Getting better on bikes

Ive used halfords over the years for a lot of different things. Car spares, cleaning products, bike parts etc. I've had two awful experiences at the Old Kent Road store where the staff have taken an eternity to even respond to customers so I definitely won't go there again but I've found the Sevenoaks and Bromley stores to be good. Halfords has started selling some decent bike makes online and its pretty handy to be able to order something, then pick it up when you can as opposed to missing a package in the post. They also offer a 10% discount on all purchases to british cycling members so if your buying something of value it pays for itself straight away.

Cash Cows!

Took my car for the inspection. Got the car to them with 100% working exhaust, after collection, the exaust was snapped and causes to sound like a tractor. Quote £100+. The exact definition of cash cows!! Trading Standards will be informed! Avoid if possible!!

CAN NOT FIT BABY CAR SEATS CORRECTLY

It took over one hour and 3 staff to fit my seat
My car seat was fitted incorrectly
It was very wobbly
I drove home with my baby in it not knowing it was unsafe
After watching a maxi-cosi demo on utube I manged to fit it myself safely
Disgusted with them I paid more for the seat as I though they had the best fitting service
I WAS WRONG !!

Outstanding service

I popped into Halfords, Salisbury, yesterday evening at about 5.30, as I had somehow lost my front number plate. The young woman who served me, Claire C, was incredibly friendly, efficient and polite and, although I had been in a foul mood, I was soon lifted from it because of her incredibly positive attitude and professional service. A young man named Steve then attached the number plate to my car. Despite the fact that it was freezing cold, dark, late and my car stubbornly refused to have the plate attached (Steve tried three different methods before one finally worked) he was utterly charming and personable, and couldn't have been more polite. I rarely come across such helpful staff and I wanted to say 'Thank you' to both Claire and Steve, as they made my day.

Absolutely disinterested in their poor product

Bought a bike for my daughter's birthday. The gear change mechanism was so stiff that she couldn;t change gear at all. I tried it and neither could I.
I took it back and they kept it a couple of days. When I went back, the man dealing with it tried to tell me everything was OK. I tried the gear change and it still was too stiff to move. When I told him, he said 'yes, I know, they often get like that and there's nothing we can do'.....

I took it to a local independent bike specialist to fix. His words amused me...'did you get this from Halfords did you? They put a lot of work our way!'

Worst Company I have ever had any dealings with.

Halfords Rapid Digital Tyre Inflator. £34.99.Bought this and found that after inflating my tyre on three occasions fairly successfully it suddenly made a strange noise and the compressor stopped working.Took the faulty item back to the Halfords shop in Airdrie where I had purchased it and was informed that as I did not have the correct receipt that there was nothing that could be done.I explained that all of my paperwork had been destroyed in a recent flood Staff couldn't have cared less. I would say rude and obnoxious would be putting the attitude that I experienced mildly. I will certainly never set foot in a Halfords establishment again. I have also made sure my wide circle of friends and family are fully aware of the treatment to be expected if they choose to shop there. I doubt any of them will.

I Hate Halfords

At least I hate going in their shops as I always forget to take a packed lunch.

However, yesterday (Sunday) I ordered 2 Graco booster seats on line with free standard delivery by Friday. Order no. 29807211. Today, less than 24 hours from ordering, they arrived.

From previous experience, I believe that this was actually quicker than if I had gone into a branch & bought them, so WELL DONE & thankyou. I might never set foot in one of your shops again, but will certainly buy on line.

DONT TRUST THEM!!!

I was looking to get my car mot as it was due to expire and I googled local centres and chose Halfords Bracknell. my car had failed on two things

1) my broken wing mirror and
2) my emissions where too high

They offered to fix the wing mirror for £20 inc labour and pour some exhaust solution for £20. I paid the £40 then only to be told that the emissions were still too high. They said the next cheapest thing they would do would cost me £100 and it still couldn't guarantee the "problem" would be fixed. After that would be the catalytic converter costing £300.

So I took it to another garage and they saw nothing wrong with the exhaust and passed the car with no queries!

Halfords told me they don't have advanced enough diagnostic tools to identify exhaust problems straight away. If they don't, THEY SHOULDNT BEST TESTING VEHICLES AND FINDING FAULTS WHERE THERE ARE NONE AT THE EXPENSE OF CUSTOMERS.

