Holidayautos good BUT they should stop using GOLDCAR in Spain

I use Holidayautos a lot, maybe 5-10 times a year and I generally find them pretty good. I'm currently in Spain, however, and had the worst car rental experience of my life with GOLDCAR when I arrived at Palma airport today. There was a queue of more than an hour and then when I got to the desk I had the fuel policy explained to me - there was no option to bring it back full and I had to pay upwards of 120 euros for a tank. The whole experience was terrible with no chance to cancel with Holidayautos. The irritating thing is that the other companies were not busy and, if pre-booking via rentalcars.com where you can see the brand were probably only 10 or 20 more. Anyway, Hoidayautos you have lost a loyal customer unless you get rid of Goldcars and start using non rip off companies in Spain.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!

First Class service from start to finish. Called hire company once through security. He was with us within 10 minutes. Loaded our cases into the car and drove us to the rental place (Orlando). It took only 5 minutes to complete the paper-work and we were on our way. Would definitely recommend Orlando - they are just fab and we always try to use them.

Company didn't have class of car we booked.

We booked a Ford Focus estate (or similar) as we needed a lot of boot space for four travellers and a pram. Guerin had run out of cars in that class and wouldn't let us have a suitable alternative (such as a Seat estate) as they said this was a higher class. In the end we were given a Nissan Quashkai which meant we had to have one suitcase and also the rear boot cover on the back seat on top of the rear passengers. Not very good at all.

Good value. Return 'clean' car??

Good general value and service. Not sure about the return clean policy. Who defines clean?!! And if you cleaned it prior to leaving your destination, no guarantee of it still being clean when you drop it off??! As it was, we found a car wash when we filled up with fuel just outside airport - could have been an issue otherwise...£35 euro charge would have been harsh...
Vehicle had aoly covered 50,000 km, but front wheel bearing was very noisy - would have been an issue for journeys of more than 2 hours?!

New vehicles, excellent service over the years.

After using your company over seven years, the vehicles have always been practical and efficient. Rental paperwork is very simple for collection/return with no hassle and staff competent and friendly. A pleasure to do business with you every trip. Thank you.

Overall a good experience.

I have hired via Holiday Autos for many years now. My most recent experience of renting at Pisa Airport went smoothly and have no complaints. I had a very bad experience last October with Gold Car but after a lot of time and effort Holiday Autos did refund the extra insurance costs we had been forced to pay. Now when I go on line I then phone Holiday Autos to ensure that I am not using Gold Car. The only reason I have not given 5 star review is that it surprises me that Holiday Autos still offer customers cars through such a dishonest, disreputable company as Gold Car. This time it was Firefly and everything was fine.

Do not use HolidayAutos in Lanzarote

We booked a car rental through HolidayAutos when recently on holiday in Lanzarate. On arrival at the airport, there was no sign of where their agent - Orlando - was to be found. Unlike all the other car hire companies (e.g. avis) who all had stands in airport arrival, HA's agent, Orlando, was in a car park with no sign outside. Once there, i joined a queue of quite irate customers who had been waiting 40mins + as no agent was on hand. Then our car was given to us with an empty tank of diesel, despite our contract saying 'pick up full, return full' - we returned with 1/4 tank so effectively lost this money. And now, more than 2 weeks later, I am still waiting the return of my deposit.

All in all, a thoroughly appalling service from a terrible company and i would recommend using anyone but Orlando, via HolidayAutos, when in Lanzarote

Car hire without the surprises (usually unpleasant ones.............)

I've used Holiday Autos for years in several countries. I like the fact that if you take out their CDW insurance (usually well below the cost you're "blackmailed" into at the desk), and return the car with a full tank (can't believe people fall for the buying a full tank scam), you pay the advertised amount. I've once had to claim on their insurance when the car was scratched in a hotel car park in Nijmegan and the process was very efficient with the payment taken by the hire company returned in full. The cars always come from the big providers, usually Alamo/Eurocar and the service is on a par with hiring direct without the usual scare tactics at the desk.

Easy transaction and got what I paid for, cheaper than direct booking

No problems at all at the rental counter, in fact when pricing rental again with same renting company I realized it's actually cheaper to go through holiday autos as you get better car for the price of the budget version on the rental company website. Wouldn't bother with the excess insurance thou... You can get it for exactly same price at the counter and less paperwork involved if anything happens( getting excess insurance with Allianz means you'll have to pay anyway and then process the refund, doing it directly means you can let the rental company deal with all the paperwork, just read the small print- you're only covered up to 3000 euros ...) HolidayAutos Car Category Different to Alamo's

I booked a Standard/Intermediate car through HolidayAutos with Alamo at Orlando International (MCO) . When I presented the Voucher to Alamo they said it was in error; only a Compact car had been booked, even though the Voucher clearly showed a Standard/Intermediate. I had to pay more than $450 to get a Standard/Intermediate, although Alamo gave me a Full Size for the Standard/Intermediate price "because of the error". I have submitted this case to Holiday Autos, asking for an appropriate refund. I await their response and will report on it in due course.

when I booked car hire from website description if said "on airport" which is what we always go for but when I had booked and paid ! it advised that it was not and that a representative from Orlando Rental would meet us in arrivals hall, so was a little annoyed. I did ring holiday autos and they said that I could cancel without penalty but I decided to leave it. When we arrived at Tenerife there was no one there but the rep did arrive after about 10 mins. He apologised for delay (as he was the only employee working at the time) and took us to office which was under 10 mins away, the rest of the procedure was excellent and ww would use Orlando Rental again but we feel that holiday autos need to make there website clearer

Cheap car hire and easy to use website.

