THEM IN MINUS DIGITS I WOULD!!!!!!!

Shocking

My wife got a puncher on her bike on her way home from work, she popped into halfords Aberdeen as it was near by, £3.99 for a new inertube and they charged £8.99 too fit it!! Disgusting robbing slags!!!

Utter Garbage

Went in for a new battery £79.99 plus £9.99 fitted as advertised on website.
Bidston Moss branch, Wallasey wanted £99.98.

Fitter would not open bonnet "in case he stretched the release cable"

My wife opened it for him but he refused to fit the battery as it meant undoing one retaining clip that held a grill trim in place.

He suggested that we booked the car in to the service bay at an additional cost of £60.00 plus vat.

I bought the battery at an elsewhere for £35.00 plus vat and fitted myself in less than 10 minutes.

Possibly the worst experience ever

Sutton Halfords Auto Centre - 2 Wealdstone Rd, Sutton, Greater London SM3 9QN

Possibly the worst experience ever from these people, I dropped my car off 15:15 on Friday 28th March for a simple MOT. After 10 mins we received a call saying that the MOT tester couldn't carry out the emissions test as the car was smoking too much. On hearing this we went back and drove the car down to our local Kia Dealer to get it checked out and explained the problem, 2 mechanics checked that car over and carried out an Emissions test and said all was fine and there were no problems. Very angry I drove back to the centre and said I wasn't leaving until it had been tested. The guy was very unhelpful but got someone to test it. Surprise surprise it pass with flying colours. The final straw was finding out that my car had been put on the system as a petrol ! (its a diesel it says CDi on the back) I will never use a halfords again for anything.

Absolutely Terrible Service! Avoid!!

We booked an MOT using the website as it had an half price offer. We booked an appointment and were told to be at the autocentre 10 minutes before our appointment time, which was 10.00am. On reading the website beforehand, it asks to allow 40 minutes to 1 hour for the MOT to be done. However, when we arrived we were told another car had just gone in and the car wouldn't be ready until 12:00pm. When we questioned why we would have to wait as we had made an appointment, we were told that the internet time isn't linked to the actual autocentre. (???).
On returning to collect my car at 11:45am, after a long wait and no apology, we were told that the car had failed the MOT. It had failed on two trackrod ends and was quoted £172.00 for each one to be replaced. With everything added, the price of the repair would be in excess of £400!
Knowing I was able to fit these myself, I went to a motor factors, bought two trackrod ends for £22.00 and fitted them in under an hour. How can Halfords possibly justify a price of over £400!? I am astounded!
On returning the next day (reluctantly), for a re-test I was told the cost of a re-test would be the same price as what I'd paid for a full MOT. As I knew this should be half, I questioned why it wasn't half of £27.42 as that was the price I had agreed to, regardless of if it was already half price or not. They stated that it was simply half the price of a full priced MOT. It also states on the internet that they 'May, or may not' charge you for a re-test. Nonsense, they will always charge you by the sounds of it.
Needless to say, after the service I had received, I took my car elsewhere and it passed, no problems.
We have since spoken to mechanics and friends who reiterate what we have experienced. From speaking to a former mechanic of Halfords, he stated that the website and centre are linked so they would have known our car was to arrive at a set appointment time. A lie then! The mechanic also said that he does not know how these autocentres stay open, and that he left Halfords because of the terrible way they treated their customers and the unjustifiable prices they charge. The half price MOT is obviously a ploy to leer you in and rip you off. If I had not known the general price of my repair, I may have been naive enough to let them proceed. I have also since read that they work on commission....funny that.
The staff at Halfords, Llanelli treated my wife and I with utter contempt. They were rude, sarcastic and unprofessional. The way they spoke to us was shameful and they have no customer service skills whatsoever. They charge extortionate prices for work and I wonder how these auto centres haven't yet been under investigation for overcharging.
Atrocious services, appalling manner, liars and we would never return. Please, read all the bad reviews online (something which we didn't do initially), and avoid at all costs!

We were not happy with the service MOT with regards to the comments about the tyres. Two were replaced, however the comments that the other 2 were worn but would likely be OK for a while and good enough for MOT test., We were advised by a second opinion that the tyres need to be replaced..
We returned to Halfords Brighton the next day and spoke with the assistant manager Mark Spurgeon who after some discussion, was very cooperative and helpful. He agreed that they should be replaced. Halfords agreed to cover the cost and we collected the car later that day. Brilliant managers certainly raise the star rating of their companies. Hence 5 star Mark, 4 star Halfords!

Terrible

Radial tyre fitted the wrong way round at Romford branch. Manager Sunny Squire refused to provide a new tyre even though it was driven on for 2,000 miles in a direction otherwise intended by the manager and is potentially at risk of a blow out. The manager repeatedly asked "have you never made a mistake?", a fair question had he offered to correctly rectify his mistake. Please avoid at all costs, apparently staff are unable to read the 'outside' marking on a tyre.

brilliant service with a smile!

I popped into the Bangor store for a new windscreen wiper blade and saw a set of reasonably priced wheel hubs while I was there. both were fitted for me, at a small extra charge, with a smile :)) I am a female pensioner and find that most young people look through me. what a refreshing change - I can't praise your staff highly enough. thank you.