Very poor customer service

Having received a car stereo (from Halfords) for Christmas I went to the shop (Newport, Isle of Wight) to have it fitted. I was told that it would cost £49.99 + parts, rather than the £29.99 that my partner was previously told. I was also told that it would take a minimum of 2 hours and I would have to wait over a week for an available slot. Meanwhile numerous staff were milling about doing next to nothing.

I fitted it myself in their car park, buying a £5 aerial converter along the way, in about an hour. For experienced staff it would have taken a maximum of half an hour to do.

Whilst waiting I also saw an elderly lady asking for confirmation that she'd selected a correct item for her car, only to be told to check it in the book herself.

A physical store has one possible advantage over an online one - customer service. Halfords are not utilising this advantage and I for one will shop online rather than return there in future.

Southampton Winchester Rd Branch - Rudest staff in UK ?

30th December 2013. 11:00 Waited at empty till and was totally ignored by 2 staff.

Eventually 2 girls turned up to serve. Ignored me and other customers whilst they enjoyed an animated conversation with each other.

While I was being served, another member of staff mentioned the fact to them that whilst they were pretending to restock they were ignoring customers waiting to pay just a few feet away. They dismissed this fact out of hand.

Utterly charmless. I shall avoid the shop. I suspect the other customers waiting will also do so.

Haven't always enjoyed the service at my local store but more recently have been there and also my mums local halfords. Staff in both stores approached me, were very helpful! Maybe new management, I don't know but feel so much happier to return to their stores :)

rude and unhelpful staff. they never change

visited my local store today. very few staff which is understandable as between xmas and new year. found a female staff member who had a pricing gun in her hand. I wanted to enquire regarding some oil i was buying. without even looking at me i was advised that she was busy and i should go find someone else. all delivered with a rather irrited tone. needless to say i left and purchased the oil elsewhere. not the first time i've experienced this sort of thing. (went to buy a bike. shop opened til 8 but i got staff who was finishing at 6. he went to the stockroom to get the bike and simply went home and left me standing in the shop. eventually i had to get someone else who was on til 8!). terrible company. today was last time i'll ever be in there

If only I knew some basic car maintenance...........

But I don't!
So off to Halfords to get my headlamp replaced and fitted.
Thought I was clever for knowing it was the nearside lamp but then he started asking if it was dipped or full and I thought it was easier to show him.
He then quoted prices for economy, not-so-economy, twin-pack etc.
I paid.
He fitted.
I went home!
Yes, it took him less than 5 minutes. But it was a freezing cold, wet, windy day and I'm clueless, so £7 to fit the bulb was a bargain.

Rip Off Headlamp fitting

Halfords charge £7 per bulb to fit. It is a fixed fee which takes no account of the time it takes to do the job. So the bulb takes approx 1 min to fit which equals an hourly rate of £400. Complaints are dealt with by simply saying "its not my fault its company policy"

Hello Kitty bike disaster

Reserved the 16 inch bike online. The choice of collection store was limited and the nearest availability was 40 min drive from my home. Received a call from the store and arranged a collection from the store the following Thursday after the midday. The order also included the stabilisers. When arrived to collect the bike I was told that the computers are not working and they have no track of my request/ reserve. When I said that I am not prepared to travel again this distance I was told that it will take 30 min to build the bike and I can collected. 2 hours later I was still waiting. No way to sit and wait, staff trying to attend to other customers thus delaying service we were waiting for. Nightmare. Never again I will use Halfords. Furthermore I will discourage all my family and friends from using Halfords. The most shambolic service I have ever received from a retailer for a pre-ordered item.

Never everrrrrr buy from Hlafords

The worst online seller I have ever met. I ordered 4 baby car seats from their website. 2 for us and 2 for friends as by the time time we bought it has bundle deal (buy 2 get 10% off). Guess what, after 7 days on the date they promise to delivery my goods, I just got an emails said that sorry you haven been F**** off, we are not selling you what you have bought because: on their website noticed the price has gone up and the promotion has been taken off. It just completely upset me as by the them we were buying we could also get similar price from other suppliers. I just want to kick my ass that why choose this dodgggggggy company.

SO, HALFORDS, next time if you cannot afford using online sales promotion, just dong't put it on your website to upset others.

No Fuss. No Quibble. Guarenteed Good Service!