Generally had a good experience with Holiday Autos. The website was very simple to use and we took out the additional vehicle excess deposit insurance. Arrived in Murcia airport to find no representative from Solmar car rental waiting for us, which was contrary to the instructions we received so they had to be phoned. We got the car we had requested but they charge you if you put the car back with a full tank of fuel or if you put it back empty (rate changes depending on what you decide to put it back) which I don't think is fair but I believe this is common practise with car rental companies in spain. I would have no hesitation using Holiday Autos for car hire again, however I think it should be made very clear when booking the car what the costs will be for returning the car with a full tank of fuel or empty so an informed decision can be made and you know exactly what your car hire costs are going to be.

Inexpensive, convenient, and friendly service.

Great deal on a last minute booking to travel around Scotland. The representative was very helpful in giving me detailed directions to the location from the airport. The car was in great condition and I asked for a GPS for the drive. The GPS unfortunately was the only negative part of the experience - the software and mapping system were definitely a bit out of date. It could get me to the cities I was driving to, but it couldn't find a single one of the tourist destinations (i.e., the distilleries on the Whisky Trail). I discussed this with the representative when I dropped off the car and he was so friendly and took off the fee. I would still rent again from Holidayautos!

Good value, easy to arrange, although slightly let down by the hire company

We've used Holiday Autos several times in the last few years and they've always presented good value for money and found us a good deal on our chosen car. We go skiing at this time of year and it is important to us to get a good sized estate car with plenty of space for equipment and a ski rack. We've always been able to get the right size of car - this year we were surprised to learn that having pre-arranged the ski rack on the website, Europcar were not able to fulfil this part of the order. Eventually the agent found an old one at the back of the office but it had surprised him they even had any and he could only charge us for 'snow chains' on their system.

That being said, the service is easy, the website very clear and quick to use and their choice of rental companies has always been excellent.

Consistent good service

I've used Holiday Autos on numerous occasions over the years for the USA, Spain and Portugal - and this time for Cyprus. Yet again I got a good value deal and good service from the local provider (Thrifty) including a free upgrade to a larger vehicle. I find the Holiday Autos website and call centre straightforward to use and the follow up service in terms of e-mail confirmations and information prompt and comprehensive. I will continue to make them a first port of call for overseas car hire.

Full to Zero.... Zero points to Holiday Autos

I will consider booking with Holiday Autos again... BUT... I DO NOT agree that they have a policy of one having to pay over the odds for a full tank of fuel, and you have to bring it back empty. You cannot do this as you may not need a full tank for your trip and it is dangerous to try and drive back to an airport on an empty tank, very risky.

It is no more than a blatant rip off and taking the consumer as a mug. Low rental rates but very HIGH hidden charges in fuel do not make them as competitive as I thought.

I also found out that this wasn't the actual policy of the rental company that supplied the car but just that of the individual policy/agreement that Holiday Autos use.

Very sharp cynical practice in my opinion, designed to rip off.

I called the actual car hire company supplying my car, and they amended my booking to be full to full.

Come on Holiday Autos, you let yourself down with a cynical money grabbing practice.

Very disappointing.

Be very careful with Guerin Car Hire!

We stay most years during April at Quinta do Lago on the Algarve. We have rented cars several times through Holiday Autos with Guerin Car Hire, Faro Airport. Last year (2013) the first car they offered was not what I had ordered and was badly damaged. They then offered another car that had just been washed and was still wet. An inspection of the car was carried out with myself present. There was quite a lot of damage for a relatively new car. As the car dried further more damage became apparent so the Guerin staff were summoned and the inspection sheet was updated. All of this took a considerable time. On returning the car, which had had very little use, they found what they claimed to be fresh damage including damage to one of the tyres. I'm certain that I was not responsible. I argued with them for some time and thought had convinced them I was not responsible. On return my Visa card was hit with several hundred pounds. Luckily I had insurance cover so was able to claim the money back but not the Visa transaction charges. This year I spent a considerable time inspecting the car with one of the Guerin staff. I also took many photographs of the panels, wheels and tyres and a walk around video. There was considerable superficial damage and the rear bumper had a large dent. On returning the car it was claimed there was fresh damage and again I argued not. I was about to show the photographs when they realised that I had full cover so returned the security deposit. I am convinced that Guerin are on the make here and shall not use them again. If you do use them be very careful. I recommend you select a car with zero excess and pay the 17.5 Euro local charge to fully cover the glass and tyres.