On my visit to my local Halfords Store with my 'Faulty Car Battery' I was met with a lovely smile and 'How can I help you? Placing my faulty car battery on the counter with the paper work, when I purchased the said battery. I explained that the battery had failed the winter car check! The battery was checked with their instrument and found to be faulty! No 'Quibble'. No 'Fuss'; the car battery was exchanged immediately, with an explanation on why the battery may have failed within the warranty period. Well done and thank you to the TAMWORTH Branch of Halfords for their Customer Care and Guidance.

Fail to Profit

Took my car to our local Halford auto centre as were offering a good deal of £27. Should of known that would be my downfall.

What a surprise failed,
Front Brakes
Front Disc corroded & weak
Rear hand below Efficiency
Front Head light Blown
Tail Light Out

Advisory
Rear tires close to legal limit
and Brake pipes corroded

Quote to repair the brakes and Discs £160.22
Quote for Head lights £14
Handbrake cable £137.00
Total Repair - £311.22

The front pads I`ll give them, were worn and the bulbs were blown. Actual cost
2x Bulbs £2
2x Disc £29
2x pads £21
Admitedly I repaired them myself so an aspect of labor in there, The hand brake had no fault at all.On inspection the discs were slightly corroded, as any disc would be after a few years on the car. Changed everything and got a retest booked.

The examiner began his retest, to which I began a lengthy call to my bank. After a while the examiner parked the car up in front of me, and I asked if everything was OK and did it pass. To which he replied `Yes all fine` I replied "has it passed now," to which he said `Yes give me 5 mins to do the paperwork.`
I finished my call, and went in expecting to pay my money and leave, the manager told me it had failed on Hand Brake efficiency only being 13%.
Totally confused I asked why the examiner had just told me it had passed. The manager said I was mistaken, and he didn`t say that. Then presenting me with a quote said I either repair it there or it will be a full charge for a retest. So £137 for a new hand brake cable fitted......

I then made a call to an MOT centre around the corner to which they had an appointment within the hour. Took the car there and didn`t mention anything about the Halfords Ordeal, removed all paperwork and sat watching the MOT.

Flew through with no advisory or failures, asked about the hand brake efficiency and he showed me the screen that said it was 26% which he said was typical and not really anything to worry about for the age of the car. I showed him the Halfords paperwork and he was gob smacked. The rear tyres were 4mm to which the legal limit is 1.6mm. Then he asked why he failed the front Discs & not the rears as they would of been in the same condition.
Clearly they are offering cheap MOT`s to then trap customer into ridiculous prices..... I`ve learnt my lesson dearly and won`t go anywhere near a halfords of any sorts again.......

Love Your Wallet & Time Precious? Then stay well clear of them

Halfords Autocentre - Naively enticed by their half priced MOT offer and took my car to them for it's MOT.

Failed needing two new tyres and the headlight lenses were yellowed and cloudy (apparently). They asked if they could quote for the work which I declined and took it to a local garage for the tyres (budgets at £36 each). The mechanic was surprised it failed on the lenses which he thought were OK but advised a cleaning & polishing product that would get them up to spec which I ordered online.

I spent an hour cleaning and polishing the headlight lenses which now looked as good as new so booked a retest with Halfords.

Arrived at the allotted time only to be told they had double booked me so had to go back later when they could fit me in. Failed again on the headlights and also on a different tyre which they must of missed on the first MOT !! Unreal!!

Getting worn down with the hassle of it all I accepted a quote for the tyre - £51 (£16 more expensive than the others I had bought at an independent) and agreed to have the lenses also fitted by them. I left the car with them and spent £8 on a taxi home after being told they would have it all done by 4 pm including a full MOT (which I would have to pay for again)

I got home and received a call that the lenses weren't available until after my allotted MOT time so they couldn't do the MOT after all. I asked for the prices of the lenses they had sourced which were £91 each ( brand new £20 each on Ebay) plus £50 labour each so £282 plus the tyre and MOT test fee.

I told them to not do anything and got a lift to pick the car up and smelling a rat managed to book my car in at a garage that specialises in MOT's ONLY. Paid £48 for the test fee and surprise surprise it passed. They told me they hear of similar stories all the time about Halfords.

If you want to be milked of your cash Halfords is for you. If, however, you value your time, money and sanity then look elsewhere. I'll never, ever go to Halfords for anything again.
